*iv. artist notoriously hard to track, there's several images on pinterest that are clearly the same style, tried with all of them and they all seem to come from a long deleted 2008 photobucket folder.
v. & viii. the oldest source seems to be long-deleted posts from this blog, which were re-posts.
xi. this is the only source i can find but i don't think it leads to the artist ): please hmu if you have any leads about all of these.
part of the mine and the bestie’s delusional headcanon that near and mello (& matt) did have somewhat of a mentor/mentee relationship with L (fuck them other kids….) whom although genuinely fond of them was a willing participant in the amoral watari industrial complex (did he care to be succeeded? did he find it amusing or an interesting long term project? were the tests and mindfuckery and hot/cold unpredictable behavior and purposeful sowing of a rivalry between them the only model of family and mentorship he knew and was capable of? did he ever really love them? will they ever know? etc etc etc.)
i’m handwaving away the “we only talked to L once” story as skillfully edited by near because 1. he loves to lie and 2. his complicated relationship with L and subsequent grief AND resentment is still wrapped in seventeen thousand layers of emotional repression and who wants to get into that. 3. also makes mello’s comments in LABB about not caring if near is hurt that he knows more about L than near does way funnier. sibling behavior
anyway the both of them have a brotherfatherhero complex the size of TEXAS but thankfully they can sublimate that in the bedroom through creative kinky means. i know the usual "don't ship them!" rethoric is that they're foster brothers but unfortunately that just makes them a billion times more compelling. to me

downton abbey 6x09 (the xmas special)
well that was a nice ep!
thomas and the never-ending goodbye lmao
i miss arsehole!thomas actually
thomas likes gossip but actually i think i'd have loved his new workplace lol
carson continues to be a dick. omg it's not anna's choice that she's having the baby in mary's bed...
ummm what else. bertie's mum is scary. also i'm not sure why she cares so much about brancaster castle being a house of good repute or whatever the phrase was. it's not like she really knew her son was going to inherit until cousin peter suddenly died...
carson with his shaking hands and skjfnkf him being like 'my father and grandfather had it but we don't know what it's called' and i was like, IT'S CALLED KARMA, CARSON
never-ending hatred for that piece of music played at the church as edith was walking down the aisle
daisy is like a mini anna lmao (i mean personality, kinda, like, being interested when someone isn't interested in her, and then not being interested when they are interested in her (seems kinda comphet/gay lol))
tom and henry and mary are being ot3 and should get in bed with each other/be three-way married
anyway that was a very christmassy/holiday-ey ep. i might add more later if i've forgotten something
eta:
the dinner with bertie and his mum popping up one after another from their seats was funny. but i also think his mum... wasn't happy about edith until lord grantham was like, yo dude. and then afterwards she just backed herself
eta2:
amelia and larry are horrible, amelia particularly in this ep, like downright rude. hooray that lord merton and mrs crawley got away from them, and fuck the house. when they die, they should go back to that house and haunt amelia and larry out of it

It's bloody well your turn, 27! Top 10 hottest fictional women/people of all time?! 😁
Well well well... If it isn't the ask I was going to answer whether anyone asked me or not. 😂
Some would call me "over prepared", "unable to count" or just plain "thirsty"... and they would all be correct.
So let's do this...
1. Ava Silva - Warrior Nun
I tried to limit myself to one character per work of fiction and this was the hardest one to narrow down from simply ALL OF THEM. EVERY SINGLE WOMAN IN WARRIOR NUN IS AN ABSOLUTE SMOKE SHOW. This is helped, considerably by the fact that they all can, and would, snap my neck. Woof. But I made myself choose. So here we go. (SorryBeaSorryLillithSorryMummySupesSorrySexyDoctorJillianSorryTheAbsoluteDeityOfHotnessThatIsShotgunMary!!!)
Exhibit A
Exhibit B
2. Bette Porter - The L Word. She's a legend for a reason. If you're ever having a bad day just hit up YouTube and find a super cut of Bette Porter swearing. Never fails. 16 year old me would turn myself inside out for this woman. (37 year old me probably still would too, who am I kidding)
Exhibit A
3. Jane Rizzoli - Rizzoli and Isles. See the last 6 months of this blog for my complete derangement facilitated by doomsday luring me over here from Supercorp. Yes we know Angie Harmon is kind of evil, yes we do still very much want to get under it anyway. Black button up supremacy!
Exhibit A
4. Bo Dennis -Lost Girl. It's Anna Silk? Playing a pansexual succubus who needs to have lots of sex or she dies?? And did I mention it is Anna Silk?? Just an amazing sex-pollen crack fic come to actual life.
Exhibit A
5. Carson Shaw - A League of Their Own. Ok, I will admit to being severely under-medicated when this show came out. And that was probably a factor in me going absolutely BATSHIT FERAL for Abby Jacobson in this role. The dimples? The arms? The cheeky little smile and the innocent little face. Urrrggghh. I. Just. Want. To. Squish. Her.
