Another thought- the most heartbreaking part about this for the Doctor is that he's not a stranger to being talked down to by the people he's trying to save, but it is still his life's mission to save people. They don't need to like him, they just need to tolerate him long enough for him to do his magic.

There's the human aspect to this of us as the viewer reacting to the gross racism on display and feeling awful for the Doctor, as a person.

And then there's the second layer of a face-changing Time Lord who has dedicated his life to saving others only to be told by these people that they would rather die than even exist in the same space as him based solely on what must be, to a Time Lord, an entirely superficial reason.

He, as a Time Lord, is likely not fazed at all by the explicit racism after 2,000 years of time and space, but he is infuriated by the helplessness of the situation. He doesn't need people to like him, but he does need people to need him. Helping people keeps him moving forward. And people turning him away 'simply because of how he looks' ('simply' again being from his perspective as a time lord) just tears at something deep inside of him.

No for real the Should've Adapted Yakuza 2 take is the only one that doesn't make even a little sense to me. I will say it. I feel like a lot of people still think it's a movie (even though I literally wrote it was a TV series...) and so they're mad they're "redoing the first movie instead of making a sequel" when that's not even what's happening.

Plus the show has no relation to the (at this point almost twenty-year-old) movie; completely different companies, completely different people working on it, completely different approach (RGGS actually having a say vs. Miike and co more or less just doing whatever).

Technically, it's even a different game--like, on top of it being Yakuza Kiwami rather than Yakuza, the series itself has changed drastically from what it was when the movie came out. I think the reason a number of people are disappointed by the movie is exactly that. Like IMO the movie is more or less (at least tonally) representative of what the appeal of the series was at the time, which is all it was trying to do. But most fans today haven't even played PS2 Y1 and Y2, let alone only played PS2 Y1 and Y2, so it can leave something to be desired.

With casting, my dream of a Tomoya Nagase Kiryu 'cause he's partly based on him was shattered so I'm biased lol, but I appreciate that Takeuchi's been bulking up for the role and changing his public image, and I'm excited to check out some of his previous work. I love Kaku already from Super Salaryman and other roles (DW AT ALL BTW GUESS WHO STILL HASN'T WATCHED EP 2 OF FIRST PENGUIN KLJSJKLFG) but I have yet to see him in a serious role so that'll be fun :)

But like. While I tried to pick images that were close to our images of Kiryu and Nishiki, these are promotional shots, not styled and costumed in-character. I think people are also kind of glossing over the timeskip. Like yeah, Takeuchi's only 30, but pre-timeskip Kiryu is 27 and he has to believably play him too. That's especially notable when the story of Y1 could easily be told in like 5 or 6 hours, so perhaps what we're doing for the other 2-3 hours is spending more time pre-timeskip. I'm kind of speculating even some 0 scenes may make it in, because they were described as being dressed in "flashy suits and patterned shirts" at the shoot.

Overall, I do personally regret starting the series with K1 and it's my least favorite starting point (out of 0, Y1/K1, 7, and Judgment), but at the same time it's the only story that can be properly told within one eight-hour season. So. Y'know. It makes the most sense. I'm of course hoping it turns out enjoyable regardless because I'm obligated to watch it either way for the wiki lmao (and hey, maybe if it does well enough to get renewed, my faves will get a turn). I do think it's got the most potential of any of the adaptations so far, at least, aside from the other upcoming Judgment one.

no like thats what i mean: it makes total sense as to why they'd start from Y1 it just makes the most sense for a brand new adaption independent of the past iterations 😩 in any case im interested to see what everyone brings to the table and how they handle adapting Y1 now with all of the games and content that have come out since the initial movie/stageplay releases ♪(´▽｀)

YEAAAAH! oh man i have SO many thoughts. so here's my favorite straw hats from most liked -> neutral (i love literally all the straw hats i do not dislike a single guy)

luffy, being the GOAT he is, just has to stay on top. it's crazy because i am not usually a "protagonist is my favorite" kind of guy, in fact usually the protag is my least favorite of the main trio. however. luffy. yeah he's just the best, i love him so dearly.

