Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging
Ahhhh this book is so dorky! I read it a few years back and hadn’t touched it since. I’ve read all of the Princess Diaries novels and this one seems far more weird! I think it’s the cultural difference.
I first read this novel when a friend of mine from England told me I should read it. She said it was a dorky read but fun. I really liked it. This time around though, it seems to cheesy for some reason.
I can see early teens really relating to Georgia. They are in an age where experimenting with their looks and feeling like they’re older than they are. Georgia’s main love interest seems a bit wrong to me. Robbie is almost 18 and Georgia is 14. It’s not a huge age difference but at that age it is very significant. I’ve read other novels where the age difference is exactly that but it just seems like Georgia is younger than 14. I mean she shaves her eyebrows off. She’s a bit immature.
I do like the style that Louis Rennison brings to the novel. The young voice is very present. She does capture the thoughts of a lot of young girls who are dealing with their first love. I don’t believe that all 14 year old girls are that silly but some are.
It is a silly book that doesn’t really have too much of a message. I guess maybe the only message is don’t shave your eyebrows. That and don’t be mean to your friend just because she has a boyfriend and you don’t.
