Vinicius abuse: Spain, Brazil to play anti-racism friendly in Madrid
Tumblr media
The Spanish and Brazilian football federations presented their plan on Tuesday for a friendly match at the Santiago Bernabeu in March 2024 to combat racism, after global outrage at the abuse of Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior. The Brazil winger, 22, suffered racial abuse by Valencia supporters in May, provoking worldwide outrage after he squared off with fans in one stand. Spanish federation president Luis Rubiales and his Brazilian counterpart Ednaldo Rodrigues revealed their plans for the game at Madrid’s stadium, alongside Spain internationals Ansu Fati and Rodrigo Moreno. “I want to announce that the match against racism between Spain and Brazil will be at the Santiago Bernabeu,” Rubiales told a news conference. Please note that odds are subject to change. Always check odds are correct before placing bets with any bookmaker. 18+ | Play responsibly.“It’s the ideal stage for an encounter between two of the best teams in the world.” Rubiales also said the match taking place in March depended on Spain qualifying directly for Euro 2024, as those dates would be potentially needed for play-offs if not. “(The game is) a way of saying ‘enough’,” said Rodrigues. “It protects joy in our football, (and shows) this intolerance and attitude are unacceptable.” Leeds forward Rodrigo, born in Brazil, was happy about the arrangements for the match, given the slogan “The Same Skin”. “I think it’s a great initiative on the part of both federations,” said Rodrigo. “It’s very important to use the power of football to denounce and fight against discrimination.” Earlier in June legislators in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro approved a law on Tuesday to curtail football matches affected by racist abuse, after a wave of disgust over the treatment of Vinicius, a native of the state. Supporters found guilty of abusing Vinicius were issued stadium bans and fines by Spanish authorities last week. Read the full article

Thoughts on today’s matches:
Hungary–France
I was rooting for Hungary because I hate France while feeling conflicted because HMMMMM the Hungarian government? BAD. But then France scored a goal and askldfjsladjflsad THE CHAOS that this tie has created. I’m here for it.
I learned that Péter Gulásci, the Hungarian goalkeeper, took a stand against his government’s anti-LGBTQ+ policies and ONE Hungarian man has rights. Ngl, I’m emotional seeing this because it’s incredibly important for someone who’s representing Hungary on an international level in a competition that millions are watching all over the world to be this vocal about his support for the LGBTQ+ community.
I internally screamed with laughter over this photo of Griezmann which came out one day after I lamented the dearth of tragic fashion choices in modern football after seeing this photo of the 2002 Portugal NT all decked out in what looks, to me, like outfits from Limited Too.
Portugal–Germany
ANOTHER CHAOTIC GAME
Who gives a damn about Ronaldo’s records (do not mention how close he is to breaking Klose's record for most goals at the Euros and World Cup. It's disgusting and unacceptable. I HAVE NOTHING BUT LOVE FOR MIRO AND NOTHING BUT HATE FOR RONALDO)? Literally the only record I care about is the fact that this is the first time in Euro history that a NT has had two own goals in a match. Unbelievably funny. Congrats to Ronaldo for being the captain of the first team to achieve something so embarrassing!
I would have loved a third own goal because imagine an own goal hat trick? Unfortunately, we didn't get that, but fortunately, we saw Portugal losing, something I live for.
The only goal I wanted was a Diogo goal and we got that so we're set.
Oh, and the schadenfreude I feel over the German goals considering one of the goals came from a player who wanted to swap jerseys with Ronaldo and Ronaldo was a dick and told him no
Spain–Poland
MOREEEE CHAOS! Fun to watch! HOWEVER. HOWEVER
I regret to inform everyone that this match made me realize, more than any match before, that I'm still as invested in Spain as ever which is unfortunate. I mean, I still knew I couldn't get away from my feelings for the Spain NT (it's been a decade and a half of this. I'm stuck), but I was resigned to being BenAfflecksmoking.jpg.
I was not BenAfflecksmoking.jpg during this match. Or I was, but then I alternated between being that and being an anxious, furious mess. I HAVE NOT FELT THIS NERVOUS ABOUT AN INTERNATIONAL MATCH IN A LONG TIME LFAJSDLFJSA.
LOVE HOW I WAS ALL "NOT REALLY FEELING EMOTIONALLY ATTACHED TO ANY NT IN THE EUROS AT THIS POINT" A FEW DAYS AGO. I'm a CLOWN
Anyway, I'm so frustrated with Spain's inability to finish. This squad is made up of a bunch of players who are good but not excellent. Spain does have several excellent individuals, but long gone are the days when they had a whole team of all-star players.
Jfc I knew that Gerard Moreno would miss that penalty
Good for Morata that he got a goal, finally, but he went back to making everyone frustrated when he couldn't get the ball into the net
LOOK, I'M BIASED, BUT IF WE HAD ANSU FATI UNINJURED AND OUT THERE IN THIS TEAM, WE WOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM
I'm ignoring the fact that there are other problems because Spain's lack of strikers and players who can finish askfjajls, but really, poor defending, too much time spent on the ball instead of passing (I lost years of my life stressing out over this), etc.
Someone said that this team is too young for this tournament but may be ready for the next one and I'm inclined to agree. I think Lucho will be able to figure things out or I hope he will, but their lack of experience and ability to stay level-headed and confident when they're pressed (it wasn't horrible, but it was obvious that one more tiny push would have sent them spiraling and despite being pretty stable and not being that rattled, they didn't have that self-assurance that comes with age and experience) was apparent. They need time to grow
Lmao I don't want to think about the final day for this group, but Lewandowski earned that goal, it's amazing seeing him in action and still being this good at his age, and well, for neutrals, this is probably really fun. And you know what? I can acknowledge that while also suffering because of Spain.

Saying that fati is better than ferran is a wild statement. The poor kid's riddled with injury after injury after injury. You're mocking a guy whilst he's down
what is this mid off that’s happening in my inbox rn
