I loved your fantasy piarles and it’s probably my favorite fantasy au ever! The whole universe and magic was so cool and such big brained energy! I have to ask is there any more background or snippets you could give of the other characters? I’m so intrigued about Maxiel (Max was probably my favorite side character and loved the way you described him) and Carlando (Did they end up together forever and what is their life like?!?). LEWIS I have so many questions about and Seb and his sad farm!!!!!! (Is there Sewis?!). Now that I’m thinking about it Kimi and his pack!!! GEORGE AND ALEX (rich billionaire immortal boys just trying to live normal everyday lives) Ahhhhhhh I’ve read it three times already and I just keep thinking about it over and over.
Anon!!!
Let me tell you some things about this world because I built such a little world in my head as I was writing this fic.
Max was the first character that I conceptualized for this fic. I was writing this fic at the same time I was writing the Carlando piece of Blue Neighbourhood and I didn't know if I was going to write this as a Piarles story or a Carlando story. (It was meant to be a Piarles story though.) I knew who Max was going to be.
Obviously in this world, all immortal creatures are born and Max's father (who is powerful, but not as powerful as he'd like to be) had children with a very powerful witch essentially to...get the strongest children. Evil, vile man. Much like Jos IRL. Anyway, Max is raised in isolation with his father chasing some kind of something, he's never really sure, but he knows it's like A Big Deal.
He meets Charles at one of the only summits he's allowed to go to and they become friends and it's the first peak at a real life and then he somehow convinces his father to let him go away to study and that's how he meets Daniel. Charles absolutely encourages that and they fall in love.
Jos finds out about it and freaks out and starts to hunt them with some of his shady people and they bond with the help of Max's mom (who he hasn't seen in a long time).
When Jos discovers them, he is beside himself and that's when he goes after Max's sister, but the bonding really took it out of Daniel and Max so they can't go after him, so Charles does. And that's where the life debt comes from with Max.
Daniel really just spends the next hundred years showing Max the world before they buy a place in New York.
Now, Carlando.
They do end up together. Something that I didn't mention in the epilogue that is just pure HC is that Charles and Pierre and Co. work out the ritual to not just make vampires, but also werewolves. (And they make it happen without nearly ending in death all around.) ((And this is also what Jos was chasing - The Big Thing.))
I mentioned Carlos was studying native animals when he met Lando and Carlos would really rather be a werewolf. He's 35 when Lando turns him and then Lando takes him to see every single mountain range in the world and listens to his endless lectures.
Lando and Carlos eventually settle down outside of Serra de Tramuntana in Spain because the entire island is actually wolves - which they discover while they're visiting.
It turns into kind of a preternatural getaway resort type of town within the century and Lando finds the family he's been looking since his birth packs death.
Lewis and Seb and Kimi:
"They're the old generation". In that, they're all much older than the others and they were the ones who "broke tradition" and kind of paved the way for the younger crowd to have the lives they do.
In my brain: Seb and Lewis come and go out of each others lives because Lewis likes to travel in his plane and rubs elbows and do what he wants and Seb is happy to have his farm and give a place to preternatural creatures who need a place to recover. They're happy. It works for them.
Kimi continues to run Seattle with his rogue pack and he loves being out of the preternatural world - but he's always begging the kids to stop dragging trouble into his land.
George and Alex:
They really just want to live their lives. George is a doctor and he loves being a doctor and Alex runs through all kinds of occupations - he owns a diner, he's a teacher for a little while - at a human school.
But then you know, Charles and Pierre take in the witchling child (but then there's a werewolf cub and they even foster a selkie for a little bit while Seb finds a family of selkies to take them in, but they end up with two witchlings, a werewolf, and a vampire for keeps) and when it's time to send her off to do some formal education, they're shocked to find that...the school that Max and Charles attended together has...It's not good.
Charles calls Alex and is all, "We can't send her there, think of all the children that are being deprived of vital schooling, it's so sad Alex, won't you think of the children. Anyway, Lewis already bought us some land in the wilderness of Canada and we have all of the permits and approval from the council already, so..."