i am, unfortunately, a sanji stan. i've been through the TRENCHES however i have come out the other end strong. god gives his greatest warriors his toughest characters to love. i have so many thoughts about sanji specifically it makes me deranged. 844 and 851 are two of my favorite chapters.

i'm also obsessed with jinbe an insane amount. i wish he joined the crew earlier just so i could see him more. i need to hang out with him all the time.

and zoro is just, so fucking awesome. again i have so many thoughts between his fight in baratie, nothing happened, and his stuff in wano that i'm nuts about but . Yeah . zoro <3

everyone else below top 4 switches around a lot, i think usopp is probably one of, if not, the most developed character in the straw hats. nami has slowly won me over after being my least favorite. robin has done similarly, esp recently with some of her stuff in egghead. chopper is adorable, i love brook, and franky needs more screentime. he's had time to shine in egghead but i would like more of him pretty please (specifically him and jinbe would be ideal but i will take anything)

outside of straw hats, my favorite other characters are: Law, Coby, Kawamatsu, Mihawk, Crocodile, Tama, Shanks, Shirahoshi, and Yamato.

as far as the island i'd live on, i do have the inklings of a one piece sona forming and he's a shipwright living on water seven! i'd like to mess around with the backstory and stuff more now that i've gotten a better sense of the world, but he uses armament haki instead of hammers or "traditional tools" because it's just easier for him.

thoughts on egghead! spoiler warning (though i'll talk vaguely--but still proceed with caution), but yeah egghead is actually insane. i'm so glad i caught up when i have because i feel like we're in the thick of it and i'm incredibly tense and excited to see where it all goes. the Big Thing (you know the one) was something i WAS mildly spoiled on, however that didn't stop the impact from really hitting. outside that, and a spoiler around marineford (iykyk) that i was aware of going in, i avoided pretty much most other big spoilers. i did know gear 5 existed (from fanart), but i didn't know what it was and was completely surprised by it.

i have watched some of the anime! i actually watched a decent chunk of enies lobby, skypiea, and some of the really early arcs and eps. i also watched The Big Episode in wano and like the last 5 episodes in egghead because the animation has been insanely cracked. i did watch pretty much everything on One Pace outside the post-timeskip stuff because i was trying to avoid filler, but i'll probably go back at some point and just binge the anime for fun. i'll defo end up re-reading chunks of the manga anyways so!

the live action is fun so far! i'm actually watching it with my family, because they're not really animation fans and this was the only way i could convince them to get into it. we've gotten through 2 eps, but i've seen up until episode 4 (watched with some friends). excited for season 2! i think some of the characterization choices they make to luffy and shanks feel a little Weird (shanks would NEVER tell luffy to "be good" and luffy wouldn't make moral distinctions between pirates) but i get they have to . make luffy a more "normal" protagonist, but i think that takes away some of his charm. the way they've managed to squeeze the pacing down is pretty impressive and while i wished we'd get more of the impactful moments, i get why things had to be cut. overall solid and i'm excited to continue watching it!

5. 02x40

i haven't rewatched s1 in a while so i'm opting for a s2 episode here, but unlike the other four it didn't come to my mind right away!

i really really like 02x40, it has como quieres, i love how fun the episode is as a whole, leon and lara have some cute moments and i LOVE seeing vilu and lara supporting each other to help leon go to the show, and like? the whole part about violetta buying time for him? her tantrums about not having her shoes? when she pretended to FAINT? i love it so so much, it gives me the same vibes as si es por amor!vilu, aka very different from we're used too but just as enjoyable. also that part when leon finally gets there and leonetta lock eyes and you can see their happiness....chief's kiss. and i really like the dieletta kiss too, if we exclude leonetta's makeout session in the movie it's the most aesthetically pleasing kiss in the show imo

4. 02x01

the colours, the happiness, the good vibes, HOY SOMOS MAS, everyone seeing each other again, the dramatics......i just love it so so much, this episode is by far the best opening episode in the series, and i have so many good memories related to it, like waiting for SO LONG to finally watch it, seeing the commercials on disney channel and almost falling from my chair when i realized i wouldn't have to ever see tomas again...i love it

