[ad_1] NEW DELHI: Star pacer Mohammed Shami has developed an ankle condition, which currently requires medical attention, as the Indian team management will hope that he regains fitness in time for the first Test against South Africa starting from December 26 at Centurion.Shami's name has been kept in the Test squad with a star mark and the BCCI media release stated that he "is currently undergoing medical treatment and his availability is subject to fitness."However, there was no specific information on the nature of the injury as to whether he suffered it on the field or more fitness related. But it has been learnt that Shami was in Mumbai to consult a sports orthopaedic to diagnose his ankle condition."It is not exactly an on-field injury. It is an ankle condition that has developed. Shami came to Mumbai to consult the doctors. He will also go to NCA for rehab and recuperation work."The national selectors wouldn't have selected him had there not been a chance of him getting fit in time for the Boxing Day Test," a BCCI source, privy to the development, told PTI on conditions of anonymity.Shami didn't appear in the first four matches of the recent ODI World Cup due to the team composition requirements. He got a chance to play in the fifth match after Hardik Pandya tore his left ankle ligament trying to stop a powerful shot on his follow-through in the match against Bangladesh.Shami ended up getting 24 wickets in seven games and was one of the biggest reasons behind India's sustained dominance for 10 straight games in the showpiece before losing the final to Australia."Shami, in fact, came to watch one of Bengal's Vijay Hazare Trophy games as his younger brother Mohammed Kaif is also playing. He seemed to be walking with a slight limp," a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) source said.It will be interesting to note whether Shami would play the three-day intra-squad match between India Seniors and India A squads, which is a tune-up for the Tests. It is also learnt for the time being, Shami won't play white ball games as there are seven Test matches, including five against England at home and the 'Amroha Express' is expected to play a big role in the sub-continental conditions where the ball reverses a lot.Whether Shami will play next year's T20 World Cup will depend on how he fares in the Indian Premier League, where he has had two good seasons for the Gujarat Titans.Easwaran to play 1st A TestIt was also learnt that Abhimanyu Easwaran has sustained four stitches on his right hand during a Vijay Hazare Trophy game but he will be fit to play the first four-day 'Test' between India A and South Africa A between December 11-14."Abhimanyu sustained a cut between the third and fourth finger. He had stitches and was advised a week's rest. Hence by December 6, he should be good to go and if A 'Test' is on December 11, there is every chance he will play," a CAB source informed.IPL GC to wait for ECThe Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council met on Thursday and decided that the schedule of 2024 edition could only be chalked out once the Election Commission of India (ECI) announces the date of next year's general elections."Whether IPL will be held partially or fully in India will be decided once ECI announces the full schedule of the elections," an IPL GC member informed.!(function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) function loadFBEvents(isFBCampaignActive) if (!isFBCampaignActive) return; (function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) if (f.fbq) return; n = f.fbq = function() n.callMethod ? n.callMethod(...arguments) : n.queue.push(arguments); ; if (!f._fbq) f._fbq = n; n.push = n; n.loaded = !0; n.version = '2.0'; n.queue = []; t = b.createElement(e); t.async = !0; t.defer = !0; t.src = v; s = b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(t, s); )(f, b, e, 'https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/fbevents.js', n, t, s); fbq('init', '593671331875494'); fbq('track', 'PageView'); ; function loadGtagEvents(isGoogleCampaignActive) if (!isGoogleCampaignActive) return; var id = document.getElementById('toi-plus-google-campaign'); if (id) return; (function(f, b, e, v, n, t, s) t = b.createElement(e); t.async = !0; t.defer = !0; t.src = v; t.id = 'toi-plus-google-campaign'; s = b.getElementsByTagName(e)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(t, s); )(f, b, e, 'https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=AW-877820074', n, t, s); ; function loadSurvicateJs(allowedSurvicateSections = []) isHomePageAllowed) (function(w) var s = document.createElement('script'); s.src="https://survey.survicate.com/workspaces/0be6ae9845d14a7c8ff08a7a00bd9b21/web_surveys.js"; s.async = true; var e = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; e.parentNode.insertBefore(s, e); )(window); window.TimesApps = window.TimesApps )( window, document, 'script', ); [ad_2] Source link

Are there any medical professionals in South Delhi who specialize in both shoulder replacement surgery and the treatment of ankle sprains common in sports such as soccer and volleyball?
