Continued from here for @stayliquid
The cool fresh air outside hit her instantly, and she could feel goosebumps rising on her bare arms, but she ignored them, about to try and push past him the moment he set her down before realizing he'd placed himself in front of the door. Big blue hues stared up at him as he spoke and she shook her head. "She!" the blonde started, pointing back in the general direction of the house. "She said you slept with her while we were still dating and I told her you wouldn't do that to me and she laughed at me."

Annie nodded slightly, figuring her words wouldn't have had much sway. Once he had his mind set to something it wasn't often it changed. "Okay." she agreed, not about to start another argument over something so small. His reaction had a fuller laugh leaving the blonde as she took another sip of her drink, reaching out to take his hand in hers, squeezing it gently, before big blue hues were looking up at him. "Well who knows, maybe on our search we'll find an empty bedroom." she mused suggestively.
"i always have fun anyway, don't worry about that." he had always been very easy going,. he was content to nurse a beer and sit with friends while watching the crazyness around him. that wasn't always as exciting for annie, especially when some random girl appeared to talk about hooking up with him. he let out a snort of a laugh, "not particularly," though he had been the one to point out her missing friends, he didn't really want to find them. "but yes, i'll come look with you."

No Longer Her
A bit of angst for my oc Silver, inspired by what happened to Patience in the US show. Set in a timeline where Mary didn't get sucked off. (Ft @idiotwithanipad 's oc Amy).
-
Her heart melted at the sight of all the little'ens sat in the library, gathered in a circle around a man wearing a long violet robe that pools around his stall and an obviously fake white beard tied to his face, along with a pointed hat with stars. Most of the nippers were focused more on the hat than the story read to them, one of magic castles and foolhardy knights and cunning witch folk.
Mary fiddled her fingers before her as her eyes laid on a young girl child with hair dark as the night. Hair like her little'en...had. She swallowed the twenty year old grief. This were the kind of fantastic tale that her darling girl no doubt was enraptured by in her youth. Mayhaps she be watching from the lands of those sucked off, with Annie at her side. T'is the only way she gets through each day, by imagining that be the case, by believing both her loves remain close.
Glancing to her right, she sees Alison and Mia, the latter holding her own babe in her arms, almost one. Had been a shock when their honorary niece had appeared in the room for her eighteenth birthday with her belly enlarged with a new little Cooper on the way. It didn't seem too long ago they were waving Alison, the man one and baby Mia off as they left their home. And only a year before that when....
Well. Life doth go on. At least for the Livings. She 'spose it does for them as well.
They has all adapted to life in the hotel. Privacy and space may be more of a challenge, but they makes do. Alison left them young Kitty's room for their own, while Mary and Robin's shared room near the attic remained mostly unused, though now turned into a storage space - at least they still had a bed. And they had a new face among them, another little'en, died same age as her own. Amy, who Humphrey - head and body bit - had adopted as his own, was one of the family now.
Life, and Death, moves on. The wheel keeps spinning new threads. There be so many new things to enjoy and explore and learn with all the new faces and groups each day...
And yet Mary can never shake the strange black ache in her chest. A weight she can't seem to wriggle herself free of.
T'is more than just simple longing to be reunited with those she's lost. Is a sense of dread and unease that has kept her from sleeping through the night for many a year. She thought she'd moved past bein' a scardey cat, the veil of ignorance having been lifted and made the world far less fearful. It was one thing be scared of silly things like fireworks and overly loud sneezes. T'was another to not even be aware what was worrying her so.
For now, she puts it to the back of her mind yet again. Mia'a little one is smiling at her and Mary pulls a silly face, appreciating all the time that the babe still has the Sight. The wizard reading the book makes reaches the thrilling climax and the kids all gasp and clap, along with Robin who be cheering for him to read more.
-
"It should not be possible to get migraines when you're dead." Fanny complained, rubbing at her brow; "Honestly, I don't know how your daughter and those others can stand it!"
Humphrey just smirks from his spot, head resting on its side on the sideboard; "Think she just pulls her headphones on to protect her ears. And the others are all swollen with bubonic lumps."
"Ew." Kitty nearly gagged and Mary giggled into her hand.
Construction had been going on the past couple of days to expand the spa in the basement. On the plus side it meant the hotel was closed for the week, leaving more rooms free for them all to use, just like old times. The downside was the noise of the drilling, taking them back to the times when they had to deal with Alison and Mike's early disruptions.
Humphrey's girl seemed to prefer to spend as much time in the basement with the infected ones as she did upstairs with them. Mary often wondered if she would come up at all if not for Humphrey, who she was most attached to. Mary was fond of the girl, her sharp tongue reminded her so much of Annie, but the pain of her own loss and who young Amy reminded her of made her keep her distance a little. She didn't think she could bear to get attached to another child again.
Robin was also close to the child, as he often attached himself to any 'cub' that came into their unlives, but he also spent as much time outdoors laughing at the menfolk wacking their little white balls with sticks as he did coming inside. With all the rumblings below, Mary was half tempted to venture outside and join him in watching the sunset in peace.
"We could try Music Club to drown out the noise? Amy's been teaching me some of her favorite modern songs." Kitty piped up.
"Having heard some of the nonsense she listens to, I think I'd prefer the drilling." Julian groans.
Speak of the devil, or rather the babe, Amy rushed through the door at that moment, looking bewildered.
"Amy, just in time! We can do a duet together!" The Georgian said, bouncing.
But Amy just gulped, looking as though she were in the mood for anything but singing.
Her da noticed straight away.
"Everything all right, Poppet?" Asked Humphrey; "You look like you've seen a...Well, an us."
