i don't really remember what the canon relationship between gerry keay and adelard dekker was but if they had one i imagine gerry would've been dekker's apprentice. he would learn everything he knew about smirke and leitner and magnus from that man and he would look up to him so faithfully, intelligence matched flawlessly, ready to dive into that flighty pursuit of the elements skewed just a bit too roughly into the fabric of reality and extinguish those too-dark fingers of the powers sitting at the edge of the world