Ankle sprains and strains are frequent occurrences in sports like football, basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer, hockey, and volleyball. These injuries typically occur during activities such as running, jumping, and engaging in physical competition with opponents, causing the ankle to roll inward under the body's weight. This can result in damage to the ligaments on the outer side of the ankle and varying degrees of ankle sprain, ranging from level 1 to 3 in terms of severity.

Chronic Kidney Disease: Symptoms and Causes
The kidneys are organs that filter waste and excess fluids from the blood and excrete them in the form of urine. They are also responsible for reabsorbing essential nutrients into the bloodstream.
Chronic kidney disease, or chronic renal failure, can happen when the function of the kidneys gets impaired gradually. This can cause a slow build-up of fluids, salts and toxic waste in the body. If left untreated, this build-up of waste and fluids can cause end-stage kidney failure and can be life-threatening.
Tumblr media
Causes of Chronic Kidney Disease
Type 1 and type 2 diabetes
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Kidney disorders like glomerulonephritis, interstitial nephritis, pyelonephritis and polycystic kidney disease
Obstruction of the urinary tract by kidney stones, tumors or an enlarged prostate
Vesicoureteral reflux that causes urine to flow backward to the kidneys
Kidney artery stenosis: a blocked or narrow renal artery
Systemic lupus erythematosus: an autoimmune disease that targets the kidneys
Malaria and yellow fever
Overuse of medications like NSAIDS
Substance abuse and smoking
Injury to the kidneys
Risk factors for chronic kidney disease include age, obesity, smoking, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and genetics.
Symptoms
When one kidney is affected, the other can carry out basic functions. Therefore, symptoms of chronic kidney disease do not usually appear until significant damage has been done. Those at risk for chronic kidney disease must get checked periodically.
Symptoms Include:
Anemia
Traces of blood in urine
Edema: collection of fluid that leads to swollen feet, hands and ankles
Fatigue
Nausea
Loss of appetite
Unexpected weight loss
Pain on the sides or lower/mid back
Decreased sex drive, infertility and erectile dysfunction (in males)
Persistent itching
Muscle cramps and twitching
Frequent urination but reduced urine output
Treatment
There is no cure for chronic kidney disease. Nephrologists can prescribe medicines and treatments that slow down the progression of the disease. They may suggest dialysis or a kidney transplant if the disease has progressed to end-stage kidney disease.
The Department of Nephrology at Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals consists of some of the best nephrologists in South Delhi and NCR. They are experts in critical care and pediatric nephrology and dialysis. Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals is regarded as the leading centre for renal transplants in India with over 2500 successful transplants till date.

From Mumbai's maidans to IPL's big stage, Tushar Deshpande's journey hasn't been easy | Cricket News
Tumblr media
MUMBAI: It hasn’t been an easy ride for Tushar Deshpande, who made an impressive IPL debut in Dubai on Wednesday night, taking two for 37, including the prize wicket of Ben Stokes, to star in Rajasthan Royals’ 13-run win over the Delhi Capitals. In the beginning of 2017, the talented Mumbai pacer, who had begun to impress with his pace and control in the city’s maidans while playing for Parsee Gymkhana in local cricket, went through tremendous personal strife. “In January, I suffered ankle posterior impingement, which required a surgery, and hamstring tear one after other. The injuries were going to keep me out the game for about a year. In March, I learnt that mother was suffering from (ovarian) cancer,” Deshpande told TOI from Dubai on Wednesday.