The teenager went over to pick up her father's head and hold it in front of her.
"Pet? What is it?" Asked Patrick.
She blinked; "I...I dunno how to say this. Uhm. I was hanging out with the guys in the spa, we were all placing bets on which of the workers would flash his bumcrack next." Fanny's eyes nearly popped out at that, "And then as they were breaking down one of the walls, a....A girl appeared."
Everyone stared at her. Mary felt her chest tighten.
"A...A girl?" She asked, "Like one of thems who were thrown in the pits?"
Amy shook her head; "No, not a skeleton. An actual girl. A....a ghost. Like us. She just walked out of the dirt and stood there, staring at us all."
"W-what dids this girl look like?!" Mary stood up from her chair, anxiety beating a set of drums in her head.
"Uh, my age, little bit taller, I think. Really cool boots, kinda Hot Topic fashion sense, black hair with a-."
"Fringe the color of a dusk sky?!"
"....If you mean 'pink', yeah." Amy clarified. "That's her."
A gasp ripped throughout the room, including from the head clutched in Amy's arms. Mary felt the room shake and she had to steady herself, unable to grab onto anything for support.
"It can't be! Can it? I mean it can't...." Julian scoffed, looking uncertain.
"Who else could it be? Oh, I thought Robin said he didn't think it was possible for anyone to come back." Kitty fretted.
Amy frowned; "What are you all talking about?"
"Has no one ever told you, Poppet? There used to be a young girl your age who was with us. But she...I mean we thought she..."
"Got sucked off." Mary finished, a plume of smoke emitting from her sleeve; "One night she just be gone. We search through every nook and all the crannies and nowhere she be....Even Robin's nose coulds not catch her scent..."
He would know. That's what had confirmed it for her. If there had been any doubt then surely....
"Wait. So none of you actually saw this girl move on?" Amy asked to clarify.
They all shared the same look. A sinking sense of horror...and guilt.
Mary stepped forward, "You be sure it's her, child? Dids she wear the witch's star 'pon her neck?!"
Once, she had called it the mark of the Devil. That was until her darling girl had opened her eyes. Made her see everything in a new and enchanting light.
"Is that a...pentagram?" Amy attempted to draw one in the air with her finger; "Yeah, she wore one of those. And a feather earring?"
Mary let out a cry, covering her mouth. The others in the room still looked stricken with shock and uncertainty.
"But...if it's her...then what on Earth has she been doing all this time?!" Fanny exclaimed.
"She was in a wall? Underground? We can get stuck like that?!" Kitty suddenly paled at the thought.
"Well, I mean...we seem to be able to walk through things sideways but not downwards...I 'spose, theoretically, if one were to sidle through a wall into the Earth itself, they could get..." Pat began to muse until the reality of what he was saying seemed to sink in.
Everyone shared the same distraught expression.
Mary reached for Amy's sleeve.
"Where is she?! Where be my girl?! Tell me!" She demanded, unable to contain her emotions any longer.
Humphrey quickly spoke up; "Mary, let her go! You're scaring her! And me."
Mary did so and the girl stepped back, resembling a cornered animal.
"She's still where I found her! I think, I...Nigel and Maude tried speaking to her but she didn't move, she just....Just stood there." Amy explained.
Mary didn't waste another second. She bolted through the door and raced to the staircase, descending two at a time, then working her way down to the sublevel. The footsteps of the others followed close behind.
She hadn't seen it. She hadn't seen her girl be sucked off. At first she hadn't even wanted to believe it. But what other explanation could there be if there were no sign? The child would not just hide away, leave without so much as a by your leave. She wouldn't intentionally leave Mary to worry...to grieve...Not when after Mary had confided so much in her. As they did in each other.
What chance was it there was another girl who matched such a unique description? A small part of her prayed it were all a misunderstanding. Prayed that her girl was safe in the song of angels with Annie at her side.
But another part, a tiny selfish part that she wished to indulge just once, hoped that maybe...
Mary storms into the spa, the construction workers currently on their break. The group of Plague ghosts all turn to look at her, a mixture of dumbfounded expressions on their sore ridden faces. Agnes, who had consoled Mary through a handful of dark times as a fellow mother, looked at her with mixed emotions.
And there, at the other end of the steam room, where the tiles had been shattered and beams were preparing to prop up freshly dug out Earth, stood a young woman.
Impossible to mistake for anyone else. There was no marks on her from where she'd been all these years. No speck of dirt, no roots in her hair, no blood on her nails from trying to dig her way out. As clean as a whistle, or at least as she was the day she fell down dead in the woods.
The only sign of something being very wrong came from her eyes.
The unnatural sapphire of her false lenses still as bright as ever. But they held no joy. No intrigue. No mischief.
No life.
"We've been trying to get near her but, well." Maude whispers.
Nigel demonstrated, taking a tentative step towards the girl and offering his hand.
"You alright, love? Care to sit down-?"
The girl winced away and cowered back, edging dangerously closer to the exposed dirt. As if it were a potential sanctuary, rather than a prison she was finally free of. Her lips wobbled but no sound entered.
Mary's heart shattered. Had her little girl been trapped in the dark for all these years? Had all her cries and screams for help been met with silence until sound had no meaning for her?
All this time...had she just been two floors beneath Mary's own feet?!
She took a step closer, signalling for Nigel and the others to move back.
Mary forced her best smile.
"Darling girl?"
Those blue eyes looked upward, then seemed to search around for the source. Could...Could she see all that well? Had decades encased in darkness affected her eyesight?
Mary took another step.
