Prompt - "I'd do anything for you"

“You idiot”, Takeru said.

You didn’t say anything back. You just watched as Takeru bandaged your wounded. You were sitting on the couch as Takeru kneeled in front of you.

Surrounded by medical supplies.

Takeru was right now wrapping up your chest. There were bruises and cuts all over it. “Why?” Takeru asked for the fourth time.

Again you didn’t say anything. The reason that you were bloody and bruised, covered in blood and bandages.

It happened about an hour ago.

A Digimon had come through a Digital Gate and you and Takeru were the only ones free that could take care of it.

You two had got the Digimon back though the gate, but not at the expense of some injuries.

Takeru was in the way of some fallen debris, so you pushed him out of the way.

Takeru had also gotten hurt because of Digimon's attack. That pissed you off, you couldn’t save him from that.

That’s how you got like this. It wasn’t so bad that you had to go to the hospital, but Takeru insisted on taking you back to his house to patch you up.

You wanted to follow the Digimon through the Digital Gate, you wanted to destroy it.

It had hurt Takeru, his right arm had bandages wrapped around the top of it.

There was even a little blood seeping through the bandage. You started at it as Takeru wrapped up your chest.

“You call me an idiot yet you're the one who didn’t move even though you knew stuff was falling on top of you”, you quipped back.

Takeru rolled his eyes and stood up. “You could have gotten really hurt”, Takeru said sternly.

You picked up your shirt and put it back on, groaning at the pain that shot through your arms.

You leaned back on Takeru’s couch, your Digimon jumping on your lap.

You hugged them close to your chest. “Why?” Takeru asked again, starting to pick up everything.

You didn’t say anything, just watched as Takeru picked everything up. You knew that answer to that question.

It was because you cared about Takeru. You loved Takeru, you’d do anything for Takeru.

He was your best friend and you loved him. You didn’t want him to get hurt.

You’ve seen him get hurt many times in the past, not again. You would rather you get hurt than Takeru, you hated seeing him in pain.

You saw how Takeru fell on the ground clutching his arm as Angemon and your Digimon lead the Digimon through the gate. After you made sure Takeru was alright you wanted to follow the Digimon.

You wanted to get on D/n's back, go into the Digiworld, and get rid of it.

But Takeru had stopped you, you were so close but he told you to stay, that everything was fine. No, everything wasn’t fine, Takeru was hurt.

Something had to pay.

You didn’t care what happened to you, as long as Takeru was fine. You thought all of this as you watched Takeru clean up.

“Cause”, you stood up, taking your Digimon with you. Takeru looked at you waiting for your answer.

“I’d do anything for you”, you told Takeru.

Takeru blinks at you a few times. “Really?” Takeru asked, turning his body at you.

You could tell that Takeru was skeptical. His eyes showed that he didn’t believe you.

You stared into Takeru’s eyes. You felt something come over you, just the way Takeru looked. His hat ditched on the table, so you could see his messy blonde hair.

His blue eyes bored into yours with curiosity and worry. You felt protectiveness wash over you.

You glanced at Takeru’s upper arm, blood stained bandages and burns under it.

Your heart told you something, but you didn’t know what. What you did now was, “yes”, you answered, not a lie in your voice.

You’d do anything for Takeru. “Then stop putting yourself in danger, I would have been fine, Patamon would have gotten to me”, Takeru said.

Patamon made a noise of agreement from the arm of the couch. You could tell that Takeru was really worried about you.

You could see that he really thought you could have been hurt worse, or died.

You placed your Digimon down on the couch, right next to Patamon. You nodded and walked closer to Takeru, pulling him into a hug. You knew that Takeru cared about you, you were his best friend.

You’ve known him since before he first went to the Digiworld. “Okay”, you said.

You’d listen to Takeru.

He asked you to stop so you would stop, but something told you, maybe your heart, that you’d do it again.

You still wanted to destroy that Digimon, they deserved it. Nobody hurts Takeru, not if you had anything to say about it.

“I have to go”, you picked D/n back up, “my parents are probably worried”, Takeru nodded

A smile on his face. It reminded you that you’d do anything for that smile.

“Okay, see you tomorrow”, Takeru said, Patamon on top of his head waving goodbye.

You left Takeru’s apartment, with no intention of going back home.

“Are you sure you want me to do this”, Your Digimon asked.

They were at the champion level, on top of the passed out Digimon. The same one that had come though the Digital Gate.

You had found the Digimon eating in the clear, ordering your Digimon to attack.

They did, quickly getting on the ground, passed out. You started at it, they didn’t even care.

They didn’t apologize, didn't show remorse for what they did. “Yes, destroy it”, you said.

No emotion in your voice. Your Digimon turned back to the Digimon and attacked.

You watched with a smile as they screamed and turned to pieces. Back to being a Digiegg.

Your Digimon dedigivolved and ran back to you. “Can we go home, I’m hungry”, they said while rubbing their eyes.

You smiled down at them, “sure, I’m hungry too”, you turned around and started walking. They were gone now, they would never hurt Takeru again.

Maybe they can tell their friends what happens when anyone dares mess with who you love. You knew that if anyone knew you did this they would yell at you.

So you made D/n promise to keep it a secret. They said they would at the promise of chocolate. That was fine.

You knew what you did was wrong, but you didn’t care. They deserved it, they hurt Takeru. They should know now, everyone should know.

You’d do anything for Takeru.

okay, in order to get into that, we must back up a bit first.

the beginning of the video, with adult Takeru writing and talking to Patamon about it:

opening up with Takeru writing about their adventures.

okay, backing up even more, to "As I Type on the Keyboard" from the 'Digimon Adventure 02: Original Story, Spring 2003' Drama CD (translated into English by onkei), which addresses when and why Takeru first starts writing.

