What if i went back in time and smashed your gamecube. What would your childhood game collection look like then?
Tumblr media
#ask#anon#anon i grew up with the n64#so like. not much different? i wouldnt have TTYD or Sunshine or Luigis Mansion#but like. around the time of the gamecube. my family had the n64. ps1. ps2.#id still have played battle for bikini bottom because i had it on PS2 first#we also had a few other consoles but i dont have a proper memory of which my brothers owned. were sold. or were borrowed#because we had a dreamcast. i played sonic adventure 1 (appearently got to the casino. i remember the ring shaker)#we had an SNES at one point. played mario world and donkey kong country 1#we had a sega genesis momentarily before we moved around the time i was 5#i remember playing aladin. mortal kombat (dont know which one) and a garfield 2D platformer that had a haunted mansion level#or something#but the dreamcast. genesis and... maybe the snes. we had those before the gamecube#with the n64 my main games were mario 64. banjo kazooie. and banjo tooie. and mario kart and mario party 2#ive still got almost all of my old n64 games. im missing my copy of toy story 2 and smash 64#my brothers owned metroid prime 1 & 2 for the gamecube so. i wouldnt have had that i guess.#iirc i got the gamecube for easter one year. i say iirc because i remember specifically getting Mario Sunshine#and the gamecube mightve been paired with it but i was specifically excited for mario sunshine#i woke up to follow like. a trail of starburst into the basement (its our secondary living room) to find the game and console... i think#so i forever associate Sunshine with starburst. idk if it was intentional or not.#starburst fits really well for the few times that colourful goop pattern is used. like at the very start of the game#anyway anon you couldve just asked what wouldve happened if i didnt have a gamecube. no need for the violence.#also the gamecube itself plays a very small role in my childhood. like in comparison to the PS2 games that came and went in my household#anyway. thank you anon for the ask. i think.

Hello! If I may, I’d like to make a request.
When I was little (between 4 and 8), my brother and I played Ocarina of Time constantly. It was our go-to game when hanging out. We replayed it and found all secrets and stuff. I was wondering if you could do a platonic self aware OOT!Link one shot? One where Link considers the player to be like a sibling to him since they grew up together in a way?
Thank you so much! I really enjoy your work ❤️
you're very welcome anon! this was such a sweet request to write!! I went with the post timeskip link for this seeing as I've already written one for Majora's mask link and I thought it would be more interesting to have that difference between the two pieces <3 I hope you'll enjoy this

