Well that was sure a kick in the face 

I basically cry every time I read the Izumo mom chapters, I just cry and cry and cry

I hope they cover it in the currently-runnning anime, because I am not at all clear on how the mom-bf-kids relationship worked, I think that he was single but he didn’t marry her and so she was a mistress with both his kids but he didn’t acknowledge them?? 

I mean, he was sure a dick anyway, but I did not get the relative statuses at all or why it is that Tamamo only snapped after he’d refused to meet up with his kids for......how old was Izumo then, anyway......

I have actually only realised this in the past few days but the lady Illuminati commander is a Toudou, she’s got that white cowlick that he has and that his brothers did in the flashback

I wondered why we had the Shura digression all of a sudden, it felt a little like the Kraken story right after Kyoto arc, but then it was tied straight back into the main story with Shima, Shima, and the Illuminati, so kudos there

I’m a little ehhhh over Shura being depowered, but this is structural problematic, I can appreciate how taking on demonic power dehumanises those who seek it and how the rejection of such power has been shown to be the redemption of character after character, how love, faith and kindness ultimately triumphs over hate and fear, how what’s wished for, most ardently and quietly, is to live as though one day you are going to die

And all you need to do until that day is keep living, because it’s not here yet.

I did go back and read it all, and there are plenty of Shura hints here and there, esp. her hiding Hachirou’s existence from the True Cross people

This is obviously not going to come back at all

( Then I want Hachirou to incarnate into a young kid and Shura to adopt him and train him as heartlessly as he trained her, to love him for a while as only mortals do )

( I mean it’s not like the christmas cake sexy lady isn’t a shounen mainstay character and Shura’s real fear of dying at 30 interacted with being brought up to believe her purpose was to pop out a baby and then just die, there is definitely some synergy going on there )

( So choosing to make her own family rather than perpetuate a dysfunctional cycle, starting with the twins and ending by following Shiro’s example, ending with adopting a child Hachirou, I’d offer the over-under odds on that epilogue panel ) 

( But also, AoE definitely has a mothers thing going on. A big one ) 

( But also, to make him watch her grow old, to make him watch her grow up, to have him treasure every moment of it as much as she will, to value mortal decay and mortal glory ) 

I enjoy how Shima giving up the impression that he’s useless has basically revealed him to be SUPER SPY, SCALING WALLS, SMASHING WALLS, FIFTY COMPLICATED PLANS GOING ON AT ONCE, STALKING PEOPLE FOR NO DAMN REASON, MELTS INTO THE SHADOWS 

Shima revealing his ‘hand’ with Bon and Lightning is a little interesting, in that this may be the first ‘mistake��� he’s made since that point? I wonder if he did it to let Lightning underestimate him enough to reveal that he’s got those tracking slpyhs around

During reread I see that during that camp lantern retrieval thing, Shima blasts through the forest and whacks Rin with his staff, showing that he’s a) strong enough to attack Rin in the first place (FORESHADOWINNNNG) and also b) he did not at all get near Bon or Shiemi, only the demon who spouted blue flames that are the only thing his black flames are subourdinate to

So what I guess I’m saying is Shima definitely did it to make Lightning underestimate him

My interest in Shima went up like 50 times with the reveal, you have no idea

Also Bon’s kind of seriously in love with the twins right

I mean it’s also that he’s been forcefully connected to their human aspects and is naturally the kind of pure, overthinking it soul who watches them and is deeply attuned to the particular AoE baggage of being exactly what you’re born to be

But also, 10/10 gutpunch on that height tracking on the wall, I’m sure that the invasion of their personal, domestic space didn’t have any impact on the person who is in love with them

Sometimes I just sit here, thinking, why isn’t Rin screaming 900% of the time ‘YOU WERE GOING TO BE A DOCTOR, YOU HAVE WASTED ALL YOUR POTENTIAL, etc etc’ at Yukio

I also appreciate how Bon literally starts cleaning up after Lightning bc Bon can’t live with that amount of filth

Also he’s a clone, right, everyone got this, he’s a clone

Plus I guess Shiro was the one whom ‘Satan’ incarnated into as a clone? Only the ‘human’ part of himself either emerged or asserted itself for a long time, and ‘Satan’ manifesting was both the awakening of a new ‘being’ and the blue night?? 

I will live through s2 of the anime waiting for Juuzou to take Mamushi into his strong manly arms, his snake-faced childhood friend, sharp and spiteful and suspicious and suffering under poison all alone 

But if she doesn’t come back at some point co-ordinating troops or defending the ryokan or just being there, right there, to punch Toudou in the face, I will chew through a box irl
