i put this on twitter but what if i put it here too! my favorite lines (more like...sections) from the fics I wrote in 2022 :)

(with slightly more commentary than on twitter, perhaps) (edit: a lot more commentary than on twitter)

I included my aa4 zine piece on twitter but I don't think I will here, since I didn't actually write it this year and just happened to post it on ao3 in January after the zine released. So the rest of these are all Waver fics, because in 2022 I finally unlocked the ability to write about him.

So first, I'm so pleased with the concept of this fic. I didn't really take the idea seriously at first but the more I thought about it the more I realized that it's really the premise with the best of both worlds when it comes to the question of whether Iskandar remembers Waver in Chaldea or not. All of Waver's heartbreak and inner conflict AND the actual reunion all in one fic! One of the comments called it a "delicious little misunderstanding" and I love that. I know this is very much tooting my own horn but it's also my most popular fic of them by a Lot so it feels a teeny bit justified. And my goal this year was to write the things i really wanted to read so! I love everything I wrote this year a lot!

Anyway. Excerpt.

He had thought that, in this situation, it wouldn’t make a difference if Iskandar remembered him or not. It was purely physical self-indulgence, after all—what did it matter if Iskandar only thought of him as some attractive stranger to share his bed for a night?

But something in Iskandar’s touch was different now—they had never done this before, not remotely, but it was as though Iskandar had figured him out nonetheless, like he knew even better than Waver did what would make him unravel.

Actually half my reasons for this section being my favorite is because when I thought of it I felt like I unlocked the path to the end of the fic. It was simultaneously like "yes! this is it! this is the whole point!" while also giving me something to talk about through my sex scene that wasn't like, the actual sex, so i was able to get through it without my usual ordeal. But it's also my favorite because I'm just a sucker for the concept of Iskandar seeing straight through Waver, in any context. Being around Iskandar means being subjected to the mortifying ordeal of being known, for Waver, or at least I like to see it that way.

But despite everything, when he raises his head to meet Iskandar’s gaze, an unassailable sense of reassurance overtakes him, and even though his heart is still pounding hard enough to echo in his ears, he feels as though something has slotted into place in his chest.

Waver Velvet, second-rate mage and stand-in Lord of the Clock Tower, should not be here in this alien place, trying to save the world, but at the same time, looking into his King’s eyes, he knows that he is exactly where he is meant to be.

I actually don't have much more commentary than the title itself. His rightful place! (Shameless use of the CE name because it makes me emotional and I'll never actually have it unless they rerun accel zero order just for me.) This one was fun though, and also sort of started from an idea I didn't take seriously right away. I definitely watched the entire Solomon movie hoping Waver would show up, but if my disappointment led to me writing something about it, then maybe that's fine.

Warmth [rated T, maybe it should be M?? i really couldn't decide.]

I really really wanted to write a kiss and (mostly) just a kiss. Making out is so often just a prelude to smut (in doujins especially. maybe I was flipping through too many doujins at this time lol) so I just really wanted to focus in on the kiss and that's probably why it kind of got out of hand. That and Waver's just so fun to write when he's a repressed gay 19-year-old.

All that said, my favorite part is just about Waver being Seen, again:

Waver hadn’t meant to look at him, but now he couldn’t look away. According to legend, Alexander’s eyes should have been different colors, one dark and one light, but it was hard for Waver to imagine anything more striking than the dark burning crimson that he was so used to. Had anyone ever looked at him the way Rider did? It was frustrating sometimes, how he seemed to see through Waver so easily, but that meant he was actually looking, when so many other people just dismissed Waver at a glance.

Waver couldn’t feign indifference to that gaze. Everything he wanted was laid excruciatingly bare, from his petty ambitions and his desperation for recognition, to the desire he had told himself had no place in the heart of a mage—Waver could hardly stand it, but at the same time…Rider was still looking, wasn’t he? Not with disgust, not with scorn…despite their disastrous first encounter, Alexander the Great was still looking at Waver Velvet with undeniable interest, as though he saw something of value where nobody else had, value that even Waver sometimes doubted was there.

