Outfits I designed for the Turn back time Audrey AU- Rough sketches

Here are some outfits I designed/re designed for Audrey in the turn back time AU. It was hard specifically because when I design clothes, it’s usually something that I would wear myself or I would sell to other people. (For reference I turned 19 on the 22nd ugh and I usually like making clothes for people who like a more mature look.) So it was hard for me to design outfits that I 16 year old girl would wear simply because I’ve always liked a more mature look. But here’s how it went:

(Ignore the skin tones on all of them  basically I need to get more skin colored markers)

The first outfit is when she wakes up after traveling around the 10 universes, so her pajamas. I liked her nightgown design in D3 but it was a more mature look to me and not something a full time high school student would wear. If she would wear a nightgown it would be way more loose-fitting. So instead I did a hot pink pajama set with lace trimming and furry slippers. The fabric would be satin and very loose-fitting for a comfy sleep. This is the first outfit we see her in so it’s supposed to be clear that this was something she picked out before she came back.

One thing that goes on the with outfits after the pajamas is Audrey is wearing a lot more blue simply because of the events through D1-D3 she feels betrayed by her Mother and grandmother and their color and the color they passed down to her is pink so she goes with her (Assumed) father’s color blue. (Remember she’s only 18 at the end of D3 so she’s going to go through a lot of emotions all over again) She hasn’t completely switched over to blue simply because she doesn’t want to make too many sudden changes that would cause the adults in her life to try and take over.

Outfit #2 is when she meets up with Ben for a picnic date before the VKs arrive (its sort of like the scene from the Isle of the Lost book) She and Ben actually have a fight after she lets him know that she feels wronged by him bringing Maleficent daughter without even asking how she was feeling about the whole thing. She doesn’t argue or raise her voice because she can’t afford to break up with Ben before stopping him from eating the cookie. But it’s clear Audrey is having a hard time dealing with the emotions of what originally happened. This outfit is also something she would originally wear because she snatched it right out of her closet when she rushed to meet Ben. It’s tight fitting around until it flares out at the waist and bell sleeves. Very nice girly pink with blue birds all over it.

Outfit #3 is the vk pickup outfit redesigned I mostly just switched the colors around redesigned the silhouette of the skirt. This is after she makes some passive aggressive comments towards her mother after she praises her for being such a good daughter to which Audrey replies “A good daughter or a good place holder for becoming queen of Auradon” leaving her mother speechless at the sudden aggressiveness. To which Audrey then decides to go for a blue dress instead of the original pre picked out pink one throwing on a pink cardigan instead of a blue one. 

Outfit #4 is in a very important scene even though I don’t like what I did with the colors. This where she changes the entire movie when she stops Ben from eating the cookie and actually attempts to drain some of Mal’s magic and quickly removes Ben from the situation. This outfit is really important because it shows Audrey is tired of being an obedient princess because of how it worked out for the first. She followed all the rules (get it) and got shitty results so she doesn’t care about certain things anymore. She still loves pretty pink sparkly things it’s just a lot of her outfits were picked out for her so she wears this one to rebel. She knows her grandmother would be outraged if she saw her wearing such a short skirt, minimal pink, and a fishnet sock. 

Outfit $5 I HATE the birds on her dress were supposed to be just a shade darker but I was coloring these at 2AM so forgive me. It’s the dress she wears at the end of D1 redesigned still a sequined top but the skirt is more loose with a slit going up it and she has more blue to represent her father. (The dress turns a different color after she fights maleficent.) 

The necklace around her neck is the same one she wore in D3 but it’s important because somewhere down the line after she stops Ben from eating the cookie she gives him the necklace to wear because she placed an anti magic spell on it. She gives it to him casually stating that he’s the king and shouldn’t walk around unprotected since he’s getting more involved with the Isle. 

Ideally she would wear more outfits but these were just the first 5 rough sketches I made randomly.

Canon vs Fanon - Descendants

Feel free to add as you please!