And thats how George and Alex end up as Headmaster's of The Hamilton School for Preternatural Creatures. (There might be half a fic floating around in my brain about that, but don't push it. Ok. I can't take that on right now. *crosses fingers behind my back*)

[Tales from the Pack] Joshua: Second Chance (Part Nine)
Tumblr media
Characters: Joshua x female reader
Genre/warnings: werewolf au, fantasy, sort of fluff???, sort of angst???, idk what this is lmao
Word count: 1,499
Summary: After his mate died, Joshua always blamed himself and never wanted to imprint again. However, fate has other ideas when he meets you: a young, energetic werecoyote that’s quite the opposite of him. He insists he doesn’t want a new mate – nobody’s even sure if he’s ready for a new one – but he can’t ignore his instincts.
Previous | Next | Second Chance Masterlist
There was silence between the two of you, Joshua not really sure what to do or say while you just watched him and waited to see what he would do. Were you sure he was going to come find you eventually? Yes. Considering his patterns, he wasn’t going to just let you leave and waste away like he claimed he was willing to do. But did you know what he planned on doing when he found you? Absolutely not. So you waited.
Finally, Joshua walked closer to you before sitting down next to you, leaving about a foot of space between you. He looked around the small cave, making a face.
“You live here?” he asked.
“Uh huh.”
“Why?” he turned his head to look at you like you were insane.
You shrugged, “I don’t have a lot of options. It’s this, in a tree, or just...out in the open, I guess.”
His face softened slightly, “Really? That’s it?”
“I don’t have anywhere else to go.”
Joshua closed his eyes and sighed. You couldn’t tell if he was annoyed or not, “Yes, I know that. But why?”
“What do you mean?”
“Oh my lord...” he mumbled to himself, leaning his head back and looking at the cave ceiling. After a moment, he looked back at you. “Why don’t you have anywhere else? Where did you come from? What happened to your family or your...pack?”
You blinked at him a few times, your eyes not moving from his golden ones. He was looking at you expectantly.
“Well?” he pressed when you didn’t say anything.
“Jo-- ...J-- ...Um...can I call you--”
“Yes, you’re allowed to call me by my own name,” he sighed, seeming annoyed that you felt like you had to ask.
How were you supposed to know if you could? He seemed to get annoyed by anything you did, and you were hoping to make whatever was going to happen go a lot smoother than any other confrontation you’ve had with him.
“Joshua,” you said his name slowly, like you were testing it out. “Joshua, it seems kind of unfair.”
His eyebrows furrowed together, “What does?”
“You want me to tell you about me, but you won’t tell me anything other than that you hate me.”
He was shocked you were so blunt with him. It took him off guard. You were always so passive, and now you were suddenly standing up to him? It wasn’t really a bad thing, it just took him off guard.
“I know you don’t mean it,” you continued when he stayed silent, trying to gather his thoughts after you blindsided him with a statement like that. But when you said that, his eyes snapped to you. “I just--”
“Hang on,” he interrupted, leaning closer to you, eyes narrowed, “how do you know I don’t mean it?”
“It was obvious. There were multiple things that kinda added up,” you shrugged like it was obvious.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” he scoffed.
“Your pack told me a little bit about werewolves and a little more about what I am. If the mate thing is real, and we’re really...mates, then I knew it would be really hard for you to actually hate me. I figured maybe you just wanted to hate me because of...her. You know.”
Joshua seemed to soften, and his tone was quieter when he spoke, “You... You can say her name.”
You nodded slowly, “B-because of...Lilly. And I get that. I didn’t blame you -- I don’t blame you. Anyway, that, and the fact your actions made it really obvious...”
You shrugged after you trailed off, not really knowing what to say next. That was it, really. You just knew Joshua didn’t actually feel how he said he did about you.
He studied you silently for a moment, eyebrows faintly knitted together. He scooted a little closer, still leaning into you like he would find the answers he wanted if he just stared at you long and hard enough.
“But why were you so patient with me?” he wondered. “You didn’t have to be. I’m some asshole you just met.”
“Your pack asked me that,” you smiled softly when you remembered the conversation. “They told me I should just snap back at you. Yeji told me to just punch you in the face. But I told them how I felt toward you. I’ve never felt this way before... They said it was...love?”
Joshua scoffed loudly in your face before leaning away. He started laughing, shaking his head and looking away from you as he kept laughing. He looked back at you finally, an amused smile still on his face.
“You don’t love me,” he told you. “That’s just the imprinting pull.”
“Isn’t that what the pull is? Instant love?”
“_____, you don’t know me. And what you do know of me is just me being a dick. You don’t love me.”
“Seungcheol said he loved Jooyeon the moment he saw her, and even when she tried to escape out the kitchen window,” you pointed out.
“Okay, but she didn’t tell him she hated him.”
“Yes she did.”