At a stage in his career where his sole focus had to be on cricket, Deshpande did well to cope with the massive personal blow, which ultimately saw his mother succumb to the deadly disease last year. “Her whole treatment period was tough, because it’s not just the cancer patient, but his/her family members too who too suffer, seeing the patient in so much pain. However, my father was a pillar of support for me at that time. Since I was injured in 2017, that one-and a-half-year period was very tough for me as I was not playing cricket, and my mom was suffering from cancer. Through that year, I just kept my hope, and focused on getting better with my rehab and fitness,” recalled the 25-year-old. On Wednesday night, Deshpande, bowling yorkers consistently, gave away just eight, when the Royals needed 22 off the final over, with Rahul Tewatia and Shreyas Gopal at the crease. After the game, his Capitals’ teammate and South African pace ace Kagiso Rabada praised the youngster’s ability to fire in yorkers at will in practice, and even called him a “future India prospect.” “I felt really good after making my team win and bowling in a crunch situation. It was something which I did not expect in my first game. I was just focusing on my death bowling whenever I was practicing, and just tried to execute what I had practiced. I was not trying anything new, as it was ‘game time’ and current situation. I’m now looking forward to do much better in the next game,” said Deshpande. A few tips from ‘KG’ in the nets about handling pressure helped the Mumbaikar cope with IPL arc-lights for the first time. “In the match, he didn’t say much. However, in practice sessions, I have been speaking to him about handling pressure in close games. He told me: ‘Back yourself and just decide which is the most effective ball in that situation, according to that wicket,'” reveals Deshpande, who was bought for Rs 20 lakh in the IPL auction by the Capitals earlier this year. Last week, the young turk, who was still awaiting his IPL debut at that time, sought tips from South African pace great Dale Steyn after a game between the Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Dubai. Deshpande sought Steyn’s advice on how to work on his fitness as a fast bowler. “Since he was the No 1 Test bowler for eight years, I asked him what exactly is the recipe for fitness for a fast bowler at the international level. I’ve managed to remain fit for first-class cricket, but I wanted to know how he remained fit for international cricket. He just said: ‘Its repetitive, good work, over and over again. It’s a simple thing, but you tend to miss it. It was important for me that Steyn told me this. I felt very good after listening to him,” Deshpande had said in a video tweeted by the Capitals.

Like any budding pacer, he was in awe of Steyn, who picked up 439 wickets in 93 [email protected]. “I was just watching his eyes for a while. I’ve seen them on television, but this was the first time I saw those ‘crazy eyes’ in person. It’s an unbelievable feeling. I still can’t believe that I spoke to him, because speaking to your idol is a surreal feeling,” said Deshpande. Deshpande’s willingness to learn seemed to have left a mark with Steyn too. “Nothing better than meeting people who are enthusiastic and excited about becoming better players. Tushar is all that and more! I wish nothing but greatness for you my friend,” tweeted Steyn later

“Despite the fact that his mother who was suffering from cancer, which was in stage four, he never changed his schedule. He was either in the gym, hospital, practicing or playing matches,” said veteran journalist Makarand Waingankar, who’s the youngster’s mentor. A couple of years back, Deshpande had impressed West Indies pacer-turned commentator Ian Bishop with his pace and accuracy in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. On Wednesday night, Bishop praised Deshpande’s impressive start in the big league. “Congrats to @DelhiCapitals again. They are a formidable team. That was some of the most exciting fast bowling on show in one game. Nortje, Archer, Rabada and don’t forget Tushar Deshpande were brilliant. Oh, and Ravi Ashwin too very good,” tweeted Bishop.

In 2016, Deshpande was amongst the four fast bowlers chosen by the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Bowling Foundation for a training stint at the Centre of Cricketing Excellence in Queensland in Australia, under former Australian pace great Jeff Thomson. “From the time he came under ‘Thommo’ in that Bowling foundation till now, I have been impressed with his work ethic. He proved that yoga, especially pranayam is useful to a cricketer,” said Waingankar. Deshpande plays for Parsee Gymkhana in Mumbai’s local cricket. “It was an absolutely brilliant performance by him on debut. I’m really happy for him and his father. Unfortunately, he lost his mother last year to cancer. However, he stayed mentally strong, worked very hard on his fitness and waited for his chance. I always used to tell him just one thing, do all the things that are within your control and leave the uncontrollable, and he did that,” Khodadad S Yazdegardi, who’s the Vice-President and cricket secretary Parsee Gymkhana, told TOI on Wednesday. Yazdegardi is also a member of the Mumbai Cricket Association‘s (MCA) Apex Council. “I feel proud, and felt even more proud when the Capitals’ bowling coach (Ryan) Harris praised him a lot about his attitude and said he is a very good death overs bowler. He proved him right by conceding just eight in the last over. His biggest plus point is that he is a very good student of the game and a fast learner. In short, he has a very strong character and always gives his 200%, even while playing for our club in the local tournaments,” praised Yazdegardi. Interestingly, the IPL hasn’t been amongst Deshpande’s top priorities. The talented pacer wants to play for India in Test cricket. A couple of years back, he was asked by Kings XI Punjab to appear for a trial at Mohali, but he stunningly, he preferred to skip what some would term as the ‘chance of a lifetime,’ deciding instead to turn out for his club Parsee Gymkhana in a Purshottam Shield second round match against CCI scheduled at the same time at Parsee Gymkhana. Last year, a big furore took place in Mumbai cricket when Deshpande was dropped from the Mumbai team for the Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. After much hue and cry, he was eventually included in the squad, and proved his worth with some good spells.