3. 01x80

the best opening ep deserves to be in the top 5 but the best finale deserves to be in the top 3!! the s1 finale is UNMATCHED nothing slapped as hard as this one. francesca and violetta both ditching tomas and empowering themselves by putting their relationship first, the vilu/ludmila hug, SER MEJOR, and most of all.....The Scene, you know the one, it's so iconic i don't even have to say it. on god german hearing violetta's voice for the first time might be the most emotional scene in the entire show, like there's a reason we all have a love/hate relationship with german, and personally when i watch s1 and s2 most of the time i'm like "where the fuck is the love in this love/hate relationship" because i'm always 3s away from murdering him. and then you have this scene, or soy mi mejor momento in s2 and you see the happiness on his and vilu's faces and you're like damn......i do care

ANYWAY best finale by far it makes me want to cry and scream from happiness

2. 01x35

leonetta's early relationship. that's it they're just absolutely perfect. that te creo scene is one of my favorite ever, gregorio's class when he calls leon out because he can't stop staring at vilu and she's not better at all, the way they're all cute and wholesome with each other, fran, camila and maxi's reaction when vilu tells them she's dating leon, vilu happily telling german she has a bf, THEY'RE JUST. they overshadow everything in this episode it's THEIR time, i love them so much

1. 02x75

romance was invented that day idc. it might genuinely be the best episode in the entire show like it's THAT good, and not just for leonetta. it's the culmination of 75eps worth of wait and anticipation, it's diego's storyline reaching its peak right before the fall, THE climax of the season, and it's handled so beautifully. fran and leon's respect for vilu, the way she finds out about it, THAT MIROR SCENE WITH LEON like the care, the love in every word. and obviously, OBVIOUSLY. podemos. there's a reason that most people who don't even care about leonetta love this scene too, it's just...such a good moment, podemos is already THE violetta love song like nothing can top it, it's so powerful and beautiful, but this scene genuinely made the song a thousand times better. it's the way he goes on stage and for a moment he's the only person in the world to her, every single one of his gestures, every time he touches her, whether it's her face or her hands or her waist (you have NO IDEA what that spin where his hand lingers on her waist makes me feel it's so PURE) is so so so full of love it's just unbelievable. it's also the parallel of diego's "te haré mi princesa hoy con un beso" opposed to leon's "no soy un príncipe azul, tan solo soy" and while it's probably accidental symbolism it's THERE and it breaks me every time.

it's also the satisfaction of seeing diego fall while knowing he's gonna hurt you too once he'll reach the ground. amazing sensation, would 100% recommend. 02x75 is THE violetta episode because it resolves so many things in the best way possible and it's just.....genuinely so so good

Dexter: New Blood 1.01

When was anyone gonna tell me Dexter (already) returned?! Just found out there are already five eps out & immediately watched the first one of them. Cause how could I not?

So Dexter Morgan is back. And so are another few familiar names and faces. No big surprises so far (at least not to me), though one return comes with some questions. Besides the big one - how did he know? - I can't help but wonder: what's Hannah's part in all this and when will she make her entrance? Which is really something I shouldn't waste my time on (or worse: put my hopes on) cause I know Yvonne is way too busy with other projects and all, but I can't help it. I love her, big time, and if there's only the slightest chance that she shows up anyway to put Dexter's world upside down (sorry new girlfriend, but you don't stand a chance against Miss McKay) I'll take it.

Okay back to the new (Hannah-less) show. As it turns out Dex didn't end up as sad and lost as the original finale showed us (thank god for that!). He's built a new life, almost as fake (and boring) as his life with Rita, minus the killing. We've got snow instead of heat now (giving the show some Fargo vibes), and Deb instead of Harry. But all that is just the outside. He's trying and doing so pretty well, but everyone who knows Dexter knows it's only a matter of time. His dark passenger is still there, and in that moment when he finally snaps and we're supposed to shake our head and sigh "oh Dex" I smiled, probably like the most of us. Cause this is where we signed up for 8 seasons ago and this is what brings us all back today.

Will this new story be as great as my favorite seasons (1, 2 and 5), and do these new characters even come close to the many great ones from before? Only time will tell, but I'm sure here for it to find out!