Mal(Who I backed up with examples because her character is always examined differently): Constantly feels under pressure to act a certain way (Stealing wand, not crying, being the girlfriend people expect Ben to have, being a good queen, etc) Appreciates Evie's advice but doesn't rely on her to do things for her. (No you stay in Auradon and I'll go.) Makes reparations where reparations are due. (Specifically D1 Jane and Audrey, D2 Uma, D3 Audrey,) Is self-sufficient

Flippant and mostly uncaring about how her actions affect others. "I spend all my time with Evie and I know I'm marrying you but just know you're dirt compared to her; she's my one true love." "Oh, I did something bad? Apologies aren't my thing - BYE!" Has to have Evie pick out her entire outfit in order to even be able to function in the mornings.

Evie: Very down-to-earth, focused, and thoughtful. Balances a small business, friendships, and work on the Isle. In a relationship with Doug.

"I was left alone for five minutes and now I'm ditsy and confused. Basically, I'm a little kid." 90% of her time is devoted to waiting on the VK's hand and foot. "I'm actually lesbian but my mother always told me I needed a prince. Mal is in my bed every other night."

Jay: Doesn't usually fight with any of the other's ideas and stays quiet. Has remarkable self-control and learns quick. Is a massive flirt.

Is the one to shout back at Mal Cannot stop stealing anything Has been in a committed relationship with Carlos since age 12.

Carlos: Is able to stand in his mother's presence easily and is only faintly annoyed by her antics. Likes computers and is very good with technology. Gets nervous around crushes but is still able to speak and chat.

Was severely abused and cowers at the mention of Cruella All of his hobbies revolve around Dude the Dog. Runs away from all people and needs to be guarded.

Ben: Doesn't tell people how to act and always asks how he can help. Enjoys Tourney, swimming, surprises and friends. Stands up against wrong things and intends to bring change to Auradon

Leads the villain kids by the hand and then vanishes into the background. His only personality trait is "Mal's first love interest" A generally weak-willed character.

PS I’m a teeny bit anti-malvie and it shows.

small review, last time me n @darkprinceofdarkness​ said the outfits of D3 fit the actors and not the characters and Mal dresses like a 40 year old white woman.

MOVING ON

we gon do this in order this time, so to start!

gttb....i gotta be honest, i do like this, its blue, its loose, it has a fun skirt, it has accents of red instead of it taking over her main color, tiny crown, fab velvet heels. pretty solid Evie outfit. i think the only complaint i have with it is her hair? like, where's ur braids? where's the Evie braid? i loved that shit, she has her curls but they are only at the bottom and i miss when they started like a half inch off her scalp, give Evie back her curls 2k21 9/10 i want her curls and braids. wouldn't wear but its cute

VK pick up day....okay i also like this one, it still feels Evie to me, fun skirt, fun jacket, leggings, cute boots, just change out her necklace for a smaller charm one (possibly the one from D1 that she wore all the time), and curl her hair, maybe braid her bangs or twist them back to pin them to the back of her head. 9/10 change hair and necklace but def would wear.

at some point between designing these last two outfits, someone fucked up and decided Evie was a 40 year old relator who watches gaudy fashion shows.

i hate it i hate it i hate it i hate it i hate it i hate it, what the fuck is she wearing, i hate it so much, Evie you are 19 not 40. i have NEVER liked this outfit on her, it hasn't grown on me one bit, nada, no hate it, burn it. the top could be cute but the paired it with the worst pants ever, she looks like a fucking pta mom who needs to go pic up her kids from soccer practice, what the fuck who did this to you bby. the only thing good about this look is the shoes, and her hair, her hair is pinned back a bit and curled at the end, its the only good thing, the gloves are okay but again, the whole outfit ruins the good shit. pair the shirt and the other good stuff with either skinny jeans or a loose skirt and then maybe- MAYBE it'll look good. why the fuck was she even wearing this?? it looks like they maybe planned for Evie to join in on the meeting then took her out last minute and decided Sofia should still wear the outfit for the next scene?? this is the same day as Janes party right?? just put her in the blue romper?! it would make sense?!  0/10 get it the fuck away from me and burn it.