Then one day, my mother off-handedly said this: “Instead of me acting as the third-person messenger, the public will be more persuaded if they heard about it directly from you, the ones involved.” Then she went on to suggest that I should write a memorandum. She wasn’t being serious when she said this, so the conversation ended there. But I…. I haven’t told my mother yet… but I have already begun to write. I wanted to keep a record of our memories before they were forgotten. From the day when I first flew into the Digital World and met Patamon… towards everything we’ve experienced that I can remember. The things that the younger me had seen, heard, touched, and felt in my heart… There were things that I remember too vividly, and things that are fuzzy. There are also things that make me feel embarrassed upon re-thinking them. […] Really… when I remember those things now, my face turns bright red with embarrassment. I feel like digging myself into a hole. […] The part where Angemon fought Devimon on File Island and turned into an egg… is still left unwritten. It’s hard for me to re-live, but also… the feelings that overflowed in my heart that time, as though it had been cut to shreds… Knowing how to write about it, or even describe it, is beyond me at the moment. [chuckle] I also have problems with writing itself. I feel as though I should personally settle this mess of feelings within me first. in a way, writing about their adventures is kind of like, a therapeutic way to process his emotions and trauma -- among other things!! it's not JUST that. he wants to record the things that happened and remember them bc he was very young for the first adventure. but, to me, i definitely interpret part of it like that. i'm not explaining it well i think but yeah.

but also!! that part about struggling and not being ready yet to write about losing Angemon (ive written before, but maybe not on tumblr, abt how Takeru is affected by that trauma in s1 & 02, and the difference in how it affects him in the two seasons) ----

specifically the "I feel as though I should personally settle this mess of feelings within me first. / That’s why… for this part alone… until I’ve become more of an adult…" part.

Takeru (& Patamon) heading into what resembles the Dark Ocean, happy/pleasant and not concerned, may represent Takeru finally being able to 'settle [that] mess of feelings', the dark, traumatic feelings he barely knew even still affected him in 02 --

-- I've written before about how i interpret Takeru in 02 as not being aware at how unintentionally closed off/withdrawn about personal deep feelings he actually is, until the stuff with Iori brings it to his intention. in a way, he's similar to Hikari in that he keeps a lot of 'true feelings' inside etc, Hikari is entirely super self-aware that she does this and Takeru is the opposite & has no idea until later on. i'm afraid im rambling ---

-- BASICALLY, that Takeru may finally be in a place where he can go deep into those feelings and face them, for lack of better words. that's he finally ready to tackle writing about it and how he feels about it

i don't even know if that's what is intended here, but i love that i can read into it like that, even if i'm reading too into it. if you weren't aware, i'm constantly reading into Takeru so much.

Even though digivolution is free and all that, I always prefer a line to have as much cohesion as possible. It has always bugged the everloving shit out of me that Armadimon turns into not only an ankylosaurus as its dedicated Adult stage, but the worst-looking ankylosaurus ever that doesn't even fit in visually with other dinosaur digimon. Ankylomon just completely sucks. I hate everything about it. The entire Armadimon line is a complete mess. Then it goes from Ankylomon to Shakkoumon who breaks the whole design ethos that Paildramon and Silphymon established for jogress evolutions. And then it goes into Vikemon who retains nothing of what any previous form had going. I guess you could draw a line between Vikemon's maces and Ankylomon's tail, but the worst part is that Vikemon went on to be canonized as Gomamon's Ultimate stage. So what the fuck happens now, unless we're allowing dupes? The 02 movie would have been an amazing opportunity to give Armadimon, Hawkmon, V-mon, and Wormmon "real" lines. But based on the images and promos I've seen, that doesn't happen.

I went on a drunken tirade about this a while back where I conceptualized an entirely new line for Armadimon. IMO there needs to be more mammalian digimon that aren't armor stages. Something like a pangolin, a giant anteater, an aarvark, a mole... If Drimogemon had a slightly different design it would be perfect as an Armadimon evo. If Rhinomon and Elephantmon weren't armors, those would work too. But there's no need to overthink it, just make Armadimon bigger and bulkier like they did for Hawkmon and V-mon, just without randomly changing its entire biological Class. Make it a glyptodont. It could even retain the spiked mace tail. Also, food for thought: we have an AncientMegatheriummon but no Megatheriummon and a digimon based on a megatherium would also be a great fit for what I'm imagining. But picture this: Armadimon evolves into a Glyptodont, which jogresses with Angemon into a masked druid-like holy man wearing the glyptodon's shell as a mantle and carrying the glyptodon's tail as a weapon. And then it could become Vikemon, or Olegmon, or ClavisAngemon, or Mercurymon...take your pick, honestly.

Blizzarmon and Olegmon would fit well as a Perfect and Ultimate, but there's no good Adult to bridge Armadimon into them.

Cannondramon kind of has a flow from Armadimon and Ankylomon, but if you make it a line of dinosaurs, then Armadimon itself is the weakest link and that makes the whole idea fall apart.

Digital Monster Color designs

I'm in a very boring uni class rn soo I'm gonna rank the Digital Monster Color designs.

Okay soo these are the categories in every version:

-Peak: what I think is the best design in the device.

-Love:my actual favorite design of the device.

-Honorable mentions(HM):3 of what I believe to be very good designs.

-Eghhhh:what I think is the worst design of the device, if I don't have one, it will be my least favorite.

Any other digimon outside of this categories is in a scale of Good to eeeehhh it's fine.

Okay, everything except HM will have some explanation, I will prioritize the '97 designs and this will be me in the order of best to worse device.

Ver.2

-Peak:Cres Garurumon,yeah I know what I said about 97, I explain it the overview. That aside, I usually prefer the gabus lines, and that artwork is just *chef kiss*. Sprite is meh, tho.

-Love:Gabumon , okay it's more about the "lost child energy" of the artwork more that the sprite, but I really love this little fella.

-HM:SkullGreymon, Angemon, Kabuterimon

-Eghhhh: Vademon, tbh I don't quite get Vademon as a design,just probably my least favorite evo of a mistake evo of any version. Vegimon and Ebemon are cool, tho.

Overview: The thing about the ver.2 devices is that I think is a very solid roster in general, so I find it very hard to pick favorites.Also it has very funny sprites tho, like those of Yukidarumon, Whamon, Vegiemon,and MetalMamemon.

Ver.4

-Peak:Megadramon, like just look at it, it's a dragon serpent with wings and cannons for arms.It's the definition of peak.Also sprite is very good.

-Love:BloomLordmon, I just really like this design,I think is a very good interpretation of "Plant knight" also the helmet that looks like a pirate hat is funny.

-HM:Digitamamon, Monochromon, Coelamon.

-Eghhhh:Nanimon, okay if Vademon was my least favorite evo of a mistake evo, this is my actual least favorite mistake evo. I know it's a tamagotchi, but maan that artwork is gross. Sprite is meh.