“And that she’d rather die.”
“Yes she did.”
Joshua frowned when he realized he wasn’t winning the conversation or getting you to back down -- he also hated how wide and innocent your eyes were when you spoke, looking back at him like you were 100% sure you knew what you were talking about -- so he just huffed and sat back on his hands.
“Kyung said--”
“Kyung says a lot of shit,” he grumbled.
“She said she was like you,” you told him, your voice smaller now because you noticed Joshua was getting angry, but you still wanted to make your case. “She said Hansol loved her even when she pushed him away.”
“_____, you don’t even know what love is,” he stated. “I do, and trust me, you do not love someone like me.”
You stayed quiet for a moment. It wasn’t because you thought he was right or you were dropping your case. It was because you wanted to know who the person who did get to love someone like him was like.
“Can I ask you something?” you asked him quietly.
“Sure,” he murmured.
“Can you tell me about Lilly?”
He looked at you, his features soft as he considered your question. He took a deep breath as he shifted the way he was sitting, bringing his knees up a little and resting his arms on them.
“Lilly Green was someone I’d known my whole life,” he told you, staring at the cave floor. “We were best friends since we were kids. I think I loved her before I even shifted. She was always meant for me. She understood me better than anyone else. She didn’t put up with my shit, but she helped me be...a little less of an ass. She was kind and smart. She always knew what she was doing. She loved me, and she loved my brothers. She loved Soomin and Beom. She just loved...life.”
You couldn’t see his eyes filling with tears, but you saw the droplets leave his eyes and hit the rock beneath him.
“Sometimes she did reckless things like put herself between the pack when they were mad, but she always somehow knew it would help the issue,” he continued, his voice unwavering even though he was crying. “It was like she knew everything. She was so motherly and nurturing. She always knew what to do and say to make things okay. She was...truly the most amazing person who has ever walked this earth.”
You listened to his words carefully, and you felt a pang of hurt in your heart. It wasn’t because he was talking so highly of someone who wasn’t you -- you didn’t care, you understood he loved her. It was because Joshua was sad and there was nothing you could do to help him. You didn’t even know if you could try to comfort him and wipe his tears. You didn’t want to make things worse.
The next question was on the tip of your tongue: how did she die? But Joshua’s mouth opened to let out a big yawn, and he rubbed his eyes to get rid of the tears. It was late, and Joshua had tracked you down in the middle of the night. No doubt he was exhausted.
Your question could wait for another time.
“You should go home,” you advised softly. “It’s really late.”
“Yeah,” he breathed with a nod.
He pushed himself to stand up -- at least as much as he could -- and began to walk out. But he stopped after a few steps and turned back to look at you.
You knew that look. You’d seen that look before. It was a very expectant look that he’d given you the day he left the doctor’s, but this time, it was much softer.
His eyebrows raised.
Silently, you got up and followed him.

13. What's the best writing advice you've ever come across?
Oh geez I don't know about BEST... "Show don't tell" comes to mind. Brandon Sanderson has SUCH good writing advice videos on YouTube, he has whole class lectures on there and stuff he's an excellent resource for writing advice. The ones of his I keep in mind most often are 1. MOST of the time the word "that" can be dropped. It's often just filler and if you remove it it doesn't take away from the sentence at all.
2. Unless it's significant, you don't have to say a character started to do something. "He started to get up." Unless it's significant for whatever reason, like for example I have a scene where characters start to get dressed. The reason I say start is that (see? That didn't need to be there) there's a lot of dialogue between them as they're getting dressed. But if a character is just by themselves and nothing happens to interrupt them or anything like that, there's no reason to go into detail about them starting and finishing an action. You can just say "He got dressed."
3. This is slightly related to the last point. Start the story where the plot starts. Unless it's significant (most writing advice is just "unless it's significant" lmao) If the plot starts at the character's workplace or school, there's no reason to show your character going through their entire morning routine step by step and their commute. Unless you're doing it to show their relationship with their family, if you're establishing their character in a meaningful way, etc, there's no real reason for it.
4. If you find yourself getting bored writing a scene, your reader is probably going to be bored reading the scene.
21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
If we're talking revision sessions, like how many times I go into one work and edit [x] scene? Dozens upon dozens of times. I couldn't even tell you. It takes me awhile to really feel comfortable with how something looks before I can post it. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I just last night made final revisions on a prologue I started a year ago.
