I’m going to shift away from Round 6 momentarily, because this moment in round 3 is incredibly important, and you really can’t talk about Ivan and Till’s relationship without talking about Black Sorrow.

The second time (again, chronologically) Ivan and Till meet each others gaze is in Round 3, when they’re running away together. Up until this point, Till has been shown only from Ivan’s perspective, only looking past him instead of at him.

But here, they look up at each other. Because even if Till doesn’t realize it, they’re in the same boat. They’re both two scared teenagers who can’t imagine a life without the person they love, their reason for living, their god.

And so they stay.

These last two moments of connection between the two are the exception, not the rule though. This is no Mizi and Sua.

When Ivan teases Till in this scene, he just glances away. Because even if they care about each other, they don’t understand each other fully. Ivan reaches out, but Till only has eyes for Mizi, so the connection is severed.

These two are just never on the same page with each other. Even if Till considers him a friend, he doesn’t truly see how Ivan feels about him. Even if Ivan loves Till, he can’t see that Till values his friendship even if he doesn’t love him romantically.

Even when Ivan is cradling Till in his arms, his eyes are shut. He’s just completely oblivious to Ivan’s feelings.

That is, until Ivan kisses him. And they stare each other dead in the eye, for the last time.

And Ivan just weakly smiles. Because Till finally knows. Even if he hates him forever, he can’t avert his gaze from this. Till finally sees him.

Let's talk about eggs and stuff (General Gotcha Spoilers)

So EP 38 of Gotcha was awesome, and I couldnt help but notice the similarities this arc had with the Spanner flashbacks back in EP 20-21, and a little bit with EP 6. Why episode 6? Well, Hotaro cooked the same dish for Tamagon that Spanner did for everyone at Kitchen Ichinose.

In both episodes the omurice sort of served as a way to "show you how the world works" for Hotaro is that he would have to face obstacles and for Tamagon is that it can also be good place despite them. Which is really shows how much Hotaro was grown too in a way!

Now onto how EP 37-38 and EP 20-21 tie in with eachother

Defeating the Hopper1 malgam had Hotaro witnessing the death of his best bug friend, making him lose himself to the darkness. This plays almost the same as Spanner's flashback, Gigist and Geryon play the same role here, the same way Kyoka and Tamagon do as "protectors", both had been looking over Spanner and Hotaro respectively and so created (like Tamagon described) a "safe space" for them, of course in Kyoka's is a more metaphorical one, basically creating The Egg by erasing Spanner's memories so he wouldn´t get hurt and be found by Geryon, meanwhile Tamagon makes a physical place that Hotaro can stay in shut in from the world.

But of course you can't keep something like this up for long, I've noticed how Hotaro's "regularness" makes him less prone to fall in this type of comfort, like in the winter movie after he remembered he had an argument with his mom he opted out the world Wizard X had made for him just like he pushed Tamagon to break the eggshell and literally be born, he's extremely grounded and sure of himself! That's one the main things that move him as a character.

With Spanner it's a bit more complicated, I think the 20-21 arc was just the set up for the culmination of his character arc, this bit in the production blog and this piece of dialogue from EP 36 caught my attention

Coming to terms with your past isnt the same as fully understanding yourself, somewhere in this last batch we are gonna get an episode where Spanner finishes um breaking the eggshell of his world and how the relationship chart keeps saying: Awaken to a new self. Most likely finally acknowledging Lachesis as his equal and of course, getting a new form. So yeah! That's it, not much of a theory? if you have any thoughts I'd love to read them and whatnot.

“I’m excited!” Genya said. Sanemi couldn’t help but smile at the massive grin that swallowed the kid’s face. “I’m gonna work hard today, just like you!”

The previous night he’d tried to argue with Genya and had gotten nowhere. 

“Genya, you don’t need to do that. You’re still too young.” He’d put his hand on Genya’s head of coffee-brown hair. 

“But Mom says you were five when you started working, too!”

Sanemi tried a different strategy. “Well I’m nine now and a lot faster than you. You’re just going to slow me down.” 

“Nuh-uh! I’m gonna be as fast as you are, promise!’

Sanemi pulled on his shoes and readjusted the tape on the soles that kept most of the mud and water out. Genya followed suit, though since his shoes were Sanemi’s old ones, the tape process took a little extra time. Genya was too young to understand that him starting work at the same age Sanemi had was not something to be excited about. That working as hard as he did was not a victory. 

Hiroshi slept soundly in the indent where Sanemi had been sleeping; Sumi and Teiko held each other in their shared bedroll a few feet away. Though Shuya was still too young to be sleeping in the kids room, Sanemi had heard his mother’s lullaby hushing him several times throughout the night. Having to work may not be a victory, but taking care of them was as good a victory as any in Sanemi’s eyes. 

“Alright, alright. Come on, let’s get out of here before Dad comes back.”

Magneto had a really great character arc in the 80s which just got completely chucked in the bin because the new editor taking over the title thought that he should always be a one-note maniacal villain, and I'm disappointed to see X-Men '97 doing the same because the ex-showrunner wanted to recreate his favourite issue.

Alright so, I've got quite a bit written for the next chapter of CotA, a little less than 9k words. Only thing is... that's only about half of what I had planned for ch. 7. 😭

So, considering how long it took me to write this much, and I have a very nice potential cutoff point, what would y'all prefer? Would you like me to make this a two-parter, with a shorter first half posted soon (at the end of this poll if so chosen), and the second half coming later? OR would you prefer to wait longer and get one whole chonker of a chapter with all of the action wrapped up neatly in a single parter?