"T'is me, sweetheart. Is Mary." She called, softly, "Can you hears me?"
One of the girl's hands fiddled with the velvet sheath on the other, picking at it, pinching the skin beneath.
Her skinny form began to shake, bottom lip wobbling up and down.
"I's gonna come a bit closer now, 'kay." She told her, gently. "Yous tell me ifs you wants me to stop, little'en, 'kay?"
There was a niggling fear in Mary of the girl turning and running back into the Earth. Being lost in the dark and beyond her reach. If that happened, Mary would follow, and spend every second of eternity searching until she reached the child. She woulds not leave her alone again.
When the girl remained still, but trembling ever so, Mary moved even closer, arms reaching towards her.
"Come to me, darling girl. I gots yous. It all be over now. Just comes to me." She beckoned.
Finally, she was in reach to wrap her arms around her, but she didn't dare just yet, knowing first hand how it could spook her.
She waited for the girl to reach for her first. One of those pale hands moved up, slowly, until her fingers stroked against the front of Mary's bodice.
Her eyes turned wide. Disbelief. Panic. Fear.
"T'is all right. Don't be 'fraid." She smiled, slowly moving her hand to find hers; "Looks at me, darling....Silver...."
The girl obeyed, just as their fingers interlaced. The sensation was overwhelming. Mary had to bring the child's hand up to her face.
"There you is! There you is!" She cried, unable to believe it.
Silver's mouth opened and closed until a single syllable fell out, quiet as the grave.
"Ma....Ma...."
Mary tugged the girl close and threw her arms around her tight, letting the tears fall. There she was. Real and whole and...Here. So many eyes watched their reunion but they all became insignificant as Mary clutched her darling girl tight, stroking her hair, kissing her temple.
There was no hug in return. No clinging from the other party. But Mary didn't mind. Poor thing had clearly been through Hell. God knows what remained unshaken in that head after all this time. Lost. Alone. Deaf and blind and mute. It was unimaginable, and she'd been burned alive.
"I knew...Part of me knew but I didn't know...." She sobbed, hand on the back of the girl's head held above her chest; "Forgive me, darling girl, forgive me. Had I any knowing, I'd....Oh, it don't matter. You is home now. I gots you. I gots you."
All the response she got was a robotic muffle into her dress.
"Ma...Ma..."
Behind Mary, the other ghosts watched as she embraced what seemed to be a lifeless mannequin in the image of the flaky, hyper Pagan who would grace them once a month. While their hearts soared with joy that she was back, they all looked on with unease at what the experience had done to her. Turned her into a shell. Empty. Hopeless.
When Mary finally ushered her out, keeping her arms tight around her, the girl kept her head down, as if afraid to acknowledge any other existing beyond her mother figure. As she passed Amy, holding Humphrey's head, her blue eyes met the other girl's briefly, before looking back down at her boots, dragging them along with Mary's guidance.
"What did you say her name was?" Asked Amy.
"Silver, Poppet. Her name was....is Silver..." Replied Humphrey with pain etched in his voice.
He'd bet his best portrait that the poor girl barely remembered it herself.
"And....how long did you say she was missing?"
Humphrey sighed; "Twenty years."

⟬ anonymous ( ft. @ghostlyanon ) ⟭
Esteemed Mr. Arataki Itto
We regret to inform you that due to the ongoing disregard for our previous request, the named "Annie Benefits" will be revoked yet again for another undefined period of time. The person with the name in question has been collected and shipped back to the desert region of Sumeru ( Aaru Village ). Please be rest assured she has water and snacks and is listening to her favorite music.
We've decided to attach a short message from her to you along with this letter:
"Itto, please don't worry! I promise I'll be alright. Please be good, okay? I know you will... I will see you soon again."
We recommend taking into consideration our terms and conditions to guarantee the return of your "Annie Benefits". The sooner you as an individual are willing to cooperate, the faster this revocation will be lifted.
"Awh, what——?! NOT AGAIN! C'mon, this is so freakin' stupid!" In his hands, the neatly written letter was given a disgruntled crumple. The paper was mashed and tugged, until the edges were frayed and the words were nearly impossible to read.
Only the note from Annie remained intact, her thoughtfulness deserving of respect and tenderness. Her note was folded and tucked into his pocket, but the threat was quickly and decisively torn into tiny pieces. Those pieces were then ground into the dirt under his boot.
"Y'know what?! Screw you! I'm gonna go get her back myself! This is the last time you're takin' my Annie benefits from me, y'hear me?! LAST TIME!!"
#「 ( anonymous ) 」#「 ( itto ; ic ) 」#「 v. it's my job to not have a real job ( itto ; genshin ) 」#「 r. from my shoulders you’ll see the world ( itto ; annie ) 」#( ITTO COME HOME AND THIS WON'T BE AN ISSUE )#( sobs )#( c'mon man )

Muller's first taste of professional film came working as a third assistant on the 1984 horror/thriller Company of Wolves. She then went on to work for International Film and Video, honoring her for her editing, producing, and directing skills.
Muller's goal was to become a successful director in her own right, and her big break came through a chance meeting with John Stewart (brother of Eurythmics' Dave Stewart) and Billy Poveda of Oil Factory, an established film production company.
She has directed over two hundred music videos and has been a longtime collaborator with Sophie Ellis-Bextor, No Doubt, Shakespears Sister, Garbage, Blur, Annie Lennox and Eurythmics. Her work with Annie Lennox won her a Grammy for the Diva video album. She also picked up an MTV Video Music Award for Lennox's 1992 hit "Why", and was also Grammy nominated for the Eurythmics' 1987 Savage video album. In total, Muller has directed over twenty videos for Lennox and Eurythmics and has a long time collaboration with producer Rob Small.
