@bitterrosebrokenspear​ honestly i have mixed feelings on the whole matter.

to an extent, i think that female protagonists like gudako and hakunon actually benefit from existing in a role that was clearly written with a male character in mind. it gives them charming characterisation that almost certainly wouldn’t exist if they were written “as a girl” from the start (guda’s love of mecha, their slight but distinct weirdness in general and their irresistibility to women)

it’s just now and then you get moments like these where you’re unavoidably reminded that this experience just wasn’t quite meant for you.