37. Talk about your current wips.
I have sooooo many in the progress stage. Like 200+. Actual, fully fledged wips though? (All of these I have a lot to revise more of, but as I mentioned earlier, I take a long time to revise lmao)
I write exclusively Dean/Jo fics. Why? Sometimes you like two characters on screen, your friend likes them too, you egg each other on hyping it for awhile and before you know it, it's 4 years later and you're so deep in your own fanon about them, there's no hope of return.
Tumblr media
Anyway. Let's get to the wips.
House of Memories (1k) (I have like, 6k more of this I'm working on revising though)
My newest fic!! This one is my favorite I've written so far, it's the best quality-wise IMO. *Ferris Bueller voice* If you have the means, I highly recommend checking it out. But oh BOY is it angsty. It'll get better though! Slowly but surely.
Summary:
In this AU, Ellen and Jo never died, Ellen and Bobby are together, and Bobby was never there for the final showdown with Lucifer and Michael.
After Sam sacrifices himself, Dean doesn't know where else to turn and goes to Bobby's for the night and delivers the bad news. There, he's forced to confront an old friend he'd wronged, and try to make things right while he figures out what to do in this new reality without his brother.
Preview:
She stopped halfway down the stairs. The man before her was not the same man she saw four years ago. He had gotten older, sure, but it was more than that. The spark, the little glimmer of hope that was once in his eyes, was gone. Now, they were dark and tired- the eyes of a man who had survived too much, and wished he hadn't.
Something Just Like This (3.6k)
Summary:
Dean dislocated his right shoulder a couple days ago on a werewolf hunt, so he's needed help with just about everything. Usually that falls to Sam. Now that Jo joined them, however, when he's not around, it falls to her. Which means a lot more physical contact with Dean than her poor heart can take.
Oh My God They Were Neighbors - High School AU (3.4k)
Summary:
Dean meets their new next-door neighbors and is immediately smitten with Jo, who just so happens to be his same age, so he offers to help her unpack after school.
Jo soon realizes her new bedroom window is facing Dean's before he does.
Check Yes, Juliet - High School AU (20k)
(My first ever published fic!! I don't LOVE all of it, I wrote a lot of it when I was 17, but I learned a lot and it has a special place in my heart. One day I'll get inspiration for this one back and update it lol)
Summary:
Dean Winchester and Jo Harvelle secretly dating. 'Nough said.
Preview:
"What are you doing here? I thought you were coming on Friday."
"I am," Dean said, as he climbed through the window and into her room, "But I figured you'd have nothing better to do on a Tuesday night." He teased, and flashed her a smile.
"Well, I'm not the one who came all the way over here and climbed up to a second story window for no reason, so which one of us had nothing better to do?" Jo retorted.
"That's fair." He said between a laugh.

Changing my genre (Charlie x Jo)
Title: Changing my genre
Pairing: Charlie x Jo
Prompt: Songfic for #kimsbirthdaychallenge @ilostmyshoe-79
word count: 1215
warnings: AU where Jo is an edgy larp girl and Charlie is normally not into that, Larping, Charlie being awkward and adorable
song: Changing my Major from Fun Home OST
a/n: I had two other fic idea I tried to do with this but...this happened. this is my first wlw fic I’ve written since I came out as trans. I did have my lovely assistant @becomingmyinnerdemons help me make sure it wasn’t uncomfortable. As such pretty rated G and kinda fluffy.
tagging: @brewsthespirit-blog , @smallreferencepools
Charlie totally loved LARP. She considered herself a bit of a larping queen actually. But she preferred high Fantasy, elves, dragons and magic. She felt comfortable in that setting. She could min-max her way to being the baddest bitch on the game floor. She read books like Harry Potter and the Hobbit. She liked fantasy, it was a happy place where the heroes always won—well, except for Song of Ice and Fire. It was an escape, a warm blanket of an escape. She liked fantasy. She had no interest in dark and gritty settings. Comics in the 90’s had been terrible. Batman was overrated.
She’d seen the source material a few times in her local game store. Books that were marked ADULT as if somehow playing vampires or werewolves were the mature thing to do. Charlie had plenty of adult encounters while in Middle-earth, thank you very much. But when there had been a flyer in her local gamer den for a new larp on the local college campus? Yeah, Charlie had decided to give it a go. Not because she was interested in this pretentious system but because her main game was in its offseason.
Sometimes a girl just needs a larp fix, regardless of the genre.