The video for "Stay" by Shakespears Sister in which she directed was spoofed by many British comedians at the time including French & Saunders and Mr. Blobby as well as winning the BRIT Award for Best Video and also The Music Week Award for Best Video at both of the ceremonies' 1993 Awards.
She has directed eleven videos for Sophie Ellis-Bextor including "Take Me Home", "Murder on the Dancefloor", "Catch You", two versions of "Music Gets the Best of Me" and "Love Is a Camera".
Muller has also directed nine videos for No Doubt as well as nine solo videos for Gwen Stefani. When No Doubt's "Don't Speak" won the award for Best Group Video at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards, Stefani thanked her extensively, saying "I'd like to say that Sophie Muller is a genius." Stefani has also stated,
Sophie Muller is one of my most talented friends. She can and will only do projects that she is inspired by. She is driven by creativity and the love for what she does and as a result she never compromises. I consider her a true artist. I was a fan of Sophie's work before I even imagined working with her. She has a very pronounced style and taste that drew me in. I think she has the gift of being able to bring out the artist's personality, emotion and style. After working with her for the first time on our "Don't Speak" video, we became close friends [...]. On the set her direction is humble and simple, but she knows what she wants and knows when she gets it. A woman in charge in the male-dominated world of filmmaking makes the whole experience that much more exciting. [...] She has a way of making every cut have a reason and meaning. The videos have a life of their own and become better each time you watch them. I am always in shock the first time I see them and then after a few more times I am actually amazed. She has taught me a lot and I feel very lucky to have worked with her.[1]
The artwork for The Jesus and Mary Chain's 1994 album, Stoned & Dethroned, and the singles accompanying it, is composed entirely of stills from the video to the group's song "Sometimes Always", which was directed by Muller. She also directed the video for "Come On", which also appears on the album.
Muller states that her only ambition is to continue directing to her own high standards and to never grow bored. In 2004, she directed the socially aware video for Sarah McLachlan's "World on Fire",[2] where all but $15 of the entire $150,000 video budget was donated to charities. Recently, she has directed videos for Shakira, Mika, Kings of Leon, Brandon Flowers, Tom Odell and the critically acclaimed video for the Dixie Chicks, "Not Ready to Make Nice".

Cooper Hewitt Short Stories: A Formidable Inheritance from a Gilded Age
In last month’s Short Story, we feasted on dazzling jewelry designs from Cooper Hewitt’s collection. This month, Sarah Coffin, curator and head of product design and decorative arts, introduces us to Mr. and Mrs. John Innes Kane, donors of some of Cooper Hewitt’s most important decorative art pieces.
Margery Masinter, Trustee, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum Sue Shutte, Historian at Ringwood Manor Matthew Kennedy, Publishing Associate, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum
High Style from New York’s high society
Mr. and Mrs. John Innes Kane, a couple who were strong supporters of Cooper Hewitt, were both born into the same small world of social connections, wealth, and privilege that the museum’s founders, the Hewitt Sisters, inhabited. John (1850–1913) was the great-grandson of fur trader and real estate magnate John Jacob Astor; John’s wife, the former Annie Cottenet Schermerhorn (1858–1926), hailed from a family with Dutch origins dating back to the time of New Amsterdam, which later became New York. Her longer genealogy in the forefront of New York further supported his social status given that the Kane name, in and of itself, did not have the cachet of his Astor forebears. The name Astor is almost synonymous with wealth and society, partly due to Caroline Schermerhorn Astor (1830–1908)—another Schermerhorn, of a previous generation—who had married an Astor relative of John Kane’s. Caroline, known as Lina and perhaps the grande dame of New York society, codified high society in New York through her list of approximately 400 people she considered worthy of inviting to her annual balls. These socially elite friends were first referred to as the “Fashionable 400” by an Astor cousin-by-marriage, Ward McAllister. The criteria for acceptance included an emphasis on the families who had had a lot of money for a few generations—a difference with the current Forbes 400, whose only criterion is how much money those listed might have at the time of selection. The Fashionable 400 was rumored to be the maximum Lina’s ballroom could hold, but her ballroom capacity was more correctly counted as a mere 273! Caroline was a formidable woman of a generation earlier than Annie, but who, no doubt, had an impact on her.
Despite this association of wealth from generations past with the Astors, both Schermerhorn women had considerable inherited funds of their own and husbands less interested in the social whirl than they. Annie also had wealth not only from her Schermerhorn forebears’ shipping business, but from her Cottenet grandparents, whose import-export business was founded upon their arrival from France in 1822. Such businesses imported a great variety of objects, including, porcelain, other decorative arts, and furniture by Parisian furniture makers to an increasingly cosmopolitan New York. The result was an expansion of the hold on New York of the French Empire style, which was the height of fashion at the very time that the Cottenets came to the city. Charles-Honoré Lannuier and other French-born and trained cabinetmakers came to New York producing high-quality wares like those they made in France, often with imported French mounts; soon they were imitated by local furniture makers. It appears that a group of French-Empire-style furniture, made in New York in the 1820s that Annie Schermerhorn Kane bequeathed to Cooper Hewitt upon her death, came from her family, rather than purchased in her and her husband’s collecting days. It is possible, given that her husband also had New York forebears, that an earlier Federal sideboard made in New York, dating to the 1790s, and British in style, may have descended from his Astor forebears. John Jacob Astor’s wife was Scottish so they might well have furnished their house in more British taste.
