Def biased bc I love the show but I loooooooove how the female characters are represented on animal control. I love how Emily’s gross and was messy eating food when she was upset and the joke wasn’t “women eating,” the joke was just how much of a disaster she was being. I love how Emily is weird and awkward and realistic when she likes a guy and knows the relationship won’t work. I love Victoria and how she’s a disaster and incapable of not fucking up the smallest things. I love how none of the women are the Mother figure. Emily’s the boss but she’s shit at her job and constantly needs her assistant as emotional support. Shred’s girlfriend is my least favorite character atm but I love how she’s just a klepto and she doesn’t have her shit together either. It’s so refreshing from literally every other tv show where the women are the sane ones or the mother figures or are the boring ones. The closest we have to a parental figure is Patel and even he’s just like. Being a father is so much work. My daughters are always bullying me. I accidentally embarrassed them on TV so they’d like me.

Ik a lot of people like to compare Frank and Jeff but I think Frank is way sweeter than Jeff ever was. Bro is a slightly cranky guy who goofs off w his coworkers and puts a lot into his friendships w them even if he likes to pretend he doesn't. Dude is a silly billy who just wants to be married.
Jeff was never even a silly goose. Sorry.

Fallin For You | Fred "Shred" Taylor
Tumblr media
Shred adjusted his Animal Control uniform for the third time that morning, glancing nervously at his partner, Frank, as they pulled up to yet another call.
“I’m telling you, this is your kind of case,” Frank grumbled, sipping his coffee. “A stray cat stuck in a tree? Perfect for Mr. Sunshine over here.”
Shred grinned. “Hey, cats love me. They can sense good vibes.”
Frank rolled his eyes. “Just try not to fall out of the tree this time, rookie.”
When they arrived, Shred spotted you—a concerned bystander pacing under the massive oak tree. Your hair was pulled into a messy ponytail, and you had an air of determination mixed with panic as you stared up into the branches.
“Thank goodness you’re here!” you said, rushing over. “There’s this little tabby stuck up there, and I think it’s scared of heights. I tried to climb up, but I slipped, and—”
Shred held up a hand, his trademark chill demeanor kicking in. “No worries. I’ve got this.”
He grabbed a ladder from the truck and set it up under the tree while Frank muttered to you, “This’ll be fun to watch.”
As Shred climbed, you stood at the base, wringing your hands. “Please be careful. That branch doesn’t look very stable.”
“It’s all good!” Shred called down, already halfway up. “I was a professional snowboarder once! I've got great balance!"
“Not sure that applies to trees,” Frank muttered, earning a glare from you.
Reaching the top, Shred slowly extended his hand toward the trembling tabby. “Hey, little buddy. No need to be scared. I’m like, the least scary person ever.”
The cat eyed him suspiciously, then hissed.
“Cool, cool,” Shred said, pulling his hand back slightly. “Boundaries. Respect.”
After a few more attempts and some coaxing, he managed to scoop up the cat, holding it gently against his chest. “Gotcha!”
Just as he was about to descend, the branch creaked ominously.
“Uh-oh,” Shred muttered, his chill facade cracking slightly.
The next thing you knew, the branch gave way, and Shred tumbled to the ground. Luckily, he landed in the grass with the cat still safely tucked in his arms.
You rushed over as Frank sighed. “Rookie.”
“Oh my gosh, are you okay?” you asked, kneeling beside Shred.
He looked up at you, a goofy smile on his face. “Totally fine. The branch broke my fall.”
You couldn’t help but laugh, shaking your head. “You’re unbelievable.”
Later that day, you showed up at the animal shelter where Shred had taken the cat for a checkup.
You walked up to the receptionist and smiled. "Hey I was just wondering if you would know-"
"Hey it's the tree lady again." Shred interrupted you, catching your attention.
“Hey,” you said shyly, not understanding why you felt warm. “I just wanted to say thanks again for helping out earlier. You were great. Even with the whole falling-out-of-a-tree thing.”
Shred laughed, scratching the back of his neck. “Thanks. I like to think of it as ‘adding flair.’”
You smiled, glancing at the cat, now curled up in a carrier. “So, what happens to her now?”
“Well, she’s up for adoption,” Shred said. “You thinking about taking her home?”
You hesitated. “I’d love to, but my apartment doesn’t allow pets. I just… I don’t know, I feel bad leaving her here.”
Shred tilted his head, studying you for a moment before grinning. “Tell you what—how about I keep an eye on her for now? That way, you can come visit anytime.”
Your eyes lit up. “Really? You’d do that?”
“Sure,” Shred said, leaning casually against the counter. “Anything for a fellow animal lover.”
Over the next few days, you found yourself stopping by the shelter more and more often—at first to check on the cat, but eventually just to see Shred.
One evening, as you were leaving, Shred caught your arm. “Hey, uh, I was wondering… would you maybe want to grab dinner sometime? You know, as a thank-you for saving the cat?”
You blinked, surprised. “Shouldn’t I be the one thanking you?”
He grinned. “Nah, this is my way of making sure you have an excuse to hang out with me.”
Your cheeks flushed, but you nodded. “Okay. Dinner sounds great.”
That Friday, Shred showed up at your door, holding a bouquet of wildflowers and looking slightly nervous.
“You didn’t have to bring flowers,” you said, touched.
“I figured cats like flowers,” Shred joked, then paused. “Wait, do they? Or is that dogs? Whatever. They’re for you.”
You giggled. "Thank you, I very much appreciate it."
Dinner turned into hours of laughter and conversation, and by the end of the night, you found yourself wondering how someone could be so sweet, funny, and genuine all at once.
As Shred walked you back to your door, he looked at you with his signature easygoing smile. “So, was that the best post-cat-rescue date you’ve ever been on?”
“The best,” you agreed, leaning up to kiss him softly.
And in that moment, Shred decided that falling out of a tree for you had been totally worth it.
