okay let’s talk autistic robin and why we may not have seen as many signs of her being autistic in season three and how that does not negate how autistic she is in season four.
slight stranger things 4 spoilers ahead
okay so why does robin come off so much more neurodivergent in season four as opposed to season three? there are two big reasons, both having to do with masking and the afab autistic experience.
robin being afab means that she has been conditioned to mask her life. many afab autistics are able to mirror the behavior of those around us to appear ‘normal’ and we’re way less likely to get diagnosed, both because of this and the way our autism manifests differently from amabs.
for one, she spent a large portion of season three at work. as autistics, we are often told that we will not be able to get a job or function in the real world in any meaningful capacity unless we conform and hide our true selves. this is especially true when it comes to the job market. those of us who are able are forced to mask heavily in the workplace in order to maintain a job. so if robin wanted to succeed at work and keep the job, of course she would be hiding signs of neurodivergence.
and the second and even bigger reason is that she had not yet let her guard down and figured out that it was safe to unmask. i can’t speak for every autistic person but i start out a majority of social situations masking, which can be incredibly draining, until i’ve assessed whether it is a safe situation and i am around safe people to be my true self around. and even then i am cautious and holding back. robin started season 3 with the perspective that steve was total asshole and a bully. so obviously, she had our guard up around him. and so she was masking. by the time we see her again in season four, she and steve have been best friends for months and she has assessed that he is a safe person to unmask in front of. as for nancy and the other people she is visibly autistic in front of, there are three things i can think of. 1. she spent time with them before the season began. 2. she has assessed that they’re safe because of their proximity to steve. and 3. masking is exhausting. it’s not feasible to do 24/7. she could have just been tired of having to be somebody else and been willing to let her guard down around them because of that.
anyway tl;dr — don’t let anyone say that season three makes it impossible for robin to be autistic or that season four messed up her character by making her dumb (because we all know they’re not referring to her actual intelligence, they’re referring to her being visibly autistic). go wild in making robin the autistic lesbian of your dream.

Upside Down
Chapter 8 is right here for you my lovelies. I am particularly fond of this one. Also, this is slightly longer because I got carried away... Anyway, enjoy!
The Outcasts Masterlist
Walking through the woods was creepy as all hell. It didn’t help that the Demobats were still in the sky, screeching and generally just scaring the shit out of you. The upside down was devoid of life, and that alone was enough to creep you out. Add in the vines that were everywhere and could grab you in a heartbeat, the strange roaring of a creature somewhere out in the distance, and the dead as fuck trees in the woods, and your creepy meter was so high it was screaming at you.
Eddie held your hand tightly as you walked, keeping you grounded and reminding you that he was there, that he was okay. Robin was on your other side, holding your hand too, because she was as scared as you were and you needed all the comfort you could get right now. Plus, it made walking easier, as the three of you were on alert looking for any creature, vines, or other creepy upside down denizen. You were safe from accidental stabbings, vine attacks, or anything else.
When Nancy asked if you recognised anything, you let go and jogged to her as you, Nancy and Steve tried to figure out where the hell you were. Getting lost in the woods in Hawkins was bad enough, but you could usually figure out where you where you were by the way the trees looked. Having spent your childhood in those woods, and then most of your teenage years for one reason or another, you were familiar with the area. But here in the upside down… Well, everything was weird as fuck and yet a creepy sense of déjà vu was ever present, too.
Eddie watched you like a hawk as he and Robin picked their way through forest and vines to catch up to you. Robin suddenly appeared right next to him and scared the shit out of him in the process. ‘Jesus fuck! Don’t do that!’ He told her, heart pounding as he checked on you to make sure you were okay.
Robin giggled. ‘Sorry. I just wanted to tell you something.’
‘Okay?’
‘You’re good for her, you know.’
‘Huh?’ Eddie asked, turning back to your friend. He was confused.
‘Yeah, you’ve got her out of her shell. Not that she was ever afraid of being herself, but she could be real quiet. She gets stuck in that head of hers, and she finds it hard to get out sometimes,’ Robin explained.
‘Yeah, I, uh, noticed she had, uh, more quiet days,’ he said softly, eyes trained on your form as you spoke to Nancy.
‘Yeah, some of it’s because of her mom,’ Robin said. ‘They don’t get on. But some of it is just, like, anxiety, you know? The fear creeps in and she hides.’