Settee (USA), 1815–20; mahogany, mahogany veneer on cherry, gilding, paint, gilt metal (mounts); upholstery: cotton and horsehair (replaced); H x W x D (approx.): 87 x 234 x 68 cm (34 1/4 in. x 7 ft. 8 1/8 in. x 26 3/4 in.); Gift of Mrs. John Innes Kane; 1920-19-85-a/d
Cellarette; Designer unknown; Mahogany, other wood (inlay), gilt bronze; H x W x D: 67.5 × 63.5 × 45.7 cm (26 9/16 in. × 25 in. × 18 in.); Bequest of Mrs. John Innes Kane; 1926-22-90-a/c
Sideboard (USA), ca. 1800; Mahogany, white pine, tulip, poplar, box (inlay), brass (pulls); Bequest of Mrs. John Innes Kane, 1926-37-244-a/h
Like the Hewitt sisters—Sarah and Eleanor were her contemporaries—Annie’s interest in the arts extended to fashion. For her 1878 wedding to John Innes Kane, Annie wore a stunning ivory and gold satin gown with applied (real) pearls by Charles Frederick Worth (1825–1895), of the eponymous firm Worth of Paris (this gown now in the Museum of the City of New York). Once married, Annie attended the most fashionable events of her era, including the Vanderbilt ball of 1883 (at which the Hewitts were also in attendance), an invitation made socially possible by Annie’s relative Lina’s willingness to receive and call on Mrs. William Kissim Vanderbilt, formerly Alva Erskine Smith, as Alva’s family had older money and she produced great social entertainment (other Vanderbilts had not previously been accepted into Lina’s 400).
Annie Schermerhorn Kane’s wedding dress by House of Worth. Collection of the Museum of the City of New York.
Even though it was Annie’s husband John who sat on Cooper Hewitt’s Advisory Board in the first decade of its existence up to near his death in 1913, she is credited for the actual donation of objects in museum records for gifts dating back to 1910. Although other members of the Advisory Committee are credited with significant gifts in their own names, this double role may be because the Advisory Committee was all male. Given that the founders, the Hewitt Sisters, were women, they wanted to ensure strong financial support through male business connections, so the Advisory Committee, on paper, remained a male bastion. It included J. Pierpont Morgan, Jacob Schiff, and other financial titans who gave funds and objects to the collections. Thus, while John Kane was on the Advisory board, it may be that the gifts in Annie’s name may be his gifts as well, while he was alive; yet far more was bequeathed to the museum when she died in 1926. This is another indication that Annie and John seemed to share a strong bond in travel and collecting antiques and art, often combined.
From the gifts Annie gave or bequeathed, they appear to have collected European decorative arts from the Renaissance through the eighteenth centuries. Among these gifts was a pair of chairs with a rare verre églomisé coat-of-arms in the back splat (one was also later acquired by Judge Untermyer, who later bequeathed it to the Metropolitan Museum to join a few other pieces). The whole set originally comprised twelve side chairs, two settees, and two pedestals probably supplied by Thomas How (British, active 1710–36) to Nicholas, Fourth Earl of Scarsdale (d. 1736) for Sutton Scarsdale, Derbyshire, England. Research on the history of this set of chairs traces them to an auction of the descendants’ effects at Sutton Scarsdale in 1919, along with the rest of the set and the wood paneling. The firm of White, Allom & Co. may have purchased the set and sold it to the Kanes. White, Allom & Co. served as decorators and suppliers of both French and English antiques and room settings, as well as reproductions to clients in New York and Newport, as well as in England. The firm, like Lenygon & Morant, specialized in decorative arts and architectural elements from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and located was on Old Burlington Street in London.
Scarsdale Side Chair, 1724–36; Attributed to Thomas How (British, active 1710 – 33); England; walnut and beechwood, gilt pewter, gilt and reverse-painted glass (verre églomisé) panel, mortise-and-tenon construction; H x W x D: 104.1 x 55 x 57 cm (41 in. x 21 5/8 in. x 22 7/16 in.); Bequest of Mrs. John Innes Kane, 1926-22-58
Another Kane donation, a superb English William and Mary cabinet with marquetry probably by a Dutch-trained marquetry specialist, dating to around 1690, also was apparently from the Kane’s English and Continental collecting trips. While the purchase source of the cabinet is not known, another, almost identical cabinet, is now in the Museum of Applied Arts, Oslo, Norway, as a gift from a private collector in Sweden, who must have acquired it about when the Kanes acquired this example—perhaps at an international antiques fair.
Cabinet On Stand (probably England), 1675–1700; marquetry inlaid, veneered and joined oak, deal, walnut, and other wood, bone, brass; H x W x D: 171.5 x 133 x 55.8cm (67 1/2 x 52 3/8 x 21 15/16in.); Bequest of Mrs. John Innes Kane, 1926-22-43
Despite (or perhaps because of) this restrictive life of the Gilded Age with its social rules, most marriages were not surprises—everyone knew their future in-laws. Nonetheless, Annie Schermerhorn Kane seems to have been known as a forceful person in her own right, much like her contemporary, Sarah Hewitt. In fact, if they did not know each other well before the museum existed, which seems unlikely, Sarah had expected that Annie Schermerhorn’s 1926 bequest to the Cooper Hewitt would allow the museum to select what it liked for its collection, a fact that would suggest a close friendship. When the executors of Annie’s will determined that this was not to be, Sarah wrote a disgruntled letter to the executor of Annie’s estate after the latter’s death to indicate her disagreement.