Exhibit GAY:
6. Faith - BtVS. One of the first hotties to penetrate this prickly exterior. She's a smoke show. Everyone knows it, especially her. When she swaggers in to season 7 after busting out of jail to stop the apocalypse ? ((Chef's kiss))
We present to the bench m'lord
7. Stella Gibson - The Fall. Urghhhhhhhh. Look. It's Gillian Fucking Anderson playing the most sexually liberated, yet morally dubious character we've ever seen. She wears suits. She tells men to fuck off. She drinks wine like she's making slow love to it. SHE KISSES ARCHI PANJABI.
If it pleases the court
Exhibit B
8. Jane the Vicar - Collateral. Ok, this one is maybe out of left field but I needed Nicola Walker on my list and I narrowed it down to This Nicola Walker because a) canonically (heh) gay and b) vicar's outfit (ok sue me). She also maintains that pathetic wet cat of a woman vibe that she does so well while being slightly less depressing than in Scott and Bailey.
The prosecution rests
9. Debbie / Lou in Ocean's 8. Yes. I know I'm breaking my own rule. Shut up. It was going to just be Debbie but I was looking at the evidence and it really is the pair of them together where the magic happens. We've seen both these actors be depressingly unsexy in other things (sorry. *cough*Carol*cough*) but in this they Just Eye Fuck for 2 hours and it's AMAZING.
Exhibit A
10. Villanelle - Killing Eve. Show me one woman who does not want to be murdered intimately by Villanelle and I'll show you a fucking liar. I present her 2 best looks for the jury...
Exhibit 1 - the suit and tie and ring a ding ding situation...
Exhibit 2 - the cable knit that rewired my ovaries and made me genuinely want to have little murderous babies for her.
10a. Commander Lexa - The 100. Gone but never forgotten. Continuing a pattern of brunette, lethal and soft as a kitten's arsehole for one specific blonde woman.
Honourable mentions...
M'lady
Mare of Eastown!! Every time a male show runner tries to make a beautiful woman less beautiful by mucking her up a bit I howl at her for a decade.
Diana Leatherby in Tipping the Velvet. I read the book at the tender age of 16. When I say I will never see a wooden chair the same way I mean it. Anna Chancellor in the BBC adaptation is only maybe 70% the hottie my brain cooked up tho.
Root and Shaw in Person of Interest - lost out because I couldn't choose between them!
Alex Danvers in Supergirl. Chyler Leigh is hot as fuck in this role, especially with her shaved hair. But I haven't watched enough of the actual show to judge her personality. I get the impression she becomes a bit of a cunt....
Mickey Knight in the JM Redmann books. Excluded because no one will have heard of her but lives in my heart and sexy musing forever. 🔥😘

ranking downton abbey characters:
edith’s newspaper man- died punching nazis, can’t get more iconic than that
2. rose- flapper icon!! best fashion sense, married a cute jewish man, living my dream life
3. cora’s family- PLAYED BY SHIRLEY MACLAINE AND PAUL GIAMATTI, move over england the twentieth-century is america’s time to shine, it’s just funny that the family acts like they’re so above the americans but they’re the only reason y'all still have a house, like you hate us until you want our money
4. maggie smith- 1900s lucille bluth
5. thomas- often diva a down, i love a good schemer, only one real enough to call out the class divide
6. tom- HE’D BE HIGHER BUT THE WRITERS HAD HIM SELL OUT HIS SOCIALIST, IRISH NATIONALIST IDEAS IN EXCHANGE FOR BECOMING A COG IN THE WHEEL OF BRITISH ARISTOCRACY AND SPOKESPERSON FOR CAPITALISM. why. let my man burn down symbols of imperialism. i was in love with him season 1 and 2 but after? as joyce would say he became a jester at the court of his masters.
7. sybil- feminist icon, she would’ve stopped tom’s whole arc if she’d lived
8. mrs. hughes- she’s the only one keeping these ppl alive, bad bitch, also only servant aware that this is a job in the end and while she respects her employers she doesn’t worship the ground they walk on
9. matthew- he was cool, is the reason the rich people know what a weekend is, mary’s best love interest and I miss him
10. cora- american dollar princess!!
11. bertie- i love that he’s like toby from the office but if toby was the one promoted to corporate (not ryan). like a w for dull, normal people everywhere! (not an insult this is most everyone)
12. matthew’s mom- she could be a bit much at times and a bit of a nancy pelosi kinda progressive! like the family rolled their eyes at her but she was the only one of them actually doing anything useful for society so i’m not a hater. also i love her friendship with queen maggie smith
13. edith- the best scene of the whole show is the one where she finally called mary a bitch.
