Each tea has a story to tell. We would like to share with you the two legends that surround Oolong Tie Guan Yin from Fujian, Anxi. ⠀ This Oolong was named in honour of the Chinese Goddess of Compassion Guan Yin. According to one legend a poor farmer found an abandoned temple of the Goddess Guan Yin. Since he had no money to restore it, he did what he could to clean it and put a lantern inside in honour of Guan Yin. The farmer visited the temple often and one night the Goddess appeared in his dreams to tell him that he will find a gift in the temple court for all of his efforts. In the morning the farmer discovered a tea bush which he used to create Tie Guan Yin.  ⠀ According to another legend the leaves used to make Tie Guan Yin were collected by monkeys trained by monks so at first no one knew what bushes were used to make the flavourful tea. The monks decided to trace the monkeys to find out where they got the leaves from, and they discovered a wondrous tea bush growing under the mountain. The bush was called the Iron Goddess of Compassion and thus the name of the bush became the name of the tea. ⠀ Tie Guan Yin Oolong should be made only by the most skilled masters as it is easy to ruin the taste of the tea.
