I'm currently working on the harm reduction section of my zine "social sobriety" about sobriety, digital addictions, and activism.
And one question I asked myself recently really shifted my perspective:
If I was mandated to spend the same amount of time on my phone/laptop as I do now, what ways could I spend time on them that I would make me feel better/I wouldn't feel like that time was wasted?
It's lead to a couple changes for me.
I use my lock screen and wallpaper as a reminder of my spirituality. I try to stop and read the sutra I have as my wallpaper at least daily to keep it top of mind.
I've really curated the apps that are on my home screen. Currently it's just Insight Timer (meditation), Kindle (reading), AnyList (grocery list and house info), my camera, and a collection of favorites that are mostly geared toward learning (Duolingo, Chess, NYT Puzzles, etc) as well as some utility apps (DayOne, Google Calendar, Windy) and some fun apps (PokemonGo, Tumblr).
I'm now slowly taking off apps that I would not want to spend that amount of time on like Instagram, news apps, and mobile games.
My laptop is a little trickier to curate but I also don't get as lost in it since I have so many add ons to block things I don't want to spend as much time on.
So yeah I think it's a helpful question to ask if you don't like your relationship with tech. Cause at a minimum, you'll wind up using for your phone for things you feel better about.

For the food one I'd recommend looking into some apps. For example apparently: Whisk, AnyList, Mealime, WorkWeekLunch, SuperCook, MyFridgeFood etc some of these create shopping lists for you and plan your meals and some tell you what kind of meals you can make with the food in your fridge etc. I *think* these are better than ChatGPT but if not PLEASE tell me. If it's just the same search engine in a dif font lmk but I think it should be a bit better 😭
Or if you have any other suggestions pls say ty Xx

Google Assistant ends Notes support for third parties, paving the way for other AIs
Google giveth and taketh away as the tech giant will roll back Google Assistant’s Note & List integration for third-party apps on June 20. This means that moving forward it will no longer be possible to create or edit notes or lists via Assistant voice commands outside of first-party software like Google Keep. People first caught wind of this update from affected third parties like AnyList which…

Keeping On Top Of Household Tasks
Household tasks are a crucial part of keeping your home healthy and tidy. These tasks can include cleaning, laundry, cooking, shopping, and many others.
They help maintain a clean and sanitary environment, as well as improve quality of life. They can also help participants live more independently and reduce stress.
Master List
Creating a master list of household tasks will help you divide the workload evenly among the members of your family, even when you have multiple people living in the house. It's also a great way to keep track of unpaid work.
Organize your chores by room, type of task or frequency (daily, weekly, monthly). While this will take some getting used to, it can be very helpful when trying to manage a busy household and get everyone on the same page.
A master list is a must for anyone who wants to keep their home running smoothly and efficiently. It can also be a great way to encourage discipline and order in the family. Whether it's a paper or digital list, using this method can really help to ensure that everything is done on time and in a professional manner. You can use apps like Labor of Love, AnyList and Remember the Milk to track your tasks or use a physical list to keep in a visible spot.
Individual Lists
For a clearheaded household, a chore listing is a must. A master list of the right length will allow for a less stressful, cleaner and more productive home. One of the most important things to consider when making a list is the individual's capabilities and responsibilities in your household. The best household chores are those which everyone can handle, from the most senior member of the pack to the newest addition to your brood. You also have to consider what types of tasks can be delegated and which ones are best left to the pros. A good family chore chart will have a little bit of everything and no one in the house feels left out or neglected.
Schedule
If you are looking for a way to keep on top of the household tasks Brisbane has to offer, one of the first things you need to do is create a schedule. While this can seem daunting, it is an important step to get a clear idea of what needs to be done and how often you will be able to fit it in. You should also make sure to include time for travel and any other activities you may have in the day. This will help you come up with a realistic cleaning schedule, and it will allow you to work out whether the schedule you created is a good fit for your lifestyle.
If you find that the chores in your home are getting too overwhelming, you might want to consider hiring a Brisbane house cleaning service. These professionals are expert at keeping up with a customised cleaning checklist to meet your preferences and top priorities.