“Hey, I’ve been wanting to ask for a while… do you still have that old copy of Ocarina of time we used to play together? I’ve been kinda wanting to replay it. It’s a bit of a pain to get a new one or an emulator though so…”
“Uh? I think so, I can check in my attic later and drop it around your place tomorrow if I can?”
“That sounds perfect, thanks for the favour man.”
That was a fairly productive phone call, now I hopefully won’t have to mess about with an emulator or shell out for the subscription to play it again. Seeing as Nintendo doesn’t want to make their old catalogue accessible. All I need to do on my end is to wait and possibly google how to set up an N64 in the meantime.
Turns out that we did still have the old thing, and that it isn’t all that hard to set up either so it’s not like it takes too long for me to hear the calmingly melancholic tones of the game’s opening theme. Our old save file is still there too, although some of the stats on the file seem to have gotten a little bit corrupted because I’m convinced we completed it fully. Although it’s been what like 10 years or more since I would’ve last played, it makes sense that I might just be misremembering things. No harm in seeing where we left off though is there?
Well even though the file says otherwise, looking through Link’s inventory really wants to disprove that - there’s something with the same sprite as Zelda’s letter where it should just be an empty slot. It’s not got a name, if I hover over it it simply brings up a missing value error and the button prompt me to read it. It’s not like there’s any issue if I did open it, it’s an old save file so even if it does corrupt I won’t lose anything.
Nothing happened, just a fade to blank before it glitched out and the inventory screen popped back up so that I could close it and have a look around…
How did Link turn around as I was paused in the inventory and how did his face get so close to the screen?
“[Name]? I knew you’d be back at some point! I knew you wouldn’t just leave your older brother for good… you wouldn’t would you?”
“...How do you know my name..?”
I know that Ai has gotten incredibly good recently but this is an N64, an unmodded one at that, so whatever the hell is happening right now can’t be due to that. This feels like it could be the start to a creepypasta though with everything going on right now - is this like a real life ben drowned - no it can’t be, he’d be crying blood if it were the case and he wouldn’t be as friendly either.
“Because you told me it all those years ago when you first played through the game? You always spoke to me like I was a real person, like you saw me as your older brother, so it’s only natural that I started to see you like a little sibling right? Then when you disappeared I got so worried, It’s been so long but you’ve gotten so much older! Did you pull the mastersword yourself, because this much time can’t have really passed can it?... Can it?”
He looks almost like he’s about to cry, I should be caref- why am I so worried about hurting the feelings of a fictional character? Is it cause he sees me like a sibling, a younger one; because he knows me from when I was younger; or because he seems so attached to me already? Maybe I should just… turn it off so I don’t have to deal with it.
“I don’t remember how long it’s been, a good few years at least, Since I’ve played it. I wasn’t exactly planning to-”
“Is that what you used to control me!? I’ve never been able to get a good look at it before. Would you mind bringing it closer?”
“...Yeah I can bring it closer.”
The way he interrupted me was so so sad, he’s forcing himself to be cheery when he looks like he’s about to break down, like how an older brother would act. He really sees himself as my older brother doesn’t he? I have to admit that the way he’s leaning against the screen like an excited kid is also pretty cute I won’t lie to myself, if it weren’t for how insane the situation is I don’t think I’d mind him being my younger brother. He’s younger than me now anyway so that makes far more sense.
Is the screen cracking beneath him?
It’s definitely cracking under his weight, there are seconds left before it shatters.
“It’s so simple and yet it was the reason that you were able to-”
Glass can only last so long. And now he’s out, lying on my floor in a shocked heap with glass shards surrounding and covering him. After a couple of seconds of neither of us knowing what to do, we both snap into action at the same time, while I try to help him up and check for any serious wounds… he’s just laughing with the widest goofiest smile on his face, grabbing at my arms like I’m nothing but a wisp of a dream.
“I - wow I - I could never have imagined that I could - that this - that this was even an option for me…”
“But I can be your brother in person now can’t I?”

if you get this, answer w/ three random facts about yourself and send it to the last seven blogs in your notifs. anon or not, doesn’t matter! 🌻💛
hi!!! thanks for the message!
1 - i don't think i ever mentioned this here but i love retro games!! i grew up playing snes and n64 on my home pc through emulators and now i own a couple of chinese retro handhelds, which helps me explore more games i never would have played otherwise, and that's mostly how i play nowadays i did venture in windows ps2 emulation a couple weeks ago and the narnia games play like a charm
2 - i've never been to a concert which i assume isn't common? no artists i like ever come to town, i hate crowded places and me being very cheap has something to do with it too tbh
3 - a fun fact for the mbav girlies (gender-neutral) is i've had the muse-o-tronics instrumental song as my ringtone for almost 12 years now and that is commitment

your top 5 favorite characters, GO
In general??? From anything, ever? Anon, that’s really hard. I definitely don’t think I can put them in order, but I’ll give you five characters that have really stuck with me.
Simon from Gurren Lagann will always be at the top of my list. I know TTGL is a ridiculous shonen parody but everything about his character arc just hit me hard when I first watch the series. Not even just that he becomes a badass in his own right, but that from the beginning Kamina was inspired by Simon -  it genuinely made me think about how we can impact the people around us without even realizing. Also I cannot tell you how many times I’ve thought “LET’S SEE YOU GRIT! THOSE! TEETH!!” when trying to power through something shitty.
Rock Lee from Naruto. Are you sensing a pattern here? lmao I haven’t watched this show in like 10+ years and I never even made it to the end but to this day Rock Lee is still my workout motivation. No joke, every time I think “My body is on fire, I can’t do this” I remember how much training Lee did and how all the sweat and pain paid off and it actually helps.
Cole from Dragon Age. He’s the literal embodiment of compassion, obviously I adore him. He’s also such an interesting character, and I really like seeing him grow from Asunder to the end of DA:I. His conversations with people tend to end up being a study in, like, what compassion is, fundamentally, and how one can be compassionate in a cruel world. He’s a light in the darkness and he only gets bright and brighter as he learns more.
Tali from Mass Effect. The quarians are basically Jews in Space™  so it’s no surprised that I immediately got attached to her, but my love for her only grew as I continued to play the series. Even as a starry eyed kid on her pilgrimage, she’s fearless and whip smart, and she never loses that even after getting involved in all sorts of politics and as she’s given more and more responsibility - huge, life or death of her people responsibilities. She stands by her morals, but she’s also willing to hear other people out and question things that others have taken as fact for lifetimes. I love her.
I feel like I’d be remiss to not include Luigi here lol. My friends have associated me with him basically forever - like, there was a kid in middle school who called me Daisy. I couldn’t tell you exactly how it started, it goes so far back. When I was a wee baby child I would play N64 with my brother, and even though he’s younger than me I’d always let him be Player 1, which meant I ended up playing as Luigi in basically any Mario game so that probably helped. Also, I remember you could read his diary in Paper Mario and I felt so bad for him! He was just a sweet guy who was always overlooked and wanted to have an adventure of his own. Honestly, even at that age it felt pretty relatable - I thought of myself as someone’s side kick for a really long time (like in general, not a particular someone) so of course it was easy to see myself in this shy, terrified second fiddle. I think Ron Weasley was the only other character I could relate to like that - and even then Ron was kind of an asshole a lot of the time which obviously I didn’t like. At this point I just think he’s a cute character but I can’t not mention him on a list like this. 8P

