in relation to that last post, i also don’t think the show helps much. an example is kara saying she can just be herself when she’s with mon e| as if she can’t be herself around, idk, her sister?? her friends who know all about her?? i really hate that both fans and show keep invalidating other relationships kara has to prop this one up. i guess it’s the only way they can make it work? if the dynamic is good it will stand on its own, no need to damage the rest of the dynamics, yeah?

I asked about karolsen getting retconned in season 2 in favour of mayo el. mehcad brooks basically said he had the same question and that it was due to how certain people saw the show who are no longer there (which sounds like kreisberg). I also called man hell a misogynistic piece of crap which was maybe ill-advised lmao.

No good very bad. Go to sleep, Guggenheim. Honestly, I think he has good intentions but he and his show are ill-equipped to handle it and it will not go well. I don’t think I can say it any better than TheRoot did in this article.

I’ve never watched SG (I’ve only seen Kara and Mon-El on the Flash Musical), but people said Mon-El lied about being a prince or some shit. Others say he was detrimental to Kara’s character growth. If you saw some of last season’s SG, care to elaborate?

He did lie about who he was, yes. She knew he was a Daxamite, sworn enemies of Krypton whose way of life she deeply disapproved of. But she didn’t know he was meant to be the ruler of said sworn enemies and thus perpetuate the way of life she deeply disapproved of. That’s pretty average for any given romance story, though.

As for him being detrimental to her character growth, he would belittle her often. Both on purpose and accidentally through sexist writing. Their romance led to such things as her thinking that being SG and having him was enough, and therefore she didn’t need to be a reporter, etc. But for me, the main issue was that SG s2 seemed to be told through his point of view instead of hers. She was the pursuer in her romance in S1, but became the pursued in S2. Her story went from evolving with the help of her friends and family to helping him evolve, and so forth.

I apologise in advance for my venting. What realy pissed me off about Supergirl S2 is that it was all well and good until mon-el started becoming a bigger character and taking up all the screen time. I really hoped they were gonna do a "oh I like you but you don't like me so that's cool and I'll just move on" thing, kinda like with Winn in S1 but nope and too many times that happens. The guy gets the girl because he whines and guilt trips her enough.

Yeah that’s just.... ew. I can see why people call him man-hell.

But my friend just pointed out a bunch of good things about s2 and i have to remember that s2 is lovely in a lot of ways. i’ll just sit back comfortably and trust/hope that man-hell and k@r@mel aren’t endgame, and if they are, there’s always fic and fandom.

thought maybe james olsen had risen from the ashes of forgotten characters but nah. we got two scenes with him. a guest character got more screentime than james olsen. i swear to god non speaking characters are getting more screentime. 

mon el gets to be there to make useless tips while everyone else tries to save the day but james olsen, who actually does shit, was in the background of a couple of scenes?? wow doing great writers A+ keep up the terrible work

i never planned to stop watching but then episodes slipped by and i wasn't hearing good things so i just never caught up... i really liked s1 and i was excited for sanvers so it's disappointing

This is EXACTLY how I stopped watching. I haven’t watched in a few weeks and then I realized I didn’t even care that I was missing episodes. I just don’t see the point in catching up? Even Sanvers has issues because, while I like their relationship, the show advertises Maggie as Latina, and Floriana is white. And not a lot of people in the fandom seem to even care? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, since certain fans also don’t seem to care about the show’s racist treatment of James/Karolsen. That’s something else that’s really turned me off to the show. The fandom is seriously awful.

Mon-el needs to go away.