Ok there is something so special with the first episode of season 2. We're back, we get to meet everyone again, everyone is so happy and gay. I think what makes this episode so special to me is maybe that I actually saw it at theatres. Sweden had some thing where they showed the first ep of season 2 complete with some behind the scenes interviews about the upcoming season. Like they really marketed Violetta. Anyway, first ep of s2, such a treat!

1x55 for the most part is just a normal episode, but the Open when they dedicate love songs to each other?? More importantly, YAM SINGING A SLOWED DOWN VERSION OF A RODAR MI VIDA TO JIM?? PERFECTION why did they cut it in half to let Lutteo talk in a park smh

4. Violetta: 1x35, Soy Luna: 3x40

1x35 is such a guilty pleasure for me. Leonetta post first kiss, Vilu's friends getting ecstatic over her first kiss, Germán getting a panic attack over it... it's so quirky and wholesome.

3x40, aka the flash open. I just enjoyed the retro style and performances, also Simbar kissing was a little "Oh- WOW OK YOU'RE MAKING OUT ON THE SPOT YEP-" and I love it.

3. Violetta: 3x64, Soy Luna: 3x56

Violetta and Leon pretending like they can only be friends and everyone laughing at them about it? Naty being super gay for Ludmila? Count me in!!

5. Angie, Luna

I want Angie to be my aunt :,) She suffered a lot and needed to get married to someone else.

Luna is actually a very fun main character. I think people give her too much hate. I think people give Violetta too much hate too, but in Vilu's case she suffered a lot in writing in s3, just like a lot of other characters. I get it, Luna is a little distracted, talks a lot, etc. But honestly, she's a fucking kid. Many people don't like that she "ships her friends with the wrong person" but like... as a FRIEND MYSELF- ok dfsjzsdkxsijd but honestly? Friends be like that. If you mention hanging out with some boy, they be like "OoOoOoOoO~" and Luna's friends do that to her, too. Everyone does that to everyone. And even if I don't ship the couples the friends do, I love how excited they are about each other. Luna cares about her friends a lot and wants them to be happy. If she notices she's going too far, she stops herself. She's quirky and charming, and yes, she does have main character syndrome but it be like that.

4. Leon, Simón

Leon is such a chaotic man. He's very impulsive, but he has such a charm. And he is very romantic. Literally this man has given me such high standards for romance and that's both good and bad-

Simón is also so chaotic, imagine moving to another country just to surprise your crush? Oh my god. And I love his friendships so much. And i've enjoyed every romantic relation he has had except for with Daniela.

3. Naty, Nina

Naty is a precious little cinnamon and I love her. Invented the word "lesbian panic" and she always makes me laugh. And she's strong. SO STRONG. Love you Natalia <3

Nina's such a sweetheart. Definitely relate to her with "better expressing herself online" because, same. I know for a fact she would have a tumblr account lmao.

2. Camila, Ámbar

Camila Torres, an icon. Is there anyone who doesn't love her? Like seriously - she's basically everyone's underrated queen. Short tempered? Yes. Impulsive? Yes. Being the most chaotic little hippie girl the world has met? YES. And I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!

Ámbar is. Stunning. Funny. Cool. Iconic. She's my daughter but she is somehow also my girlfriend (?? i'm sorry I don't know how to explain it). The CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. The DYNAMICS she has with SO MANY OTHER CHARACTERS. AAAAAAAAAAA-

1. Francesca, Yam

Francesca is who I want to be. Stylish, the best friend, the coolest... So, I never cared about Fran's love life very much, her last two boyfriends were cute and all, but what I really care about is her friendships. She CARES so MUCH about HER FRIENDS. SO MUCH THAT SHE WROTE TWO (2) SONGS ALL ABOUT HER FRIENDS. She's so funny, so clever, so cute, i'm- fdfhdjrjkdurdf. I wanna BE HER.

Yam is an underrated gem for me. I think it's just, I feel like I would probably be her in this universe? Like, not taking the most space, but still giving a lot of funny lines and doing fun stuff. I'm also a better singer than dancer. She's a funky little lesbian, absolutely iconic... and sure, she gives terrible love advice but honestly I do too. She cares about her friends a lot, she's also in the mix of it a bit of a quirky nerd, which I love... and she's always up with the shenanigans her friends and her girlfriend are coming up with. Love her.
