You didnā€™t know how a simple conversation could turn so deadly. While you preferred a straight-front confrontation, Jimin preferred to ease it in. And it was over dinner that the argument sparked fire between the both of you. The room was charged with tension as the both of you stood at opposite ends of the room, voices raised in a much-heated argument. Anger and frustration swirled around you, sending you into a spiral and clouding your judgement.Ā
Stubborn as mules, the both of you refused to give in - each party believing that they were right for every reason possible. Logical you knew to let it go for now, take a breath, cool down, and then come back and talk. But you were angry and Jimin wasnā€™t making it any better.Ā
ā€œI canā€™t believe youā€™re being so unreasonable!ā€ Jiminļæ½ļæ½s voice was laced with frustration, his hands pulling at the roots of his hair, and brows furrowed in anger.Ā
ā€œAnd you arenā€™t even trying to understand it from my perspective!ā€ You shot back, voice quivering with hurt.Ā
As the argument escalated, the both of you shot back equally painful and harsh words. The weight in your chest turned heavier and heavier, like lead in your stomach. This wasnā€™t the Jimin you knew - the making understanding person that has always been there for you. This Jimin didnā€™t care for how deep and sharp his words turned as he shouted back at you. However, in the heat of the moment, your emotions took over and all rationality seemed to slip away.Ā
ā€œI would never - I didnā€™t even sleep with her!ā€ Jimin shouted. ā€œItā€™s just a picture for god sake! Grow up, Y/N!ā€Ā
He gave you an exasperated sigh, turning to leave the living room. Your anger reached its boiling point. If this was a cartoon show, your face would have turned red and fumes would have come out of your ears.Ā
ā€œGrow up?ā€ You shot back. ā€œGrow up? Jimin, you grow up! What makes you think that you can throw around the relationship like itā€™s soccer?ā€Ā
Jimin turned back around, fury burning in his eyes. ā€œYou know what? Maybe I did sleep with her! So what? So what if I slept with her? She sure is better than you!ā€Ā
The sentence sent spikes of hurt directly to your heart. At that moment, the tears started forming as you stayed silent and stared at your boyfriend. You never pegged him for being so mean. The adrenaline and emotions were still on high, causing you to feel more emotional.Ā
The silence that followed was deafening and you found yourself grabbing your keys, softly closing the main door behind you. No matter how angry, you were the one who brought this topic up. While you had the right to know what was going on, admittedly, you couldā€™ve done better at your phrasing of words as well.Ā
But as you walked down the street, your heart was still pounding and your thoughts in turmoil. You were hurt by what Jimin had said. Half of you know that he probably did not mean it but the other half of you was in pain at the thought that he truly - truly - cheated on you. You walked in circles at the nearby park until the sky slowly darkened.Ā
You didnā€™t want to go home yet, deciding to get yourself an ice cream cone on the way instead. It wasnā€™t until you were walking home, one hand tucked in the puffer jacket you stanched from the ottoman and the other holding the sweet treat, that you realised the magnitude of the situation - the bond between you and Jimin, sitting dormant for three years, had been strained. The both of you were so welled up in being the perfect match for each other that you forget the imperfections of each other as well.Ā
You knew that there was no running away from this situation - one way or the other, the both of you would have to face each other and have a talk. So with a determined sigh, you finished your cone and took lift up. You quickly typed in the passcode, shrugging off your coat and shoes, placing your keys in the dish Jimin made with the boys just last summer. You had thought it was too cute to be sitting in the cabinets, so you had taken it out to be used as a dish for the keys.Ā
You heard before you saw Jimin walking up to you, eyes red-rimmed and tired - a reflection of the emotional turmoil the both of you are going through.Ā
ā€œCanā€¦ Can we talk?ā€ You asked meekly, voice filled with vulnerability as you trained your eyes on the floor, missing the flash of pain as Jimin stared at you.Ā
Jimin hesitated before saying, ā€œYeah, letā€™sā€¦ letā€™s head over to the sofa. Or would you prefer somewhere else?ā€
You shook your head and the both of you walked together. The room felt heavy with the weight of the unspoken words.Ā
It was silent as the both of you stared at each other until Jimin broke it. ā€œIā€™m sorry for what I said. I swear I didnā€™t cheat. I swearā€¦ I swear nothing like that happened. It was - it was just in the heat of the momentā€¦ that I said that.ā€ Jiminā€™s voice and actions grew frantic as if trying to prove his point. ā€œI swear - Y/N, I swear I didnā€™t - I wouldnā€™t -ā€
You took a leap of faith and stepped forward, encasing him in your arms. You gently pushed his head into the crook of your neck as he sobbed. ā€œIā€™m sorry, Iā€™m sorry. I swear - Iā€™m so sorry. I didnā€™t mean it. I promise I didnā€™t! Itā€™s not true!ā€ Jimin wailed.