14. the cook- she’s cool
15. the dad (what actually is his name?)- he’s such a dumbass, walking example of why we shouldn’t give money/land/power because you’re related to someone, i did like the scene where he vomits up blood in the middle of dinner like finally something interesting
16. anna- stand up girl. be your own individual person
17. carson- ugh
18. mary’s second husband (henry?)- the male version of the horse girl: car guy
19. mary- a bitch but she often ate I fear (except the time she was cold/uncaring and MADE JOKES about newspaper man being killed by the nazis… it’s giving melania when she wore that “i don’t care, do you” jacket. like the man died standing up against what will be a fascist regime. what exactly have you done? )
20. daisy- just annoying
21. bates- i hate this man. he is a sanctimonious, sydney carton wannabe who makes his wife’s assault ABOUT HIM. to the point that her main concern after it happens is that he doesn’t find out to avoid him getting angry. and when he does find out, he broods. he thinks he’s better than everyone and i hate him so much. like in the first season when he refuses to say why he was arrested for stealing silver because of virtue or whatever, like who gives a fuck, just tell em it was your wife. that’s how i know this show isn’t about americans. we have no problem throwing someone under the bus to save our job. americans are nothing if not the prioritization of self-interest/individualism in the name of retaining power in the marketplace.

downton abbey season 2 finale character inventory
robert: points for…. kind of. supporting Sybil in the end and also being cool with Mary when he found out about her mess but really do want to sic termites on this man. Cora should roast him on a spit and i hope the guilt never leaves him
cora: glad she isn’t dead but did not like her rivalry with isobel. like sure its your house but what do you actually know about hospitals. girl nothing. has mean girl vibes sometimes. i find her accent and mannerisms so so so funny for some reason though
violet: if i actually made a list of objectionable things the characters have done and based these off of that i would probably not have a strong opinion of her but. she’s violet. she’s number 1 queen bitch slay. her moment with daisy was really cute
mary: i know shes my romantic heroine or whatever but she annoys me sorryyy just glad this hot n cold bs is finally over and we can move ON. you couldve married matthew from jump like pleasse. but theyre cute together
edith: stocks SOARRRED this season she was Beast Rank in season one but someone mentioned the war making her nicer and they were right. her being recognized for all her hospital stuff was sweet and i felt so bad with the whole canadian guy thing……when she eventually falls in love they’ll probably be my favorite couple. just wish she didnt kiss a married guy
sybil: beautiful. pregnant. uniting ireland. winning always. top of the pile
matthew: good guy. cute. kinda boring. glad his legs are okay. got his lady. was good to lavinia
isobel: they could NEVER MAKE ME HATE YOU MRS. CRAWLEY NOT EVER!!!! because she’s too involved in HELPING OTHER PEOPLE these rich hags are trying to make me think shes like an annoying busybody. love her
anna & bates: in the trenches but at least they both got it in before he was locked up
mr. carson: grandpa <3 funniest moment of the season was him fucking with the telephone
mrs. hughes: grandmaaaaaa <333333 actually maybe the biggest heart on the show. i wish i had a set of keys like hers to wear around
thomas: devil twink. sorry about the hand but he deserved to lose all his money + was mean to a dog. kind of hope he grows a heart eventually i did feel bad when his little crush bit it. wish i had a gay person i could root for on this show
o’brien: stocks rising……still made a woman miscarry out of spite but its obvious the guilt is eating her alive. may eventually turn on thomas and i’ll cheer. solo hag rights
daisy: FINALLY STOOD UP!!!!!!! THANK GOD!!!!!!!!
mrs. patmore: always funny but leave daisy alone. she could have stopped the snowball of the whole william thing if she didnt guilt her into it
lavinia: died only so mary and matthew could get together. deserved so much better than what the writers did to her she stuck by that man no matter what.
isis: no longer in a shed. woof woof

EVERY episode of Downton Abbey after the War ALWAYS has a line where Carson is like "it's good to be running at full capacity again!" or Mrs. Hughes "I suppose the war finished off second footmen and lady's maids..." like...we KNOW what the staff was pre-War because its season one. They have ONE kitchen maid who ALSO lays the fires, and ONE LADY'S MAID for a house with FOUR LADIES who attends only to ONE. O'Brien ONLY attends on Cora!!!! Anna contrary to popular belief is a PARLOUR MAID, but she also waits on ALL THREE OF THE CRAWLEY DAUGHTERS in addition to her duties as a maid!!!!! Which is fucking laughable for a house of that size!!! She's seen dusting in the library, polishing in the drawing room, tidying in the parlour!!! AND she helps ALL THREE girls get ready every MORNING and EVENING!? And has time for witty asides with Mary?!?!?!? Downton was NEVER running at full capacity if it WAS it maybe wouldn't have had one woman doing three full time jobs at once!!!!

