Was this a bad idea? But Yuriko hadn't been in a school club for ages, and this was the last year she could have that chance. Not only that, but this was a book club.

Do I look okay? Yuriko stopped behind the library door, tugging her skirt and fixing her cardigan. Yet, the latter slipped down her shoulders almost instantly again. She surely should have gotten the right size but bigger felt more comfortable...

Glancing behind, Yuriko didn't see a hint of Ruki. He had said that he would wait until the club was done.

"There is a little reason for me to come. It might be a literature club, but I am not interested in discussing silly romance books with teenage girls."

Ruki's words still rang in Yuriko's ears. She should be grateful he had agreed for her to attend. It would look good when she applied to university. Even Ruki couldn't deny that.

Alright... Here we go... Yuriko stepped into the library and searched her way to the backroom where the club was supposed to meet. Knocking the door, she stepped in.

"Umh... hello? Anybody here...?"

wish I could send you a good ask about an AU of an AU but every single scenario I think of keeps ending up super sad for one reason or another. I'll keep working on that. For now, as a more generic ask, some headcanons about thousand problems AU where the curse doesn't happen? (aka. wish realm!AU) If you fancy it?

So, to make things clear: the premise is akin to that of the Wish Realm, canon Emma gets stuck there and Regina goes to rescue her, except this time it's not just Pinocchio but the whole gang as adults with *gasp* A JOB? Let's see...

Lampwick survived his ordeals and somehow reconnected with Pinocchio when they were younger, and then after Geppetto died like in canon WR he convinced Pinocchio to travel the land (by boat, if I have my way and he is still raised by dwarves after a fashion) and along the way they picked up the rest of the group where they were scattered around various kingdoms;

technically they're merchants (Eugene is their budget man) but they also end up doing increasingly odder stuff wherever they go. Pierrot is still convinced he can crack it as a renowned musician and will play his lute for money (or to woo people). Twinkle has a sword. Don't question it, she's security detail;

Twinkle btw was raised in Agrabah because Sylvester and Igor thought it would be the safest place and Igor still had family there. She therefore is fluent in multiple languages and dresses more in Eastern fashion, with airy, flowing clothes, bright tones and sometimes headpieces;

while they were swinging by her parts Pierrot def tried to propose marriage to the lady Olympia but rumour has it she has refused EVERY suitor since her teenage years (also her dad isn't impressed by Pierrot's ownings) (also also while they were fucking that up Olympia's sister Coppelia pledged herself to Eugene and still sends him invaluable tips about trading. She's already planning the wedding and he's smitten);

when plot begins they've just docked back home which is why Emma (whose WR memories KNOW Pinocchio has returned) still suggests they go to him for help. IRL!Robin is still alive so Regina is not trying to drag Wish!Robin along but he still goes with them because he's looking for his young son who disappeared earlier (Lampwick found him. He really said IS NOBODY GONNA CLAIM THIS and rescued this lost child without waiting for an answer);

when reunions ensue Regina is STUNNED because these bitches aren't KIDS anymore, Roland has gained four new uncles and an auntie (Robin and Lampwick had a very disgruntled conversation but the baby was eating honey sweets the whole time he doesn't give a shit), and they all had to make a hasty escape by sea because technically it still looks like they're helping the Evil Queen do shit. Emma lowkey just wants to go home;

(shut up it said 5+ headcanons I can do what I want) Leona isn't dead btw she's super old and just never remarried (: they meet her when they swing by her village port, they think she's quite nice because when they help her carry the product home she tends to offer them fresh pastries;

Daria can be a fairytale lawyer if she wants to. Gatekeep gaslight girlboss. Mignon can be Pierrot's travelling bard rival for the same reason. Hansel and Gretel possibly never came out of that forest. Grace is...getting by (she hasn't seen her dad in decades) (she's older than he was when he left) (sometimes she wonders if he's even alive anymore)

Luz stared at the sky in the human realm. She's laid out in the grass, hands curled around the green leaves on the ground. Her ears were flat, and she was just staring at the blue sky.

