#anyway I'm writing a Constantine and Billy story

so I know a lot of people are very against Constantine adopting Billy, but the thing is that I miss Constantine before the edgelords got their hands on him and decided he loves doing terrible things for no explicable reason. like I want the emotionally conflicted Constantine, the one who believes against reason he can save the world if he just tries hard enough. the one who fucks up and fucks up and keeps trying, not because there’s no one else to do it, but because he still thinks he can help if he just helps.

the one who hates being around children not because he thinks they’re annoying or they? incite his bloodlust or something??? but because they’re too vulnerable and it scares him, because he’s reminded over and over again of his failures and his shortcomings, because he doesn’t want another child in danger if there’s any way of stopping it, and the only way he knows to stop it is to remove himself from the equation by any means necessary.

the Constantine who’s desperate for family, who’s unwilling to impose on his sister because he’s not sure she wants him around, who never figured out how to live with his dad. the one who jumps from romance to romance, looking for the one who will finally stick around, looking for the ready-made family that he can fit into like he never did. the one who’s desperate to be a better father than his own, but thinks the only way to do that is to not be a father at all.

Constantine is, at his core, an optimist who can’t catch a break, just like Billy, and what better family for him than a child who’s protected by forces much greater than either of them? a child who literally can’t come to harm at his hands, no matter how badly Constantine fucks it up, because any harm that befalls Billy was well outside either of their control. a friend who’s putting Constantine in danger for once. what better child for the father cursed to break everything he touches than one who’s invulnerable and resistant to curses to boot? what better father for the child who must carry the world on his shoulders than one who doesn’t fucking know better and thinks that’s probably normal he doesn’t know who to ask?

people can’t hurt Billy to get to Constantine, because he has his own magic, and that magic always protects his family.

ah that one, that was one of the ideas I had a few months ago and wanted to write about but I never had time so into the wip folder it went

Billy is being chased down by a demon/magical being after having tasted his blood while he was Billy and not as Captain Marvel. This specific being is able to taste the raw power that Billy has and starts to hunt him in order to eat Billy for his magic power. He is able to track Billy down because he tasted his blood, which leads to a connection that the being is able to use to track him into an endless game of cat and mouse.

In this au, Billy regularly practices magic with Constantine and Zatanna (both of them know his secret identity because his magic signature was not small, even as Billy Batson he had a huge magical aura). So when he starts to see that he isn't able to outrun the being as Billy he goes to both of them for help. Constantine was the only one available at the time so he hides him in the House of Mysteries but knew that the being won't be held back for long.

This led to Constantine interrupting a Justice League meeting and panicking to Zatanna about the current situation while the Justice League just listen to them panicking over John's student/magic companion/magic user in training(?) is being hunted down because he messed with some demon thing. They all think that this companion is an adult who was too careless while Zatanna and Constantine are panicking because they can't have a dark being with the power of The Wizard running around if it manages to get to Billy. They have to keep Billy safe but where?

Push comes to shove, after Constantine's outright refusal and Zatanna’s pleading they somehow had to agree to place barrier after barrier around Wayne manner for Batman to house Billy (which both Constantine and Batman are not happy about. Constantine because he knows of the Bloody Bat's habit of Robins and Batman because he doesn't want a strange man in his home with his children. But he agreed anyways to have this man in his database and to see if he is a danger of some kind)

Bat's was really bitter about housing an unknown man until those feelings were quickly kicked away when he sees Constantine reluctantly dragging behind Zatanna, who was leading a small boy to his home.

The title was literally the summary of the situation where they had to hide Billy because of his magic. I wanted to have the plot to have the creature having multiple interactions to slowly drink more of Billy's blood that spills from scratches or wounds to gain more and more strength before the big plot point but I never got that far so yeah. 

ngl, i just wanted Billy to show off in fornt of batman his powers and i had no other idea how he would do that other then dangling a potental adoption that may or may not happen but eh. magic users just feeling billy’s magic and knowing not to mess with him lets me breath for this thou, thats what a care most about this idea

Also yeah I do write poetry a lot a few years back but I stopped to make ideas and stories instead, still write poems from time to time but my sister is the one who creates them now on a daily. They're pretty good actually.