I think, with Anna, they're actively trying to undo C&D's damage in everyone kissing Sonny's ass as the town savior, even though her change was too rushed and based on complete hearsay. I can appreciate more Sonny haters; can't just have it be Scotty.
With Anna, it's "Sonny needs to go because he tried to kill a technical innocent man," but with Joss and Dex, it's...not. Not even close, at least it's not as believable.
Dex is easier to explain: he confessed to all this shit because he was upset that Joss dumped him. While the show didn't state the exact reason Dex fessed up, it can be one of two (or both) things: 1. He blames Sonny for Joss breaking up with him, or 2. He wants to 'right wrongs' and take Sonny was down with the latent hope Joss takes him back. Either reason makes him look pathetic, and as someone who also came from a bad home, we don't claim this bitch or his "love" or his "feelings" (considering she was barely legal when they fucked sooooooo yeah he's trash).
Josslyn...there's two parts. The first is cut-and-dry: they're attempting a reset of the character to make her more like Jax. And like they're doing with Anna, it's forced and makes no sense. Joss is actually worse because she actively endorsed mob shit and bullied her friend/ex-boyfriend over him hating the professional killer Sonny had employed at the time.
This goes into the second thing: the change in the show's moral center. The Benson Triumvirate currently runs that show and likely always has the moment C&D took over, but when CarSon was a thing, Sonny was included. When CarSon split up because Sonny cheated for the umpteenth time, he was drop-kicked. You can see it in the way the show treats their shared behavior:
Michael: He gets Willow to cheat on Chase, who was literally dying at the time, and the second Chase finds out, he's mad for a hot second before forgiving Michael and praising his intentions. He also decides to place a mole in Sonny's business to take him down because "he's a criminal," but actually because he cheated on Carly...ignoring how he is also a cheater AND a criminal. Ha.
Josslyn: Emotionally and physically cheats on Cam with Dex because "her feelings changed," which the show backs up to Cam's detriment (and Cam also swiftly forgives her). She's also the mouthiest detractor of Sonny's business despite using his name to threaten people she doesn't like. But whateverrrrrrr.
Carly: Commits a major white collar crime and the show bends over backwards to blame the whistleblower instead of the lawbreaker. She's the only Benson who technically gives Sonny a break on his crimes, but she was absolutely frothing at the mouth over the cheating...as if she has never done that to anyone in her life. LMFAO.
That's the core here, y'know? The Bensons cheat with or on people, and it's justified as "protecting the victim" or "the feelings were gone and shit happens yk?" The Bensons commit major crimes, from bribing a federal official to obstruction of justice to kidnapping to insider trading, and it's justified with "oh the bribery is fine considering who the Defendant is" or "the victim kissed her as thanks at the end so he's fine" to "well snitches get stitches bitch" and it's very eyeroll-inducing.
But Sonny cheats, and it's "he doesn't love his family" or "he's a selfish little prick," and Sonny does crimes, but it's "omg that mobster man was defenseless you monster" and "that legal deal is still shady and thus worth scrutiny" and it's very apparent the agenda shift/revelation. And honestly, Nina was just the picked woman, because something tells me this shit still would've happened if a different woman was in her place.
I think I said this when Sonny finally found out about Dex, that this whole grudge and revenge story has made Sonny the victim despite their efforts to claim the opposite. Like I've seen neutral or anti-Sonny people (and neutral or anti-Nina/anti-Sona people) side with him because the other side is fucking ridiculous and coddled by the story to an extreme degree, and audiences do not like it when you try to make them pick the side you want them to pick.
Been thinking about this one for a good while because with the recent Sonny talk going on for the past few episodes, but now I gotta talk about it.
So right now we got some characters (Joss, Anna, Dex) villifying Sonny's attempt on Cyrus' life, which like I get, but it's just got me thinking about how aside from 2 moments which I'll talk about in a little bit--nearly all of Sonny's crimes for the past few years have been done to generally shitty people.
Oh, Sonny tried to fatally poison a man in prison? Oh that's terrible, it's--oh, it was done to Peter August, a crazy murderer.
Oh, Sonny had a man beaten to a pulp in an alley? Horrifying! How could he--oh wait, that man is Smoltz/Felty, who tried to profit off of Sasha's suffering.
Oh, Sonny tried to assassinate a man in their hospital bed? What the--oh, that's Cyrus, a guy who held a mother and daughter hostage and all-around untrustworthy dude (plus isn't Laura and others legitimately suspicious of him???)
Now, to give credit to the Anti-Sonny side on this, the last one Sonny did to pretty much cover his ass when he thought Cyrus would press charges for his violent temper tantrum, but it's still just a bit...confusing to me that THIS is the part where everyone in Port Charles draws the line.