then someone turned their brain back on and gave Evie this cute ruffle romper for Sofia to wear, its simple, but i like that it is, the core four party outfits are simple anyway and its fine since they are going to a forest and they do need free moving outfits to get around easier, so its nice, its flowy, its got ruffles in cute places, and this does feel like something a 19 year old would wear, it also feels like something a 40 year old would wear but that's fine, it doesn't feel like Evie is dressing 20 years older than her. cute outfit, cute boots, red gloves and basic Evie accessories. 8/10 wouldn't wear but it suits Evie 

and now....gug

the motor cross gear...after the success of the romper, they once again took a dive and just...yuck. Blue is Evies main color, RED IS HER ACCENT COLOR do NOT overwhelm her outfit with red!!!!! the color blocks are in odd places and ruin the pacing of the outfit. i hate the jacket, i hate the skirt, i hate the pants, the boots are like, the ONLY good thing on this damn outfit. that and her tiara. thats it, thats all i like about it. whenever this damn thing comes on screen i have a physical reaction, i hate it, i hate it so much. it has not grown on me on bit. i would probably like it more with they switched the red with Blue and then it would feel more Evie to me, because RED IS HARRYS COLOR (red is also an accent color for colors, his main is black&white) oh and funfact! i was looking at the motorpunk concept art and inspiration stuff, Kara kept using inspo from looks that were fitting for people over 30 n shit, that's why that feels so old, because there was no younger styled motosport stuff. so the Motorpunk gear isnt even inspired by a younger gens style! its all 30+ inspo of older people wearing it and its just AH!!! like COME ON!! its not that hard to take inspo from younger gen style! hell! they could have gone with biker punk! it would have fit the C4 more! biker punk is leather, spikes, denim, loose-tight pants, boots, fingerless gloves BASICALLY THE VKS MAIN STYLE LIKE IT WAS RIGHT THERE!!!!  3/10 it had potential but they lost it and ruined it.

Break this down/engagement party...i don't know why, but i don't like it, i think its the TWO GIANT FUCKING BOWS. they look so out of place and distract from the entire outfit, make the bottom one smaller and slimmer with a looser fabric, and just remove the top one completely and BOOM its actually a good dress. shoes are fine, i hate her gloves, her necklace is lowkey ugly, and curl her fucking hair properly (aka from her scalp and not the last couple inches of her hair). 5/10 it had potential and they added bows...bows are always a downfall if you don't know what ur fucking doing with them. 

there we go Evie’s outfits rant.

again, i will say Kara Saun is a good designer, but she wasn't the best fit for a series about TEENAGERS.

the D3 outfits and designs look like they belong on 30 year olds, not 17-20 year olds

this was said by @darkprinceofdarkness​ on the descendants discord but i wanted to bring it up here, rn I'm redesigning almost ALL the descendants d3 outfits, including making some brand new ones for new characters for my rewrite, and in looking at the D3 outfits, i remembered what darkpinceofdarkness had said last month (aka ash so imma just call em ash now so i dont have keep typing their tumblr name)  they had said that the designs seemed to fit better on the actors, and not the characters, as in that the designs seemed they were made for 25-30 year olds (the age that most of the actors were at at the time) instead of 17-20 year olds that the characters were aged at.

 i mean look at Mals outfit for the talk with beast, belle, and FG, it doesn't seem right for her,

 its too simple, to plain, there's nothing going on, it looks like she's a wine mom, she looks like she's dressing up as an old ass boring adult when she's just gotten out of her teens 3/10 burn it

and again when hades comes to wake up Audrey 

boring colors, boring texture, boring hair, boring shoes, again, nothing interesting going on, i feel like im looking at a (again) 30 year old wine mom instead of a young adult that just graduated from HIGH SCHOOL 3/10 would gag

now there's her engagement/getting the vks dress

while its one of her best outfits of D3 it still feels....old to me, like, i feel like yes this is still young adult, but not 19 years old young adult, more 23-26 young adult. i think it might be the neckline and form of the dress, the coloring and the textures are nice and i think they do fit well with Mal, but overall, it still feels like something someone over 22 would wear, not a 19 year old. i understand Mal is stepping into the role of a lady/queen, but shes 19, not 30, give her fun clothes! give her ripped denim, give her spray painted leather, give her pins, let her chop her hair short, leggings under shorts! loose tops, t-shirts, spiked chokers, jeans, sneakers, hoodies, just ANYTHING other than loose-form fitting 40 year old woman who doesn't know how to style herself and listens a YouTube video about how to color match your clothes-clothes!!! anyway 6/10 its okay but would def NOT wear

before we continue i would like to say Kara Saun is a great designer...but she wasn't the greatest fit to design for a series about teenagers. anyway onto good to be bad!

