I've never been crazy about most of John Singer Sargent's artwork but I just finished Such a good biography of him and now I'm in the mood to go to the MFA 😭
#like obviously his art is technically very good. but I just personally never loved most of the more famous pieces#anyway the book is The Grand Affair: John Singer Sargent in His World by Paul Fisher and I would absolutely recommend it#heavy focus on queerness as it fit into a particular time and place. fascinating