Now the two things I mentioned earlier are torturing Dex in the Meat Locker Incident, and the Pikeman Deal. Yes, torturing Dex was pretty messed up and inexcusable, but at the time, Dex seemed to be the prime suspect in the Hook Killings (him being present at Ava, Brando, and Diane's stabbings, and him being a complete stranger to PC). As for the Pikeman Deal, yes that is not good, but I SWEAR, the show initially said that "Oh yeah, the deal is actually Legal."
So I just find this whole "Oh we GOTTA bring Sonny down because he tried to kill a villain" thing strange.

downton abbey 6x08
CARSON CONTINUES TO BE A DICK
mary is so anthony-coded <3 :3 making other people be miserable when she's miserable skjfngk
edith's outfits in this ep are on point!!! like, almost all of them. iirc it's only her outfit where she made up with mary that i didn't like
thomas needs a boyfriend
THOMAS NEEDS TO BE HAPPY
carson is a dick to everyone??? like, even to mrs patmore, and mr moseley, and he tried to talk back to (question?) lord grantham, like dude just fuck offffff
lord grantham should fire him, i'd love to see his face go pale
i absolutely did not look when carson and mrs hughes kissed lmao that's filed under things i don't want to see (the other one that stands out in my memory is anna and bates' wedding night... ew ew ew)
if i could be bothered/was more into giffing, i'd gif all of my fave edith outfits from this ep
mr moseley winning over the class was fun
umm so... i didn't realise that thomas taking a bath is a sign to be alarmed...? or have i forgotten something/am i just more aware of the various other ways a person can kill themselves
carson is a dick btw
still rooting for edith and bertie. also partly because i know they end up together haha, i wonder how that happens (i think i'll go spoiler myself after this)
edith's office looks great, she and the girl she invited to the race in the prev ep should get married
speaking of which, tom and henry should get married too... honestly that kind of manoeuvring would've pissed me off like it did mary. but unlike mary i wouldn't have taken him back. because grrrr he was really pushy at one point?? at the top of the stairs. SHE ALREADY TOLD YOU TO FUCK OFF OR SOMETHING. like, people not taking no for an answer is such a turn off
eta:
eh, thought of something. thomas saying he had to be nicer to people; well i thought he'd been pretty nice to people in the past few eps...?
also, teeny tiny criticisms: there were some very quick scenes near the start of the ep that ... felt choppy, and i guess they were really trimming it for time maybe?? and thomas' attempted suicide sorta got lost in everything. but maybe i was expecting more about that because i knew it was coming

I was the TV show anon, and I see you also love Downton. So let's pretend they all somehow get obsessed with this show. Debbie is all 😍😊😏 at Sybil and Gwen (uh, no one spoil her). Tami loves the costumes, soap opera, and interplay between the sisters. Mickey loves that Thomas is evil, and we know Ian has a thing for scheming, dark-haired, blue-eyed guys. Liam likes the history and reads up on the Black British experience (he'll have a lot of things to say during the Mr. Carson Meets a Black Jazz Singer ep). Fiona likes businesswoman Mary. Franny likes that time they fell in pig mud. Everyone wants Mrs. Hughes to run their house, Mrs. Patmore to cook for them, and Bates and Anna to be sentenced to death for the high crime of boring storylines and ass kissing the rich. Lip and Carl think it's dumb and get high in the van instead. 😂
BATES AND ANNA SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR THE HIGH CRIME OF BORING STORYLINES AND ASS KISSING I'M - YEAH!

Somewhere in an au:
Kristina is now the mob boss due to sonny FINALLY fucking retiring.
CarSon has decided they wanted to travel around the world for a while with donna (Sonny has decided ever since he witnessed ava about to kill her own brother for the greater good he trusts her immensely with avery. So avery is living at wyndemere with nava.) Look a bitch is so ready for CarSon to go the fuck away👋
Josslyn lives with jax and is living her best life not worried about mob related activity.
I would still have jason being a hitman for kristina and guiding her because we all know jason would be a better mentor than sonny 😂
Jason x britt have an understanding where they're there for each other but not in a committed relationship and that works for them.
Michael and willow are co parenting and they aren't together anymore. Michael has decided to stay single for a while and focus on family and work.
Sam actually gets with a man who can give her a sense of normalcy but isn't totally boring asf.
Peter has been exposed for all his crimes and ends up going to jail only to manage to get out and when he gets out the only thing he cares about is his kid, maybe getting some revenge on who exposed him, and rising up from the ashes. Omg why did I think about peter x kristina 🙈 what even...I- boii sam would be like "Bitch he kept jason hostage! He had drew killed!" And kristina would be like "Aaaaaaand?!People change!!" Sam: 🤦 Alexis: *Starts to open her mouth but then remembers her past relationships and closes her mouth*
Franco has reverted back to being a serial killer and ends up killed by either jason, elizabeth,or cam. Basically I still want them to do a sl like the one where michael killed claudia.