And because I can't get enough of this whole concept, I wrote about it from Iskandar's perspective, next.

I loved writing this one. Giving myself an excuse to write about Waver's character development in Zero by making it into a fic! Iskandar POV was really fun and I hope to use it a little more in the future. While it isn't the excerpt I chose as my favorite, I really liked thinking about him getting excited about talking to Waver about the Iliad. I love when Fate points out (accurately) that he's basically a huge fanboy when it comes to Homer.

But I basically centered the fic around this metaphor so, it should be the chosen excerpt:

He’s changed.

He had the feeling of watching a desert flower burst into bloom after the briefest deluge. It was always a delight to witness the prickliest, most forbidding plants unfurl the sweetest blossoms after a rare rain, and Iskandar felt the same satisfaction now. His first impressions had not been wrong—Waver was weak and cowardly, overconcerned with frivolous matters, impatient, self-centered—but the spines and the flowers were of the same plant, after all, and it was just a matter of the proper conditions to bring out one or the other.

While this fic was largely just inspired by the thought of Waver wrapped up in Iskandar's mantle (shout out to the 4th hgw for taking place in February) I think I was also influenced by the scene right before Iskandar fights Saber (which I happened to be rewatching) because I hadn't noticed before how Waver stands next to him and just sort of...holds on to the mantle while he thinks about Iskandar's history and ideals. Prior to the scene on the bridge, it really felt like a point where Waver's attitude towards Iskandar is shown in it's final form, more or less, so I sort of wanted to place this fic directly before that scene and show Iskandar's feelings reaching that point, too.

Okay that's it! I had a lot of fun writing this year even if I didn't write a lot. My goal was just to create the things that I really wanted to see and I think I accomplished it, even if I still have things I'm working on that I haven't finished yet. Summary: Remington and Y/N have a fun movie night

It had been a week. A long week. The kind of long, endless week that had you lying face down on the couch groaning the moment you got home. You wanted your snuggliest PJs, your best friends, boyfriend, movies and some pizza. But people were busy. And there was work to do. And cleaning. And a tonne of other responsibilities falling down onto your shoulders, and you were exhausted.

When your cat came up to give you an affectionate headbutt, you couldn't help but think why couldn't life for humans be as simple as a house cat? You get fed, loved, you play all day and night and do what you want? It was while you were pondering philosophies and cats that you felt your phone vibrating in your pocket. You frowned. Please don't be anyone important, please don't be stressful, please don't...

Oh. It was your boyfriend, Remington. You shuffled yourself around on the couch, rolling over and barely avoiding tumbling off as you answered the phone.

“Hello?”

“Hey Y/N, how are you doing?” Remington's voice was a comforting sound on the other end of the phone.

“I'm good, you??” You shot back immediately, so quick that Remington got suspicious.

“..Riiight, I don't believe that but I'm not gonna push you right now. I'm actually not doing so good,” he said, slowly, “Today has just been shitty, and anyway I was wondering if you're free?”

“Ah, yeah, when?”

“Um, now? It's OK if not, I get that there's a lot going on it's just that, I dunno, I miss you.” His voice was so soft and sweet and you could almost picture him scrunching up his face a little and rubbing the back of his neck. The image melted your heart. How was he so impossibly cute all the time?

“I'm free, and I miss you too, trust me.”

It had been a few weeks since the two of you had seen each other, Remington was busy writing and recording his and his brother's new album, and you were busy with work and family responsibilities. There wasn't much time to see each other, and it was breaking both of your hearts. But you tried not to think about it, you talked every day anyway. But seeing him tonight would definitely revive you.

“So, got any ideas?” you asked, changing the mood to something lighter.

“Would it be OK if I come over? I just feel like staying in, but I also can't stand being away from you any longer, and I really can't handle another hour alone with my brothers.” Remington laughed a little and you smiled without meaning to, only able to imagine the nonsense the boys had gotten up to that day, let alone week.