Overview:Another really solid roster, the only thing I don't like about it is nanimon, especially when you have to go through it to get a good design, Digitamamon. Also, Bandai's choice of making Genkoomon the digitamamon evo just baffles me.

Ver.1

-Peak:Metalgreymon, virus Metalgreymon is one of the best digimon designs in general,so I'm very glad it is in this device and not the vaccine version.

-Love:Tyranomon, hands down, Tyranomon is my favorite design of all time, like just look at him, he's just a jolly and friendly tyrannosaurus rex, it's the best.

-HM:Devimon,Betamon,BanchoMamemon.

-Eghhhh:tbh,I don't really have a digimon I don't like that much in this device,soo I'm going to say Omegamon Alter S. just beacuse I'm tired of Omegamonn, even tho Alter S. is one of the best Omegamon designs.

Overview: the Ver.1 is also really solid, but in my personal opinion has a problem in which that the adults are really "adjacent?",like Tyranomon, Greymon, Meramon, Airdramon and Devimon I feel they have like some relation to fire, even tho they aren't fire digimon half of them. Tyranomon and Greymon are actual fire dinosaurs, Meramon in straight up a fire man, Devimon is a devil soo is kinda connected, and Airdramon is dragon-like with those red wings,so it seems like is fire related.That aside, the childs, perfects and megas are really solid.

Ver.3

-Peak:Orgemon, the Ver.3 context is somewhat dire,soo I guess Orgemon is fine,I like the Orc + Oni design.

-Love:Drimogemon, okay I don't like it quite as much, but in the Ver.3 context is probably my favorite, even tho is probably because his face looks like a butt xD.

-HM:Centalmon, Giromon, Patamon

-Eghhhh:Chimariamon, look I get what's trying to do, I don't think the idea is executed as best as it could.

Overview:First of all, the lines are a mess. Not like in "this makes no sense as an evolution", a mess in the sense as to why there is an extra digimon out of nowhere.Second, this device is full of digimons I don't feel anything about them as a group.Like, Bokomon, Centalmon, Giromon, Andromon are fine in it's own, but not all in the same device.Also there's the digimon I don't care about at all, like Shellmon, Unimon, Kunemon, and so on.

Ver.5

-Peak:Mugendramon, tbh I think this is also one of the best digimon designs in general, but is held back for the things I'm going to explain in dept on the overview

-Love:Ex-Tyranomon, plushie Tyranomon, next. (Also Bandai you cowards, make an actual Tyranomon plushie).

-HM:Devidramon, Dark Tyranomon, Chaosdramon

-Eghhhh:Flymon, I had to pick one, I will go on detail in the overview.

Overview: Let's talk about the elephant in the room, this device has a serious case of awful sprites. Like,some of the designs are more of less good, but the sprites held them back. By example , for some reason, MetalTyranomon cables seem like veins, making it kinda creepy. Aaaand there are the weird ugly designs even in artwork, both Childs are whack; Cyclomon, Flymon, Tuskmon, Deltamon, Raremon are whack; Nanomon is meh. The tragedy of this version is that the perfect onwards stuff is fine-cool, but everything else is pretty bad.

...Well now I gave to ask about Shalconimon. Tell me more?

Shalconimon was my childhood fan digimon. I had been a digimon fan since about when the toy town episode first aired in the usa and that was only because despite seeing the ad for "the show that is like Pokemon but they're DIGITAL MONSTER" I couldn't remember what channel it was suppossed to be airing on so I missed a good chunk of the initial airings of the first arc. I had immediately fell in love with the franchise and wondered "If I had a digimon, what one would it be?"

I didn't have internet at the time, but my grandparents did and I would try to find pictures of what other digimon existed that maybe weren't in the show when I would visit them, or if a classmate had the old cardgame I would ask if I could look at their cards so I could just know what digimon existed to be options for!

I was (and am) an indecisive child tho so I never could just point at one and say "Obviously THAT would be my digimon!' Unlike say, my older sister who took one look at he Pink Gabumon running around Gear Savanah in Digimon World and said "ah yes. Psychemon. There is my partner." (Though in modern times she's a big fan of Labramon)

It wasn't until the day that the finale to Adventure 02 aired, and right after it ended the trailer for Tamers aired; "I used to watch show show... I used to play the cardgame... I even made up my very own digimon! But now.... everything is real." (don't remember if that's how the trailer went) Just with the line " I made up my very own digimon, my dumb ass was like "Wait.... I can make up original fancharacters for things?????" And with that I went to work desigining my very own digimon!

I have always been a huge fan of dinosaurs and I always thought the dinosaur digimon where some of the coolest! The Triceratops were always my favorite (Though I like a LOT of dinos) and although Monochromon and Triceramon already existed I wanted my own Triceratops in my favorite color! (HOW DARE GAMMAMON bE like FIVE CERATOPSIANS IN A TRENCH COAT!!!!) I remember as a kid I could only draw him from the side as ya do, but no art from that era remains.

I remember me and my sister writing our own digital world adventures with our made up digimon and I can't remember really what they were about, but I think Shalconimon was intended to be... kinda an asshole? Like imagine instead of the usual Digimon/Tamer partnership where they almost immediately get along you had more like something from early Medabots where Ikki and Medabee were at each other's throats, or what if Hiro from Ghost Game had gotten Espimon as his partner from the start instead of Gammamon and Espimon just didn't like to listen? At the time with only Adventure and 02 out, and Tamers only having barely started airing the idea of that kind of partnership seemed novel and unique, and maybe inside my baby author brain, just maybe the idea of "Starting off on the wrong foot and having room to grow" sounded narratively satisfying?

About half a decade ago when I revisted him I redesigned him a bit. He was a little over designed from the beginning and decided to upgrade Shalconimon to a Champion Level digimon. Shalconimon was originally the rookie form. I don't remember giving him a Baby I, Champion, or Ultimate but he did have a stupidly conceived Mega that I now call PajamaAngemon because that is exactly what he looked like. Angemon in Pajamas... god why did I give him an angemon form that was so stupid? Anyway after his level promotion he ended up getting a new rookie who... doesn't have a 'mon' name? I just call it the Protocerakeet, because it looks like a fusion of a protoceratops and a Parakeet.