It's strange. It's different. Despite how they're living, Luz stared up at the sky and can still somehow feel at peace.

(Their friends are in danger. She tries not to think about it, how they need to go back, but sometimes she can slow down and just... breathe.)

"We   are   not   engaged.   In   fact,   I   recall   you   did   not   thought   it   was   a   good   proposal,   to   unite   our   houses."   It   had   been   a   while   since   then.   The   war   is   at   a   little   halt   at   the   moment,   negotiations   are   still   being   made.   Her   mother   locked   in   a   dungeon   until   the   Northern   King   arrives.   He   will   surely   want   her   head.   The   Dragon   Queen   is   lost   in   Essos   they   say,   and   now   there   is   another   dragon   on   their   shores.   The   most   peaceful   solution   is   a   marriage.  

"Are   you   saying   you   are   finding   the   proposal.   .   .interesting   at   least?   If   not,   I   am   a   Queen,   and   people   will   look   at   me   until   a   King   is   at   my   side."   She   is   playful   with   him.   She   had   noticed   he   does   let   his   temper   rise.   Arianne   say   it's   the   blood   of   the   dragons,   always   warm,   impredictable.   "What   would   it   take   to   tame   your   beast?"

think it's time to just rest a little, still feeling a bit on the mend. I guess the email I sent singaling, hey - I think I might be combusting horrified the department so I was told to not worry. let it be known my mental fortitude is can't stop, won't stop, which sometimes backfires. I do want to focus just a bit more on larger things here before slipping off to my multi. Rn, this is the perfect time to plot or throw your muse at Sayu in the ask. Frankly, that's also the best way to get an interaction going between our muses.

The Book Club AU – Part 2

A continuation of this interaction with @eternalchiyo

Shifting in place, Yuriko glanced at Chiyo. The girl seemed to take her question much better than Ruki who had not even considered bringing her books from the demon world. Though Yuriko wasn’t sure if she could read them. Were they written in any language she knew?

“Umh… if you can ask, I’ll be grateful. But… but don’t stress about it.” Could Yuriko specify what she wanted? Did she even know? “I guess… umh… Well, I like gothic romances but reading poetry or classical literature from the demon world could be interesting, too.” 

Hopefully, this wasn’t too much to ask. Yuriko didn’t want to be a bother for Chiyo now when they were only getting to know each other better. But since to topic switched to the books at hand, Yuriko decided not to say more about this.

“Yes, friends to lovers…” Yuriko tilted her head. Was Chiyo… blushing? It was so normal for Yuriko to feel her cheeks flaring but why was Chiyo embarrassed? There was no reason to get flustered. “Oh, that’s right. Friends know you the best! So, it’s probably really easy to fall for a friend… Actually, I…”

Yuriko swallowed. This wasn’t the conversation she wanted to have right now. Why had she blurted out something like that? Gosh, she could only pray that Chiyo wouldn’t ask anything about it. No way, Yuriko could tell about this to her, she hadn’t talked about it with Ruki either. It was better that no one knew too much about her past.

For some reason, Chiyo had grown quiet as well. Awkward. “Umh… are you alright, Chiyo-san?”

Luckily, Yuriko reading out the summary, released the tension and got the conversation back on track. 

“Oh? Maybe you’re right. It could be a dance school.” Yuriko listened for a while. “You’ve been there? I wonder what those dances are like… Ruki has mentioned them a few times, but I haven’t been in one, so…”

It would be so romantic to wear a formal dress and dance together. Not that Yuriko knew how to dance but still. She was sure that those dances were like from a fantasy book or perhaps from historical fiction. And nothing could be better than stepping into a book world, right?

Chiyo’s question made Yuriko blink. Oh dear, she had been lost in her thoughts. “I… umh… I would like to read them both if that’s okay with you. I’m just not sure in which order. But if we read them both, then we could compare the stories and couple dynamics in them.” 

Yuriko glanced at Chiyo. “What do you think about that?”

Scratches chin.