“'Course! Just, um, give me a few, OK? I'm a bit of a mess at the moment.” You thought of the pile of clothes all around your room and the stack of dishes.

“Aw baby, you know I don't care about any of that, but if it makes you feel better would half an hour be good?”

“Yeah, it should be.” There was silence as the conversation started to end, then you spoke. “Oh! Wait, would it be annoying if I ask you to bring some dinner? I don't have it in me to cook.”

“Sure! What do you feel like?”

“Ah, surprise me, I trust you.” You smiled into the phone and could just about feel him smiling back. He let out a slight laugh of delight and you both said your good byes and got ready.

so I recall this line in outlast 2 when you end up in St. Sybil one of the first times. Blake says somethin like "Great. Back in the Fourth Grade." meaning those the stuff he's reliving must've happened in that grade.

And we know that 4th graders are typically either 9 or 10

(assuming Jess was in the same grade she was only 9 or 10 as well which. damn.)

But we ALSO know what year this takes place in, because there's multiple instances on papers and stuff with the year 1995 (in fact it's December 1995 iirc). I don't have any screenshots on-hand but I could totally go get some at some point lol

MeaninG Blake was 9 or 10 in 1995

We also know that Outlast 2 takes place not all that long after the first game does (due to the Murkoff Account, which, admittedly I haven't read in a while so feel free to correct me there). And we know Outlast happened in 2013.

This mean that our pal Blake is most likely 28 (or 27). Which also makes him the youngest, since Miles and Waylon are both supposedly in their "early to mid 30s" (I couldn't see the cited tweet so for all I know this could be inaccurate but it sounds reasonable enough for me to believe).

Also Waylon has two kids so I'm inclined to believe he's the oldest but like they're all like a few years apart in age anyway lol

Anyway this is probably really obvious stuff but I thought it was interesting for some reason

random minor thing but I always thought that while Frisk's SAVEs are like normal manual save point saving you'd expect to see, when Flowey steals back control as Omega Flowey, the whole "File x loaded/saved" thing gives the vibes of someone using an emulator. Where you have multiple interchangeable save states that you can save or load to whenever you want, even if the game isn't normally capable of that.

In particular it makes me think back to repeatedly loading a save state in Majora's Mask because of the goddamn town shooting gallery mini game AUGh

Which I guess it kind of makes sense? Omega Flowey is artificially stealing control of the game, sort of like how an emulator gives you an artificial way of accessing a game (in the sense of like I could play a PS1 game on my pc, or a N64 game on my Wii U, for example). So not only does his save system make sense from an in-game stand point, it's kinda cool from a meta standpoint too.

At least, I think it is.

Psychonauts was big on my mind for a short while there and although it's not my current focus, the games are still really great!! And I still like this little drawing I did of Raz.

It was interesting trying to translate his design to my art style, because that game has a very particular look (in a good way).

“This is your first lesson,” the Red Robe said, and so far the thing had been pretty fucking spooky. Lup figured she should have been terrified, but instead there was just something... mildly unnerving about the whole thing. Like this was all wrong, but she couldn’t place what exactly was off. 

“This is...” he repeated, his voice seeming to falter some in its deep, grumbling echo into something a bit more alive. “This is... this isn’t enough to make up for everything, but I hope it might be a start,” he continued, and he didn’t have a face, not really, but Lup couldn’t help but feel like he was staring at her. 

Then he waved a hand, and Lup felt the new weight on her wrist immediately. She jerked, ready to fight off whatever was grabbing her. 

But the Red Robe was gone, and instead of some sort of chain dragging her down or cuffs locking her in place, there was just... a bracelet. It was exactly her style, golden bands wrapping around with red gems inside, and all she could do was stand there for a moment and stare at it.

“Huh, hey!” she said, trying to yank her arm away when Taako grabbed it. Before she could though he was casting something, a befuddled look on his face at the end. 