Somewhere in the mid 2010's, I think it was around 2014 or 2015, I had been feeling bummed at the lack of digimon world vpet rpg style games to scratch a digimon world itch, considering World for the ps1 was getting on 15-20 years old and the newest game in that style was Re:Digitize that STILL to this day doesn't have an official English release. I didn't know Next 0rder was in the works, so it just felt like Vpet Rpgs were just... not being made and if they were not being ported over. There had been a rise in games in the indie scene creating spiritual successors to games that the dev had loved growing up but the mainstream and AAA scenes just don't develope anymore and so I had started thinking up two potential game ideas that where intended to have that vpet rpg feel. One was about Cryptids, but it evolved into something less vpet rpg-ish and into a more LoZMajora's Mask/ Stardew Valley calendar based resource time management game. The other was about some kids finding themselves isekai'd to NOT!File Island to help NOT!Jijimon return NOT!Digimon back to NOT!File City while stopping one of the only other humans on the island, NOT!Analogman. So the second one was more of a scratch the serial numbers off Digimon world Clone, replacing Digital Monsters with Monster's based on Extinct Species. The Protocerakeet lives there as that idea's mascot/NOT!Agumon.

Finished my rewatch Digimon Frontier!

This one I wasn’t as nostalgic for as the previous 3 series since I stopped watching after Tamers when I was a kid. The whole “turning into Digimon” wasn’t my thing. When I first watched it in like 2012 I went “it’s all right-HOLY SHIT CRISPIN FREEMAN��S IN THIS?!”

Now with my second rewatch under my belt, I’ll say it’s more organized than 02, but not as structured as Tamers. More thoughts below:

Aside from the barcodes and familiar ‘mons, there isn’t a lot to do with computers or programs in this adaptation. Main transportation by trains that are also Digimon along with how the Spirits work made me think. “Ooh, neat kids’ adventure show…but not entirely Digimon in the concept.” But then I remembered Survive exists, so I’m just a semantic pedantic there

Favorite parts were definitely the Duskmon encounters, especially when he started fighting Koji. It makes me sad that there weren’t other elemental fights that made good parallels. I guess we got that with Kazemon and Ranamon, but that was more “oh hey, girls. Let’s have them have a beauty contest and fanclubs to fight for their affection”. Like, we could have them combine to make tsunamis!

Actually, it would’ve been neat to see the kids transform into the Legendary Warriors that they scanned/purified. Or have their elements combined for new fusion Spirit Evolutions. Or have the 4 kids that Angemon took care of obtain the remaining Spirits. Huh. 🤔

I also like that there was buildup for the bad guys, and Lucemon had more than 2 episodes unlike MaloMyotismon! Wow!! I would’ve loved to see more Royal Knights fighting for him instead of the 2 that always showed up.

…Basically fights got kind of repetitive with just Takuya and Koji taking the spotlight. I would’ve liked more variety, like the snowball catapult or more enemies to face once Cherubimon was purified.

It also felt like it was hitting somewhat similar beats to the original Adventure series with Takuya and Koji totally not being Tai and Matt. Certainly not having an Omnimon fusion moment with their strongest forms that was one half Greymon and one half Garurumon. Couldn’t be. Don’t be silly.

I think I also got spoiled by Tamers making everything relevant. I was going “oh is Neemon going to do anything? No? Just be comedic relief? …Well that’s disappointing.” At least Bokumon was the necessary exposition dump and helped take care of Seraphimon.

Speaking of, aw I loved seeing the reborn trio playing together. I would’ve loved to see more

Right now rankings are Adventure > Tamers > Frontier > 02. Were I bolder, I’d force myself to watch through Tri, Kizuna, and Last Evolution and rank them buuuuuuuut naaaaaaah don’t wanna

Tournament post again!

My battle was actually supposed to take place yesterday, however, due to some personal problems my opponent had, we had to delay it to today at 14:00. Thanks to this delay however, I only got to know my opponent's username, and not their Digimon, who I learned were Metallife Kuwagamon and Grademon just about 20 minutes before the battle.

The battle began with Grademon rapidly charging towards Helloogarmon, trying to slash him with his Souken Grandalpha, this attack being stopped by Helloogarmon's claws, and then being fully repelled by Stiffilmon, after Grademon took the initiative, Stiffilmon to charge against them too, being stopped by Metallife Kuwagamon and another sword-based move, the Emit Blade, this opponent is a fan of sword based moves after realizing this, I knew what I had to do. After asking for a little pause, I asked the judge if I could use the Vánagandr, he agreed since I had already stated in my application and proved that there's not a huge power gap between Helloogarmon and Soloogarmon, I got the authorization, so I asked Helloogarmon to slide evolve into Soloogarmon, and then the battle continued. With the two of my Digimon being able to fight hand to hand, and both using "swords", the fight was way more even, tho Grademon was still dominating, with its twin swords, ultimately making it a fight between him and both of my Digimon, leaving Metallife Kuwagamon as a support to make back up damage with the Homing Laser, constantly directing it to my Digimon's backs while Grademon attacked with the Cross Blade, however, something happened in the middle of the fight, while Grademon was attacking Soloogarmon, he started to lose control, trying to attack aggressively, this is due to the curse that is embedded into the Souken Grandalpha, that can make him lose control if it's not properly controlled during a fight, so we had to, yet again, try to stop a mad digimon during a tournament, but this time, it was Helloogarmon who stopped it, I asked Soloogarmon to change into Helloogarmon and use the Hati Embrace to immobilize Grademon, and then a referee used her Marin Angemon to calm Grademon down.

My opponent excused his Digimon's behavior, and was asked to change Grademon with another Digimon, but he refused, the admins threatened with kicking him out, since Grademon could've badly hurt my Digimon, but I asked the admins to let him finish the fight with Grademon, since I already have experience with this kind of incidents, they ultimately agreed under the condition that I'd have to take the responsibility along with my opponent if anything happened, we agreed, and the battle went on.

Grademon got into the battlefield again and the battle quickly heated again, Grademon targeted Soloogarmon who got back into his bipedal form after the opponent was controlled, and fought in a way that leads me to think that he sees Soloogarmon as a worthy adversary, meanwhile, Stiffilmon was avoiding Metallife Kuwagamon's Homing Lasers, and quickly attacking with the Vermillion Vortex, the battle more often than not, was an endurance test on both sides, who could bare more sword strikes and who could attack faster.