Boo me if you want I would want liz/ava/nik love triangle.
Brooklyn has returned with her baby and has named him or her after chase and mike.
Brando works for kristina's organization and him and sasha are a couple.
Willow: We actually see her become a nurse and go to therapy and slowly see her and chase start to come back together but then brooklyn comes back to town and chase has unresolved feelings for her and willow has a run in with johnny zacchara who has gotten released from prison and she can't help but become intrigued by him Ooh and her and sasha are roommates. 👌
Valentin and anna get closer due to her and finn breaking up but valentin also has complicated feelings for alexis which it takes him a while to realize isn't familial as he originally thought and alexis is wary of starting anything with anyone because she starts to believe shes fucking cursed and because it's "Valentin"
Maxie and dante are a family unit until lulu comes out of her coma.

tell me all ur fav and least fav downton characters bc u reblogged two of my posts which means i would die for u now
🥺this made me soft ok
First up: if a character is a lady’s maid? That means they are my favorite human in the world or I fucking despise them. Anna? Love of my life, has a heart of gold, such a badass, went through so much shit and deserved a lot better. Like from the beginning she’s a total mom friend and she keeps people in line while also caring for them and worrying about them? And she doesn’t give up (on anyone.) and seasons 4-6 did her DIRTY. (Glad she got to commit some treason in the movie) Baxter? Loveliest person on the planet, growth - she arrives and you think she’s nice but don’t know what she’s got in store and then proceeds to adopt Thomas as her little brother and show Molesley what he’s capable of and recover from an abusive relationship and put her past behind her (and also prove Bates’s innocence iirc) and believe in everyone? Both of them are absolute goddesses and hold the downstairs together in the later seasons. And then we flip to the opposite end of the spectrum and get O’Brien who’s so cruel and bitter? And we understand why (ye olde class system and then there’s also bits of internalized homophobia I sense) but she still doesn’t get a redemption arc for the worst thing she’s done (which wasn’t killing Cora’s baby!! I sound crazy, and that was, well, bad. Remorse is shown, etc etc, but the worst thing she did was corrupt Thomas, who arrived at Downton from a background of abuse, feeling completely alone and misunderstood and probably so glad to be away from home, and then making friends with the first person who’d offer him an alliance and they were thick as thieves for a bit but he learned from her that the only way to get on was to step on people and then, after using him for half her schemes, throws him under the bus with no thought to the fact that taking advantage of someone’s loneliness and then fucking outing him... has consequences????) and- yeah. And then it seems that the third time’s the charm thing applied to Cora with maids (as in Baxter was the first maid she had who was a decent person) because Edna is vile (taking advantage of Tom’s grief and guilt-tripping him for living his life, then manipulating her way back into Downton and fucking taking advantage of his vulnerability and raping him? No thank you.)... I have strong feelings... oh also Denker’s like smack in the middle of this scale lol
Other favs include: Sybil!!! My dear fellow INFP and Jo March/Beth March split, my wonderful pansexual feminist youngest sister who had no right dying like that- our lovely socialist Irish husband/older brother (he’s the older brother Mary’s the younger sister I don’t take constructive criticism) Tom, Gwen!!!! you go Gwen be a badass secretary date Lady Sybil come back to Downton having advanced in the world I’m so proud of you what is punctuation ummm Thomas!!! Redemption arcs!!! And I love how you flip between hating him and then wanting him to grow and be happy plus he’s just so well-acted? Oh- Mrs. Hughes (why have I gone this long without mentioning her?) is the literal spine and spleen of the estate and the show would be in shambles without her, I love her a whole fucking lot and she needs more credit. Mrs. Patmore’s kind of an icon too!! Love Daisy, her arc’s great (though again, William deserved better), I really liked Rose, she was a breath of fresh air, good old Dr. Clarkson, Cora’s cool (though so fucking gullible- still she’s great), Violet’s obviously iconic and I lovelovelove Isobel (also they’re married. no I don’t take constructive criticism) and she’s so wonderfully written and acted (especially in terms of dealing with grief and/or authority), Molesley’s cool, not super strong feelings on Mary and Edith, both are very compelling and well-written+acted characters (I like their arcs) but neither are the most likeable. No strong feelings on Robert (stuck up but I like him), Bates (he drinks his respecting women juice except when he doesn’t), Carson (he’s loyal and he’s sweet and... homophobic but he’s alright), Matthew (I liked him!! with Mary...and his opinions but mostly i’m just annoyed he died), etc, mostly positive? and p much none on the later suitors (I like Bertie and Henry okay)
Not many major characters I hate, though I really dislike Jimmy (fuckboy...), Vera Bates, whoever Mary’s stalkery fiance who wanted to bribe Anna to spy on her was called, Mr. Gr**n, Mr. Pamuk, Rose’s mom, and then I think that’s it?