“Weird, it’s not a trap? I think it’s supposed to protect you?” he said, and Lup’s face lit up at that, quickly casting identify on the thing as well. He was right, there was definitely some sort of protection, abjuration magic there. 

“Aw, why don’t we get cool ghost gifts?” Magnus asked, clearly disappointed. 

“Maybe it’s some sort of competition. Like, the prettiest gets the cool ghost gift,” Lup said, grinning at the bracelet. 

“I’m pretty! What standards are we going by? I need some parameters,” Magnus insisted, and Taako was already rolling his eyes. 

“Okay, that’s clearly not the deal because I would win no questions asked. Anyway we should probably get out of here before someone notices the fucking corpse behind the desk,” he said, and he had a point. They quickly left, and after a quick debate Lup hid the bracelet in her bag before they got up to the base. 

The director wasn’t happy when they got back, and she was even less happy to hear about the Red Robe. It made sense. He was evil. He made the relics and tried to destroy the world, they couldn’t trust him, they couldn’t talk to him, they couldn’t give him any chance to trick them. 

Except when Lup sat awake in her bed that night, staring at the bracelet she realized that the quickened breath and fast heartbeat she’d been feeling when the Red Robe appeared wasn’t from fear. 

No, she was fairly sure she had a crush on the Red Robe. 

Shit.

So the line 'he's here!' In We Don't Talk About Bruno is explicitly the family announcing that Mariano has arrived, but it's also pretty strong and straightforward foreshadowing of the fact that Bruno never actually left, he's here

My #1 post of 2022

Have I ever talked about the time I lied to a priest, committed blasphemy, and made up a whole church when I was like, eight?

So I went to catholic school for six years, despite the fact that neither of my parents went to church, were not religious, and my mom isn't even catholic. But I went to this school which had us do all the pageants and advent calendar and the stations of the cross, during lent we had morning announcements in the attached church and sometimes we couldn't have recess outside because our playground was just the church parking lot, and whenever there was a funeral it was too full of cars for us to play.

And one thing they do in catholic schools is have you do the whole church service on occasion, which includes things like communion. But it was the school church, and most of the kids had their first communion, ya know, one of the holy sacraments, at their own personal churches.

I didn't have a church though, the only time my family had ever stepped foot in a church was to come see me do school plays. I had never even been baptized.

So what was the already heavily bullied, autistic, must-not-make-adults-mad child to do?

Why, lie of course!

We had to fill out a paper saying what church we had been baptized at for a project. At 8 I lied and made up a church. I do not remember if I gave the same name when asked where I got my first communion by a teacher who was disappointed that she 'missed' it, but I was never called out on it if I didn't.

When we moved to third grade and were allowed to start doing communion with the rest of the church, since we were all supposed to have done first communion at this point, I listened incredibly carefully to the kids in front of me, watching and observing to be able to mimic what they did so that no would realized I'd never done it before. It turns out having to learn how to mimic at a young age to avoid bullying for the autism was a very useful skill.

Also, just rinse and repeat the same steps for when I lied and did confession without the sacrament as well.

Ya know, this would probably be the exact type of thing to admit to in confession. Every step here was definitely a sin.

i was actually talking about this last night (with an extremely annoying allistic person), and i do have an answer.

first of all: im not going to come at this from a "neurodivergent" perspective as a whole. there are many ND-coded characters who are very cruel and poorly written rep, especially when it comes to psychosis, personality disorders, and OCD. hell, there's even a lot of accidental autistic "rep" that is infantilizing, demonizing, and/or makes us the butt of the joke (especially wrt 'savant autistics' and high support needs, the 2 sort of opposite sides of the spectrum), though for the purposes of this post i won't focus on those.

the answer to the question "why are the best written [by allistic people] autistic characters accidental?" is that they are the only ones not directly influenced by the creator's stereotypes and bigotry towards what autism actually is.