While I have already spoilered the Liminal Laboratories plotline, I couldn't completely justify H:SR Kaeya's haunting of Dr. Wuchlock even after he got revenge on him. By this point, the man has been reduced to an husk of himself, and will never harm anyone ''for the betterment of humankind'', as he used to say, ever again. It felt like by robbing him of alcohol and coming to poke at him once a month, for some as level-headed as Kaeya, was a bit too extreme and petty even for him, and I was pondering if to keep this facet of him in the portrayal. But then I thought about the concept of beings of the Enigmata a bit more, and I had the most fucking coming-to-Jesus moment ever. On my own fucking lore for my own fucking verse.

Zoom real fucking close to this post. Put it on 200%, we're going places and you're coming with me liking it or not.

Beings of the Enigmata predominantly act robotic-like and on logic-based courses of actions, and this is essentially what can give an ''off'' feeling that makes normal people question these impostors. Emotions are mimicked, rather than felt, until one starts being more in tune with their human-ification process, like Kaeya does with specific partners of his. A being is going to want to study what emotions are as much as possible in order to pass off as human, but most of the time they feel less of what an human would. Their act is to appear normal, and this has been enstabilished by now in this verse. With this, I imagine that an extreme situation would bring out a extreme emotion- and beings aren't equipped to sustain a large surge of this due to their predominantly logical nature and their unattunement to natural emotions.

And here's my fucking HOLY-FUCKING-SHIT moment, keep following me here: Kaeya acts on logic, as a being of the Enigmata. With this logic, he thought that if he offered himself to the facility's experiments, due to being an Emanator with much more power and features than Hannah, Wuchlock would have accepted and let her go in order to start experimenting on him. It would have given them better results in perhaps a much shorter time, and Hannah could have been let go and returned to wherever her home was with her son. This was Kaeya's course of thinking, and a naive one at that in the simple way beings tend to try and resolve conflict.

And, by refusing this course of actions, Wuchlock did not only did a stupid thing: in a moment of extremely high emotions, he caused an ''injury'' in the very core of how a being works. He refused the perfectly woven logic for a reason Kaeya could not comprehend, and confusion turned to anger as he kept trying to plead with the man who was refusing his solution citing how they were ''at an incredibly advanced point'' in their studies with the being they had captured to start anew.

During his rampage of justice through the facility to free Hannah and her son Joakim and bring down the entire thing, I write him as robotic as possible: during that time he doesn't think with complex feelings, simply hacks down everyone that attacks him or tries to harm his companions, lets those who surrended go, acts ''revenge'' upon Wuchlock, and with bringing Hannah and her son away from the planet, his task is complete. During this time, being gunned down equaled to killing the threat before the armed soldiers of the facility could get to his companions, someone surrendering and begging him to spare them meant that they no longer had any fight in them and could be safely let go due to their ''fear'' perceived as emotion, and leaving the facility meant that they could no longer be captured and harmed. Logical and simple thoughts/actions move Kaeya to the end of this plotline.

After the entire affair is over, it took Kaeya a long while to learn how to get back in tune with the emotions he has explored during his human-ification. It was an huge set back for him, and he doesn't like to talk about these times.

And here we are with the truth of what happened: the anger that Kaeya felt in a moment of extreme emotional distress, due to not being able to understand human logic and having his rejected, was so powerful, so consuming, that it ''burned'' part of him away, as if he was undergoing the being-ification again. In a much simpler word, a failsafe mechanism sprung to life within him. Beings are not supposed to feel this kind of intense emotions, and something that's causing the strong emotional pain must be sacrificed in order to restore and stabilize their status as logical beings, per how they were created to be and continue functioning over the human Fictionologists.

Part of Kaeya, along with his trust in humankind and how they handled things, was burned that day in order to keep him functioning. Part of his emotive growth shut down in order to bring back the ''being'' that he was before ''Kaeya Alberich''.

This explains a lot of things, down to his actions becoming overly-logical and straightforwardly simple after his confrontation with the biologist, to Hannah being so apprehensive about him as soon as she sees him after being freed: the anger burning away at Kaeya should not have happened. It's an alarming thing for beings to experience extreme emotions under extremely stressful conditions.