Okay so wow this is getting notes and asks and messages (thank you all! I’m glad you are curious and hopeful!) so I’ll share what I’ve learned.
I started with Wunderlist bc it was beautiful and simple and the phone app synched with the web app synched with the desktop app.
Microsoft bought Wunderlist and turned it into Microsoft To Do. They made it ugly and awkward and buggy.
I still use MS To Do. The phone app (mostly) synchs with the tablet app and web app and desktop app oh wait the desktop app is giving me login problems. I use it because it’s familiar. I don’t love it at all. But you don’t need to love it it just needs to work for you. I am in the process of migrating from MS ToDo to a rather complicated project management system. More on that later.
If I had to start over again I might use Notion. Or Zenkit. Both are a bit of overkill. But both worked well enough when I tried them.
ToDoIst was also nice. As was AnyList. As was Remember The Milk. At the time I tried them, their prices (more than free) were too high.
If you wish to avoid MS ToDo, here’s what I recommend your queue manager have:
Mobile app or highly usable fast mobile website. You need it with you as much as your phone is with you.
Ease of entry. This is job one. You need to be able to whip it open, jot down “frim the jib jab” and forget it. If there are login screens, Click To Add An Item Now Enter The Title Now Enter A Description Do You Want To Save YN Are You Sure then forget it. You won’t use it.
Ease of reading the whole list at once. See #2.
If you do any work at at a computer, you’ll want some kind of desktop access. Web app, desktop app. Synching needs to happen automagically and RELIABLY. If you feel you cannot trust your queue manager, you won’t use it.
Blindingly easy manual sorting. Drag and drop please. No “click to move up one.” Just be able to grab an item and move it up, down, between.
Automatic Sorting as an option. Ideally saved as a preference. Sort completed at the bottom, new at the top, or whatever works for you. I personally ADD at the bottom, and when I “star” an item it moves to the top.
Minimal metadata per item. A Note is good. Subtasks are iffy. They can be nice to help you make a checklist and to break down a large thing into smaller things. But they also just add complexity and then you’re managing your queue manager, and it’s not managing your queue. Worse, the subtasks are buried under another layer — you can’t see them at a glance when you look ar your queue.
Nice to have: Multiple lists, with blindingly easy moving of an item from one list to another.
How I use my queue manager:
Multiple lists: I have 3: “Now, Next, Someday.” I use Now for “right now, hopefully today but we’ll see.” I use Next for “at the top of my mind, maybe this week” and Someday for “yeah that’s a dream, I sure hope I get to it someday.” When a timer goes off on Fridays I peek thru all of them and try to make them match reality.
Limits on “now.” I try to keep the Now list less than 8 items and the Next list to less than 20. If that means moving some items to Next because they’re not gonna get done today, or moving some away from Next into Someday then that’s what I do. There’s nothing demotivating like a queue that you “should do” that keeps growing and growing. Thats what the Someday list is for. Keep your “now” small….. if it runs empty you can always pull some in from the “next” list!
Add at bottom, star to top, move around otherwise. I default new items to go to the bottom of the queue. That means I’m more likely to actually work it as a queue. If something comes in that truly needs to jump to the top, I have MS Todo set so that when I press the “star” on the right of the item, it just jumps to the top.
Timers. I have three each day (morning noon evening) to remind me to check the queue. I have one on Fridays to remind me to do some Queue Gardening. That’s when I’ll move things between the different lists, look at how many I got done this week, and try to be honest with myself about what I really think I can get done next week.
Compassionate Review. See the above on my Friday timer. When you look back WITHOUT JUDGMENT at what you got done and adjust your plans for the next day/week accordingly, you actually get better at estimating what’s realistic.
Allow your methods to evolve. When I started doing this I had items on my queue like “med 1,” “med 2,” “med 3,” “shower,” “breakfast,” “email 15m max.” Over time, making and checking off those things has collapsed the morning into a single “start the day” item with a checklist in the item notes. I’m currently experimenting with a whole separate list for new “big” items, which I ignore until Fridays when I then assign them to one of my “now, next, someday” lists. We’ll see how it works out.
Keep. It. Simple. Many softwares will add features they claim will help you be more productive. Due dates. Reminders. Sharing. Approvals (!) Integration with email, twitter, your water faucet. Sub-lists and sub-sub-lists and sub-sub-sub-lists. No. You just want to manage the queue. You just want to be able to quickly look at the queue and have an answer to “what’s next” or “Ive just watched 2 hours of TOTK videos what was I supposed to be working on again?”
Hope this helps some o’ y’all. Peace.
Listen, if you interrupt me with a new task while I’m midway through another, you aren’t allowed to be mad when I switch to the new task immediately. You clearly thought the new task was important enough to interrupt me with it!
I am just a little pikmin! You’re the one with the whistle!!

Meal Planning
Do y’all meal plan? We tend to wing it more during the summer months, but meal planning during the school year tends to be essential. I know I’ve mentioned it on here before, but we use an app called AnyList which allows us to store recipes, meal plan, and create a grocery list. There is an annual fee, but it is less than $10 for the year, and DH and I can sync it to both our phones and Alexa so it works for us super well. Here are the meals we did last week: Monday: Jen’s chicken. I follow Jen Hatmaker and she threw out a very easy roasted chicken recipe on her social media account a couple of weeks ago, that I decided to try. https://www.instagram.com/p/CGIY25ws1Z_/?mc_cid=1040c6a3ca&mc_eid=7abaa6467a I roasted two chickens with carrots and potatoes, and threw together some gravy. Yum--it was a good way to start the work week.
Tuesday: Cheessteak sandwiches in the Instapot with green salad and apple slices. https://www-laurengreutman-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.laurengreutman.com/slow-cooker-cheesesteak-sandwiches/amp/ Everyone loved these!
Wednesday: Potato soup with French bread and green salad. https://tasty.co/recipe/slow-cooker-loaded-potato-soup We double it at our house and again, crowd pleaser.
Thursday: Crispy lemon chicken pasta with green salad. It’s basically chicken breasts or tenders served over a bed of angel hair pasta with a garlic white sauce. You can tell my sides need a bit of work.
Friday: Pizza. We were doing homemade pizzas, with from scratch dough, but they take so much time to make and bake. We are now doing tortilla pizzas. Everyone still gets to make their own, but we just throw the toppings onto a flour tortilla and either put them on the grill or on the stove top or the oven. Really just depends on the mood. Kids like them and it’s a welcome easy meal on a Friday.