The selection and variety of objects that the Kanes collected on their trips is also reflected in the styles of architecture of the houses they had built. Their New York house built at 1 West 49th Street in 1903–4 was designed by McKim, Mead and White, the premier New York firm of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries for Renaissance and classical architecture. Images from this house show a sense of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century taste exhibited by part of their collection, including the arrangements of ceramic pots on the tops of furniture, as would have been stylish with Delft and Chinese pieces collected during that earlier era. The classical-Renaissance style may have influenced their choice in collecting, but such a house was expected to receive collections.
However, the place where their choice of architecture and collections seems to intersect, is in Bar Harbour, Maine, where they also had a “cottage” built at the same time as the New York house. This is the same Bar Harbour where Abram Hewitt purchased a house and had it done over in 1903–4 for his family, including his daughters Sarah and Eleanor, just before his death. The renovation was completed by the same architect, Fred Savage, who created the Kanes’ “cottage.” The term “cottage” ironically referred to large mansions in summer watering holes of the rich and famous, especially Newport, Rhode Island, and Bar Harbour, Maine—the implication being that the owners were so wealthy as to consider these houses just cottages. Bar Harbour developed a similar status to Newport at the same time, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Breakwater or Atlantique, the Kane Bar Harbor “cottage,” Bar Harbor, Maine.
Photograph of Reverie Cove, the Hewitt Bar Harbor “cottage,” Bar Harbor, Maine. Ringwood Manor Collection.
The Kane cottage exterior was in half-timbered neo-Tudor style, while the interior showed more Colonial and Georgian Revival eighteenth-century stylistic sourcing. These styles would have made a fine environment for displaying some of their collections not housed in New York. The house, known both as Breakwater and Atlantique, would have been used for entertaining, although both Kanes also socialized in various clubs to which they belonged. These included The Country Club of Mt. Desert where John Kane was a shareholder. At the same time, Annie was on the Music Committee of the Building of Arts. (fn: Malcolm (Mac) Smith, Mainers on the Titanic, Camden Me and Langham MD, p. 5). Likewise, it is not hard to imagine John Kane pursuing his love of science and exploration in this maritime environment, while Annie promoted the arts with like-minded neighbors, the Hewitts, not far away—both in Bar Harbour and in New York.

I just read your last reply about Annie and I agree so much! Since the OVA was announced, and after all the spotlight she got recently, I was 99% sure she would be back by 100. Also, see how on the vol 24 cover she's on the center, being somehow the focal point of the composition. And the scene is her walking again just after waking up! However, Daddy still waiting seems like a major death flag, and I'm sure one of them is gonna die before the meeting. (1/2)
On the other hand, as much as Ymirs death still hurts me, at least she had a somehow finished story, but I cannot help but feeling there's still anything missing about Annie, like we have small pieces of her but cannot see yet the full picture, and the FT arc ending was too sudden and random? I get she couldn't get killed nor spoil the truth, but idk, something is off there. Isayama's writing has been amazing so far, so I hope he has something planned for her! (2/2)
I’m so freaking glad we finally get to see the titan trio/Shigansina trio all on the same Volume Cover AND for once Annie is in the spotlight. I mean when was the last time we saw Annie on a cover in her human form? And yeah, Annie was pretty relevant in these past chapters since a majority of them were flashbacks, so it’s only right for her to be at the center(guided along with Reiner who suddenly became snk’s new protagonist; granted she’s right behind Eren, Who is the center. Maybe that’ll allude to another cover with all of them in focus?
I totally agree too, that Annie still has this odd mystery about her. It’s kind of hard to explain, because anyone could tell from the flashbacks that Annie has always been a bit of a loner, but it still feels like we haven’t seen all of who she truly is yet? I don’t think it’s that her arc was too short (wouldn’t have complained if it were longer though) but rather that Isayama gave us pieces of her background without giving us the whole puzzle (unlike Reiner), so readers are left putting the pieces together, and with the flashbacks, we get at least half a picture of who Annie is, why she did what she did, where she came from- all that. And now, we know who her father is, we know he’s alive, and we know he’s been waiting more than 4 years by now for Annie to come back home.
And BOY, does that make me wary, like It’s great to see Mr. Leonhardt before shit goes down in Ch. 100 ( and who knows what will happen to him?) But the way he so firmly holds on to hope that Annie is alive says to me that he pretty much convinced himself to believe that she will come back, some day… It’s kind of sad actually.
With all that being said, When Annie comes back, because she will, and IF she survives this vague death flag shefuckinbetter She’s not going to be the same character we remember. Reiner for sure isn’t. Annie’s had some character growth, she grew fond of some of the 104th squad, she reluctantly got close, but her kindness, sparing Armin during the 57th expedition for one, is what got her captured, that counts for character development too, because Annie won’t fall for the same mistake twice.
And Her crystallization could also be counted as character development since she was forced to make a final choice that was her sealing herself away, her past actions are going to make a permanent change in her character once she’s released from the crystal.
If she is awake at this moment in the manga, whether siding with the Survey Corp, forced to cooperate, or imprisoned, then that parts happened already, and she’s had some form of character growth as well, or she’s still in process of growing.
Honestly I think Isayama knew what he was doing from the get-go, and that was saving the best for last.

adore you (you're lovely)
ADORE YOU (YOU’RE LOVELY) — and i adore you, too. i’ve been thinking that your love is kind of special. you should know that i adore you, too! ( adore you, nao ft. abhi//dijon )
REQUEST — the reader used to be ugly and archie bullied you. then, after summer break, you totally glo up and are now super hot, and he apologizes.
