the cyclical UFO panic that has become an integral part of our culture is a bit annoying but honestly what I find more annoying is the amount of people who have no genuine curiosity and have never looked into UFOs, calling everyone who is interested in them stupid

there's literally no reason to behave that way towards UFO researchers other than "it sounds farfetched so I'm gonna make fun". none of the people who make these throwaway comments can tell you anything about "UFO lore" or WHY it's convincing to some people. they just see what they think is an easy target and want to be a cunt because being a cunt is basically online currency now

also the added element of ableism because if you genuinely think someone is just too cognitively impaired to judge a topic correctly, mocking them publicly just makes it clear you hate the mentally ill and probably bullied autistic kids in school

+ there are so many actually damaging conspiracies out there whereas the majority of UFO nerds, if you fucking bothered to talk to them, are people who love the planet and love humanity and want to have hope that there's more to our existence than greed and death

if you actually looked into the discussions UFO nerds are having, you'd see they're generally fringe leftists who are anti-capitalist, anti-war, and care deeply about other people and the planet. but they're often shunned from wider leftist spaces because they're inclined to outsider thinking, which is a loss for those wider leftist spaces even if you guys don't see it and want to keep punching down on your own