Everything You Need To Know About Hip Replacement Surgery in Delhi
During the hip replacement surgery in Delhi, a hip joint that has been damaged or worn is replaced, usually by arthritis or injury. In the hip revision (or repetition of hip replacement) an artificial hip joint that has become loose, infected or worn is replaced.
You will meet with the orthopaedic in Delhi who will perform the procedure to discuss your treatment. It may be different from what is described in this document because it will be designed to fit your needs.
Tumblr media
ABOUT HIP REPLACEMENT
The hip is an enarthrosis joint. Normally, the ball at the upper end of the thigh bone (femur) moves smoothly in the pelvic cavity (hip) over a cartilage lining. Cartilage prevents bones from rubbing. If the cartilage wears out, the underlying bone is exposed and causes pain and stiffness in the joint. As a result, walking and moving causes pain.
A new hip joint can improve your mobility and decrease pain.
TYPES OF ARTIFICIAL HIPS
The artificial parts of hips can be metal, ceramic or plastic. The hip joints can be fixed in place by a special substance called 'bone cement'. Alternatively, it can be designed so that its bone grows on the metal. These 'uncemented' hips can be covered with a type of bone mineral (hydroxyapatite) or they can be made of a material with many tiny holes (porous coating). This stimulates the bone to grow into the artificial joint and snaps into place.
HIP REVISION SURGERY
During the original hip replacement in Delhi, the hip joint is replaced with artificial hip pieces. Generally, they last between 10 and 20 years, until they need to be replaced.
Renewing an artificial hip joint is more complicated than the original operation because the artificial hip joint should be removed before placing a new one. If the hip has loosened, it may not be so difficult for the orthopaedic in South Delhi, but if it is still attached to the bone, removing the old components can be a challenge.
Although there will be a great improvement, you may feel that the new joint does not improve your life like the original hip operation. This may be due to the fact that the muscles may take longer to recover from the reconstruction of scar tissue and the repetition of the operation.
WHAT ALTERNATIVES ARE THERE FOR HIP REPLACEMENT?
Generally, hip replacement surgery in South Delhi is recommended only if nonsurgical treatments, such as analgesics (eg, acetaminophen), anti-inflammatories (eg, ibuprofen), or using physical assistance such as a cane, no longer help reduce pain or improve Mobility.
The hip surface prosthesis is a better option for people with stronger bones. In this operation, the surfaces of the enarthrosis are covered with metal covers.
PREPARATION FOR THE OPERATION
The orthopaedic in Dwarka will explain how to prepare for the operation. For example, if you smoke, you will be asked to stop smoking, as this increases your risk of infection in the chest and wound, which may delay your recovery.
Normally, the operation will be performed under general anaesthesia. This means that you will be asleep during the operation. As an alternative, you will undergo surgery under epidural anaesthesia or lumbar [add link to epidurals for surgery and pain relief]. This completely blocks the sensitivity of the waist down and you remain awake during the operation. Your orthopaedic in Janakpuri will tell you which type of anaesthesia is best for you. Often, they are placed combined, so that people remain asleep, but epidural / lumbar anaesthesia will calm any pain immediately after surgery.
If you are going to be given general anaesthesia, you will be asked to fast. It means that you should not eat or drink, normally about six hours before. However, it is important to follow the advice of your anaesthetist.   Your orthopaedic in Uttam Nagar will explain what will happen before, during and after the procedure, and about any pain you may feel. This is your opportunity to understand what will happen, and you can help yourself and prepare questions about the risks, benefits and other alternatives to the procedure. This will help you to be informed, so that you can give your consent by signing a consent form, to carry out the procedure.
You may be asked to wear compression stockings to prevent blood clots from forming in the veins of the legs (deep vein thrombosis, DVT).
ABOUT THE OPERATION
A hip replacement in South Delhi, usually, lasts two hours.