Eddie stared at her. ‘Seriously? She’s the bravest person I know.’
Robin smiled. ‘I know, but she doesn’t think that. But when she’s with you? There’s none of that fear. She’s just… happy.’
‘You’re saying I make her happy?’
Robin nodded. ‘Yeah. So, thanks for making my best friend happy.’
‘She makes me happy too,’ Eddie admitted. ‘I mean, I’ve liked her for ages. I just didn’t have the courage to talk to her, and now I kinda wish I had, but I also know she probably wouldn’t have said yes. Because of the whole not knowing about this stuff.’
‘Yeah, she kinda avoided guys for a while. I didn’t understand it until last summer. But it’s kinda hard to explain to someone why you spend the majority of your time around a bunch of kids at least four years younger than you,’ Robin said. ‘Well, unless you’re in a club or something.’
Eddie grinned. ‘Yeah, Hellfire works because of the different people. But we all know the same things.’
Robin nodded. ‘And y/n just didn’t seem to be interested in anyone, either. Well, except for you.’
‘Me?’
‘Yeah, you didn’t notice her watching you? Or the way she’d come up to you in class and stuff?’
‘No,’ Eddie shook his head. ‘I mean, she told me she noticed me but hadn’t approached me because of all this.’ He waved his hands around airily, almost hitting Robin in the face, who only just managed to duck in time. ‘But I didn’t realise it was because she was interested and just didn’t want to drag me into this.’
‘Yeah, she’s kinda awesome like that. She’s always thinking about others,’ Robin said. ‘So I need you to think about her. Put her first for once, because no one does that.’
Eddie nodded, looking at you as they caught up to you and smiling. ‘I can do that. She’s the most important person in my life.’
Robin smiled and nudged him with her shoulder. ‘See? Good for her.’
You turned around, looking for Eddie and Robin. Eddie was already looking at you, a bright smile on his face. You danced over to him, humming a song absentmindedly. Robin joined in, and then you were doing silly dance moves. Then Eddie joined and Steve once he’d spotted what you were doing.
Nancy turned around and stared at you. ‘What… are you doing?’
‘Thirty second dance party,’ you said, shrugging and holding out a hand for her to join. ‘Come on, Nance, let’s shake off the lethargy and weird creepy feeling and get ready to shoot some bats!’
Nancy laughed but joined you.
It didn’t take you long to get to Nancy’s house. It was covered in vines, inside and out, and as you stepped inside, that strange sense of déjà vu came over you. It was the same, but different. The whole vibe was off. Normally, the wheeler house was very welcoming. But the not-wheeler house made you feel like an intruder. And in a way, you were. The upside down was not your place. You didn’t belong here. The sooner you could get out of here, the better.
You were following the others up the stairs when you heard it. Dustin’s voice, coming from somewhere. He couldn’t be here, could he? You turned to find Steve beside you. You exchanged a look. He’d heard it too. Well, that was reassuring. You hadn’t suddenly gone insane and started hearing voices or something. The upside down would turn anyone insane, after all. You went back downstairs, trying to locate the source of Dustin’s voice. You weren’t sure how you were hearing him, just that you were. You knew Will had communicated with his mom when he was stuck here.
Maybe Dustin was trying something similar?
It didn’t hit you until the others had joined you in your weird search. Lights. Joyce had used lights. Christmas lights. You turned to Nancy to tell her about your idea, only to find that she’d had the same one and was trying to turn the lights on. It was then that you noticed a strange orange glow around the main light. You reached out to touch it and the light turned on. Delighted, you called the others to come and see. Now you had a way to tell Dustin you were here. You just had to figure out a better way of communicating, because there were like six bulbs on this thing.
You could use ASCII, since you and Dustin had just memorised the most recent set, but you needed at least sixteen bulbs for that to work properly, and no one else would understand. And then you realised what you did know. Morse code. Eddie also knew some, only the SOS configuration, but that helped. He tapped out the dots and dashes on the bulb, watching as it lit up each time he touched it. He kept repeating it until Dustin realised you were trying to communicate and let out a shout of acknowledgement.
From there, it was just a matter of figuring out what was happening and sharing information. Pretty soon you’d learned there were more gates out there, at each murder site. That confused you for a bit, considering they were all pretty far away, and the more time you spent in the upside down, the more at risk you were. Eventually, Robin, your genius best friend, remembered that there were bikes, and you had a mode of transport. After arranging to meet at Eddie’s trailer, you signed off.