WORD COUNT — 1.6k
NOTES — i did tweak this request a little bit, simply because i don’t see riverdale!archie being a bully—i think it’s even a little ooc for comics!archie—so i opted for archie sort of ignoring the reader. also, i refrained from specifying a gender since there wasn’t one mentioned in the request. thank you so much for trusting me to write your idea, and i hope this was fluffy enough for you. i felt like it would be kinda rushed to make them kiss in this? i don’t know, but enjoy. ( requests: open )
REGGIE MANTLE’S YOUNGER sibling is hot now.
The news sweeps through the sleepy town with the sort of velocity reserved for level 4 hurricanes. The Instagram video your brother uploads on a beach in June goes high-school-jock viral (which isn’t viral-viral, but garners enough views to decimate any doubt that Reggie is not one of the most popular men within the confines of Riverdale High), though his six-pack, for once, is not the main attraction. You’re the cynosure, in all your post-puberty, swimsuit-model glory. His comments range from complimentary to explicit; two hours after the initial posting, Reggie deletes it.
From the day your surname legally changed, you’ve been your brother’s baby and the passing six years has only strengthened the bond. You two swap texts daily (having rooms adjacent one another be damned), share explicitly embarrassing moments of the other on Snapchat, and act as the other’s support system no matter how popular (football) or dorky (debate team) the event. Peers are still left slack-jawed at the contrast of personality when you aren’t in the oldest Mantle’s proximity versus when you are. He’s your protector, your shield, and the last face a person’ll see if they ever utter a murmur of disrespect toward you—which is more than a little ironic considering he has so little respect for anyone outside of his social circle.
(Within the hour of your return from your family’s annual trip to the Bahamas, Jason Blossom gets his face bashed in.
He also winds up dead two weeks later.
Reggie insists that there’s no correlation.)
September welcomes a follow from Cheryl Blossom on every social media platform, Chuck Clayton sliding into your DM’s bi-weekly, multitudes of party invitations, and a River Vixen’s uniform. Your popularity is as good as notorized, though you don’t think it’ll feel official until Archie Andrews pulls his head out of his ass and acknowledges your seemingly overnight glo-up. But the male’s always been a little more than slightly oblivious; Betty Cooper’s decade-long manhunt for his heart makes sense now that you stand in her Penny Loafers.
Or, to be more literal, your panda slippers that have seen better days.
But still, you get the attraction.
Because the absolute worst thing about your brother is not his knack for miscreance, not his aggression or his unsavory inability to play nice with others—it is Archie Andrews, his right hand man since the aforementioned boy’s unveiled talent for football, and it is that he is on your porch sometime after midnight, on the swing with the creak you frequent when your brain’s too wired for slumber, comforted by his guitar and lyric book. His back’s to you, nothing but broad shoulders and back muscles and tousled red mane, and you can make out the outline of a pencil between his teeth. Dexterous digits strike a chord that either pleases or concerns him because he abruptly ceases playing afterward.
“I thought normal people slept at this time,” you say. Your cadence, however soft it is, still renders him scared, and you’re pretty sure he jumps at least six feet off his seat. Now that? That’s viral-viral Instagram video material.
Archie chances a look at you, which is a feat in and of itself considering you can probably count on one hand how many times this guy’s ever taken notice of you. “You’re out here,” he says before swinging his eyesight back to his guitar.
You’re really growing sick of these monosyllabic conversations with him.
“Well, I’m not normal.” This time when his irises turn to you, they lingers. “Oh yeah, Reggie never told you?” you continue. “The Mantles adopted me from a vampire family. Sweet people, but don’t test ‘em, they bite.”
The corners of his mouth quirk into the beginnings of an amused grin. “You aren’t very pale for a vampire.”
You wave a loose hand around. “Stereotype.”
“And I’ve seen you out in the sun,” he counters.
“Sunblock.”
“You don’t sleep in a coffin.”
“Now that’s just racist.”
Archie snickers. It’s a sound you think you’ll always know but never get used to, like hearing your favorite song when you were a child years later. “I should, uh, I should get back to bed.” He raps his knuckles against his instrument once, yet makes no attempt to stand.
“I wasn’t aware anyone was making you,” you remark in a thinly-veiled attempt to mask the disappointment that threatens to crack your timbre. You’re hot now—have got the midnight texts from potential booty calls to prove it—and he still doesn’t desire to be in your proximity for longer than a handful of minutes. For a flicker of a moment, you ponder that it could be your personality he simply isn’t attracted to.
“Uh, n-no. No, no one is,” he stammers over his words in a way that can only be considered boyish. Even when he’s humiliating you, you find him charming. “I just thought that—I don’t know—you might wanna be alone, and I’m, you know, playing my music, and it isn’t that great yet, and–”
“I’d love to hear it.” Archie pauses mid-sentence, lips parted and tongue heavy with incomplete ramblings. You’re practically watching him mentally replay the five words, disect the syllables, make something of the meaning, and come up short. So you repeat yourself. “I’d love to hear it. If you’re okay with an audience.”
“It’s kind of a cheesy love song.”
You raise the shoulders clothed in a flimsy, white v-neck. “I like cheesy love songs.” You’re quick to add, “But if you don’t want to play it for me, that’s fine.”
A beat. Then, “I’d love for you to hear it.”
The pale pink hue of his pout gradually stretches until the two rows of blanched ivories usually hidden beneath are revealed. And you think, as you stand in the threshold of your front door, arms and legs pimpled with goosebumps, you think his smile could rival the moon’s. You’ve never seen a smile like that on anyone. It isn’t until your third date that you’ll learn he was thinking the same of you.
