(#MechaMarch2024) Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution Films
Yup, we’re doing this. This is a series of films that I’ve avoided for the longest time. Partially because I don’t pirate anime, right? So the official releases were few and far in-between and every showing of this film in movie theaters was too far away and not at a convenient time period. I also felt like this was a bit of a reaction to the Evangelion rebuild films. I thought that this would…

This has probably been said before, but if all local group seniors have symbols relating to karma, what does Boreas' symbol mean?
Not all of them do, only the first ten do (or nine, since the very first Iterator is diseased and Sliver is a sort of unofficial ,,replacement" within the symbol pool. her's is just an X without the circle encompassing it. important distinction). There's only 10 karma symbols in the journey to enlightenment and 24 groups after all.
The other 14 groups have more miscellaneous symbols that should be important to the location of the group. Group Alpha's senior, Sensible Inspiration, is for example this one:
Alpha's story as it is right now (a very rough conceptualization) ties to personal control of own inspirations - group of travelers that became the beginning of the group in old times had great ambitions and wanted to built just about anything and right away. They had to reign themselves in and redirect the inspiration to more sensible things in that moment. ...and some kind of symbolism with ,,wolves" (those have been in design queue for a good while now). Wolves as a play on ,,the Alpha" and more importantly for the sake of existence as pack animals, sharing in goal.
I didn't feel like marking him down, since he isn't particularly important. The Nine Karma Iterators are historically important for Iterator development, Moon is Moon and Sliver is Sliver they are always relevant and group Epsilon is the main focus of the ,,story" I'm making.
Epsilon's true senior is Zephyr.
Her symbol and therefore representation of the group is a snake, specifically a Basilisk, a creature reaching with its existence through physical and spiritual reality, native to the group's location. Its venom is the only known substance capable of killing the Rot. (since mythologically the Basilisk is so venomous that its tracks, breath, words and sight kill as well)
Zephyr was however deemed a failure after the start up went wrong, so Boreas picks up the mantle of a senior even though his mark isn't so related to the importance of the group's location.
His is a ,,general" promise of love and safety. Whether it is supposed to mean that he's a sort of a ,,personification" of protective love or a some sort of result of it or that the Anemons promised him that by tattooing the thing on his forehead... well plasticity is a good thing, isn't it.
(Lightly related tangent) The line going from the symbol and between the eyes is inspired in-universe by Moon and in Epsilon it is recognized as a symbol of the Anemoi Iterators.
But also, Boreas the greek god carries around a conch shell. I heard he uses it to amplify his winds. This is where Blessing's symbol was born and the in-universe meaning was later added while working on Anemon evolution.
#Spot says stuff#rw#oc tag#philosophy sessions au#this level of detail is the reason why other groups beside the important ones have no information on them. if i can't bring it to at least-#-a little similar level it would bother me. i have no idea what's happening in this world's equivalent of australia and i'll opt to rather-#-leave it like that. it's funnier. groups Beta Lambda and Kappa are probably busy sumo wrestling with the bugs anyway#Sensible Inspiration is also this au's replacement of Secluded Instinct. because i don't want to be conditioned by the fandom and the-#-person who made the broadcast iterators had some conditions regarding the usage of some of them iirc. game of telephone though.

do you think the jellyfish/sea anemone seen in splatoon still have their stings? like, if you, as a human, shook hands with or hugged Jelfonzo or Harmony would your ass would get sent STRAIGHT to god damned Davy Jone's Locker?
Big Man might fall under this too? though I think it's indicated he's a manta ray? which are mostly stingless to my knowledge
Okay, hear me out on this. You know how Inklings and Octolings have evolved from squids and octopuses and can't swim in water anymore like their ancestors? What if the jellyfish and sea anemones in Splatoon evolved to where they don't have their stingers anymore? Now im no expert on biology or evolution, but think about it for a second... With evolution, the parts of an organism that don't get used will eventually disappear over a long period of time. What is the point of jellyfish in Splatoon having stingers if they don't have predators to protect themselves from or to catch prey? Plus, it would be bad for the jellyfish vendors to have venomous stingers when handing out gear to Inklings and Octolings lmao.
So yes... you can probably hug Jelfonzo or Harmony.
Idk about Big Man because I have no information about manta ray biology lol. But I guess the same thing applies to him too and his species.