The surgeon will make an incision (20 to 30 cm long) on your hip and thigh. Then, it will separate the enarthrosis (hip joint).
The head will be removed from the upper end of the femur (the femoral head) and a head will be inserted on a replacement rod in the femur. The cavity of the hip will be emptied to make a shallow cup and an artificial cavity will be placed. Then the two halves of the hip joint are joined (the head is placed inside the cavity).
The orthopaedic surgeon in Delhi will close the incision in the skin with stitches and clips and cover it with a bandage.
It may be possible for the orthopaedic in RK Puram to make a smaller incision on the hip and thigh. This type of operation (minimally invasive hip replacement) is performed with specially designed surgical instruments. It is not suitable for everyone; Consult your orthopaedic in Malviya Nagar if it is an option for you.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER
You should rest until the anaesthesia has passed. After epidural or lumbar anaesthesia, you may not be able to feel or move your legs for a few hours. You may need painkillers to help with any discomfort when the effects of anaesthesia subside.
They can place a special pillow between the legs so that the hip joint is still and to prevent it from dislocating.    You may be given medicine (injections or tablets), such as rivaroxaban or dabigatran, to prevent DVT. They will be given shortly after surgery, and you may need to take them for a few weeks.
A physiotherapist (a health professional who specializes in movement and mobility) will visit you daily to guide you in exercises designed to help your recovery.
You will remain in the hospital until you can safely walk with the help of a cane or crutch. Normally it's five days. However, if the general line is in shape and feels good, the surgeon can suggest that you perform an accelerated rehabilitation program, where you start walking the day of the operation and you are discharged one to three days later.
Before you go home, the nurse will give you advice on how to take care of your hip and a date for a follow-up visit.
Most stitches or clips should be removed after 12 to 14 days. The absorbable points do not need to be removed.
RECOVERY FROM A HIP REPLACEMENT SURGERY
If you need pain relief, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Always read the information for the patient that comes with your medication and if you have any questions, check with your pharmacist.
The exercises recommended by the physiotherapist are an indispensable part of your recovery, so it is essential that you continue doing them.
During the first six weeks you should not make certain movements. For example, do not cross your legs or turn your hips in or out. This is to reduce stress on the scar and to decrease the risk of dislocation. The physiotherapist will give you more tips on how to protect your hips.
Must be able to move around your house and up and down stairs. For a few weeks, you will feel that some routine activities, such as shopping, are difficult to perform and you should ask for help. You must use crutches for four to six weeks.
Generally, you can do a light job again after six weeks. But if you must stop and sit continuously at work, you may need to stay at home longer.
Follow your surgeon's instructions about driving, since the time before you can drive again will depend on several factors, including which leg was operated on and if your car is automatic.
WHAT ARE THE RISKS?
Hip replacement in Delhi is a common and generally safe practice. However, to make an informed decision and give your consent, you need to be aware of possible side effects and the risk of complications.
Side effects
Side effects, although unwanted, are mostly temporary effects that you may have after the procedure.
Your hip will hurt for several weeks, and you may have temporary pain and swelling in your thigh and ankle.
Complications
Complications are problems that arise during or after the operation. Most people who are operated on the hip are not affected. The possible complications of any operation are unexpected reactions to anaesthesia, excessive bleeding, or the formation of clots, usually in a vein of the leg (deep vein thrombosis, DVT).
Specific complications of hip replacement in South Delhi are not common, but may include:
Infection: You will be given antibiotics during and after     surgery to prevent it.
Joint dislocation: it is more likely to happen immediately     after surgery, and you may need another surgery to treat it.
Difference in leg length: your leg may be slightly shorter or     longer and you may need to wear a high shoe on the shorter side to correct     the balance.
Hip fracture: the bone can undergo small cracks while the new     joint is placed. It usually heals, but sometimes the bone can break     and require surgery.
Unstable joint: the hip joint may loosen and may require     surgery to correct it.
Damage to the nerves: can often result in insensitivity around     the scar, but rarely the sciatic nerve can stretch and weaken the foot (it     is usually temporary).
Generally, the artificial hip joint lasts between 10 and 20 years, after which time you may need to replace it.
The exact risks are individual and vary according to the patient, so we have not included statistics here. Consult the surgeon to explain how the risks apply to you.