Take Wednesday Addams as an example, since Wednesday (2022) is popular right now. Her flat affect, odd movements, difficulty socializing and forming attachments, black and white thinking, enjoyment of routine, unique ways of showing affection, dislike of hugs, and strange sense of humour all pull together into a very autism-shaped character. This was probably not on purpose. Wednesday is the product of creators--from 2022 and all the way back to the 60s, when the Addams family was first created--who just go, "I wanna make a freaky character. a real weirdo. someone who doesn't fit in, but they're loved for it anyway", more or less. The creators then pull on their ideas of what someone who does not fit in looks like, which is often influenced by autism (and, in Wednesday's case, also probably antisocial tendencies, but i don't have ASPD or conduct disorder so I can't really speak on that) and the autistic people around them, whether they know it or not. Thus, Wednesday becomes heavily autistic coded.

However, because they are not purposefully making her so, they don't fall into the trap of assuming 1) autistic people have no traits outside of autistic ones, 2) autistic people don't 'deserve' arcs, 3) autistic people are only jokes and tragedies, or 4) autistic people should only exist to make allistic characters look better/kinder. They may or may not hold these beliefs about people whom they know to be autistic--regardless, because they don't realize Wednesday is autistic, they don't assign those things that "should" happen to autistic characters to her.

I firmly believe that if the creators of Wednesday (2022) had sat down and said "let's make Wednesday autistic!" and advertized as such, we would have gotten roughly the same personality, but with so much less nuance, subtlety, and kindness, because many (even if not all) or the creators and actors would be working with those previously mentioned assumptions.

Obviously this does not only apply to Wednesday Addams--it can be about any autistic or autistic-coded characters, I just think Wednesday helps get my point across pretty well.

TLDR: accidentally autistic characters tend to be some of the best rep because they're the kindest rep. The creators of accidentally autistic characters still view them as full humans, even when that may not be the same for purposely autistic characters. (This is why characters by autistic authors and allistics who actually listen to autistics also tend to be good. It's not about what traits they have--blaming it on that can fall into the trap of being ableist, especially toward "stereotypical" autistics--it's about how they get to be people.)

Could someone please tell me why the best, most well-written neurodivergent / autistic - coded characters are always BY ACCIDENT

Au where the Waynes have to make a reality TV show because people get too close to finding out who they are. Everyone develops their public persona as follows.

Brucie Wayne:

Wears makeup all the time.

Really clumsy but has a quick reaction time regarding when his kids are about to fight. Yes, he can sense it from the other side of the house.

Mama bear, will panic if someone gets as much as a papercut.

Always wears dark colors because if he wears anything else he always manages to get them dirty somehow.

Will sing to pop songs, gets all the lyrics wrong except the chorus.

Glitter. He always wears at least one thing that is glittery at all times. He also uses a glittery bat-themed pencil pouch in his office (cass got it for him as a joke).

Kathy Kane:

A gay aunt icon.

Fashionable but in a classy way/simple enough to still fight if needed.

Will physically attack one of Bruce's kids to "prepare them for if they get kidnapped".

Damian's favorite, he will go ask her for permission first instead of Bruce. She typically allows him before looking at the camera like 'this is about to be good'.

Is one of the best at giving advice.

He has some of the best comebacks out of his brothers. And yes, most of them are along the lines of, "I died, bitch! I'll kill us both and drag you to hell myself! They love me there, unlike some people!"

Claims he doesn't remember what happened those years he was "dead" and says that he still have bad memory problems to get out of doing stuff because he "forgot".

Plays into the bad boy/street kid stereotypes.

Tends to yell a lot/doesn't have an inside voice for shit.

Adrienn Banai: The Rat Lover

I didn't want to post about any of this, but this person forced my hand.

I can't let this person run around on this hellsite anymore.

For those not in the know, this person harasses artists into drawing their husbando: a rat character named "Grey" from the children's series "Larva Island". Sometimes they also harass people into drawing Grey's grandpa, a female version of Grey named "Greyless", Grey wearing Roxanne's dress from "A Goofy Movie", and plenty of parodies of the opening scene of said movie. Like, they subjected one person to draw that same sequence with different characters like 6-7 times. And the "best" part? Sometimes they steal the poor victim's art to claim it as their own. And sometimes, they create edits of them WITHOUT CREDITING THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS. And when they do get caught, they apologize. A lot. But that's only a front to get respect again.

