i’m so glad i'm starting to see the push back against the memeification of the word “gaslight”, cuz y’all have really been pissing me off with that shit
#i can't believe it's gone on this long. like it's fucked up to use that word so flippantly#it's not a synonym for ''lying'' it's an abuse tactic wherein somebody tries to convince somebody else they're delusional#or to doubt their very reality#and like. theres more to it obvs but thats the basic gist#actually the shit that goes on in the new invisible man movie is a really good example of gaslighting#the villian uses a suit to make himself invisible to convince this lady (and her friends) and that she's insane and lost her grip on reality#thats some. high tech gaslighting right there#anyways. those people who edit the gaslight. girlboss. gatekeep. meme onto gifsets or photosets piss me off the most#because that took effort. and like. how did you not realise during this#and that ur demeaning and cheapening a term thats useful in psychological and sociological discussions#and for what? a supposed laugh? notes? fuck you#reads the same to me as those edits of people going TRIGGERED. it may not have occured to you it's the same kinda thing but it is#''weh its just a joke'' when you degrade terms like gaslighting or trigger or parasocial or maladaptive ur causing problems for other people#people to which those terms are useful#like. stop being so selfish#the supposed humour at play here (heavens knows whats so funny about this but anyways) isn't worth. like. the ableist consequences