‘C’mon, let’s go,’ Nancy said, and you all followed her down the stairs.
Eddie took your hand as you stepped into the kitchen. ‘You doing okay, sweetheart?’
You nodded, smiling at him. ‘We have a plan. Dustin and the others are okay. And you’re here beside me. How could I not be?’
Eddie leaned in and kissed you. ‘You say the sweetest things.’
‘I can be less sweet, if you’d like,’ you said, grinning at him.
‘Depends on whether you’re leaning towards mean, or something else,’ he replied, his hand moving to your waist and sliding under your shirt.
You laughed softly. ‘Oh, definitely something else.’
‘Yeah? That’s okay then,’ Eddie said, kissing you again. This kiss was hot and heavy, and you melted into Eddie’s warm embrace. You probably shouldn’t be making out in the upside down, considering the danger, but you also weren’t going to miss out on kissing Eddie.
‘Hey, lovebirds!’ Steve called. ‘Make out on your own time! We gotta move.’
Eddie laughed and pressed a soft kiss to your lips before pulling away properly. ‘Gotta get, sweetheart.’
‘Mmhmm, let’s go,’ you said, taking his outstretched hand.
Thankfully, the garage wasn’t too covered in vines. Everyone grabbed a bike but you. There were only four. Thankfully, Eddie solved that problem and had you stand on the bike pegs, holding onto him as he rode. The streets were dark and eerie as you rode to Eddie’s trailer, the silence the most off-putting thing about the upside down. In the forest, there were constant noises. Now it was utterly silent. You knew that could only mean something bad was coming, and you really didn’t want to be here when it came.
You reached Eddie’s trailer, and all of you piled in. Eddie looked around, looking for the thing that was different. You looked up and nudged him. The gate was in the ceiling, slightly complicating matters. There was a sudden noise and a disgusting belch from the ceiling, and then you could see Dustin’s face. You let out a shocked laugh, grinning up at him as he smiled at you.
‘You have no idea how good it is to see you, Squish,’ you said.
‘It’s good to see you, too. Though I don’t understand why you went to the upside down with no weapons, no plan, and you left us behind,’ Dustin pouted.
‘Yes, Dustin. We totally did that just because we felt like it,’ you said, voice dripping with sarcasm. ‘It couldn’t have been a total accident, could it?’
‘Well, Steve got dragged in,’ Robin put in. ‘And we all kinda… just… followed?’
‘We did do that,’ Eddie nodded. ‘We totally followed Steve.’
‘No, Nancy followed Steve,’ you said. ‘We followed Nancy. The smart one.’
‘I’m the smart one?’ Nancy asked, looking pleased.
‘Duh,’ Steve said.
Dustin nodded in agreement. ‘Yeah, they’re right. Nancy is the smart one. Give us a second, and we’ll figure out a way to get you back here.’
You all relaxed a little, confident that Dustin could figure it out. He really was too smart for his own good sometimes. It didn’t take long. He and the others found the sheets after asking where Eddie kept them. They tied them together and then threw them through the gate. The sheets stayed in the real world as the kids hung onto them; the ends dropping through and appearing in the upside down. Dustin slowly had the others release them, and the sheets stayed in place, giving you a way through the gate.
Robin stepped up first. She grabbed hold of the sheets and climbed out, dropping down on the other side. Eddie nudged you forward.
‘You next, sweetheart,’ he said in a tone that told you not to argue with him.
It was as you stepped forward that you heard it. A clock chiming somewhere. You turned around to find the others had vanished, and you stood facing a grandfather clock. Shit. This must be Vecna. Which meant he’d found out you were here, and he was either on his way, or he had the others in his grip, too. Panic seized you as you thought about Eddie, terrified he had hold of him and was hurting him as you stood here in front of this damn clock.
And then a powerful anger rose within you.
You kicked the clock.
‘Y/N.’
‘Oh, what the fuck do you want, asshole?’ You muttered, kicking the clock again.
‘Y/N. What are you doing here, y/n?’
‘Oh, like you own this place? Go fuck yourself!’