The struggle between the four Digimon ended up in two separate fights, so it was pretty hard to both follow and order what to do, but in the end Stiffilmon ended up winning against Metallife Kuwagamon due to the speed charge provided by the Giga Crimson Dive, and after Metallife got K.O'd, Stiffilmon got in the middle of the fight between Grademon and Soloogarmon, but was easily taken down by the mad Grademon, who tried to finish up Soloogar with the Grade Slash, that was rapidly responded with the impulse of the Skröll Rage, ultimately giving us the win.

The fight was pretty exciting! Tho I gotta admit that I got kinda overstimulated thanks to the division between digimon, however, I'm glad everything turned great in the end, tho I'm still worried about Grademon, so I decided that the best course of action would be helping it's Tamer, so I gave him a control program similar to that I have equipped on Helloogarmon, he'll have time to equip it himself, im sure. I actually have no idea when my next fight will be, but be sure I'll keep you updated about it!

Prompt - Nightmares

Takeru stood up and paced around for a few minutes.

Just to sit back down after a few minutes. It was fine, everything was fine, you were fine.

You had forgotten something that you needed to make dinner so you ran out to get it.

Takeru doesn’t even remember what it was.

Just something that was really important, how you forgot it, Takeru doesn’t know. All he did know was that you were taking a pretty long time.

You were just going to the corner shop just a block away from the apartment.

You said it would only take five minutes. It has been ten minutes since you’ve left.

Takeru was nervous.

What if something happened? What if you were hurt? What if a Digimon had managed to come to the real world.

Your digimon was asleep on the couch, you wouldn’t be able to defend yourself.

What if you somehow traveled into the digital world? What if? “Takeru?” Patamon said.

Sitting next to Takeru, watching him panic with a look of concern on their face.

Takeru looked over at Patamon and picked them up. Sitting them in his lap and petting them.

Patamon smiled, closing their eyes and rubbing against Takeru’s hand.

Though after a few seconds Patamon opened their eyes and looked at Takeru.

“Are you okay?” Patamon asked. Takeru looked up, he was still petting Patamon.

Needing to do something with his hands, previously picking at his nails.

He knew you were fine, you probably just couldn’t find what you needed.

Maybe you had to go a few more blocks down to another shop. Yet he couldn’t shake the feeling of dread that pooled in his stomach and heart.

He was worried that something had happened and that he couldn’t do anything about it. It didn’t help that he’s felt like this since this morning.

Takeru looked back down and held Patamon close to his chest.

Patamon closed their eyes and grabbed onto Takeru’s shirt with his claws, snuggling into Takeru’s chest.

Takeru had a nightmare, nothing new, the nightmare wasn’t anything new either.

It was when Patamon digivolved to Angemon for the first time and defeated Devimon, sacrificing themselves in the process. Even though it’s been years it never went away.

The pain and sadness that flooded Takeru when he was young never really went away. The feeling like he couldn't do anything.

How he was helpless to help his own partner.

Though he was older, and able to process it more. He knew why Patamon did what they did, still.

The feeling, the memory of the scared little boy that Takeru was when he first went to the Digital World. That never left, it probably would never leave.

Ever since he woke up this morning he couldn’t shake the feeling of dread, that he was going to lose someone he loved and there was nothing he could do about it, and this time.

He might not get them back.

He couldn't let it happen again, he had to do something. He couldn't do nothing again, if you were hurt he needed to help.

He couldn't watch helplessly as someone he loved died.

“Keru?” Takeru looked up to see you standing behind the partly opened door.

Patamon jumped out of Takeru’s arms and started playing with your digimon.

“Y/n, your back”, Takeru said, standing up with a bright smile on his face.

“Yeah, sorry it took so long. I got caught up”, you said as you walked into the room and shut the door behind you.

“Is everything alright? You looked sad when I walked in, you were also caught up in your thoughts. Didn’t even hear me when I called I was home”, you said.

Walking close to Takeru till you were standing in front of him. Takeru looked away, face falling a little. “Yeah, you were just a little late”, Takeru said.

“I was five minutes late, what's wrong?” You said, arms now crossed over your chest.

Takeru sighed, he didn’t think lying would work. You knew him too well for that.

“I was scared”, Takeru said. Looking towards Patamon and your Digimon.

They were rough housing on the floor. It made Takeru smile, everything was fine now.

His loved ones weren’t putting themselves on the line almost everyday to save the world.

Yet, the feeling would never leave. “I was scared something happened, that you might have been hurt”, Takeru said, hands picking at his skin and feet moving back and forth.

You reached forward and grabbed Takeru’s hands and held them in yours.

“Well, I’m fine as you can see. But, where did this come from?” You asked, rubbing your thumbs over Takeru’s hands to comfort him.

“I had a nightmare. Back when Patamon defeated Devimon”, Takeru said.

That caught Patamon’s attention. Patamon stopped playing with your digimon and flew over to sit on Takeru’s head.

In an effort to comfort Takeru, and it worked. Takeru felt a little better but he was still a little scared. You let go of Takeru’s hands and pulled him into a hug.

“Why didn’t you tell me you had a nightmare?”

You asked, rubbing your hand up and down Takeru’s back. Takeru wrapped his arms around your neck and laid his head on your shoulder.

“I’ve had it so many times that I guess it didn’t click in my mind to tell you”, Takeru said.

You frowned, “well tell me, every time you have a nightmare tell me. Please?” You asked and Takeru nodded, “okay, I will”, Takeru said.

“Also, it’s okay”, you said. Takeru removed his head from your shoulder. Brows furrowed, “what’s okay?” Takeru asked.

“It’s okay that you were worried”, you said. You leaned forward and kissed Takeru’s forehead.

“Next time give me a call, and I’ll tell you all about the cool food I find and get distracted by”, you said.

Takeru laughed, “that’s why you were late?” Takeru asked with a smile, trying to hold back his laughter. “Yes, wait”, you let go of Takeru and ran out of the room.

Takeru laughed a bit till you came back holding a bag of chips. “Look at these”, you said before tossing them to Takeru. Takeru shook his head, “really?”

He asked, holding the bag up with his hand. “That’s not all”, you said before running back out. Takeru shook his head, guess you really were fine.

