The important skill ever i think is being able to discern whether certain aspects of art are something you should necessarily strive to achieve or if you simply enjoy looking at them tbh . Like forever and ever i will stare at amazing background art and stylized yet realistic street and building paintings but in practice i hate actually doing stuff like that so much and i actually despise painting and coloring a whole lot sometimes, let alone doing it for a background. The line work i may enjoy and i do deeply enjoy editing and adjusting values and contrast in colors but that dichotomy exists where i love background art and hate creating it. Idk. I feel like it is so easy to fall into the loop of believing you need to emulate the art that you appreciate and you forget that outside of being an artist you can just look at something and love it from afar