now good to be bad, is probably my favorite Mal design out of all of D3, it looks like Mal took a paint brush and her spray paint and just went ham on it, which is perfect, because that suits her (original) character! its all over the place, yet it seems planned, its a mess of colors yet it seems as if they were meticulously  picked! Mals original character was someone while they seemed they had no plan, they had millions of them floating through their head, or they seemed to have a plan but they were just mentally going “fuck it what happens happens” and that unfortunately seemed to be drained from her as the movies went on and someone fucked up by trying to make her a perfect character, which made her completely horrible, in the first movie, her not thinking things all the way through (Ben and the love spell and how that would end) was more endearing than completely annoying and frustrating, D1 Mal, when she didn't think things through, ended up floundering over herself but trying to come up with a quick solution (when the quilt trip FG with Jane plan failed, Mal groaned for a moment then immediately went to her spell book for another plan) yet D2 and D3 Mal, if her plan didn't go her way she got upset, and blamed her fault on other people, even if why her plan failed was completely her fault (the barrier closing thing; she tried to push the blame onto just wanting to protect her cushy life, where if she was written correctly, she would have taken blame and acknowledged that she had doomed the rest of the isle kids and actually apologized for lying to Uma and her friends, instead of saying “she had no choice” (yes you did bish you just didn't want to do any actual work) anyway enough of analyzing Mals horribly written character back to the outfits, so ill sum up Mal’s gttb look, its funky, its fun, its colorful, her jacket is not tight fitting and has a fun tail, popped open collar, its just overall a cute outfit. 8/10 wouldn't wear but it looks like something a punk alt young adult would wear.

so her outfit for Janes party....okay yea i like this one

its splotchy, its denim, its loose yet form fitting, hell i would wear it (minus the shoes)  it feels like something a 15-19 year old feminine presenting person would wear to a party! which guess what! she is! shes going to a party! the only thing i would change is to possibly give her shorts or calf ending cargo pants, and change her open toed heels to wedged sneakers. other wise 8.5/10 would wear.

i...dont like it, its super tight fitting, her butt in every single shot that usually just has Mal in it with her facing towards the camera is reaaaally obvious and its just...iahsiodhasid bad, is bad. her boots are clunky as fuck and hardly practical at all and for what she was planning to do with them makes no sense and girl get the fuck over your height complex.(clunky boots are cute but...girl...come on...) and it seems like its suited for a person in their mid twentys instead of a 19 year old. its hard for me to say exactly why i dont like it (also i will say, if you like tight fitting clothes, fucking go for it, you rock that shit, it just...doesn't look good on Mal and its a fukin kids series, and  the camera loved Mals butt and i was always like “yo camera man, pan up a bit why dont cha”)but i feel like if Mals pants weren't all a shiny tight fabric, i might like them a bit more but its all one thing and all one shade with different tones. like, comon, pockets guys, they are a thing, and put them on her butt so it derives from it when its in the shots.

i hate hate hate the hades color shift, because at least with the green/purple it had two shades and broke up the outfit but now...

its just blue and purple...there's like...nothing breaking up the tones or pieces of the outfit and now its all just tones of blue and purple that you cant tell apart and you have no clue where it begins or it ends and its ugly. 5/10 its better than her “fancy” talk shit but still burn it and keep it away from me. 

and now the dreaded outfit...her engagement party dress.