You turned and stomped towards the door, yanking it open. Instead of the trailer park, you found yourself standing in the parking lot of the high school. You were alone, as the other kids milled around you. All of them ignoring you as they streamed into school. Your freshman year. The other members of your D and D party had moved away, or moved on to other things. You had no one that entire year. All alone, no one to talk to, no one who saw you. And that pattern continued at home. Your mother lavished attention on Dustin and ignored you.
The thing was, though, that you’d grown strong from that. Oh, it hurt like hell to be ignored and made to feel as though you were invisible. And you should never have had to go through such a thing. But you’d hardened your skin so the bully’s insults never landed properly, and stopped caring about what people thought of you. If they were going to ignore you anyway, then you might as well be yourself and do what made you happy. And you’d learned who you were in the process.
Why bother worrying about other people when no one thought of you? You’d learned to be self sufficient, only relying on yourself. You’d strengthened your relationship with your little brother. You had grown so much in that first year of high school, and come out the other side stronger. Taking a deep breath, you stepped forward and yanked the double doors to the school open.
Only to find yourself now in the tunnels. The tunnels the Mindflayer had made beneath Hawkins for the Demodogs. It was pitch black and you could hear growling in the dark. And then you heard Dustin scream.
‘Dustin?’ You yelled, panic piercing you.
‘I warned you, y/n.’
‘Oh, go to hell!’
‘But you are already in hell, y/n. I know all your thoughts. How you really feel about your brother. Your resentment, your jealousy, your hatred.’
‘Well, now I know you’re making shit up.’
‘I see everything, y/n.’
‘Then you’re fucking hallucinating, asshole!’ You kicked the wall, testing to see how solid it was. ‘Dustin! Where are you? Call for me and I’ll find you!’ You screamed, frantically running through the tunnels, searching for him.
‘You will never find him here. You are wasting your time. And I will take everything from you.’
‘I’ll kill you,’ you seethed. ‘If you’ve hurt a hair on my brother’s head, you’re dead, you hear me? Dead!’
And then Eddie screamed.
Meanwhile, Eddie was in his own hell. You’d gone into the same trance Chrissy had entered only a few feet away. He was panicking, terrified he was going to lose you. He was shaking you, getting more and more scared as each moment passed and you didn’t come back to him. He couldn’t get you to snap out of it. He was going to lose you. He was going to lose you, and it would destroy him.
‘Y/N? Come back to me, sweetheart,’ he pleaded, his voice cracking. ‘Please, y/n, come back to me.’
‘Eddie!’
He looked up to find Dustin staring at him.
‘Lift her up so we can help her,’ Dustin said.
Eddie nodded and turned to Steve for help. Together, they got your unresponsive body into the air. Dustin and Lucas grabbed your arms and hauled you out of the gate. Once you were safely in the real world, they repeated the process with Nancy. Eddie and Steve soon joined them.
‘We need music, now!’ Robin cried, and Eddie took off for his room.
He found what he was looking for almost immediately. He hurried back as Robin complained about his music selection. Max tried to hand over her Walkman, but Eddie knew if something happened to Max because he’d used it, you would never forgive yourself or him. Instead, he lunged towards the stereo and shoved the tape inside, turning the volume as far as it would go.
Motley Crue’s shout at the devil blasted out at top volume.
Back in the hell Vecna had crafted for you, you took a step back as a dark shape came through the wall. Eddie’s screams were ringing in your ears. You could barely think as Vecna approached you.
‘You will suffer, y/n. I will make sure of it. You will lose everyone you care about. Dustin. Eddie. Robin. Max. Lucas. Nancy. Steve. Everyone.’
‘Go to hell, asshole!’
And then you heard it. Eddie’s voice. Pleading and begging you to come back. You could hear strains of Motley Crue in the background. You turned to find an opening in the wall behind you, showing you Eddie and Dustin.
‘Please, sweetheart. Don’t leave me. Not now. I only just got you,’ Eddie begged. ‘Please, come back to me.’
You turned back to Vecna. ‘Stay out of my head, and stay away from my friends,’ you ordered, and then punched him right in the face. He reeled backwards, letting out a roar, and you darted into the hole.
When you opened your eyes, you were laying in Eddie’s arms. He gasped in relief, and you saw the tears in those brown eyes you loved so much. He pulled you to him, holding on so tight he crushed the air from your body. You didn’t care. You wrapped your arms around him, holding on for dear life.