And I was one of their unfortunate victims. This person is weird as all hell; they ship this rat with Pibby (a character that is canonically from a preschool show), Meilin Lee (A hecking 13 year old girl), and Adrienn themselves.

The rat, according to the user, is 15 while the female version of the rest, his girlfriend, is 12.

Adrienn themselves are either 17 or 19.

The fandoms they follow are: -Courage the Cowardly Dog -Friday Night Funkin -Learning with Pibby -Little Nightmares -Turning Red -Anything Disney related (Goofy mostly) -Steven Universe -Made in Abyss -Road to El Dorado -Eddsworld -Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles -Super Mario series and, most importantly, Larva.

It's already kind of weird enough, but then I did more digging on this person. They have a butt ton of accounts on a multitude of social media websites. They have a few on reddit, a few on wikia, one on vimeo, and a few on behance, of all places. They have a long history of harassing users, especially on reddit and wikia. They have the most accounts on Tumblr, with five (two of them are inactive.) The second biggest is wikia, with four. The earliest accounts were on DeviantArt, which makes a lot of sense. Oh, but it gets better. They have uncensored nsfw content on two tumblrs. This is from one of their accounts. I am not going to show you the image, but I'm going to show you the tags:

I mean, I'm glad that they tagged it as "rule 34", but I'm more surprised about how tumblr didn't purge those posts or ban the user entirely. So, if you see someone with any of these accounts ask you to draw this rat, dump the ask and block em. My comfort shows are Richard Osmans House of Games (no surprise there really), QI (specifically from when Sandi took over as host), and Man Down.

With the Kathrine Ryan thing - I've always got a vibe from her that felt a bit off, if that makes sense, and what you said she talked about makes me realise that vibe wasn't totally wrong.

I've not seen House of Games, but it seems like fun. I don't think I've ever seen Richard Osman appear in anything and not thoroughly enjoyed his presence. He's probably my favourite not-quite-technically-a-comedian to see on any shows.

I also agree about QI. There were a lot of good moments in the Stephen Fry era, moments that were funny and worth returning to in re-watches. But for going back to it as a comfort show, it has to be the Toksvig era. Her and Alan are perfect humans.

And yeah, the thing about something being off about Katherine Ryan snuck up on me a little at a time across 2022. If you're curious about further explanation for something being "off", I wrote in more detail about her show and its anti-vax defending stuff after I saw it last month. My conclusion is I don't think she's an awful person or anything, but if we're looking for feminist representation in comedy, we can do better than Katherine Ryan.

OH OKAY!!! I know what you're talking about now, anon! That's Terraforming the Red Planet from last year's Ask Box Advent Calendar (2022) that @damnsmartblueboxes prompted. I loved that ficlet!

I guess the search function really has gotten worse because I feel like I would have been able to find that before? Or maybe the search function is ONLY tags which... I consider worse at least...

Anyway, thank you for clarifying, because I would very much like to do a remix on this ficlet.

So the pieces we have to play with are:

the chosen quote to be remixed into the title, "the only reasonable objection (to her increasingly alarming plan)"

the characters involved which are Shikako, Mei, Zabuza, child!Haku, child!Sand Siblings, and Tenzo

Shikako either "kidnapped/rescued" all of the others from their respective terribad situations

she has plans to revitalize the Sora-ku region (and maybe kidnap/rescue the entirey of the Uchiha clan) of which above listed other kidnap/rescue-ees would be very helpful in doing so (maybe)

First thing's first: if the "her" in the title is NOT Shikako then it COULD be either Mei or Temari. Considering the original ficlet is from Mei's POV--and also I consider Temari to be relatively level-headed--it would make sense that whatever the alarming plan is would then be Mei's.