*shivers* its just...so bad, everything is just so tight and stiff that it just doesn't...feel like a real dress, it looks like it belongs on a doll, i don't even think a 30 year old wine mom would wear this its just so bad. Even the long version of the open skirt (which is impossible to find on google) doesn't flow like it should, its stiff and keeps its form the entire time, and when you want a long flowing engagement party dress made for a princess? that's not a good thing, whatever fabric they used was not a good one and they should never use it again...the texture on the dress is awful too. i think the only thing i like about this abomination is her tiara...that's it, that's all i like, and only because its so much better then that foam garbage that was her dragon dress crown. 0/10 fucking erase it from existence.

i was going to do Evies outfits but i feel like i took too much space up on Mal...i have alot to say on this abomination of an Evie “outfit”

last time we reviewed Evies outfits and how all of them were shit except three.

now onto Jay

best i could get of his gttb look. so! imma be honest iii don't like Jays style...yeah i said it, his D2 isle look was probably my fav look of his because he had sleeves and wore them for the first half of the isle stuff and i immediately went “nah” when it went sleeveless. and i will say, so yall dont think im biased, i dont like Harrys d2 jacket when its sleeveless either....yeah i said it! i love looking at those arms but i just don't like sleeveless stuff over no sleeves, i like vest style things when they are over short sleeves or long sleeves, so I'm not into Jays vest over a tank top look. saying this, i don't mind Jays gttb look, it feels like D1&D2 jay combined (d1 with the jacket and D2 with the pants)

closer look at the vest, they darkened his red back to more of a maroon that they had in D1 (D2 had a brighter red) oh and he has the snake scale texture on the red parts of his vest...cool. 

i kinda dont have alot to say about his gttb? like...i dont have any good or bad feelings about it? his sleeveless style has always been kinda...meh to me...so 8.5/10 its okay? not my style and i don't have much to say?

Again, i don't have a lot of feelings about Jays outfits, but i like this one, yes because of the sleeves but shush. he kind of looks like he’s going on a jog? but this is kinda something i would wear, hell i have a jacket that looks simular to that, and something like that is legit something i would wear to an event that has more casual looks than fancy. as i said, not alot of feelings about Jays looks same as gttb 8.5/10 not alot of feelings but its nice and something i would wear.

i-...jay are you going to a birthday party or the gym? because i mean...come on... my least favorite of his “casual” clothes because it looks like he’s going to work out not go to his friends birthday. its a nice look but not good for the occasion 7/10 nice try but it failed. +1 because they reused shoes from D2 and not making a whole new shoe for Jay means less waste. so 8/10 replace the pants with jeans and its a fit.

the motorsport gear...*sigh* i hate it, its clunky, colors are ugly, the orange-yellow looks like puke, the sleeved version just makes his arms look oddly big and not in a good way. boots are ugly af and chunky, and not in the good way, Mals boots are chunky but are cute when not in a situation where you might need to move fast. his are just ugly in shape and color, puke dark brown Xp only good part is his hair 2/10 the hair saves it from total damnation but still keep it away from me.

and finally

break this down.

so someone turned their brain back on and gave Jay this fucking masterpiece of an outfit. i love it more than his D2 look. the jacket, the shirt, the pants, the boots, THE HAIR!!!! all a gorgeous shade of maroon and dark blue, with accents of gold and black! (as his color pallet should be but i digress) the jacket its clean and sharp and i love the diamond pattern on it, the shirt is modern and sleek and i love the clashing neckline. belt is hard to see but i think its a curling cobra, which is nice. boots are clean and look like docs and docs are hard to not screw up with an outfit. 10/10 fab as fuck i love it. (the boys seemed to have gotten the better end of the outfit spectrum)

there's Jay now onto Carlos, i’ll do Sea three if requested and I've already been asked to review dizzy by @darkprinceofdarkness​ on discord lol

so planning for D3 rewrite, and consindering my plans for it, im going to have to replace certain characters in it soooo heres Hadie’s design for d3 rewrite

yes i notice the name is spelled wrong on the art pic, pls dont point it out.

Hadie is the (originally) canon son of Hades before Mal was written in as his kid (bleh) and was (wrongfully) retconned in canon. he’s in the second book i believe and was apart of the anti hero club. in my rewrite world he’s about two years older than Mal and about a year or two younger than the isle. i wont reveal what his exact place is in the “new” plot for D3 rewrite but it wont be a background character.

that is all. ill color him in later and make a couple other outfits for him.

also FLOOPY FLOOF MOHAWK is what they should have done for d3 Hades but THE DESINERS ARE COWARDS. and yes Hadie does have heavy eye shadow....also i realized his boots look too big.....shit
