I love you (Runyon x Reader)

Warnings: The L word, angels, demons, implied could've died, death warning, love, lots of it. (Established Relationship)

"I love you." You startle when you hear Runyon speak the three words. He had his hand around your waist and his head on your stomach. You laugh.

"Where did that come from?" You inquire in a lighthearted tone. Runyon nuzzles your stomach slightly as he kisses you.

"Can't I tell the person I love how much I love them?" You nod in response to Runyon's question. You then tilt your head.

"But why?" You ask again, and he laughs. He kisses you again and rests his head on your shoulder.

"I love you, that's why." He merely answered. You blushed slightly as he nuzzled your neck.

"I love you, too." You simply react while closing your eyes.

"Runyon-!" As you see the demon ready for another strike, you sob. He wraps his body around you, and you can hear him grunt in anguish. He steps back and cups your face.

"Run." As you begin to shake your head, Runyon says clearly. "Conlan!" Conlan pales as Runyon glances at him as Runyon shouts to his brother. His orange eyes were ablaze. "Take them and run." He gives the instruction, but Conlan protests by opening his mouth.

"Bro-" Conlan begins, but Runyon cuts him off.

"Run!" Runyon orders again. Conlan inhales deeply and gulps. Before you know it, you're being snatched up and pulled away by him.

"No-! Runyon!" You called to him and noticed the wound on his back. As he turns to face you, your eyes widen. He was wielding a rapier. He gives you a reassuring smile, and you start crying and protesting Conlan's grip.

"I love you, rose quartz," Runyon says, and you hear him. You cover your lips as he turns to face the demon and draws his rapier. As the combat begins, the smoke obscures him.

You were trembling. Conlan tried to console you, but your gaze was drawn to the smoke, and tears welled up in your eyes. What if Runyon was no longer alive? Would you never again hear his voice? Were his final words to you that he loved you? He had to be OK. He had no choice. He was a formidable demon slayer. He wouldn't die easily, would he? You were far away from the carnage when you heard someone yell. He was right there.

"Runyon?" You perk up and instantly call. He was holding himself up with his sword, but he grinned at you. It was him, your Runyon. He was still alive. "Runyon!" As you rush at him, you yell. You hug him tightly, and he stumbles slightly.

"Rose-" Runyon begins, but your lips immediately silence him. You hug him one more.

"You idiot... You didn't give me the opportunity to say I love you back…" He blinks as you whisper. He sensed your trembling and softly wrapped his arms around your waist. He strokes your neck. You could sense his soul thrum and felt at ease. He was still alive.

"You're right... I'm sorry..." While holding you, Runyon whispers to you. You felt at peace but yet scared, because of his warmth, smell, and the feel of his magic. You'd chastise him afterward. What was important now was that he was safe. "I love you." Runyon says it quietly as if to make amends for not allowing you to say it back to him previously. As you close your eyes, you tighten your grip on him.

"I love you, too." As you hold him, you respond with a whisper. People were approaching to look at him and praise him, but you were in his arms, and he wouldn't let you go.
