The Saint: The Golden Journey (1.10, ITC, 1962)
"I know why you kissed me."
"Why?"
"As a reward for finding your breakfast - like all men, you only think of your stomach."
"It's a good enough reason. Okay, it was a reward for catching the breakfast."
"I had to dive down ten feet amongst dangerous rocks and treacherous currents for those shrimp, some reward!"

I'm certain @thisbluespirit can well understand my difficulty in actually hitting play on this episode having psyched#myself up (not to mention the small horror of realising that‚ as I'm watching in transmission order not dvd order‚ i actually had to#watch it a little sooner than expected). it's done at least. surely the nadir of tv The Saint‚ and an all round low point for ITC and for#60s tv; Erica Rogers‚ having been used and abused by the production team a few episodes previously‚ returns for what must be the most#nakedly misogynistic thing that poor little Roger Delgado ever suffered through. i mean‚ in his opening pre titles bit to camera‚ Moore (as#Simon Templar to be clear) quite literally bemoans the fact that more men don't hit their wives. that's a thing that happens and it's in#this episode. there's also a lot of belittling and bullying of Erica's character and right in the middle there's an uncomfortably long#scene in which Simon forcibly spanks her. it's. what do you say? sigh. I'm searching for positives here but this is a godawful treatment of#a truly awful script (of course Erica ends up being grateful for the beating she took and thanks Simon bc of course of course)#i mean... there is some nice scenery? some actual location work in places that aren't london streets or quarries. uh. that's about it#full disclosure: if attempting a Saint watch thru‚ skip this episode. there's nothing of value here.
