Q3: How did you get into Thunderbirds?

It all started when the original series of Thunderbirds was shown on BBC 2 in the early 90s. I was hooked from the start and wouldn’t miss an episode and even recorded episodes on VHS so I could watch them back.

My love continued and when they announced the live action film I was very excited. I went to see it at the cinema with my mum and brother and I remember walking away going, “yeah it was great,” but I was actually so disappointed with what they’d done. I just didn’t want to admit it because the show meant a lot to me. After watching it a 2nd time I admitted that I just did not like it. To me they get to much wrong, don’t focus on the other boys, and it’s just not Thunderbirds.

Moving on several years later the Thunderbirds Are Go 2015 reboot was announced and I remember being reluctant to watch it because of the 04 film. However, during a rewatch of my Thunderbirds series on DVD I had an idea for a story which I wanted to write - before beginning to write it I decided to read some other fanfics first and I stumbled on FanFiction.Net and was hooked. I then began writing & posting my 1st fic GONE (based on OS)

Anyways, it was because of reading those fanfics & after chatting to someone on FFNet (Still very good friends with but they’re not on here) convinced me TAG was worth the watch. And I did - and I am so glad! TAG alongside the original has gotten me through some very tough times, and because of it I’ve chatted to a heap of wonderful people, read some awesome fics, now have a few more friends, and 5 gorgeous plushie TAG boys - @tbirds

Q4: Any favourite Thunderbirds memories to share?

The original is so special to me because I got to watch it with my dad (he passed in 94) He loved it from when it was first on and we would watch it together - I remember sitting next to him, or on his lap. Also remember the 1st time I watched Terror in New York City. I was upset because Virgil had been hurt so he comforted me and got me some chocolate.

I have a few but going to just mention 2 here.

The first is more TOS related (can be linked with TAG) and involves Virgil and water - Mainly because Virg seems to avoid it. He’s asked by TinTin and Gordon to come in and he declines. There is also another episode (gone blank on the episode title) where he seems to avoid it. So my headcanon is that Virgil had an accident when he was younger where he nearly drowned and has had a fear of going in a pool/ocean since.

The second is for TAG and involves Virgil and his secret crush/love for Penelope. Inspired by the screenshot I’ve added below. However, he was always to shy to tell her and no one (apart from possibly Scott) knows about his feelings. When he discovered Gordon liked her and he noticed her attraction towards his little brother he decided that he would never do anything about how he felt. Because he loved his bro too much! I’ve written a mini fic on his feelings ages ago - posting below the pic…

He watched her standing by the pool. Her golden hair glowing in the midday sun while she chatted and laughed the day away. He had known her for years and each of them at some point had admitted to having a crush on her. However, his crush had never dwindled. How could it when she was so amazing… Tenacity, intelligence, an inner beauty… All had radiated out and eventually he had to admit to himself that he was in love with her… Yet, he would never tell her how he felt. He couldn’t, not when she had given her heart to his brother.