Cool. If that's the case, what scenario exists such that Mei can have an alarming plan that members of several other villages would listen to (despite the increasing alarm of said plan)? Some kind of international threat/phenomenon that is affecting multiple nations, including three of the big five.

Obviously that threat/phenomenon is Shikako.

So what's coming to mind--turns out it's another @damnsmartblueboxes Ask Box Advent Calendar prompt, this time from 2020!--is actually some sort of variation of still waters (run deep).

In that fic--which is also a post Split Gardens--Shikako has been going around fixing various international things before finally settling/reviving Uzushio. Shisui gets sent out to investigate because the Uchiha clan have successfully coup-ed (or maybe Hiruzen had a heart attack and then they just killed Danzo so everything worked out okay) Konoha and they need to see what the heck is going on.

Instead, what if Shikako never settles down? She just keeps going around the world pulling off literal earth changing miracles and disappearing before anyone can get mad at her (or thank her.) The civilians (and some of the younger/weaker shinobi) start praying to her as a god because, yes, they know there are powerful jounin-level shinobi who can make dragons out of water or turn into a giant chakra kaiju or whatever, but do any of them help grow crops when there's been a three year drought? I don't think so!

Anyway, imagine all that, but also Shikako is, like, seven.

I mean, the international coalition doesn't KNOW she's seven, but if/when they finally catch up to her, they will find this teeny tiny little girl with the power of a god.

So the way I would do this--and this is probably incredibly influenced by the fact that an ever-growing mass of metal and sinew by backupdaughter has recently updated--but it WOULD be something like...

Tenzo/Yamato's gets a mission to look into the rumors of another Mokuton user floating out there in the world. At first, it just seems like scutwork--a few farming villages' crops are doing better than predicted--UNTIL he hears news of an over night spontaneously appearing oasis in Land of Wind, then it's serious.

Obviously, the Sand Siblings are not doing so hot politically after the failed invasion of Konoha. They're still undoubtedly the most powerful shinobi--or at least, potentially--of Hidden Sand, but they're still teenagers at this point who have to deal with the fallout of their dead father's mistakes. If they can find this mysterious being who can make oases in the desert--in the most DANGEROUS, DEAD part of the desert--then maybe they can prove to the village that they are still the scions of the desert, leaders of Hidden Sand.

I'm unsure when in the Mist Rebellion's timeline we are. Because on the one hand, if Mei is already Godaime, then it makes sense as to why her plan would be listened to even if it is by members of two others of the big five rather than her own people. But if she was already Godaime I can't see why she, AND Zabuza, AND Haku would be available to trek around the Elemental Nations in search for mythical being who may or may not be a god or a Mokuton user or just a really good political bargaining chip.

Either way, the (alarming) plan is this: since the mysterious they're all trying to catch goes out of their way to protect civilian towns/villages and seems to avoid the major Hidden Villages, Mei is going to set off a volcano :)

Okay, not REALLY, but she can certainly fake it enough to make the nearby civilian village very nervous--perhaps it's supposed to have been dormant for decades/centuries, so the fact that it appears to be waking up is enough to draw out the mysterious being.

Teeny tiny figure riding a massively antlered war deer (that summons hasn't been seen in decades and even then the people who would have seen them aren't the people on this mission, so it may very well appear like deer are the messengers/mounts of gods) comes through, starts building a fuinjutsu array to protect the civilian village, and the multinational team go in and scoop her. And, like, they don't have any hostile intentions, so she (and Heijomaru) were caught off guard.

Zabuza is just like! A child! An overpowered child! Tenzo/Yamato is confused and or having flashbacks, trying to figure out if this kid does have Mokuton (and is thus part of a later batch of Orochimaru's experiments, in which case does this now make him an older brother?) or if it is SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY. The Sand Siblings and Haku are also conflicted in the sense that they also remember being incredibly overpowered children with too much on their shoulders but that they wished someone had spared them the pain.