Takeru walked out of the bedroom to see you digging though a bag with a smile on your face. Takeru leaned against the counter with a smile.

You were right here, Takeru could see you and you were fine. Nothing happened to you.

Everything was fine, though next time. Takeru will take your advice, he’ll tell you about his nightmares.

Though, maybe he won’t give you a call so he could hear about the weird food you find.

Very Random AU about Digimon, because it's like Tumblr and YouTube want me to go re-watch everything after so long.

And all I have to offer is: Digi-Swap TK and Kari

Like, I wanna swap their digimon partners, mainly because I think I'd be funny and because of a very random revelation I have.

One thing I never got is how different Angemon and Angewomon were to their previous transformations - Like okay, I can accept them being angel like guardians to the two youngest but still.

Patamon had this cinnamon and more cutesy feel to him - or better yet, a more put together look while still being a bit shy; So to then see Angemon, who looks worn and ragged tbh - it was startling.

Same with Angewomon - even with the tears in her outfit, it felt too put together; Not all at all ally cat or even jaded, considering her whole story. She felt a lot more put together and lost all of that jaddedness for me.

My running headcanon is that these state kinda reflect their respective digidestines and thus - makes it so it reflects their current state of mind.

And thus, I say, switch their Digimons and see how it goes.

Like with TK - Angewomon could keep some of her previous facets; Her hair could be longer and this mimick a cats tail, she could have a gauntlet that looks like claws or boots that mimick retractable claws - let her wear a torn tunic, bandages on her arms/legs and worn Armour to reflect that jaded and older vibe she had. Dents in the helmet could make a cat hear shape - Her bow can plit and become twin tantos or twin Sai's.

With Kari - Angemon could look more like a Cleric - with a baby blue main theme color, a scepter with magic. Give this man a full blown tunic, give him tiny wings on his helmet to match his shoes - give him fluffier wings and let the wings on his head be semi-transparent to go for a halo look.

Besides, it'd be funny for 02 - because TK could have still bonded and become great friends with Patamon; While Kari is great friends with Gatomon - and they could work together as a full unit. Whether it be with one digimon or another, they'd be badass.

That and imagine the running gag that no one can tell who's who's child or digimon.

Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01 - Disc 5

This volume is called "The legendary power of the digimental," so I guess we'll be getting an armor evolve? Also...what the heck is Taichi wearing on the cover. Looks kinda silly...

Ch. 29

-We get a Taichi-free chapter where it's Leomon's turn to shine! Of course he dies, because Leomon always dies lol. I felt bad for the baby digimon who lost their mentor :'c

Ch. 30

-Oh oops, I guess Leomon wasn't dead. Coulda fooled me! This time it was HolyAngemon/Seraphimon's time to shine. I thought it was interesting how HolyAngemon digivolved by removing his "seal." That's a new one.

-The "Super Ultimate" digivolution is confusing since "Ultimate" means something different in dub vs. sub of the anime. I guess they're going for the Japanese version where ultimate is usually the final digivolution.

-Seraphimon unleashes his attack!

(Does anyone else remember that show? I never watched it but it used to be on all the time lol).

Ch. 31

-They did the whole "this is my REAL body" thing with Venom Vamdemon. Still one of my least favorite digimon designs. It felt a little anti-climactic that Zero ended the whole thing in one blow, especially after Leomon and Holy Angemon struggled. Kinda sus power-levels there.

-They reveal that Neo needs to find a digimental to get Arkadimon to "super ultimate," which threw me off. I thought Arkadimon was a special, artificially created digimon that was special BECAUSE it could reach super ultimate. Now they're saying that any digimon can reach super ultimate via a digimental? Okaaaay...

-Hideto enters the scene with his Omegamon. Another digimon that feels weird to be partnered with a tamer. It also feels weird to demote these boss-level digimon to mid-bosses. Kinda makes them feel less impressive.

-Never heard the name "Hideto" before, but a quick Google suggests it's normal...sounds kinda weird to me.

Ch. 32

-So I uh...literally got spoiled about the siblings twist right before I read this chapter because I looked something up in the wiki and saw Rei's last name. D'oh! I guess it's not that shocking when we know next to nothing about her anyways...

-I found it kind of interesting how the gang question if they're on the right side or not since Omegamon is supposed to be "a force for justice." It's a little annoying that this franchise keeps flip-flopping on whether some digimon are just innately good or not. They also kind of implied that Omegamon being a vaccine digimon means he's good too...I just want some consistency.

Ch. 33

-So we get Hideto's backstory in the chapter. The fact that the first 2 Alias characters were all quirky and he's just some normal, cool guy tells me he'll be a little more fleshed out.

-They really thought "Warg" and "Melga" were good names for Digimon (I get that it's from WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon but still...I guess everything sounds better in Japanese).

-So Neo's main motivation for taking over the digital world is to cure his sister's paraplegia? Uhhh...pretty sure wheelchair bound people still live very fulfilling lives, so that's weak.

Ch. 34

-A very interesting explanation of how digimons' lifespans work. Essentially, digimon express themselves by rapidly overwriting their data and digimon that process these overwrites at a faster rate have the downside of have a shorter lifespan. They used the analogy of how overwriting DVDs/CDs can degrade them. The part that threw me off is that Hideto was like "that's right, Zero has a short lifespan, meaning he can't digivolve any further." I thought they meant short lifespan as-in, he'll die soon, not a digivolution limitation? (Do digimon die of old age in this universe?)

-I like that Hideto seems to have some compassion while battling and tries to get Taichi to give up. He's a nice contrast to Neo who's always in crazy villain mode.

This volume felt really short and like not too much happened, just a bunch of battles with some backstory peppered in. It seems like the whole Neo Saiba thing won't go on for 4 more volumes, so I wonder where the story will go after his defeat? Maybe Demon would be next? I honestly keep forgetting about him because he never shows up lol.

P.S. I still don't know what Taichi's wearing on the cover lol

Ok this is a personal irrational fear of mine that could be exploited with digimons: imagine a patamon that his female tamer treated as a pet in the sense of seen him as a little boy that you hug, you dress up and kiss and baby and you aren't afraid to walk around naked in front of because that is a pet right, no thought head empty boy right. Imagine patamon evolving into an angemon and then his tamer having a full on crisis cause that is a MAN, a TAXPAYER that has seen me NAKED MULTIPLE TIMES. Bonus points: angemon doesn't see the problem.

