Since I just posted a gifset of her, I'll talk a little about Aikarico, my beloved warcat, and her backstory <3

She came remarkably close to having a completely different life! Her parents were critical of the Legions as a whole and had plans to leave after the birth of their cub, as fleeing & traveling would be too strenuous on Electra (Aika's mother) during her pregnancy. Their goal was to reach Lion's Arch and settle down as a family.

However, mere weeks before Aikarico was born, her father, Theo, was killed on patrol by a Flame Legion ambush. Electra was heartbroken, and after Aikarico was born she didn't have the strength to flee the Legions alone - only to give Aikarico as much love as she could in the time they had. Being an only child, Aikarico was incredibly clingy and a very shy, sweet cub who rarely left her mother's side.

When it came time for her to join the Fahrah, she didn't cope well. Ripped from her mother's warm embrace into a world of survival of the fittest, she struggled - bullied endlessly by her peers for her softness. Until she wasn't. Until she forced herself to get tough, against her every instinct. She fought back with fang and claw, so no-one would ever hurt her again.

Her mother had promised she'd visit. She never did. Aikarico grew up believing she had been abandoned without reason by the only person who had loved her for her, not knowing the truth - Electra had died shortly after Aikarico left her side, falling ill and not having the strength to recover.

By the time she reached adulthood, Aikarico had become an arrogant, defiant problem for her warband and superiors, and had no intention of changing. It was a mask, but one she could no longer tell where it ended and she began any more. She had stopped trying to take it off long ago.

However, her higher-ups weren't about to let such subordination slide for much longer, especially after her stunts to prove herself as bigger, better, stronger, resulted in casualties in the field more than once. She always knew better, and nothing was ever her fault. It couldn't be - she was flawless, because if she wasn't, she was nothing.

After a string of complaints from her warbandmates, Aikarico was made a gladium. As the verdict was dealt, though, she stood tall and announced she was leaving, anyway, so there - you can't fire me, I quit! Denounced as a traitor and disappointment, she fled the Legions - just as her parents had meant to do all those years ago, albeit with a twist.

From there, she wandered Tyria, taking up jobs for bandits and thieves - anyone who would pay, at first - but eventually building up a reputation as a skilled assassin. She hung around human lands for a while - the least charr place she could think of, although she still held herself as charr in far-too-high regard. Among certain shady circles, she gained notoriety. If you wanted someone dead, she was the cat for the job. She was never happy, but she was feared and respected, and that was enough for a time.

Eventually she grew bored and set on the road again, winding up in the Desolation after a few years. Here, she worked with the Order of Shadows alongside her regular assassination jobs - she never became an official member, but she was known throughout the ranks as "that arrogant charr who thinks too much of herself".

During the events of Path of Fire, she was given a mark that would change her life once again; the Commander. She never did find out who put her on the job - it was all very secretive - but it payed well, and she knew to kill him would bolster her legend beyond all belief and hope. She took it without a second thought.

She followed Atlaki for days. Watched his every move, as he stopped amid the carnage to...help people? Didn't he have a god to catch? Why would he stop and show such...weakness?

She was horribly intrigued. And besides, maybe she was a little bored of the desert too, now. The Desolation was all moody skies and sulfur. Even killing here was getting dull.

So, finally, she engaged her target. But instead of shooting him from some perch, she appeared to his face and demanded he fight her. She was somewhat hurt when he appeared more tired than anything, but he agreed - and promptly kicked her ass. Okay, now she was impressed...although, of course, her losing was totally all part of her plan.

She introduced herself, told him she was meant to kill him but kind of didn't want to do that anymore, and she'd be helping him out from now on. A paw was offered to shake, and Atlaki - deciding this odd charr wasn't the worst or strangest thing to fall from the sky in recent times - took it.

Thus began Aikarico's looong, winding path to becoming a better, and certainly more tolerable person - someone her parents would be beyond proud to see flourish, with Atlaki's influence. She remains proud, arrogant, even but it's genuine now and not so much of a mask. She's charismatic, brash, and herself. She has the family she always needed, in Atlaki, and Cassien, and Aurene.

OKAY strap in here’s some kai moeru lore. I used to subtly role play as just some guy who’s at the gas station too often for their own good. they dont even have a car they just talk to whoever also passes by with their silly conspiracy boards, red string etc etc. then at some point I became the manager of the tumblr branch and that was that! I just think it’s really cute how it ended up being a household name for me. ive printed them out so many times, framed them and talk about them with that nickname at home that that’s how my siblings know them. it’s a very special name to me honestly. Time went by and I ended up calling them mim. hehe. not that I dont like Nami as a name it’s just that /gestures hands/ yeah

The whole Izumi Izanami thing is just that! Most of my devices’ autocorrects kept turning one word into the other I also ended up calling him zoomy instead and used one (1) “z” for Izy.

Let’s talk about OC’s.

Wait! Don’t leave! There’s a point to this!