As for him tormenting Wuchlock: I imagine that beings of the Enigmata stick close to the people who have evoked such strong emotions in them to fundamentally change them. Be it anger, hate, amusement and fun, intense melancholy etc., because it's a foreign thing for them to feel so much, they stick close to the ones summoming surges of emotions out of them, consciously or not. This choice of Kaeya is conscious, and it's as much of a form of revenge as it's the instinct to study what emotions the old scientist with granitic determination that has turned into a frail old man summons within him.

tl;dr: Beings of the Enigmata can feel extremely intense emotion(s) in stressful situations; in these cases, a ''failsafe'' mechanism activates within them, ''burning'' away part of them in order to restore the logic-based individual that they are and keep them going. This is what happened to Kaeya in the LL plotline.

There's a lot that he doesn't know about what he was, which at the age he was should be a great feat of the small daily defiance against his own making. The celestial deva looks upon the aasimar, once like herself and now Eli was more an unwilling gift. ❝ So, do you know who you were divinely blessed by? I mean the gods that gave you or feathers; or is it normal to not know who? ❞ A quest he often pondered even if he had a guess at who in the upper planes chose him; he figures a fellow celestial blessed individual may have answers.

Alastor paused some at the inquiries made by the Emeritus, head cocked to the side a little. Oh, goodness, he was about to shatter his whole idea of what Hell was, wasn't he? Certainly, he himself knew of the tales, the speculations. But seeing as no one who had been to Hell had ever come back to tell the tale, it was just that. Speculations.

He straightened up a little, hands neatly folded and resting on the table. "We sinners are confined to the Pride Ring. Lucifer's realm. Since his love for the mortals caused him to be cast out, he reigns over the human souls sent to Hell for their sins. No sinners reside in Lust, I can assure you. The Hellborn are mainly the ones who reside in the other circles." He started, weighing his next words carefully.

"One can travel to the other rings for limited periods of time depending on one's status. Rank. I, for example, can travel where I wish, but I cannot take residency in other rings. I can stay for some time, but not make a home there. Not unless I somehow acquire ownership of said realm, but goodness, what a preposterous thought~"

Terzo can't help the undistinguished snort that escapes him at the very simple exclamation of 'goodness gracious'. He's never heard such a delicate statement say so much with so little while not including a single profanity. Remarkable, truly.

"I promise to spare you the... explicit details, mio amico. Because goodness, they are explicit. Enough to get one sent to the Lust Circle I would imagine. Or at least, spend most of one's time there after death, no? How much does a sinner travel in Hell, I wonder? Are you confined to one circle based on your sins, or allowed to roam depending on one's station?"

True of how word was whispered about of a human that had this otherworldy aura to them and an odd scent even when one comment of it even, though many wouldn't dare bother him due to that when the lesser demons take one sniff then scatter like the wind if he was around which he didn't mind. Finding the crows to be a better company than the demons while making a series of bird noises at said birds before chirping at the demon who was approaching, "Birds are interesting aren't they? They sure notice a lot, especially crows. Heh, a reason why I like them really." finding it hard to not let his wings show given he was playing the human card of a lie but that may get found out eventually due to what he truly was, "They also say you're a fine demon too, is that right? Hmm??" earning a few caws from the crows before cawing back with that odd bird quirk he had a habit of doing and purring before looking a bit embarrassed of having purred.

"Pretend you didn't hear that... eheh, anyways! So what brings you out, hmm?" trying to change the topic when trying to keep himself from being too odd but then again the cover may be blown sooner or later if one was to note those details about him, "Though... I hope that no one is bothered by things when the truth comes out eventually, given this place feels home to me due to the darkness and moon. Enough of my rambling, you have something to ask or were you wondering where this odd human gotten off to?" smooth move Ryoji but he may have looked more suspect with those odd mannerisms of his and his odd scent not being quite human if the demon paid attention to it.