Your delight is delineated with two claps of your hands and a shrill squeal as the cherry on top. Party Panda emits soft thumps as you bound across the porch before situating your frame before the singer. Long and limber legs fold at the ankles, and similar to a kid you envelop your knees with your arms, intertwining your lithe digits.
Archie waits for you to settle.
And then, he just waits.
His honeycomb irises absorb your very being; they take in the hair atop your head, notice your curious eyes and nose, scan birthmarks and freckles, snag on your lips. You forget to inhale. You forget to exhale. You’re just holding your breath.
He breathes first, a rush of air compressing his lungs and traveling past his thin brims. He nods once, adjusts his arms, glances at the spiral notebook beside him, and sings. “You’re giving me fever. You’re making the pressure rise at night right through my veins. You’re making my heart sing.”
Your initial reaction to Andrews’ breathy, almost sexy, crooning is that you are so grateful the boy can sing. His timbre is virginal, inexperience dripping from every word he croons. It’s rugged, it’s unpolished, it magnetizes you in like skin-and-bone gravity, clinging, and suffocating, and, and—
—and like your favorite childhood song playing years later.
Archie Andrews is that song.
“My mind’s awake all night, daydreaming. When will you be mine? You’re making my sleep wait.” You have diary pages saturated with the loops and swirls of your handwriting about this boy. The time his shoulder brushed against you in the hall, the grazing of hands at Pop’s when you both reached for napkins, and now this—the timid glimpse underneath his lashes as he sings the last lyric, almost like it was dedicated to you. It is everything to you.
“Thinking of you is taking all my nights away, way, way. I really do adore you.” This moment doesn’t need to be inked into pages to be remembered. The feeling of butterflies building a home inside your stomach, the tickle of your mouth, the stretch of your cheeks, all of it is seared into your brain. You are going to die with this moment on the inside of your lids. “I really do adore you, my lovely. I really do adore you.”
Archie unceremoniously completes his song with a sheepish “that’s all I got.” You want to tell him that it was more than enough.
Instead, you say, “Play that last part again. The chorus.” The sophomore crooks a brow, though doesn’t debate. He reaches the very last 'adore you’, and you join in. “And I adore you, too. I’ve been thinkin’ that your love is kinda special. You should know that I adore you, too.”
You aren’t as choppy of a singer as him. The Mantles wasted a total of no time in signing you up for the extracuriccular activities a kid raised in an orphanage only experiences through the lives of fictional characters in books or television. You sing, you dance, you even spent a summer away for calligraphy camp. Everyone in Riverdale knows this, like another fact in their daily life (The car is parked in the garage, I have two kids, and Y/N Mantle is a modern-day Annie.) Archie still stares at you.
(It isn’t your voice that has him doing mental backflips.)
(You have to wait a while to learn that, too.)
“Well?” you prompt. “Was that good?”
His snort is subtle but charged. “You know you’re good at everything, Y/N.” It feels like the first time you’ve ever heard your name.
Your head cocks to the side. The bridge of your nose crinkles. A dip forms in your cheek. “You think I’m good at everything?”
“Nah,” he says, but his smile’s a tell. “I think I just adore you.”
“Yeah, I got that.”
#riverdale imagines#Archie Andrews imagines#aandrews#i might do a sequel to this#cuz i kinda had it planned that the reason archie ignored the reader#was bc reggie didnt want them dating#but he doesnt want the reader dating anyone so smsmsms#imagines

I don't really think that Zeke was trying to make normal conversation. By that remark he was actually mocking Levi and his government. Do you remember how many chapters ago, after taking down the crown regime, they were all so happy that now the press have free right of speach, and now people would stop being lied to in newspapers? Well, look at what is happening now. This is why I think Armin is being really foolish and naive. Everything that's been happening around him - newspapers lying to people, Marleans forced to live in camps on the enemy territory, some of them deciding to cooperate with enemies, but the majority of them "glaring at the wall that surrounds the camp" (on that topic, how do you think that small number of Marleans are viewed by that majority, hm?) - all of it is just a continuation of the cycle - it's how it all was when Marley won back then, and it's how it all was when Eldians won 1000 years ago. There's nothing hopeful about it.
It's what this whole scene was about:
Armin is thinking that everything is looking good and hopeful, Mikasa, after listening to him, looks hopeful and happy, Eren looks at them incredulously and asks if Armin has seen anything in Bert's memories, which Armin denies, clearly lying.
It's because Eren, after he's got other Attack Titan holders' memories, sees clearly that what is going now is how the oppression began at every curve of the cycle. Armin has seen it, too, but he's decided to be blind to it. Which, frankly, is his default strategy when presented with a reality he doesn't want to face. It's the same with how he clearly saw all the facts that proved Annie was the FT, but decided to be silent about it, because "no it can't be true, I must be wrong". He had all the facts to deduce the identities of Armour and Colossal, too, and, again, he ignored the facts glaring him in the face.
Seriously, Armin is like an ostrich - he's smart enough to see the situation deteriorating or people being spies or enemies before anybody else, but, if those facts are uncomfortable or terrible to think for him personally, he hides his head in the sand, until Judgement Day comes.
so zeke says to levi "so your reports say you were victorious? ignorance, such a frightening thing". what exactly did he mean by this? what reports? like did the sc tell the civilians that the fight with marley was over or something?
I’m assuming they reported that the mission in Marley as a success as a way to ease the people’s mind and not let them know that Eren probably… put a huge target on Paradis’ back. Perhaps we just need to get more context about it as the chapters progress though.
On that topic I love how he’s trying to carry a normal conversation with Levi and Levi just responds like, “anyway so i’m gonna slice the shit out of you bro.” LOL
