in the past i’d get whiplash over how much things haven’t changed and how frustrating that is and today i’m reading all these articles on cafes and shops in old strathcona in the 90s and this is dating myself certainly but the fact that i read things like “oh yeah this is the first non-smoking tim hortons in alberta and the second in western canada!” makes me double take so much
“oh yeah we have a second and third location of this hip whyte ave cafe but if you want the poetry readings you probably won’t find them at the non-smoking location” EXCUSE ME
#anyway the propaganda worked i'm SOOO glad we got rid of smoking asap#im old enough that i remember designated smoking areas#like indoors etc but by then they were already being phased out#the other funny thing is the constant ups and downs of old strathcona from seedy and dead to seedy and hip to seedy and corporate#anyway does anyone remember a store on whyte that had like a zillion million cat things or#my one early memory of whyte ave is getting a little cat hole punch#and whenever we were in the uni area id be like Please the Cat Store ;;#hapo reads canadian history#hapo reads queer history#this article being like nooo dont take tims away#its the last bastion of smokers coffee and cigarettes go so well together#aaaaaaaaa no yuck ick
