I felt moved by music but nothing seemed to come immediately to mind. But then I started thinking about how empty I've felt tonight and it turned me towards Opeth. So naturally I love listening to bleak but during this particular listen I never thought about the parallels between this song and Nosferatu. Then that got me thinking about progressive black metal in general and how closely it can be to goth rock. The is a lot of overlap between themes and tone.. Maybe this needs further diving into.

Hmm I've seemed to have caught some sort of brain disease that makes me overly romanticize the memory of someone else when I hear a specific song I put on a random playlist.
The song:

It's just a way to remind myself.
#anondamusic#for all intents and purposes i love coheed and cambria regardless#claudio's voice is very unique and the way he has a certain inflection when singing tickles me brain#and the music writing is extremely deep and complex sometimes which feeds my brain#but my heart feels heavy now so i guess its time for a sad nap#Youtube

3 Rounds and a Sound
They're playing our song.
They're playing our song.
Can you see the lights?
Can you hear the hum of our song?
I hope they get it right.
I hope we dance tonight
before we get it wrong.
And the seasons
will change us new
but you're the best I've known-
and you know me,
I could not be stuck on you
if it weren't true.
I was swimming.
My eyes were dark
'till you woke me
and told me that opening
was just the start.
It was.
Now I see you, 'till kingdom come
you're the one I want
to see me for all
the stupid shit I've done.
Soil and six feet under,
kept just like we were
before you knew you'd know me.
Now you know me.
Blooming up from the ground,
3 rounds and a sound,
like whispering, "you know me.
You know me."
So this was our song.
This was our song.
I still see the lights.
I can see them.
And the crisscross
of what is true won't get to us
'cause you know me-
I could not give up on you...
wouldn’t feel true.
And the fog of
what is right
won't cover us
'cause you know me-
I could not give up a fight...
wouldn’t feel right.
Soil and six feet under,
kept just like we were
before you knew you'd know me.
Now you know me.
Blooming up from the ground,
3 rounds and a sound,
like whispering, "you know me.
You know me."

I started half dosing myself starting from last weekend and now... Well this sucks bro. My emotions are all over the place right now. I have been feeling myself escalate quicker too. Love it.
So I have been listening to trance because it seems to be the appropriate amount of harmony and droning noise to layer on the static in my brain.

For tonight I needed something that would pick me up or at the very least make me not feel self sabotaging. VNV Nation does a great job of telling the listener a story of rising above oppression whether it is from self, society, or the unknown. It also has probably some of the most quotable lyrics in modern day music.
"Raise your head up high
So the heavens hear you cry
Light the brightest fire
From the highest mountain
So the whole world knows
That your spirit can't be broken"
But as quotable as the songs are the lyrics are more of a poem that paints a larger picture that is unwrapped as you listen to the song.
It's hard to pick an era of VNV for a song to share because PTF was my first exposure to them but futureperfect was the first concert I saw. However control came into my life during a very rough patch that actually helped lift me up. But one song sticks out as the bridge between old and new and what I think of for VNV when showing it to others. Not the most complex but the most soul.