She had sent an email to the contact on the flyer for the online group for the game. Roads Not Taken was a silly name for a campaign but Charlie had once been in a D&D game called Elf Quest so who was she to judge? She joined the topic for new players where the Story Teller--how weird was that to call your game master?-- that told her the system was just humans who got tapped with powers to fight monsters. It didn’t sound as goth as she had been expecting.
Charlie was wowed by just how normal and geeky everyone had seemed. Just normal geeks who were planning on starting a larp about hunting monsters. One of the other players offered to help her build a character for the system. Charlie was fairly sure she could figure out how to build a character by herself but the offer game with the chance to actually know someone before hitting the game floor so she’d agreed.
They had chatted privately for a couple days before agreeing on a time to meet up before the game to go over the basics. Charlie learned her real name was Jo. Charlie loved talking to her if she was honest. She learned Jo had an older taste in music. She worked with her mom at a bar not too far away. Jo had a wicked sense of humor. Jo also apparently was super well versed in the system. She had pdf copies of all the books for the system that she had emailed to Charlie through an encrypted server. It wasn’t the first time Charlie had gotten a crush on a girl across the internet but she was falling hard for her.
Charlie felt comfortable enough to talk about her own life. How she worked in IT. What her favorite books and tv shows were and how much she really missed having a game that ran on a set schedule. How her Hogwarts house was Gryffindor and Hermione was her favorite character.
Jo said that was adorable. Charlie had screenshot that exchanges to her phone and stared at it sometimes feeling her face go red every time.
Her favorite character from Harry Potter was Ron. She considered herself to by a Gryffindor as well but Pottermore had sorted her into Slytherin of all things. Jo talked about her collection of fantasy swords as well as just knives in general. She mentioned her favorite shows were a little more mystery than fantasy. She liked terrible B horror movies as well as good horror.
Jo even made Hunter the Reckoning seem interesting and three dimensional. Jo made it a very human story. How people could just be going about their lives when suddenly the powers that be pulled back the curtain and revealed the monsters that existed in the world. Jo made the dark and gritty world of darkness even seem kind of cool.
Charlie learned from talking with Jo on her skype that Jo was in at least 3 other larps in the city. Charlie got to learn all the drama of the intersecting Organizations of larps, two vampires and one werewolf. She got to hear some off-topic stories about how her friend Dean was constantly in some new crisis in a game because he couldn’t ignore or not take the bait for a plot. She heard about how the politics of one vampire game screwed up all her fun in the other one.
Jo even asked for her facebook. Charlie had been hesitant to give it at first, it was full of some memes and her different cosplay pictures. But she gave it anyway. She liked Jo. Jo seemed like a good person. Jo was gorgeous. Her smile in her photos was infectious. Charlie found herself smiling every time she got a text or IM from Jo anyways but now she had a face to go with it.
Through facebook, she also got to put other faces to names. Jo started a small group chat with some of the other players going to the hunter game to have a slight chance at building a group that sort of knew each other. Charlie found she liked most of them thought Sam and Dean seemed to be constantly getting each other off track. Adam normally only seemed to communicate with memes. Castiel was the assistant Storyteller for the game and seemed to be trying to keep Dean from getting too out there. Charlie was falling in love with Jo’s friends too.
The only thing Charlie couldn’t seem to ask was whether Jo felt the same way about how they were getting along. They were talking all the time now. Once facebook had been exchanged then Instagram and twitter followed. Charlie wondered if she had a Tumblr but was afraid to ask, her Tumblr was overflowing with personal posts gushing about how much she liked Jo, it seemed a bad plan to open that door right now.
So when are we meeting tomorrow? Charlie texted Jo.
Want to catch coffee tomorrow before game? I want to see if the Unicorn thing is as bad as everyone says. Jo responded.
It’s a date. Charlie had responded without thinking.
Hope that means you’re paying ;) Jo had texted back.
Charlie had to lay on the bed and remember how to breathe.
Charlie totally hadn’t driven herself crazy with what to wear to meet Jo for the first time. She wasn’t sure if it was a date-date or just a ‘gals being pals’ event. That would have been insane to hyper stress about what to wear. She had stuffed her character clothes in her bag and showed up fifteen minutes early to the coffee shop and tried to calm her breathing.
When Jo walked in with a t-shirt of Captain America’s shield colored in the bisexual flag Charlie was sure she’d died and gone to heaven.
“Cute shirt.” Charlie has said waving Jo over.
“thanks. I only save it for first dates with cute girls.” Jo had grinned.