A female Tamer with a Patamon she treated more like a pet until he Digivolved into Angemon

It can be easy to look at little Patamon and think him just an adorable little pet. Just a fun little guy to have around. Nothing more, he is basically a flying guinea pig, and he's adorable! Of course, with that thought in mind, the Tamer didn't think much above him just... being a little guy who could speak and do things with ease that obviously other pets didn't do.

Patamon doesn't even mind the baby-ing, as a matter of fact, he highly enjoys it! He loves being dressed-up and hugged and kissed and everything his Tamer deals to him. He never questioned when she was nude, guessing it was just something humans did sometime. He never questioned it and quickly became desensitized to it all and acted as everything was fine.

A Rookie Level does eventually Digivolve, him mostly because he thought someone was trying to break into the house/apartment while they both were sitting together and he jumped into protective mode immediately. Much to the surprise of his Tamer, who now saw he was... a got damn ANGEL. A WHOLE ASS M A N. THAT IS A HUMAN(angel) PERSON.

Of course it's going to cause a crisis for her! He could do that the whole time, and she didn't know about it until NOW. She had been nAKED in-front of him! And now that he was... BIG and STRONG and HUMAN -- with wings but sTILL -- it was making mixed feelings appear no doubt about it.

Angemon, on the other hand, genuinely sees no issue as to why she's freaking out over it all. Mostly because he'd seen er naked so many times at this point that the thought doesn't strike much in him. Given, he is a little bit embarrassed now, mostly because of how she was acting now... But he still wasn't quite sure the whole problem.

Even if he turned back into Patamon, the poor Tamer is left with such a crisis in hand... Can she still go about the same way after figuring out her little baby could turn into a whole ass human person?? It was just weird now... She'd still baby Patamon, since he was just a little guy still, but perhaps... no more being able to walk around without clothes...

I'm day drinking and watching a youtuber talk about digimon so I have thoughts. The armor evolutions. They needed to be a little more cohesive. Like, okay, why is Thunderbirmon not Hawkmon plus the digimental of friendship? Rinkmon is cool, but you would think that would be Patamon since it's a guy in a mask like Angemon is. I really liked the example Flamedramon and Raidramon and Holsmon set for an armor evolution being the base digimon "stretched out" and wearing the digimental as armor. Pegasmon is a great armor form for Patamon, maybe even the platonic ideal, but I like the concept of other armor evos for it being pseudo-Angemons the way Flamedramon is a Pseudo-XVeemon. And also the way Shadramon is a pseudo-Stingmon. Because while I think all of the armors should follow Veemon's formula, I also love the idea of Wormmon metamorphosing instead of its armors still being grubs.

Basically, the armors should have followed either of those two paths- the child stage beefed up or a loose imitation of the child's Adult stage. And in either case they must echo the original crest bearer's Adult digimon, because the digimentals should have cohesive themes. Thunderbirmon would have followed that to a T for Hawkmon + friendship. But the friendship armors are all over the damn place. Some are ice themed, some are electric themed, and some just have blades on them. It's a far cry from courage making dinosaurs and/or fire (mostly), knowledge making insects, and reliability making aquatic creatures. And the very notion of Gabumon armor evolving with the digimental of friendship- ITS OWN CREST- into Kenkimon- a fucking construction robot- doesn't even start to make sense. It angers me.

Also awful is Armadimon's....everything. I like Digmon and Submarimon, but there's not cohesion outside of those two. Those armor forms don't match Armadimon, they don't match Ankylomon, they're the most "out there" when it comes to the digimental's themes/referencing the 01 partners, and as a matter of fact I'm not that keen about Armadimon's natural evolutions either. Armadimon and Ankylomon are connected as animals with tough shells, but it's nowhere near as clean as Hawkmon evolving into a larger bird or Veemon evolving into a larger blue dragon or Wormmon evolving into an adult insect. Then Shakkoumon is a fusion of Angemon's holyness and Ankylomon's shell, I get that much, but it looks nothing like its constituents. Especially next to Paildramon and Silphymon. And because the jogresses are all the 02 partners got for Perfect stages, Ankylomon is orphaned once you take that away and no other Perfect stage looks appropriate for it. I mean, Aquilamon, XVeemon, and Stingmon can fit nicely outside of their intended lines, but Ankylomon just doesn't fit with anything else. Its weird design makes it stand out from other dinosaur digimon and I already don't like that the armadillo turns into a dinosaur, I certainly wouldn't want it to stay a dinosaur anyway. But even worse than Shakkoumon is Vikemon, who has nothing to do with any of its lower forms and doesn't even keep the shell idea. It's so out of place as an Ultimate form for Armadimon that they gave it to Gomamon's line after the fact. But what does that leave Armadimon with? Nothing. If it were up to me, I would remake Armadimon's entire family tree from scratch. Even more from scratch than I would remake the digimental evolution chart.

Go ahead y’all ask me how I am... do it, I DARE you... after Digimon Adventure: episode 50 - the 1999 equivalent of which, I feel compelled to mention, was “Jou’s Battle,” when Taichi strategically splits his group apart with the goal of gathering the whole team for the final confrontation - I think my emotional state can best be described like this:

but the truth is I’m very sad. I just can’t with this show anymore. I don’t know if I’ll continue to review future episodes. Actually, as I was watching this one, I thought it was the final episode, even though I knew there were supposed to be more and it hadn’t been hyped as the finale at all. I just thought, “What else can they do after this? It seems like the kind of ending this shitshow would get. At least it will be a relief to not watch it every week anymore.”

However, let’s be clear that this is NOT the finale. I’m gonna watch till the very end, but idk if I have it in me even to make these depressing little reviews. At first it was fun, then it was meh... I held out and the show got fun again, but the last month or so have been such a drag. And this week’s episode is just the final straw. So we’ll see.

Last week big bad Millenniumon appeared to be resurrected. Here he is.

Totally lacking a clear motivation other than “destroy the world...” Even in appearance, ALL of Devimon’s evolutions mid-season were WAY scarier.

Turns out Taichi and Agumon have faceplanted on this hunk of rock, which immediately breaks off and sends them catapulting earthward.

Wind noise what? Taichi and Agumon encourage each other while freefalling.

