ok i didn't want to ramble in the tags of that last reblog, but i think any reading of kendall that doesn't take into account that he has a big heart who cares a lot about other people, especially his family, is a really bad reading. like, the conflict about him that's compelling is literally stated in text by the show: he's not the man his father was, but he's trying his damnedest to become him, because he's lived his entire life seeking his father's approval and also having his father's behavior modeled for him (and also his mother's, because let's not forget caroline's contribution to this disaster garbage fire of a family).

this isn't to say that he doesn't have major flaws that don't impact these relationships — because that's all true. he's impulsive, short-sighted, and self-focused on how he can achieve personal ambition. but none of that precludes him from genuinely caring about people, and genuinely caring a lot. he's limited in the ways he can show that care because of what's been modeled for him, and there's some of the heart that doesn't fit into what he's trying to mold himself to be, and that's part of what leaves him such a perpetual broken wreck.

like this is... such an interesting and complex and nuanced and flawed character, and removing any sense of his genuine love and care is stripping away pieces of that.
