a song I associate with Flamefall AnnieLee is Make Up Your Mind by Florence + The Machine cause of the line "while you've been saving your name, I've been breaking mine for you" because she let the public ruin her name while he was writing in the paper that contributed to the slander

and damn did I feel so bad for Annie for the entirety of that book, which isn't to say she didn't make questionable decisions herself but she literally had NO ONE close to her that she felt she could turn to, she counted Crissa out because "she's Lee's friend first" she had to turn to her childhood bully because Power was the only one validating her concerns (and it made for my second fave dynamic in the entire series 😭)

I loved it! The way it explores the revolution with such complexity and also the characters who are so so good. I’ll be honest I had to stop reading several times especially during Flamefall because I was just upset about the suffering my poor guys were going through. You cannot make me choose a favourite character (but it’s Delo) and also I’m gonna be rotating annielee and delogriff in my head 24/7.

I really enjoyed Run Rose Run it was an easy book to read/ get through. I did read it with Zendaya in mind but there is heavy emphasis on Annielee’s blue eyes which everytime I pictured I just saw Chani lmao

It’s definitely a fantasy cast but I would love to see Z do it- I’m desperate for her to do another musical and it would be a different type of challenge with the accent work and the style of music (it’s fairly upbeat and loud whereas Z’s voice is soft and soulful). Kelsea ballerini voiced Annielee in the audiobook but I don’t think she’s an actress. It’s also a very White book- as far as I can tell there is no POC. I think that’s something they’ll keep in mind when adapting it for the screen. Especially in this era of Country Girls I hope it would be something Z is keen to do

Yes, the fact that it’ll involve lots of singing from the lead was the #1 reason I thought of Zendaya although I acknowledge and take your point that she doesn’t have a stereotypical “country” voice. But my favorite country music is not that kind anyway, and Zendaya’s an actress. I’m not surprised that Run Rose Run is a white book! I always thought a biracial actress would add a meaningful layer. I’m not sure I’d want to subvert expectations again if I were Zendaya given the MJ backlash she’s had to endure. But this will be a smaller film…

Anyhow, it’s silly fancasting!

The Belle of Belgrave Square - Mimi Matthews, because the romance is perf and there are horses and books and a lovely if dilapidated country estate.

2.  Best sequel you’ve read so far this year

The Final Gambit* - Jennifer Lynn Barnes

(*but it’s NOT the final one because there’s a secret 4th book coming out in August and I am so so so excited)

3. New release you haven’t read yet

Falling Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix, although at least it is FINALLY in cataloging at the library so I will have it soon.

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

*as previously mentioned: THE BROTHERS HAWTHORNE

5. Biggest disappointment

Tough call because though I’ve read an unusual number of 2 stars, my expectations for them were all pretty measured. So let’s say The Last Secret You’ll Ever Keep by Laurie Faria Stolz, because I really liked Jane Anonymous but this decision to tell a story w/ an unreliable narrator was annoying as hell.

6. Biggest surprise

The Pink House by Louise Platt Hauck. It is not every day that a random Reddit post sends you down a rabbit hole to read a largely forgotten 90-year-old story of DOMESTIC DELIGHT.

Mimi Matthews and/or Louise Platt Hauck, no contest

Top 3 fictional crushes: Tom “not that one, or that one” Hardy from This Bird Has Flown; Jasper Blunt from Belle of Belgrave Square; Ahmad Malik from The Siren of Sussex

Fave character: I’m going to boldly say Sloan Quentin from Losing Gabriel/Somebody’s Baby by Lurlene McDaniel, or perhaps AnnieLee from Run Rose Run, and Julia Wychwood, again from Belle of Belgrave.

9. Book that made you cry

The two that have made me sob the hardest are Stella by McCall Hoyle (not due to dog dying, just an ultra-sad beginning/backstory) and Gizelle’s Bucket List by Lauren Fern Watt (yes due to the dog dying).

10. Book that made you happy

Beloved Monster by Helen Markley Miller (title referring to the sprawling and architecturally ungainly country manor she’s inherited) was pure delight from beginning to end.

Plus Maisie Lockwood #2, of course.

When I saw Dolly Parton's name on this book, I absolutely had to read it! I noticed much inside these pages that had to come from Dolly, so I was not disappointed.

This is a story about a young woman, Annielee Keyes, hitching her way to Nashville and quickly rising to fame as a country singer. There is a thriller aspect to this book, but I didn't really feel that until much closer to the end.

Annielee Keyes is, by all means, just like her nickname, a firecracker. So, it was no surprise that her personality won her the respect of retired country superstar Ruthana. This begins her trip to fame after handsome Ethan Blake makes their introduction.

This story has romance, secrets that are revealed, and a whole lot of country music! This isn't the style of book I usually read, but I was still able to enjoy it!

Finally got to read Dolly Parton's, with the help of James Patterson, book "Run Rose Run" and loved it!!! 😀 Was like a lot of her songs and told a great story about an up and coming country singer/songwriter Annielee Keyes, who is hiding a tragic past that she's escaping from. She gets help from Ruthanna Ryder, a highly fictionalized version of Dolly, and falls in love with her lead guitarist/songwriter & boxer/ex-solider Ethan Blake who is a kindred spirit and I loved their love story. This story was a great mix of a music story like "Daisy Jones and the Six", a romance novel, and a mystery/crime thriller at times too. Dolly even wrote songs for this book and released an album for it too. Plus, it is becoming a movie thanks to Dolly and James teaming up with Reese Witherspoon and Sony, which makes me hope that Ethan is played by Harris Dickinson since he was also in their movie "Where the Crawdads Sing"!!! 🥰 Seriously this character fits with others we've seen Harris play and it would be amazing to see him be the romantic male lead and knowing it ends happily. Have no idea who could play Annielee besides maybe an actual country singer, but we do know Dolly will play Ruthanna and I will totally watch when this comes out.

Artist Annie Frances Lee was a Chief Clerk in the Engineering Department of a railroad. She passed on November 24, 2014 an internationally acclaimed artist and gallery owner known to art collectors the world over as "Annie Lee."

As an adult one Monday morning at five o'clock as Annie Lee tried to get it together, she came up with "Blue Monday." She wondered if anybody else felt as bad as she did having to go out on that cold winter morning to catch the bus to work. Annie Lee is a humorist and a realist and her style has been referred to as "#BlackAmericana."

Her works have been featured in "ER", Bill Cosby's spin-off show "A Different World" and Eddie Murphy's movies "Coming to America" and "Boomerang".

Who can relate? I’m so tired y’all that it’s taking all my energy to breathe. Don’t get me wrong...I’m forever grateful for your orders. I’m such a perfectionist that I didn’t want anything in my business to change during this pandemic which included my shipping times, customer service etc. I have pushed myself too far to the point I have neglected my health, kids and many other things. Spending more quality time with them was one of reasons I started my business. I’m working solo from orders, to packaging, to constant emails and my DM’s and inboxes are crazy to the point I want to disable it. Group chats are the worst right now but I don’t have the mental space to respond. I didn’t stick to my business formula which was God, Family and then business.