[ i’m actually not that into pokemon anymore. i used to be obsessed with it when i was a child. i didn’t go all out for stats or anything, but i did like to grind my pokemon, and i was interested in shinnies and the pokerus virus.
my favorite pokemon are absol and kabutops, with arcanine, manectric, and mightyena being close seconds.
my favorite eeveelution is jolteon.
my favorite starter is cyndaquil, simply because quilava is my favorite “starter evolution.”
and my favorite legendary... man... moltres? moltres, definitely. jirachi is way up there, too. ]

2 , 21, 20, 7??
Cheers, anon~, merci beaucoup for the questions. :> (Talk to me about video games!) (Other answers here)
2: Company you’re always loyal to?None in particular. If I had to choose… Nintendo, for obvious reasons.
7: A game you’ll never forget? With no doubt, my favourite video games like Okami and NieR. I can’t forget them not only because of how amazing they are, but because they have inspired a lot of my art / writing. 999 is there, too, and it’ll be hard to forget Touhou. I keep adding so many bows and frills in my character designs because of it. Not that I’m complaining. :>
20: What was the first video game you ever played? It was probably one of those cheap Gameboy games like… Dogz or Hamtaro: Ham Hams Unite!. The first video game I actually got involved in was some N64 game like Paper Mario, Yoshi’s Story or Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. ..Or maybe it was Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.
21: How old were you when you first played a video game? …Young. I want to say 7. I’m bad at estimating time, though. All I know is: I definitely grew up with video games since day 1, due to my older siblings already being into them.

do you remember what the first videogame you ever played was?
kind of, yes! i'm almost 100% certain the first game i ever played was mario 64
#ask#anon#i can remember a good portion of my early life. like i can remember a lot of what happened during the age of 3-4#like. my family moved houses two times in the time i was 1-5 (primarily in neighboring houses owned by previous family members)#so like. i dont have a great memory of when i lived in our first house. which was a trailer.#i only have one memory of living in that trailer and we have that moment on VHS as well so i kinda have two angles of that memory#i primarily remember my life between the ages of 3-5. which was located in our second house#i have two older brothers (im the youngest) and they had a few game consoles when i grew up so we had a lot of games#but im almost 100% certain the first game theyd let me play was Mario 64. its the only one that makes sense to me#i was 3 in 2001 so you can kinda put together what range of games i had back then#the primary consoles we had (that i knew of) at that time were the N64. the Sega Genesis (i think. it had alladin and mortal kombat)...#and a PS2 and a PS1#we had a dreamcast momentarily when we moved to our third house because i remember playing sonic adventure 1#but yeah. my memory is wild#i feel like ive asked my mother a few times as to what my first game was but... i think shed answer with mario 64#my mother loves mario 64 and sunshine#and we didnt get mario sunshine until an easter of one year in our third house (which i associate with starburst... the game)#i.e. i associate mario sunshine with starburst... not our house#i couldnt tell you what the closest second game would be. it couldve been anything. like literally anything#i still have my N64. id never let that thing go believe me. even still have that copy of mario 64#thank you for the ask :) i very much appreciate the question
