In last decades we are taught that only future matters. Past should be constantly re-evaluated, and the parts of it that do not fit into our "visions" for the future - things, feelings, values, memories - we should simply throw out. By that we hope to create something new, something that was never seen before. But the past is the essential component of the moment we are in at present. An essential component of us. And the ground on which we stand, from which we can take the step forward. It shows where we came from, and thus points to directions we can aim towards.
