thinking about irving saying   “ if you want to survive, you must learn the rules & realize that sometimes, sacrifices are necessary ”   & how that’s probably a sentiment he’s expressed more than that once.     thinking about how alim lives & breathes these words, how alim’s always had a semblance of respect for irving that he’s granted no others within the circle.     the respect was largely born of recognizing that irving had control over majority of things regarding the mages of the tower, thus it was always only in alim’s best interests to play teacher’s pet.     but, of all the enchanters in the tower, alim did like irving the most, recognizing that underlying pride & survival instinct that drove them both, the subtle lack of respect for authority that held their lives by a thread while making themselves indispensable to said authority so they had reason for lenience.