OC’s often get a bum rap in a fanfiction scene and this is not entirely undeserved. Most OC’s are often the victims of amateur writers who think that making them perfect and a mirror image of themselves. Of course there is also the other direction where you make a character that is unintentionally sympathetic due to not understanding how unfortunate their implications are, such as them being abusive or too edgy. They also get in the way of the main characters more often then not, making it seem like they are the focus of the story instead of the actual characters.

Both of these are called the “Mary Sue” and the “Edgy OC”.

Now there are exceptions to the rule but they are rare and in between. Most of those that are tolerable are villains who serve as a villain of the week and don’t do much to puncture the equilibrium of the main plot such causing character death or creating serious trouble for the characters that changes their life completely. Those that are not strictly villains and are great anyway

There are of course many MANY writers who abhor the idea and instead prefer to give a spotlight to minor or filler characters and give them character development. This is often imperative in regards to characters who are interesting but due to say, a certain Shonen preference of focusing on fights versus characters and plot, allows a better connection to be formed... Which makes the fact that many filler arcs are poorly written more readily apparent.

I’ve decided to take all three options. With my OC’s, I try to make them feel like they belong in the story, avoid the trappings of MS/ES, and give them considerable nuance (I recommend Super EyePatch Wolf’s “What Makes A Villain Feel Real?” as well as his flawed but informative “What Make’s A Hero Feel Real?” if you wish to see it visualized.) And with stories like Inuyasha, Bleach, Detective Conan, etc that have boatloads of characters I feel it would be inevitable to add more whether I’d like it or not.

But what is the point I been avoiding so far? Well, in Bleach and Detective Conan, there are a large amount of background characters without names or any actual personality. I feel there is a danger of a fic becoming too unfamiliar if just filled with OC’s that haven’t been seen before. It be more interesting and challenging to add actual depth to these blank slates even if they are but minor footnotes.

As shown in the Gonzo screenshot I’ve supplied (Don’t remember which episode but guessing from the contents its either from before or during Jodie’s first appearance.) this the best picture I can find of our beloved Shin-Chan’s class! Let’s see what stories you can make as I’ve already made mine!

Daisuke Goda (Right, Between Shinichi and Genji)- Pudgy, Daisuke is a overall nice and helpful individual who often works hard in whatever he does regardless of whether he’s good at it. A member of the Judo Club, Karate Club, and Kendo Club, he is unambitious in regards to just about everything and is easygoing to the point of being Lackadaisical. His membership in said clubs is odd due to how little of a fighting spirit he has and mostly just joined because he’s a fan of Wuxia films. He greatly admires and has a minor crush on Ran Mouri, and often strives to get better because of it. He despises stretching, running, and doing jumping jacks.

Aika Tanaka (Bottom Left, Facing Away From Ran)- Very fat, Aika is nevertheless very bombastic, wired, and excitable having a very talkative personality that puts many people off due to how loud and opinionated she can be. She is insecure about her weight as despite dieting hard, her genetics don’t do her any favors and is jealous of all the attention Ran gets. Despite this, she is a good friend of Sonoko, even emanating her hairstyle because she thinks its pretty. She loves French cuisine, and watches/listens to Dorama’s, J-POP, and Romance Anime religiously though she hides the last part from Sonoko. She is in love with Daisuke, and acts incredibly shy when around him.

Akira Fujino (Top Most)- A Hafu, Akira’s appearance favors his western father and as a result is taller and more muscular then the rest of the class. Charming, suave, and confident to the point of near arrogance, he’s a lady killer and has dated most of the women in the school. He fashions himself as a Yankii and occasionally gets into fights due to either defending Aizawa, or due to someone foolishly picking on him due to his race. He is sexually attracted to Ran Mouri but doesn’t try to date her out of respect for Shinichi and the fact that he likes Ran personally. He dislikes Sonoko due to viewing her as stuck up and they both don’t get along. He also often gets into endless sports arguments with Shinichi due to debates over whether Baseball or Soccer is a better sport. Captain of the Basketball Team, he is very athletic and fit and enjoys eating a lot.

Genji Abe (Right Most)- Bespectacled, he is quite quiet, polite and reserved, often favoring traditionalism to the point of conservatism and is the class rep despite the fact he gives the air of being too serious and dull. In a paradox, he has a quick dry sense of humor and does smile often. Genji has OCD. habitually brushes his hair and is a serious overachiever. His best subjects are Math, and History while gym isn’t. He loves engaging in traditional hobbies such as Shodo and Waka preferring old things and is deeply religious in Shinto. He is vastly uncomfortable with women and social situations, the only exception being Ran, Shinichi, and Sonoko. The latter is touching considering his families rivalry with each other. He is also a germaphobe, and prefers to bring his own things such as chopsticks with him due to not trusting how clean things are.

I don’t really know what the point of this was anymore lol. I guess it was to give people some inspiration and advice... That I didn’t know how to end this. All three or neither could be true.