Dis you ever watch downton abbey? If so what are your thoughts about the show, whips, friendships, plotlines etc?
Yeah, I actually did a rewatch a year ago --- the first time I watched it I didn’t continue after Matthew died because his relationship with Mary was the only thing I cared about and the last time I watched it, I did go past that but from Day One, everyone annoyed me except for Violet ESPECIALLY Isobel.
My favourite friendship on the show was probably O’Brien and Thomas, they were good conspirators/”villains”-in-arms and then they had them turn on each other for no reason
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In terms of ships ... I probably cared the most for Mary and Matthew even though I didn’t particularly care for Mary
Tumblr media
I did like Anna and Mr. Bates, I think, but I think mostly before they got together and I just couldn’t suspend my disbelief for his ex-wife who was so spiteful that she’d commit suicide to frame him as a murderer? That was just WAY too excessive for me. And I felt like Bates’ character changed later on in the series, when he started he was taciturn and a bit gruff but he was also jovial and then by the time I stopped watching it was just all gruffness and I felt that way about everyone, like, Daisy became excessively annoying, I didn’t expect her to stay the mousy girl we meet in season 1 but when she starts freaking out at Mrs. Pattmore for having a friendship with Mr. Mason, I was just like, you’re being a brat and the explanation that her relationship with Mr. Mason was the only thing that was just hers isn’t cutting it for me, you’re being terrible.
Also Anna’s rape storyline was unnecessary and handled terribly.
I didn’t want Mr. Carson and Mrs. Hughes to get together, I thought that was obvious and excessive.
Edith was an interesting case for me because I can only feel sorry for a sad sack for so long? After a while, they get annoying, even if it isn’t the character’s fault, it’s frustrating, it’s like watching Inside Out and every time the movie would focus on Sadness,
Tumblr media
I’d just be like omg I can’t do this and it had gotten that way with Edith after going through yet another storyline where she gets the short end of the stick. I think the most I probably felt bad for her was when Mary sabotages her engagement to Anthony Strallan and I honestly thought she was terrible during the whole Marigold situation, like I kept reminding myself that that was her child and she clearly always wanted her, but she fucked over two families and I really felt sorry for the farmer’s wife who had taken her as her own.
Robert totally killed Sybil.

I was tagged by @oleander4 - thank you ~ <3 !!
Downton Abbey fans!
Let’s get to know each other in these trying times.
Tag others to fill this in or fill it in yourself - enjoy!
1. When did you start watching Downton Abbey?
In the fall of 2012! I was a senior in high school and I wanted to do some research on Brian Percival’s directorial style and....well.
2. Favourite series?
Probably season 2! I really like the WWI plot lines. I think it builds really naturally on previously established character traits from season 1, as well.
3. Team Upstairs or Team Downstairs?
Downstairs. Certain members of the upstairs can be on the team on a conditional basis.
4. Favourite Downstairs character and why?
Thomas. He’s just such an incredible character - this sloppy little mix of behind-the-scene-intention and averted story lines. If Thomas had died at the end of season 1 like originally planned, the show would not have the rewatch value for me. The fact that Thomas is gay, that he has motivations, that he isn’t a perfect person, and that there is care in his depiction/execution from RJC - it makes him the most interesting character on the show.
I don’t necessarily think he’s the most consistently written in canon, actually, because I don’t think JF knew what he wanted to do with him at times (s4!!!), but filling in the gaps with a stellar performance and with the context clues that are provided to the audience (via history or other sources connected to the show) makes this character extremely three-dimensional. He exists as a wonderful character in spite of the narrative and in spite of the creator of the show, and that in and of itself is such a rare thing.
5. Least favourite Downstairs character and why?
Of the characters that we’re supposed to like, Bates and Carson. Bates because I can’t get over how aggressive he is and how unfair/terrible of a husband he is to Anna after season 3. Carson because he’s a hypocritical homophobe who treats everyone who doesn’t lick the boot like they should be scraped on the bottom of his own.
6. Favourite Upstairs character and why?
Sybil for the first three seasons, then Edith and Cora once she’s gone. I liked how subversive Sybil was when she challenged the system, and she was such! A! Kind! Character! I enjoy watching Edith’s evolution and think she’s one of the most dynamic characters on the show in a way that doesn’t require legwork on the viewer's part, and Cora really grows on me. I like how season 2 changes her because she goes oh! A purpose! And becomes more grounded. Then in season 6 she goes out and get a job. Go Cora.
7. Least favourite Upstairs character and why?
Branson, because he was interesting and socialist and then JF turned him into a pro-America capitalist. Violet can stay because she’s funny, but she’s on thin fucking ice for literally everything else about her.