Your heart ached to see your boyfriend in such a miserable state. In the three years you were together, the both of you never had an argument this bad and you have never seen this side of him.Ā
Vulnerable and sobbing in your arms.Ā
You caressed his hair, soothing him. ā€œItā€™s fine, Jimin. I know you didnā€™t mean it. Iā€™m sorry too. I accused you without giving you a chance to explain the situation.ā€Ā
Jimin continued crying on your shoulder and you were starting to feel the ache from holding most of his body weight while standing. Slowly, you moved over to the sofa, setting the both of you down comfortably. Jiminā€™s hands immediately tightened as you moved away from him.Ā
ā€œPlease donā€™t go. Please donā€™t leave meā€¦ Please! Iā€™ll do anything to prove to you I didnā€™t. I swear I didnā€™t!ā€
You brought your hands up to the hysterical man, cupping his puffy cheeks between them. ā€œIā€™m not leaving. Iā€™m not leaving. Iā€™m just gonna grab some tissue, okay?ā€
Jimin shook his head. ā€œNoā€¦ Pleaseeeā€¦ā€Ā
You sighed and sat back down, allowing the oversized baby to cuddle deeper into the couch, dragging you along. You turned to face him, bringing your sleeves over your palms to wipe away his tears. ā€œIā€™m sorry I said those words too. Iā€™m sorry I hurt you.ā€
Jiminā€™s head didnā€™t leave your shoulder as he continued to nuzzle at your throat with a few occasional sniffles.Ā Ā
ā€œIā€™m sorry too. Shouldnā€™t have been so defensive.ā€ His voice was muffled.
You shook your head. ā€œYou had every right to. It was my fault for bringing it up like that and accusing you.ā€ You sighed. ā€œJiminā€¦ā€Ā
He hummed.
ā€œJimin, our relationship -ā€
ā€œNo, No, Iā€™m sorry. Iā€™m sorry!ā€ He clinged onto you.Ā
ā€œNot that Jimin.ā€ Your boyfriend had a way of overthinking the best situations into the worst so you could only imagine what he is thinking of now. ā€œJimin, I think we need to communicate more. We have been trying to be the best for each other but we forget that loving the other is loving them as a whole.ā€
ā€œWe keep so much from each other, not wanting the other to see the ā€˜bad sidesā€™. But Jimin, I love you for you. And I know I can be tough to keep up with, Iā€™m sorry.ā€
You hanged your head.Ā
Now, it was Jiminā€™s turn to bring your face to his, lips pressed against yours. ā€œI love you, wholly, Y/N. Iā€™m sorry if I donā€™t show that enough. And I think youā€™re right, we need to work on our communication. Itā€™s absolutely broken on completely different wavelengths.ā€
You giggled at his choice of words.Ā
ā€œYeahā€¦ We shouldā€™ve been on the same ā€˜wavelengthā€™ the moment you told me youā€™d adopt a dog for me if it made me less lonely at home.ā€Ā Ā
ā€œAish! Forget that already would you! Why do you always remember these cheesy stuff I told you!ā€ Jimin whined at you.Ā
The both of you sat together, cuddled up on the sofa, soaking in the presence of the other.Ā
ā€œOur bond means so much to me. I donā€™t want one fight to define us.ā€ You truthfully told Jimin as he held you closer, agreeing with your statement.Ā
ā€œWeā€™ll come out stronger.ā€ He promised.Ā
As the night deepened and the both of you got hungry, Jimin made you cup noodles, stealing some of yours after he finished his share. Starting a chopsticks fight, you very obviously lost, guard slipping every time he tickles you. At that very moment, looking into Jiminā€™s eyes and hearing his bright laughter beside you, you knew that this connection - this bond - was forever worth fighting for. You knew that the road ahead wasnā€™t going to be butterflies and flowers but you were willing to try.Ā
Willing to strip yourself bare and give him you. Every part of you, you would give it to him. Until the very last thing was your heart - youā€™d place it in his hands. And then, you have no worries that he would ever break it, holding it between you like glass. Taking his like a puzzle piece, the both of you weaved threads and loops, creating a picture future together.
