A drabble is a form of fiction that’s exactly 100 words. If a story is 99 words or less, it’s not a drabble. If a story is 101 words or more, it’s not a drabble.

#*rattles cage* please please PLEASE stop labeling random flash fiction or ACTUAL FULL ON STORIES as drabbles#it’s one of those ones with an actual specific definition#if you want something to call fics ~1k or under#call them ‘flash fiction’#a small slice of a larger world/plot you don’t explore is a ‘vignette’#microfiction is a form of flash fiction#typically refers to 6 word/ 55 word/ or 280 character count stories iirc#like that doesn’t rly matter flash fiction and microfiction are umbrella terms#but ‘drabble’ is NOT#it’s a vvvv rigid definition#that’s why they’re fun practice#anyways every time I see someone label random flash fiction or FULL ON SHORT STORIES as drabbles I cry slightly#both because it means I can’t find true drabble stories#and because there’s this like…derision in fandom authors towards shorter stories#not towards other people but like. sometimes it feels like people are ashamed when their stories are ‘only’ a thousand words or so#no!!!! sometimes that’s just the length of the story!!! that’s fine and good!!!!!#short stories are good!!! that’s a whole adventure in just a few thousand words!!! that’s wonderful!!!!#this isn’t English class there’s no need to go all kuzco’s poison form on your story#or force it to expand beyond what you want to explore#anyways this is getting off topic#PLEASE USE DRABBLE CORRECTLY#it’s okay if u didn’t know before now u do#this has been a PSA