8. Do you ship anyone?
Thomas and Richard, because they are so endearing. Literally made for each other. I’m also a fan of Thomas and OMC, because I have read some amazing fics that rely on that convention (Overheard by @chambergambit, or the Halo Effect Series).
I also enjoy Daisy/Ivy, Edith/Bertie (Edith/all her guys actually, she consistently has good chemistry with them), Matthew/Mary, Sybil/Women.
9. Favourite quote?
Probably everything Thomas says. Any time he sticks it to Carson or Bates or talks nice about someone, in particular. And when he stands up for himself. I would buy something with it on it but the facebook people on etsy only make compilations of what Violet says >:/
10. Scene that made you cry?
Everyone and everything surrounding Sybil’s death (”I wanted to tell her I saw her favorite flowers”...oof). Mary telling Matthew at his grave she would always love him before she married Henry. Mary interacting with Matthew at all in season 2, honestly. Lavinia. Anna being sad all the time in season 4. Thomas being sad all the time in season three, five, and six. When Bertie says he’s been doing a very bad job of living without Edith. When Thomas and Richard get to kiss and that Thomas-theme music plays but it’s happy this time, and imbued with romantic longing and reciprocation instead of just agony over missed opportunities.
I tag @combeferre, @meryton-etc, @realitywarpinq and I’m going to cap it there so people still have others left to tag :)

Any time I get invested in a character I at some point start genderbending in my imagination. And I absolutely have genderbent versions of Thomas, Jimmy, Chris, Richard, and Edward in my mind... but they’re all modern au versions because gender changes basically everything about at least Thomas’s story. And I’ve been trying to play with “what is Tamsin/Theresa/whoever Barrow’s story” for many many months and I have few if any answers. So... I’m writing out my questions in the hopes that that process will help me figure out some answers.
Ambitions and rivals within the house? All depends on who else is genderbent. But let’s say no one - Anna is head housemaid, Tamsin/Theresa is underneath her, she and O’Brien can still be allies since Tamsin is enough beneath her not to seem like a threat, Mrs. Hughes is a better boss than Mr. Carson overall but kind of a bad match early on for T’s personality... does T have any reason to hate Bates? What is T’s plan for advancement? Thomas wanted to become a valet as soon as possible - does Tamsin hope to ingratiate herself with one of the Crawley daughters and scheme to get her married as soon as possible so as to be taken on as Lady’s Maid (preferable before goody-two-shoes Anna)? What are your schemes, Tamsin/Theresa Barrow?
Let’s assume that despite fewer opportunities than would be available to a footman, T gets herself entangled in a romance with Lady Phillipa Villiers (the duke, but no inherited titles for womenfolk). Since she would hardly be courting Mary, does she find a way to get herself invited to Downton purely with the intent of taking back her love letters? (And how does she pull it off without playing the “let’s be mischievous it’s super hot” card on Mary?) (Or do I kick the entire upstairs plot to the curb and genderbend one of the daughters. Hm.)
But speaking of daring entanglements, does anybody know about Tamsin/Theresa the way “everybody” knows about Thomas? It seems at the least unlikely to be as widespread given my understanding of social attitudes toward female homosexuality (much more on the “not a real thing” end than the “horrible perversion of nature that must be stopped” end).
What does she do during the war, and how does she re-ingratiate herself to the house afterwards? I don’t see any reason the wine stealing would change, so she must either go off and do something, (something that would bring her back to Downton again during the war as Thomas was brought back to run the convalescent home, but what? I have absolutely no helpful historical knowledge here) or she manages to pin the wine theft on someone else and keep her position? (Which would be a pretty big change, her actually getting someone else fired.) This is the part I really have absolutely no clue about it.
(While we’re on Season 2, does she become friends with Lady Sybil? Or, um, Lord Sebastian, perhaps? ...real talk, if we leave them the same gender is she in love with Lady Sybil, at least a little bit?)
What job is she doing in Season 3? Is she still just a housemaid? ...is she head housemaid and therefore Jenny Kent’s direct superior? Ick! Ah fuck it, let’s just say Anna’s the one in jail for Vera’s murder for some damn butterfly-effect reason and she’s Mary’s temporary lady’s maid. Now, Jenny can hardly threaten to go to the police for something that isn’t a crime, but maybe she threatens to tarnish Downton’s reputation by telling people in general? I feel like Mrs. Hughes would be less susceptible to this threat than Mr. Carson. One nice thing is that while Carson dislikes Thomas more and more as the show progresses, Mrs. Hughes likes him more and more, so I think she would see taking her on as Assistant Housekeeper as an opportunity to encourage Tamsin’s better nature and help her find chances to shine. From henceforth I declare everything to go much better than in canon.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve got. Mostly questions still, but laid out kinda sorta neatly ish. (The name indecision is because my google-fu is incredibly weak and I couldn’t figure out whether “Tamsin” shortened from “Thomasina” was actually in use during the time period.)
