"comics are too complicated, where are you supposed to start-"
Pick up a comic. Where do you start? With whatever comic your local library carries that looks cool. "but what about the story" if you care about a cohesive storyline 1) you're getting into the wrong medium and 2) look it up online? Ask your local librarians or comic shop workers?
My very first comic was from the middle of the Fear Itself storyline, I had no idea what was going on, and to this day I haven't read the rest of that run. The awesome thing about comics is that it does not matter what order you read anything in.
If you want to care, fantastic! I did! I wanted to read WinterWidow comics, because I thought the idea of Bucky Barnes/Natasha Romanov was compelling and I wanted to see it in canon (because the MCU was a mistake) so I went online to get a reading list and sought those out! And it's really cool to read The Death of Captain America, Brubaker's Winter Soldier run, and Waid's Black Widow run and see how it all fits together, but they're all really cool stories on their own without that!
I wanted to get into Green Arrow recently. I just went to the comic store and picked up what they had and now I've read like four runs most of the way through because I thought Oliver was neat (and also Mia and also Emiko and also Dinah and-)
Comics seem daunting but they're literally the easiest thing in the world to get into. Because it doesn't matter.
can you imagine talking about anything else the way comic-fanon fans talk about comics?
"the beatles are my favorite band! oh no i don't listen to their music i just look at the album covers and imagine what it sounds like lol."
"star trek fandom is so fun like there's so many series and episodes and reboots that you can just say anything and it probably happened in one of them anyways. and if it didn't, who cares! theres no point in trying to figure out what happened in canon anyway!"
"i love how 90% of doctor who fans all agree that you can do whatever companion with whatever doctor and its pretty much canon because the show is so wild. like, we all just have fun and then some guy shows up and tells you um, 'that actually is directly contradicted by the basic setup of the show?', and then they get offended when you tell them to go away!! LOL!"
"star wars is just too complicated for people to understand - like, are you supposed to start at movie 1 or movie 4? - so you really can't blame anyone for not even trying before they start posting in the star wars tag. anyway here's why i think finn is an angry black man and kylo ren is better for rey"
eta: have been informed this is the star wars experience already. im so fucking sorry yall have to bear this curse too
#anyway correct answer for star wars is 4 5 2 3 6 and maybe rogue one#i haven't seen star wars in years but that's how my dad showed them to me and i still think it's the best possible one#1 7 8 & 9 simply do not exist. sequels what sequels?#but um anyway#comics#comics are fantastic because reading order doesn't really matter#just as long as you read something#sure there are orders that are “better” than others based on what you're going for#but like. if you're looking to get into comics literally just pick up whatever's available#if there's a certain character or team you like#find a recommended reading list for them!#if you have no idea what to look for just find some pretty cover art and see what's inside!#comics aren't a highbrow pretentious medium#everything's fair game#anyway on a barely related note if anyone wants winterwidow reading recs i gotchu that's literally how i got into comics