‘You came back,’ he murmured, letting you go a little so he could see your face. His thumb caressed your cheek as he laid his hand over it.
‘I heard your voice,’ you told him, smiling up at him.
‘And the Motley Crue, right?’ Dustin asked. Beside him, Steve had hold of Nancy, who was shaking. She gave you a weak smile when you looked at her.
‘I heard that too,’ you assured your little brother before turning back to Eddie.
‘I heard you tell me to come back,’ you said. ‘You saved me.’
Eddie shook his head, and you reached up and kissed him. Eddie kissed you like you were oxygen and he’d been holding his breath his whole life. The kiss was desperate and full of passion as you clung to one another.
‘I promise I’ll always come back to you,’ you swore when you broke apart for air.
Eddie kissed you again. ‘And I will always find you.’

Hi!! I was wondering if I could request a Stranger Things matchup? If you don’t have time or simply don’t want to, that’s okay!! :) However, if you do decide to, that would be amazing 💕.
APPEARANCE: I’m 4’11 (which means I get many, many short jokes), a little rounder, with brown eyes and brown hair that’s a curly bob (the best way I can describe it is like a mix between Nancy’s hair in season 2 and Robin’s hair in season 3). From what I’ve heard from my friends, I’m mostly cute- cute appearance, cute style, cute vibes. I’m not sure how I feel about it, some days I like the idea of being cute and other days I feel more indifferent or not in the mood. My style is mostly casual (jeans and a t-shirt, or a flannel if I’m feeling spicy casual, or a sweater in winter), though there are quite a few days where I love wearing a nice outfit like a cute dress or a skirt.
PERSONALITY: I’m a bisexual INFP 20 year old cancer woman. I’m a pretty anxious person, especially around new people or new situations, which sucks because my anxiety makes me awkward, and my awkwardness makes me more anxious. It’s a whole cycle. However, if we’re close, I go from 0-100, a complete 180. Awkward? Me? Never! I’ve never been awkward in my entire life!! I’m bubbly and funny and silly and loud as shit. I’m either ranting about whatever stupid & random thing I can think of, or scream laughing at the dumbest of things. It’s hard to get me to shut up. Though if I’m with someone who likes to talk more than me or has more to say, I’m always happy to listen for hours and hours on end! I basically try to match the mood of the people I’m with. Do I do it well? Uhhhhhhh--
I’m not the sharpest bulb in the toolbox- I sometimes don’t realize obvious things or forget stuff a lot. I spend more time inside of my own head than outside of it, so much so that I sometimes neglect work and other things. I also have a tendency to overthink or stress myself out or hesitate/close myself off when I’m anxious- which kinda makes me seem a bit overdramatic. I’ve got a few confidence issues, insecurities and all that jazz, but I’m trying to work on getting better.
HOBBIES: I like writing (the love of my life and my major), reading (even though I haven’t read much in ages), spending hours watching mostly any content I can get my hands on (TV, TikToks, fan-creations for whatever I’m into atm (which is stranger things rn)), spamming my friends with 20 memes in an hour, and zoning out when going on 2-hour walks. But, really, I just like doing things with my friends. So long as we’re hanging out, I’m having a good time. I may not do much, but I’m okay with that until the boredom kicks in.
INTERESTS: my favorite genres to read and to write in are fantasy and science fiction, but only in the YA category. Besides that, I do like consuming a good murder mystery or true crime documentary, and on the complete other side of the spectrum, I like a good shitty movie. I love escape rooms (real life ones and game ones) even though I usually don’t know what to do and end up being pretty useless. Shopping for clothes is my weakness, even though I have anxiety over the mall. The shirt & dress haul I bring back home makes it all worth it. I love being outside on nice sunny days until the bugs ruin everything. I love big and small attractions, from farmers markets to carnivals.
Stranger Things
Steve Harrington
I ship you with Steve Harrington! I feel like Steve would instantly start flirting with you a lot but you don't really think he is. You just think he is being nice until he asks you on a date. You knew what Steve's reputation was but you still went out anyways and you guys really hit it off. You continued to go on more and most of the time you guys talked about anything and everything! I could also see you and Steve going clothes shopping or just shopping in general in the mall. You would also come to visit him while he works since you love the mall and he works there at Scoops Ahoy! I feel like you would always have Steves attention and he would LOVE giving you attention, since he is more of a needy person (in my opinion). You would also "babysit" with Steve and actual become really good friends with. I think Steve would also help you with your insecurities and your confidence by always telling you how beautiful you are as well!