Anylist & forest

I am once again asking for your theories and your rant about Dreams character.
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HERE WE GO!!!
1. Dreamon
The Dreamon took over after the Battle of the Lake. We can do either Bill Cipher, or The Host kinda vibes here. Dream’s watching the entire thing happening right in front of his eyes with nothing else to stop him from seeing it.
Or, he surfaces every so often and the Dreamon lets him take over and mess with things for a bit. (Taking away George’s power as King, seeing Spirit for the first time in months and actually doing what Tommy says, hitting Tommy away from the lava for the first time and the Dreamon telling him that it isn’t his time to die, staying in the prison and waiting for Tommy to return and when he does, the Dreamon finally comes back.)
2. Immortality
Dream’s entire world revolved around his family, and when he woke up the first time, he went back to find them again, only to see that they’ve all been killed. The Village that he’d found with Catt and the place where they’d found Robin, gone.
In this same type of thinking, we can also guess that Dream wanted to keep control of the server because he didn’t want what happened to his family to happen again. And we can also say that Dream saw how each of his friends seemed to kinda act like his old family (Bad’s kind-natured, like the mayor; Quackity is... there’s more than meets the eye, just like Helga, Tubbo is just like Robin, all smart-mouthed and sharp edges.)
And there’s Corpse that holds onto Catt’s laugh and how much he reminds him of his partner. Dream doesn’t know how or why he’s stuck with immortality, but hey. At least he’s got Philza, right?
3. Just A Regular Guy
Dream spent most of the time on his server being feared, or respected by everyone. He was painted as a villain in Wilbur’s L’manberg and he played that role so good that everyone fell for Wilbur’s words. We forget how the L’manberg was build because Dream said that they couldn’t have a drug empire.
Dream decided that in he’ll act like the villain and he did. He pushed and bullied his way to the front, pushed away all his friends and when Wilbur, ultimately, became what Dream had, Dream let him do it. Dream saw that this was the only way that they’d both ever get peace.
Maybe with Wilbur gone, Tommy could stop being so aggressive and Dream wouldn’t have to force him to do things. Maybe with Wilbur gone, Dream wouldn’t be seen as a villain with every single step he walks in, or every time he joins his own SMP.
4. He’s lonely, my dude
Dream’s been alone since the start of the server, almost. Once everyone joined, they all went to their other friends and Dream was left alone. The one time he’d said something out of anger and fear, Sapnap and George went to Tommy first. They didn’t go to their best friend, they didn’t ask him why he said that. They (at least Sapnap did) asked Tommy, who had actually already thought of Dream as a villain.
Like, I’m sorry Sapnap. But why didn’t you go to your best friend first and then Tommy after? Maybe I’m thinking weirdly, but hey.
5. Ranboo
Ranboo’s Enderwalk and Dream are friends. If he really was controlling him, why would Enderwalk still be talking to Ranboo, you know? Why wouldn’t EW actually try to keep Ranboo as far away from the truth as possible?
He doesn’t. I think the “He is in control of me” is than Ranboo’s controlling EW. We’ve seen that EW actually seems to enjoy working with Dream (because otherwise why would he?). Idk, it just kinda rubs me the wrong way as everyone says that Dream’s manipulating Ranboo when the voice in Ranboo’s head was confirmed not to be Dream.
6. DreamXD and Drista
DreamXD blessed Dream with the power of immortality or Admin powers. Drista isn’t technically Dream’s sister, she’s DreamXD’s sister, but Dream babysat her when she was younger and became like a big brother to her. (Sparrow gave me this idea :D)
A rant? A rant? I gotchu, babe.
So, Dream’s considered a villain, right? We don’t see his point of view and we can’t really sympathize with his character as much as we can Schlatt’s and Quackity’s. And it’s so much easier to say that he’s a villain and that he has no redeeming qualities than to think about why exactly he’s doing it. I’ve given a bunch of reasons on why exactly Dream’s character isn’t just one-dimensional.
He’s a gray character, through and through. He thinks that the ends justify the means on what he’d done/doing, and Dream wants to go back to the early days of the SMP where everyone was acting like a family. He wants to go back to being the big brother again, and he wants to go back to being able to play around with everyone again.
Dream doesn’t want nations because L’manberg set the divide between Dream’s family. And he doesn’t want another war, another fight with his family again. But he would go through it again, if it meant that afterward they’d be a family again. And Dream’s willing to be the villain, again and again and again just so they can all have someone to fight against together. So they can all act like a family, together.

I like AnyList’s integration for Siri and Reminders because it goes a step beyond what I’ve seen in most other apps. Also, it’s super useful.
