I have often heard from people judgements of taking a baby to Disneyland. What could a Baby possibly do at Disneyland. Well for one lots of things but my tip today is a pretty easy one. Take them to the animation building. Lay a blanket on the floor an let them just watch the screens and see everything around them. Its cool in there. The baby will love the colors and lights around them and you can take turns with family members to go on attractions around there. You can even change the baby there. The Animation Building at Disney California Adventure is not only a nice place to relax and cool off on a warm day, but there’s plenty to do while there! Something fun to do is the Animation Academy! You are able to test your artistic skills no matter what level you are at! I’m not the best artist but it’s always fun to draw and see how not so good the character comes out! Spotlight: Animation Building (DCA)

Disney’s Animation Building is often overlooked, but it’s one of my personal favorites.  Located in Hollywood Land in California Adventure, this building lives up to its name in bringing the world of animation to life.

From the moment you enter, you’re greeted by a massive room known as the Animation Courtyard.  A reel of classic Disney songs or Pixar music numbers play.  Imagine “Part of Your World” from Little Mermaid.  The walls surrounding you are filled with concept drawings and/or still shots from the movie.  Television screens are scattered around.  They might show Ariel singing, or they might show concept art.  Sometimes, all the screens show the same thing.  Other times, each screen shows something different.  

Even the lighting matches the tone of the song.  When the Incredibles theme music plays, spotlights flash their logo on the floor. When Jungle Book hits, the lighting is more vibrant.  When Aladdin’s “Whole New World” plays, the lighting darkens to reflect the soft night time feel. You are completely immersed in the world of Lilo & Stitch, Mulan, Up, Toy Story, and so many others.  After a long day full of walking, this is a perfect indoors place to sit down and relax for a while.

That’s just the entrance. There are a handful of attractions that branch off from there.  There’s Turtle Talk with Crush, where Crush the Turtle interacts live with the audience and respond to questions.  There’s the Animation Academy, where you can experience a free lesson on how to draw a Disney character.  I had Minnie Mouse once.  I think I had at least another character or two, but I can’t remember specifically who. Your drawing makes a nice free souvenir that has a personal touch.

There’s also the Sorcerer’s Workshop.  There are a few sections.  You can stop at Beast’s Library (from Beauty & the Beast), where Lumiere and Cogsworth walk you through a quiz to determine which Disney character you’re most like.  At the center of the library is the rose.  Behind it hangs the portrait of the prince.  The light grows darker as the portrait gets scratched and the rose begins to lose its pedals.  Fortunately, the curse is broken just as the last pedal falls, and the lighting brightens as the portrait is restored.  From there, you can enter Ursula’s grotto (from Little Mermaid).  Ursula gives you a chance to voice a scene from a classic movie, such as Bambi or Lion King.  

The Animation Building is an underrated gem in California Adventure.  It’s the perfect resting spot, and there are a lot of neat interactive activities and shows. The Animation Courtyard immerses you into the world of animation.  The Sorcerer’s Workshop provides a number of activities that get you to interact with the world of animation (from your cartoon reflection to cartoon voicing). In Turtle Talk, animation literally talks with you.  In Animation Academy, you are getting a hands-on experience with animation.  If you’re in California Adventure, be sure to check it out.