Hope you liked it! :) <3

Unexpected Surprises
Summary: Things don’t always go as planned, but sometimes they still work out.
Pairing: Steve Harrington x Reader
Warnings: Swearing, angst, evil russians
AN: Y/F/I is your favorite ice cream
Nervously you made your way over to Scoop’s Ahoy where you knew your boyfriend Steve’s shift should be over soon. The two of you had been together for some time now since you started dating soon after him and Nancy broke up, and you would be lying if you said you didn’t love the guy. The only problem was, sometimes life gets in the way no matter how careful you are.
You wipe your palms on the front of your jeans out of nervous habit as you catch sight of Steve behind the counter scooping ice cream into a cone for the little girl before him. As he hands the cone over his eyes catch yours and his face lights up in a bright smile. You try to return the gesture but by the confused look that appears on his face you can tell that he seen right through you. If you weren’t already planning on letting Steve the information you found out earlier today before, you definitely had to now.
Trying to steady your breathing you sink into the closest seat to you and wait for your boyfriend to finish work. According to your watch you had about ten more minutes before his shift was over, so that meant you had ten minutes to figure out how you would tell your boyfriend of a few months that you were pregnant. All you could do was hope he didn’t freak out too much or break up with you over it. Sure you both only worked part time jobs, but that didn’t mean that this would be impossible. Somehow, someway the two of you could make this work, you just know that you could if you tried hard enough.
Steve sliding into the seat across from you with a cup of Y/F/I dragged you from your thoughts abruptly, “Hey pretty girl,” he says warmly with offering you the ice cream with a small smile.
“Hi,” you murmur hesitantly as your scoop some of the frozen treat onto your spoon.
“What’s wrong?” he questions instantly sensing that something was off with his girlfriend.
“I need to tell you something, but I think it would be better if we talked on our way home or once we get there,” you explain looking up to examine your boyfriend’s expression.
“Okay,” he says silently eyeing you for any clues as to what’s wrong, “Is everything okay? Between me and you I mean.”
“It depends how you take the news,” you mutter sliding the other half of your ice cream to him like the two of you typically did.
He looks up at you with a nervous and uncertain expression but nods anyways while finishing off the ice cream. Once he was done he stood from his seat and threw away the empty container before waiting for you by the exit. Neither of you spoke a word to the other until you were both comfortably settled in the car and driving towards your house.
“So, what is it that you needed to tell me?” Steve asks breaking the silence that had settled between the two of you.
Nervously you played with the hem of Steve’s t-shirt that you had on that day to hide the fact that your stomach was in fact growing. For a minute you were going to back out and make up some lie, but you knew that you couldn’t hide it from him forever. He is your boyfriend who you actively have sex with, he would notice the minute he seen you naked.
Releasing a shaky breath you shift your gaze to the windows in front of you, “I recently realized that I’ve been gaining weight-.”
You’re sentence is cut off by Steve’s laughter, “you look perfect pretty girl I don’t care about how much you way.”
“Steve, I wasn’t done. There is more to the story and you might not like the ending,” you explain causing his laughter to die down, “That I realized I have had the same box of tampons in the bathroom for a couple months now.” “You always get the same brand babe, even I know that,” he says cutting you off again.
“Steve, I only have so much courage to do this and every time you cut me off it diminishes.”
“Sorry.”
“It’s okay,” you say before taking a deep breath and letting it all spill out, “It wasn’t that I had the same brand, I had the exact same box. The amount in the box never changed. So I brought it up to Nancy and she made the joke that I might be pregnant. She wasn’t serious but the moment she said it a lightbulb went off in my head. I could’ve possibly been pregnant.” The next day, after work, I stopped at the drugstore because I knew that you had a late shift and I took the test. I threw the test away because I didn’t know when to tell you or if I even wanted this. I do, no matter if you are with me or not.”
“What are you trying to tell me Y/N?”
“That I’m pregnant.”
The moment you say pregnant he slams onto the brakes swerving off to the side of the road, “What? Y/N you work at The Gap and I sling ice cream for a living. Hell I couldn’t even get into college if I wanted to, how am I supposed to raise a kid?”
