okay, but, I LOVE the idea that Aresiba writes to Wuk Lamat, Yahima, and Koana during her travels-- and yet NOBODY knows that she's the Warrior of Light when she comes back to tural. (hc under cut bc im yappin, very minor bg dawntrail spoilers. im talking MIIINOR background stuff.)
Thing is, when Aresiba tells them about her adventures, she very much Skims Over all the bombastic Warrior of Light stuff-- her defeating Ultima, her Actual Hand in the dragonsong war, how much influence she had in the doma/ala mhigo revolutions, etc-- but she does tell them about the little things. Of course she tells them about the places she goes to, but she also tells them about the people she meets, as the people they are, not about their lofty titles or awe inspiring achievements.
In Siba's writings, she writes of the scions and the dignitaries and the fellow rebels like friends. She also writes about the cultures she learns about, the food she eats, the new disciplines she gets to learn, or even better, have a hand in shaping. (Koana is. going to be more than flustered and gobsmacked when he learns not ONLY did she have a hand popularizing his job of choice. but also made his damn COAT--but that's a weaver/tataru business partner hc for later. anyways). When they read Aresibas' letters, she writes like that same adventurer she was at the beginning of ARR, because let's be honest
The whole point of her leaving tural was to escape and process her grief. No point in telling them about all the NEW things she has to grieve over, yk?
But yes, she writes to all 3 of them, even though Wuk Lamat and Koana live in the same household. Each letter has a different perspective/things to say, all customized to her readers' interest and reading levels. Oh what they can handleand would actually enjoy reading. This also adds to the Wol Obfuscation; save for Yahima, who puts some of the pieces together, bc Siba's letters to her sister are less tailored, less structured, but oh so personal. And yet, she can't bring herself to believe that that's her sister. That all of the gossip she's heard from merchants and sailors across the salt is true, and... well, yk.
Koanas case is kinda funny, bc he leaves for Sharlyan a half a year after Aresiba leaves for her big adventure, but she had NO IDEA he was going to sharlyan, nor that he Also went under a pseudonym. So when he comes back a year and change b4 the Rite of Sucession gets announced, he comes home to a Stack of Letters on his desk that Lamaty'i promised Siba that she'd give to him.
"You know, you should read them when you get a chance. I think you'd enjoy them-- more than the last ones you remember."
"Really?"
"Definetly. I knew Siba liked to read like you do, but I never knew how good she would get with words. Its crazy, and they really shine when she gets to Mor Dhona and beyond. Trust me."
Unfortunately, catboy has a BUSY SCHEDULE implementing the stuff he learned in sharlyan, but as more things get done, he finds himself with more free time, and really starts reading them only a few months before the rite of sucession gets announced.
And his sister was right. She really was good with words.
For Lamaty'i, like most of their friendship, is pretty straightforward and earnest-- she may not be a crazy reader like either of these cats, but she looks forward from her friends writings nonetheless. To know her friend gets to go on the adventure she always dreamed of, to see the stories she always talks about, fills the third promise with a real rush of joy-- but also, melancholy. Reading Aresibas' letters both helps soothe the ache of Missing her best friend, but also deepen it, somehow. Especially when Siba has to deal with the final days, after not writing to them at ALL during her ordeal with the first, and the only getting a handful of letters in before the telophoroi incidents.
It's funny actually, because Siba was in the middle of finishing her last letter to get sent out when Erenville comes back to sharlyan with a big baby hrothgal in tow. She never gives the three those last letters-- opting to just tell them I. person instead, once everything's over.
