🕊️Changing the narrative about Anna May Wong’s death🕊️ Much of what I read about AMW’s death is that she died tragically—often her death is seen in a negative light. That was alone. That her career went downhill. Something along those lines. I challenge that narrative. Growing up as a daughter of a funeral counselor, I never saw death as the bad, big ending to life. I know it’s seen as taboo in many cultures around the world. I see that her death brought meaning to her life. Yes, it would been awesome if she had lived to star in Flower Drum Song. Given her alcoholism & health struggles, I doubt if she had lived longer she would been without those struggles & health issues. In retrospect, her career outlasted many of those of the silent era, spanning from silents to talkies to stage to cabaret to radio to television. It is impressive! To accomplish that in 56 years is amazing! Also, she wasn’t alone. She had a close knit family & friends group. She was particularly close to her youngest brother Richard—pictured in these photos. On the anniversary of her death, I want to acknowledge her legacy & accomplishments.🙌🏼 ⠀ If you’re familiar with sex positivity, I’m death positive.