“My parents could help, I know they would if we asked. And I ran into this woman who was shopping at my job last week before any of this even happened. She saw one of the drawings I was working on by the register when she came over to cash out and liked it. Long story short she asked me to come work for her as a sketch artist for her books and all the other stuff her company does. Her employee now is moving away and she really needed a replacement so I start next week.”
“I really don’t know if we can do this Y/N,” Steve mumbles pulling back onto the road and setting off for your house.
When the two of you arrive he slows to a stop but doesn’t shut off it off as he turns to you, “I’ll pick you up for work tomorrow,” he murmurs before kissing you goodbye quickly leaving you confused and slightly hurt.
Steve’s attitude didn’t change for the rest of the week and by the following Tuesday you were way passed having your feelings hurt. Now you were furious that he wouldn’t even properly face you. What used to be car rides filled with laughs to and from work each day turned into an awkward silence that was so deafening it made you want to walk.
Today he wasn’t allowed to be silent and push you away. You convinced your boss to let you out early and made your way over to Steve’s job. He was going to talk to you one way or another by the end of the day even if you have to make him talk.
The moment you arrived you knew there wasn’t going to be any talking about the issue between you two. In a corner booth Dustin, Steve, Robin, and Erica were sat around a table as the young girl munched on a bunch of ice cream. Whatever they were doing Erica apparently didn’t like, but judging by the amount of ice cream in front of her and the look on Steve’s face she apparently agreed to it.
All their talking stopped the moment you approached the table and an awkwards silence took its place in the air, “Uh, can we talk for a minute Steve?” you ask trying to ignore the tension surrounding the table.
“We’re actually kind of busy right now,” he replies in an attempt to get you to leave without talking.
“Well this is important,” you persist.
“What we are doing is probably way more important than whatever it is you are freaking out about,” he mumbled lowly. He thought you wouldn’t hear it but you did and your heart dropped to the pit of your stomach the moment the words registered in your brain.
“If it’s that important to you than fine, but you aren’t going to keep pushing me away Steven. Whatever it is that you are doing I want to be involved.”
“Y/N, no. That’s not a good idea”
“Why not?” you ssk crossing your arms over your chest in annoyance.
“Because it could be dangerous.”
“You’re letting Erica be apart of this and she’s only like ten. Plus after last year I think I can handle it.”
Steve goes to argue with you again but Dustin cuts him off, “She’s right Steve, she was a major help. Especially after you got beat up by Billy.”
“What happened last year?” Robin asks in a confused tone.
“It’s a long complicated story,” you reply casually.
“So is this one,” Robin agrees with a nod.
“Knowing these boys I can imagine,” you say with a small smile before slipping into the booth beside Dustin.
Once seated Robin and Dustin began to explain what was going on right within the very mall leaving you slightly shocked but even more worried. You agreed that you were going to help them much to Steve’s dislike then set off to get ready.
“I really don’t think you should come with us later,” Steve mumbles on the way to your house later that day.
“Well you really don’t have a choice, especially if this is more important to you than discussing our child.

word count: 1100+
summary: you just wanted to keep your job at the starcourt mall movie theater. all you had to do was find out how these kids were sneaking into the movies without coming in the front door. your small little movie theater conspiracy ends up pulling you into something a lot bigger, and a lot scarier.
previous part / series masterlist
chapter seven: closest thing to fate
You guys were stuck in a goddamn Russian elevator. After you all had your “freak-out moment,” you proceeded to pull out water bottles and snacks from your backpack – making sure the kids got some first. Steve made a comment about how you were always prepared, smile on his concerned mom face. You only had enough supplies to las you all for about two days – if that. Erica didn’t seem keen on sharing her water bottle.
You, Robin, and Steve decided to take shifts so the kids could get some sleep. You and Robin took the first shift, letting Steve take a two hour power nap. When he woke up, you urged Robin to go ahead and nap next – you weren’t sure how much sleeping you’d be able to do anyways.
Which left you and Steve Harrington sitting with your backs against the elevator door. The two of you had played multiple games of tic-tac-toe in your notebook, plus a couple rounds of hangman. Steve snorted when he realized one of your sayings was ‘Ahoy Captain Steve’. An hour had passed, and it must’ve been sometime after 3am. Games seemed boring after a while, so you turned to asking each other questions back and forth.
“Licorice fingers or popcorn ears?”
