ANNA KARIENINA - LIEV TOLSTOI

A ressalva que precisa ser feita antes de começar esta resenha é que sou extremamente suspeita pra falar a respeito deste livro, já que ele é, de longe, o meu favorito da vida, além de que Tolstoi é, também, um dos autores que mais admiro. 

Um dos assuntos mais explorados por Tolstoi dentro deste romance é o adultério feminino, temática tipicamente realista. Dentro do romantismo, a narrativa, comumente inicia-se com o primeiro encontro do casal protagonista, e encerra-se com o casamento, que é, dentro destes preceitos, a maior realização da vida de uma mulher, que encontrará no matrimônio a felicidade plena. Dentro desta tradição, tem-se romances como "Orgulho e Preconceito", "As Pupilas do Senhor Reitor" e "A Moreninha".

Questiona-se, portanto, a proeza do casamento. A vida conjugal, é, de fato, um fator capaz de consumar a vida de uma mulher? É isto que romances de traços realistas, como "Madame Bovary" e "O Amante de Lady Chatterley", vão contestar.

Os dois livros anteriormente citados foram censurados quando publicados, por ferir valores e bons costumes. O adultério masculino, tanto na sociedade, quanto na literatura, que por muitas vezes a reflete, nunca foi visto com estranheza. Mas o feminino, este era extravagante e degenerado. E hoje, quanto disso mudou? 

Quanta isto custará a Emma Bovary, à Constance Chatterley? Quanto isto custará à Anna Karienina?

Anna é uma linda mulher da alta sociedade, casada com um respeitado e inteligentíssimo funcionário público. O casamento soa comum, até que, em dado momento do romance, ela é apresentada ao conde Vronski, um jovem militar que passa a persegui-la, dizendo estar completamente apaixonado por ela.

Como o sentimento é recíproco, Anna se verá obrigada a escolher o respeito da sociedade ou o adultério, o homem amado ou o filho primogênito. Curioso é que, Vrónski, que a princípio é tão culpado quanto Anna pela situação decorrente do sentimento que os dois compartilham, não é exposto, à mesma medida, a nenhuma das circustâncias enfrentadas por Anna durante a narrativa. Dentro de alguns momentos desta obra, demonstra-se um certo enfraquecimento do patriarcado, principalmente quando desvela-se a personalidade de Anna Kariênina. Entretanto, a força deste sempre se sobressai, configurando-se como uma das condiçoes para que se mantenha a ordem social.

Todavia, como disse no início desta resenha, Anna é somente um dos assuntos sobre os quais este livro se trata. Penso que, em sua completude, Tolstoi nos anuncia o tema de sua obra logo na primeira frase dela: "Todas as famílias felizes se parecem, cada família infeliz é infeliz à sua maneira.". 

Todos os personagens inseridos nesta narrativa possuem falhas de caráter, outros mais e outros menos. Por esta razão nos afeiçoamos e nos identificamos com eles, ao mesmo tempo que discordamos de muitas de suas atitudes. Dentro desta complexidade, Tolstoi criou Liévin, o personagem mais genuíno da obra, em minha opinião, que é como se fosse um homem tipicamente romântico deixado a mercê de uma narrativa realista. Este, aspira ao amor verdadeiro e não vê sentido no adultério, seja ele por parte do homem ou da mulher. 

É apaixonado por Kitty, cunhada do seu melhor amigo e no início da obra, está decidido a pedir a mão da jovem princesa, que também é um encanto.

É um homem simples, um agricultor, que dedica a maior parte do seu tempo ao livro no qual está trabalhando e pensando em maneiras de aumentar a produtividade de suas terras e de dar condições dignas de vida aos mujiques. Liévin é um dos personagens mais complexos que vi dentro da literatura. Seus questionamentos sobre religião e amor, sobre a sociedade e a Rússia daquele tempo, sua eterna indecisão e insatisfação consigo mesmo, fazem dele extremamente cativante. 

A obra de Tolstói, retrata, acima de qualquer coisa, o melhor e o pior que existem dentro das pessoas e como são intimamente humanos sentimentos dos quais muitas vezes nos envergonhamos, como a tristeza pela rejeição, a mágoa, o ciúmes, a indecisão, e, sobretudo, a sensação que carregamos quase que todo o tempo, de que as coisas poderiam ter sido de uma maneira diferente. E faz isto com a maestria de um escritor brilhante, autor de diversas obras tão maravilhosas e profundas quanto esta.

Na edição da Companhia das Letras, relativamente recente (antes o livro era publicado pela falecida Cosac Naify), o livro tem pouco mais de 800 páginas. É interessante porque, além de ser maravilhosa, possuí textos de apoio e uma árvore genealógica no final (sério, isso ajuda muito, os nomes e apelidos russos são bem confusos). 

Em suma, não tenho defeitos para pôr neste romance. A leitura foi um prazer, do início ao fim.