It’s a shame because I feel like I could have liked Mon El, but they fucked it up with how they’ve written him. And even if he does start to show character development and he becomes a better person, it doesn’t change the fact that the writers are shafting SEVERAL different well-rounded characters/relationships (primarily women and POC) in favor of him and K*ramel.

ahhh I mean instinctively I thought lauryssa, but if we’re talking ships that I have feels for right this second based on actual screentime, then westallen for sure. they’re so iconic and have had a lot of really nice lines over the years, even if the shows have screwed them over in other ways (looking at you, crisis on earth x, and you, the person who thought savitar should be barry’s time remnant, and also the genius that thought it was a good idea to put barry and linda together, and -) I just absolutely adore their dynamic and how they’ve grown over the seasons. not to mention barry’s undying and unconditional love for his wife makes my heart ache because my boy has set super high relationship standards now lol (like I don’t think I will ever be proposed to but if I was I would only accept it if there were flowers and candles and singing). also zamaya because wow my girls invented being soulmates and they deserve to grow old together tbh.

probably kar@mel because how was mayo el even an option for kara when james is right there??? I have a lot of anger towards the ship because a) they completely retconned kara pining over james like a lost puppy for a whole season, b) man hell was lying to kara and misleading her from the very beginning, including when he was trying to get into her pants, c) man hell is a misogynist slave owning piece of [redacted because it’s ramadan and I have a swear jar] so I do not understand for a second how kara was attracted to him besides the actor having a decent face, d) I’m catching up with sg now and seeing how kara romanticised their relationship and seemed to completely disregard all the hurt he caused her is honestly so cringe, e) “you’re my kryptonite, kara”, f) kara literally threatening to throw him into space or something along those lines if he ever lies to her again is totes #relationshipgoals right and finally g) they made out to every little thing she does is magic when that song is a fave of mine and shouldn’t be tainted with the stink of karahell thank you for coming to my ted talk

see above. but also - oh lord, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense but I hate a lot of white f/f ships that erase moc or have a flimsy or questionable basis, as well as those that prominently feature cultural appropriation. I’m talking $upercorp, aval@nce, clex@ (I’m not even in that fandom haha but I hate it because of that girl’s bindi and brownface) - the last two people use a LOT to try and suggest that the respective shows are ~progressive or at least were because they’re canon wlw, but that honestly could not be further from the truth. and I don’t just mean because of the bury your gays trope but because there is zero cultural sensitivity and the parts of those fandoms I have seen are mostly pretty ugly in how they treat poc.

What are your thoughts on SG s2 writing? More so the Kara and James s1 buildup to flushing in the first 15 minutes of s2 then have her say she wants to be single then in same episode get with the new white boy. I want to say it's CW writing but s1 wasn't like this and we had the same writers and producers. Also do you think Monel/Kara relationship is abusive? How can the writers fix s3. I'm not planning to watch cause s2 was just that bad.

I don’t think it was the CW, tbh. I think AJK or whoever was being honest when they said they just didn’t feel James as Kara’s driving force. If they did, they would have fought CW for him or at least kept him in the story that best suited him after ending the ship. Instead, they had a sloppy breakup and moved her on to a white guy they could see as the stalwart not-so hero. So clearly, I think the writing for that was haphazard and insulting.

My issue with the ship is less about the unhealthy aspects, though I do believe that Mon-El either purposely or accidentally tears Kara down and makes her doubt herself. It’s more that it turned Kara from an active participant in her own love story (where she was the one who fell for James and fought for him despite the obstacle of him and Lucy’s relationship, etc.) to becoming the object of someone’s affection.

Ajk said that the Danver sisters will be the focus of all 4 hours of the crossover. Wouldn’t wa be the focus if it’s their wedding? Now I’m starting to think we won’t get the crossover wedding…

The way the entire spoiler was phrased made me think that was more incidental. That “what’s going on this season is Kara and Alex doing things in tandem, and the crossover won’t be any different.”

I may be wrong, of course, but I think it’s just saying that Kara’s main relationship/tie in the crossover will be her sister and thus Alex will finally be crossing over. 

But if I’m wrong, then a lot of WA fans will be happy that the wedding isn’t the crossover. I just hope Iris… gets to crossover, lmao. Cuz if she doesn’t, I will riot.