Agumon: Hey shouldn’t we have broken every bone in our bodies by now

Taichi: I once broke my leg tripping over Hikari’s hairbrush. This is starting to seem silly.

Meanwhile the others awaken inside what Tailmon explains is a cut-off dimension created by Millenniumon, where they will eventually fall into a dreamless sleep forever and ever.

Millenniumon’s power is immense and he makes volcanos erupt. So his power is he gives the earth digital acne.

Yamato evolves MetalGarurumon and stars just attacking the walls (of... the endless void... lol). This appears to slow Millenniumon down in a total rip-off of the way cooler way Koushirou slowed Diaboromon down in Our War Game.

The Holy Digimon are inspired by Taichi’s courage to fight wheeee I didn’t realize they were having problems with that

Taichi fights a lot and escapes certain death a lot. Even when he and WarGreymon take a head-on hit and are sent spiraling into the ocean. Still fine because THE POWER OF BELIEF

Chumbawumba: I get knocked down but I get up again you’re never gonna keep me down

WarGreymon is able to knock the black ball thingy out of Millenniumon’s mouth. This is fortunate because it’s what contains Yamato and friends and now they are able to free themselves thanks to the Holy Digimon, who randomly start acting like the Crests are important. But since we don’t know what they are *cough* they just call them “everyone’s hopes!”

Now let’s interrupt my mocking to appreciate an adorable Taichi waking up face:

The HolyDigimon have evolved to Ultimate level! More on that later. First, they divided the group in halves with them, because because. Hikari gets Taichi, Sora, and Koushirou, and Takeru gets Yamato, Jou, and Mimi.

So yes... those Ultimate evolutions... Tailmon becomes Magnadramon and Patamon becomes... GODDRAMON, GOD OF STEELY ABS

no seriously thats all I could think. Magnadramon is all soft and fluffy looking and then Goddramon is like “I HAVE SMALL HEAD HUGE BODY ABS ABS UNTIL KINGDOM COME, VERY MACHO”

He punches Millenniumon in the mouth, of course.

Millenniummon considerately starts to melt. Thank you, Millenniumon. We wouldn’t want Goddramon’s ego to get bruised.

There’s a few good attacks here - I liked Magnadramon’s Apocalypse attack - but like who even cares. The animation is so half-assed that there’s nothing really to appreciate.

Just when it seems Millenniumon’s defeated, he comes back like... this. It’s enormous. Even Koushirou’s digimon analyzer doesn’t know what it is.

Good heavens, WHY. WHY WHY WHY. I looooooove Taichi (obviously) but WHY is he the one fighting here?? First it was Taichi, then it was Goddramon/Magnadramon, and now it’s... back to Taichi??? FOR WHAT REASON???

I mean the reason is, we don’t know anyone else well enough to cheer for them the way we cheer for Taichi. As cool as the Holy Digimon are meant to be, I guess the one thing the producers realized is that, uh, they’ve only spent time building up Taichi (and even that, while they’ve done a lot of it, they haven’t done it well).

Our heroes wake up no worse for the wear. Millenniumon is gone. Everyone is together and happy. I’m just spamming Taichi again.

So, like I said, I was all prepared for this to be the inauspicious ending, despite what I’d heard about the number of episodes. But nope, there’s more. Although I’m frustrated beyond belief, I’m somewhat relieved because this does mean there’s still potential to recover somewhat from this utter train wreck of a battle. The big problem is that Millenniumon is a TERRIBLE villain.

The other problem is that the show HASN’T been terrible the whole time. It’s been up and down a lot, but the ups were very much there, and they gave us some stuff I found pretty interesting. Like, I really wanted to know more about what the heck went down between Taichi and DoneDevimon - the fact that only Yamato has any idea about it (Takeru too but he’s a baby) hasn’t been addressed. Then there’s the connections between Devimon and Angemon, SkullKnightmon and Tailmon. Those have been addressed, technically, but they left sooo much room for more.

Then there’s things like the kids’ family situations - my guess is we’ll end up back in the human world at some point quite soon - which were hinted at back when most of the team was exiled to the human world. Really want to see that expanded on.

Mosty of all, what gave me any positive vibes about this reboot at all was the first three episodes, which were pretty good overall - did a lot of things different but still preserved what I felt was most important. We saw Koushirou coming into his own, Yamato being standoffish and slowly opening up, and Taichi being the glue that keeps things together. Those first three episodes are arguably better than the rest of the show combined. And I bet it’s no coincidence that they predate covid-19 (sort of - I mean, covid was already a thing and around, Japan just hadn’t started caring much about it yet).

Episode 4 is when we started hitting misteps, and that’s also when the show went on brief hiatus due to covid. It never got back what made those first three episodes so promising, even during the highs.

I’ll make a list of the things I liked sometime, but I suppose the main points are the ones I mentioned above, plus the arc with Ogremon, and the kids getting new evolutions not seen in 99 Adventure (well, by “kids” I mostly mean Taichi tho - but I thought it meant everyone would get them. Technically, Takeru just did.)

So yeah. I’m  so done with this show and the things is, I just love Digimon Adventure so much, it meant so much to me as a kid. I didn’t expect the same show. I think my expectations were set at a reasonable level, though I knew I had to be cautious about comparing the now and the before too much. This show just hasn’t been able to live up to 99 Adventure, but that’s not even my issue - it’s that it doesn’t live up to other current children’s cartoons either. It’s got no heart. Just think about that, Digimon has got no heart. It’s literally all about the connection between kids and their partners, kids and their friends, kids and their families, and it has no heart! That is failure. It says to me that something got confused in production - there wasn’t enough money, or there was too much staff turnover thanks to covid, etc, and people just lost sight of the story they were planning to tell.

That’s what I think happened. It can’t be fixed at this point, but I’ll still watch till the end and hope for the best. At least maybe I’ll get more Taichi pics to spam.

I probably need to rewatch 99 Adventure soon to get my soul back.

Next week, apparently the Crests will finally matter. My hope is that this whole debacle with Millenniumon is gonna turn out to have been a cover for something much bigger and less boring going on. Millenniumon didn’t even get a villain monologue. He reminded me of the way Mugendramon had been somewhat, more like a puppet than his own person. Makes me wonder if the Vademon were up to more than simply resurrecting a vanquished evil. Here’s hoping.