And Mei is just like... all according to keikaku (keikaku means plan) :)

Also, if you're wondering why Shikako appears to be a seven year old in this... it's because I think it would be funny? And it does sort of remix the vibes of the original Terraforming the Red Planet... I guess the diegetic reason would be... maybe the last world she was in, their main issue was Jashin, so when she appears in this world she decides to prioritize locking him out and wrecking his temple first. He/his monks don't really go down without a fight, but rather than turning an entire country to ash, it just eats a significant chunk of her life energy. But because she's imbued with Gelel/more in touch with her own godly nature, she just de-ages physically instead. So still mentally the same and still with access to all of her techniques/abilities/stuff via hammerspace. Just teeny tiny. :)

I’ll be honest anon, I don’t know where this title is from. I’m trying to look back at my fic to see if I ever used some variation of “the only reasonable objection;” I don’t know if the search function of tumblr has gotten worse, but I cannot find it. So I don’t really know what direction to go in for the title remix, because my interpretation of title remix is this post in which I received a quote from a previous ficlet and the challenge I made for myself was to take the quote and original ficlet, get the vibes, and then shake it up into a “sort of same but different” ficlet.

Ie, the original was about Shikako meeting a young Ibiki who is suspicious of her existence. The title remix was about a T&I Ibiki trying to get a suspicious Shikako to trust him with the truth.

So if you could maybe clarify your prompt or remind me which ficlet that quote is supposed to be from, I can try to do a proper title remix on it. Or if that's not what you were aiming for, could you clarify what you mean by title remix?

ANYWAY if it helps Boba will be anywhere from 46-48 (he isn't entirely sure) in the fic, only a few years older than Loki in asis!! Still an age gap but he won't be a senior citizen lmao. The chapters will also be SUPER long and detailed, it'll only update once or twice month. The writing is kinda crazy and it's absolutely going to be my best work - the scenes I have written are already polished and the best writing I'm capable of producing. And AUGH I'm so glad you read my Mando fic?? Fun fact I wrote that before I had even seen the show. I had just looked at gif sets and was waiting on a friend to give me their disney+ login.

Also... the way I feel when I hear that people read The Archetype is indescribable. It didn't pick up the way She Shall Have (which I try very hard not to think about lol) did, but I LOVE The Archetype. Like I've said, not many people read it so it feels like those who did are all in a cute lil bookclub with me and we all just chill and hang out in the abandoned corner of the local library it's great it's rad even.

I also totally get being thrown by the professor AU that asis is. Remember how Emma Watson talked about figuring out from a feminist perspective if she was comfortable starring in Beauty and the Beast? I feel similarly about asis. I actually had a bit of crisis this week because I realized it doesn't pass the Bechdel test lol. But it's not for everyone and it is intimidating. I feel like the only reason it's not uncomfortable is because the fact their relationship has the potential to be unbalanced is acknowledged - which I don't think many other professor AUs do. Which is totally fair btw, it's a fantasy so it makes sense. My goal with asis was to explore grey areas and this is a great trope to do that through. I also wanted dilf! Loki. I'm glad you ended up liking asis though and I have so much fun going over theories + talking to you!!

There were lots of dangerous people he had faced in his life. Jabba the Hutt. Moff Gideon. He could even tack the Sarlacc onto that list, having earned the title as the only being in the galaxy to face off with such a creature and live to tell the tale. Boba Fett fought and he fought, and even now, he just kept winning.

Heads turned when he entered bars, paths cleared wherever he walked. Other bounty hunters backed off when they heard the legendary Boba Fett was hunting the same target as them. When it came to Boba Fett, those around him knew their place.

That was what he enjoyed. Respect. He demanded it, in fact, and wasn’t afraid to take it when it was not given.

Of course, it had been awhile since anyone had stood up to Boba, denied him the respect he so obviously deserved.

That is, until you came around.

Yeah the premise is that y/n accidentally helps one of Boba's bounties escape him. When Boba tells the reader about the horrible crimes the bounty is wanted for, she teams up with him to travel the galaxy and capture the criminal - even though it's her first time being off planet.