“What the hell kind of question is that, Harrington?”
“…Dustin.”
You had to cover your mouth to muffle your snickers. Steve gave you a pointed look, running his hands through his silky hair. Okay, sue you, but the more time you spent with Steve in this creepy Russian elevator, the more you were starting to like him. And his hair. If you were going to die there, you might as well enjoy yourself before it happens.
“Okay, favorite color?”
“Blue,” He answered simply.
“To match your uniform? Or the oceans of flavor you sail on?”
“Oh, shut up.” He nudged you with his shoulder. “Is your ass really on the line at work?”
Ah. Serious questions now. “My manager basically threatened me. Those kids of yours like to be a tad rowdy in the theater sometimes. But I’m more worried about dying here than my job at this point. If we get out of here, I’ll sneak you all into however many movies you want.” You sent him a smile, which he returned. You glanced over at Dustin and Erica, who were soundly sleeping on the floor. “You and Nancy, you guys broke up halfway through senior year.”
Steve tensed for a moment, but let out a sigh, “Yeah. The question?”
“Did it have anything to do with what happened to Barb?” Your question seemed to have hit something within him, and Steve stared at you harshly.
“Why are you asking?”
“It was just a question, Harrington.”
He huffed out a laugh, but it seemed more bitter than anything. “Is this all a game to you? Just more answers to whatever conspiracy theories you have in your head? The Russian thing. Me sneaking the kids into the movies. My relationship with Nancy. Now you have to ask if I’m involved in the government shit that got Barb killed?” He was whispering aggressively, still doing his best not to wake up everyone else, though you could tell that he was getting upset. A pang of sympathy went through you and you frowned.
“I never said that you killed Barb.”
“And now you’re going to assume I did.”
The tension in the room was high, and you didn’t want him to blow up any more than he already had. “Steve…” you take in a breath, “I’m sorry. My brain just runs wild and I don’t like not knowing things. And I’m a little freaked out right now. I don’t think you killed Barb. I’m not sure what happened, but even after eight years, I’m pretty sure you’re still the same ten-year-old kid who just wants someone to care.”
“What?”
Fuck. “Never mind. What I’m saying is, you’re good, Harrington. You’re so goddamn good and you just want to help. Dustin obviously looks up to you for some reason and trust you with his life. And frankly, so do I. Not sure if I should, but I do.”
And that was true; you did trust him. Maybe that trust carried over from when you were kids. Or maybe your brain just recognized the fact that Steve wasn’t a total asshole anymore. It was probably a bit of both. The nostalgic part of you had utterly missed him, and being close to him again, it made you feel a little less lonely. It was like you were adopted into this crazy little family – all because he had snuck those kids into the movie theater where you worked. You didn’t believe in fate – you had a whole list of reasons why destiny was dumb after she and Jen discussed ‘love at first sight’ – but this seemed the closest thing to it.
Steve called your name, causing you to look at him. The wrinkles in between his brows – the ones that appeared when he was either concerned, frustrated, or confused – caused you to shake your head fondly. You grabbed your backpack from beside you and pulled out one of your granola bars, holding it out to him. “I noticed you gave Dustin yours earlier, you need to eat something.”
Steve looked like he was going to argue with you, until his eyes narrowed. He was staring right at you, like he was trying to use x-ray vision. His name was about to leave your lips, but he suddenly tore his gaze away from you, grabbing the granola bar from your hand. Steve settled back down next to you, chewing on his snack.
“Thanks,” he mumbled, mouth full of food. You glanced at him, and he swallowed, before continuing, “And sorry, about blowing up on you. It’s just a touchy subject and I haven’t thought about it for a while.”
“Apology accepted, Harrington.” You smiled in his direction, “As long as you tell me the actual reason why you work at Scoops.” A groan came from the sailor next to you, “No no, don’t complain. I won’t judge, you know that.”
Steve did tell you. He went on about how his dad was a douchebag – which you knew already, you remembered meeting him once when you were kids, he hadn’t changed much – and how school wasn’t his thing and he wasn’t sure if he even wanted to go to college.
Not that you would remember everything he said, since halfway through his rant you had fallen asleep, head falling on his shoulder.
You also wouldn’t remember the way that Steve Harrington had smiled softly at you, content to give you a few hours of sleep before everyone had to wake up and make a plan.
