Name: Miriya
Race: Asura
Gender: Female
College: Dynamics
Class: Necromancer Scourge.
Allies: Â Kaleb, Corvus, Dhangalor, Slane, Sonnya.
Relationships: Â Middle sister of three. Elder sister is Sonnya, youngest is Tenna. Has an experimental relationship with Kaleb going. Distinctly dislikes Maeva, for many reasons. Strained relationship with Tenna as of recently.
Weapons: Auric Axe and Scourge Torch. Auric Axe and Elonian Carver. Has a Crystal Guardian greatsword on backup, though she doesn't like to use it much.
For a Necromancer, Miriya is pretty light spirited. She doesn't mope or act grim, she's always looking for something interesting to examine, and she gets along well with others. Normally. If you piss her off however, there's very little you can do to stop the enraged little ball of necrotic power she's become. As the Inquest learned a long time ago when they stole one of her inventions from her lab when she was still in the Dynamics College.
Long story short, she walked in with her minions, and didn't walk out until there wasn't an Inquest agent standing. In one of their own secure facilities. Surrounded by leagues of defenses. Turns out blood-boiling rage and the DeathShroud are a hell of a drug.
It's hard to tell where to start with her story. She nearly died during the final 'exam' (read as 'ritual') to become a full Necromancer. A controlled poisoning that was supposed to let her learn to convert poisons and toxins into something useful through magical synthesis nearly ended her. While all Necromancy students are expected to make fleeting contact with the Necrotic Cog (for humans, read as the Domain of the Lost), through the ritual and learn the skill from someone or something they meet on the other side, Miriya had a bad reaction and went almost too far into that domain. While her classmates recovered from their ordeals and then watched in a mix of curiousity and fear as she lay in a toxic coma, she ended up meeting someone in that domain who did teach her the skill she needed. In amusement, it sent her back, though by rights she was almost dead anyway and could have passed over. As a sign of her near-passing, the being marked her indelibly. Now, whenever her irritation starts to rise, red, batlike markings begin to emerge around her eyes, and her eyes themselves take on a distinctly non-Asuran glow and shape. She doesn't wear masks like her contemporaries, because she can never truly get rid of the one she was marked with. She recovered, and resumed her studies in the Dynamics college. That is, Â up until those Inquest stole a prototype golem arm weapon she'd been developing for mining and construction, and she discovered they were intending to upsize it to something that could destroy entire swathes of land. Suitably enraged, she called up her minions and assaulted their enclave single-handedly. It didn't go well at first. She managed to get inside, but there were far too many Inquest for her and her minions to handle safely. Their weapons kept slowing her, knocking her over (not hard for an Asura even smaller than normal for her age), and weakening her. Which is when her temper finally snapped. She called on the Death Shroud, a protective offensive/defensive barrier of necrotic energy that flowed over her like water and saved her. Using the unholy power of it, she wiped the Inquest base of life in minutes. Her first attack alone, a life-ripping inhalation, took down twenty armed guards.
That's when she learned a lesson her teachers never taught. The reason why Necromancers are only supposed to use the Shroud for a few seconds at a time. Extended use contaminates the user. The feeling of raw power is intoxicating and elating, and...addictive. It took her a long time to calm down enough to turn off the Shroud, at which point she realized just how much it took out of her, and where that unfettered, almost psychotic joy had come from. She's only ever used it in true emergencies, but each time it's harder for her to remember to turn it off. She's even nearly turned on allies, the effect blinding her to friend and foe after too long. It's such a dangerous skill. It wasn't long after that, that the Order of Whispers contacted her. They'd witnessed her...outburst...and were suitably impressed. In truth, a single Whispers agent had been in the Inquest facility spying, and had just barely gotten to a safe distance when Miriya's shroud ended everything. One shaky-handed report later, and they were inquiring if she wanted to join them. After a promise to be included on missions to disable or destroy or steal from the Inquest, she agreed. She didn't get a chance to take part in the Assault on Orr, but she did see its final phases from an airship deck. It was shortly thereafter that she was assigned to a Pact team of mixed races and organizations. In typical Asuran style, she was dismissive of her teammates at first; a silly, countryboy human warrior with a ridiculously big warhammer, a Charr engineer who obsessed over fire and explosions and his turrets, an unrealistically HUGE Norn Mesmer who loved to play jokes, and a recalcitrant sylvari thief who barely spoke to anyone. As is natural...hijinks followed. You don't combine a group like that without hijinks.
The lowest point was their temporary teaming up with a lone Elementalist while in search for a lost human artifact in Divnity's Reach. Kaleb was almost mortally wounded, and only because Corvus (the Norn) used his illusions to create a framework for her to use, was Miriya able to use her control over blood and life and death to regenerate his wounds. It was only later that they discovered that Maeva had infected Kaleb with something via the wound. Miriya would send a bottle of his blood off to Rata Sum to her former college krewe in secret, which would inadvertantly set a ball rolling that involved her youngest sister Tenna...
The highest point, at least for Miriya, was her tenative relationship with Kaleb. After having fought alongside each other for a while, she'd realized how much she'd grown to like the simple, silly human. With some misdirection she wasn't proud of, she'd eventually confessed to him, and was happy to find that he was at least open to the idea. It's still in the early stages, but they have grown much closer as a result. None of the other party members has an objection to them, and in fact they approve it. They still keep it quiet though, since people outside the group might not be so open to an Asura and a human. Her Pact team ended up fighting in the Scarlet War, but was unable to get into the Breachmaker, as they all got separated on the battlefield and spent most of their time fending off Twisted Watchwork monstrosities. The Mordremoth war had them seperated again, but only temporarily until they met up at Tarir, where they spent the rest of the war defending it from Mordrem assault. As a reward for her service, Miriya was gifted an Auric Axe and Scepter by the Exalted there.
Now, during Balthazar's assault on Elona, and Joko's current strikes back in Tyria, she and her team are in the midst of reassignment. In this time, she's finally caught back up with her two sisters, only to learn one of them has done something unspeakable... And it's all her fault.
---
(Notes from Me: Miriya is probably my favorite of the sisters, though Tenna is running a close second and is the second best to play. Miriya is also my main, as she has just ridiculous amounts of survivability whether as a normal necro, a Reaper, or a Scourge (which I currently have her as). Whenever a main story thing needs to be done, it's Miriya I turn to. She's the one I've advanced to the end as it stands. Also, I just find her adorkable. This positive little energetic Necromancer. LoL
I don't exactly know where the whole Miriya-Kaleb thing came from, other than I was running scenarios through my head for character interactions in combat and outside combat, and realized their skills kinda complimented each other. From there, I envisioned them fighting together as a team within the team, and it wasn't hard to picture the tsundere flip from dismissive self-congratulating asura to 'secretly in love' asura. I found it strangely cute. So... I ran with it. Seems to be working so far, but as with most things, I don't know how it'll end. Kaleb's kinda going through issues right now, which is putting stress on them. We'll see though.)