Mama Tea'N'Crumpets is just enjoying the fact her children aren't climbing all over her for once hehe
Daily Hobie HC! Aquarium date with Hobie because those aquatic tunnels just hit different.
Although going to an aquarium might've been called a 'basic date idea', Hobie was still feeling pretty excited by the fact you had suggested it. Even if it wasn't his usual idea for a date, spending time with you by his side already made it worth it.
Little did he know he was going to be more interested than he thought. The moment Hobie looked up to see the hanging skeletal structure of a hammerhead shark, his hand squeezed yours lovingly, before chuckling as you tugged him along to see the fishes.
He didn't need to focus on the large tank to see what was happening, your eyes showing him all he needed to see as the way the blue illuminated your features made him wonder how he got so lucky.
As the two of you moved along, you both went down some stairs into the winding aquatic tunnel, which lead to the penguins and seals. While in the tunnel, a large ray glided over, causing Hobie's eyes to widen in sudden surprise and watch as the ray floated off.
You couldn't help but laugh fondly at his shock, able to tell that he was caught off-guard by the large, elegant sea creature suddenly casting a shadow. Hobie watches as you wander off deeper into the tunnel, before following along after hearing you call out for him, wanting to show him the anemones.
Hobie teases your pronunciation for a few moments by repeating after you with 'an enemy' instead of anemone, his hand resting upon your waist as you roll your eyes at his antics. He leans down to press a peck to your temple, before mischievously patting your ass and speed-walking ahead with a smirk.
First, the penguins. You've never seen Hobie get so excited about penguins, yet it was oddly adorable knowing something like a penguin could make him smile. Of course, nothing could make him smile like you did, but penguins were probably somewhere close to the top on that list.
While you read off the information stand about the penguins, or pretended to, Hobie was uncontrollably smiling and chuckling at the baby penguins that had hatched in the earlier weeks, watching them run around and fall.
Hobie couldn't help but point them out to you at least for a few minutes after you had told him that it was time to move onto the seals and continue venturing through the aquarium, before interlocking his hands with yours and continuing. Though, you could've sworn you saw him wave goodbye at them.
The seals were under the water for this trip, swimming around and being awfully curious about the onlookers, especially Hobie, considering his style and jewelry. Some of them swam over to even follow Hobie until the edge of the tank as he walked off, causing the two of you to not be able to stop laughing and joking about his soon-to-be army of seals and penguins.
One of the most interesting sections of the aquarium was the fact that before the cafe and gift shops, was an ancient museum-type exhibit, showing holograms of certain sea creatures suspected to have been alive due to fossil evidence, which the largest one was the megalodon.
It was fascinating reading about the theories and possible evolution chains of the extinct animals, and you couldn't help but wish you could snap a mental picture of Hobie trying to figure one of the fossils out himself, a hand absentmindedly coming up to lay against his chin.
The sound of your smug chuckles snapped him out of his trance, making teasing remarks about how its so difficult to deal with you at times as he approached, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you closer. Hobie kissed the crown of your head, before hooking his fingers through your belt loops and continuing on forwards into the gift shop and cafe area, signifying the end of the trip.
It wasn't until you both were back at the boathouse, cuddling and talking about your favourite exhibits and moments, that you had revealed to Hobie a gift from the place. You had managed to nick a baby penguin plushie for him, the cute imagery of Hobie getting so fond over the little penguins replaying in your head as you watch him take it with a smile and set it down next to him, even patting the plush toy's head before wrapping his arms a little more tightly around you.
Hobie kisses all over your face as a thank you gift, before finally wrapping it all up with a gentle kiss to your lips. -🐦⬛
Lol she was enjoying her day off
Daily Hobie HC ❤️❤️❤️
GASP AN AQUARIUM DATE!!! 🥺
Yeess those aquarium tunnels do hit different but my anxious ass cannot take the thought of it cracking and suddenly breaking from above me 😣
I'd take so many pictures of Hobie in that tunnel an entire album wouldn't be enough to store all the pictures
This reminded of that one aquarium date fic i wrote some time ago!! Hobie and R kept pointing at the fishes and going: that's you! 😂 Like a couple of sillies
Yeesss he'd love the baby penguins!
Awww Hobie is secretly aquaman lmaooo
The seals are us whenever we see Hobie fanart lol
Yoo i bet he'd love one of those digging exhibits in museums where you get to dig out 'dinosaur bones'
Iqsbowzbjwsj R got him a baby penguin plushie!!! 🥺 Watch hobie take out a baby seal plushie for r!

Horror Manga Recommendations Part 13: Dear Anemone by Rin Matsui
Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've given a manga rec. but a friend of mine recently notified me of a new series that I think is pretty cool so far!
"When Gaku lands on the Galapagos Islands, a paradise is the last thing he'll be experiencing. With creatures undergoing horrific evolutions, only one rule still stands--the survival of the fittest!"
Dear Anemone is a great new series that's a body horror story with some battle royale elements. As Gaku explores the island to find his missing friend, he witnesses people transform into human/animal monsters as well as the rest of his team getting picked off one by one.
Anyways, there's only 2 chapters out so far, but that just means you can catch up quickly! You can read them on Viz and Manga Plus

Ideas for my own Pokemon x Twisted Wonderland fanfic Part 2
Alexia's Pokemon Part 1
Alexia’s Pokemon
Ben the Swinub : Alexia’s first pokemon. They met when she was 6 and they both got lost in a mountain. They are both the same age and have a bond similar to Ash and Pikachu. Ben is very upbeat, cheerful and can read his trainer very well. He is a lot more social than Alexia and is a major help in Alexia meeting new people (for good or bad). His name is based on the song “Ben” by Michael Jackson and I feel that it fits their friendship bond.
A group of 14 Unknown that spell Kokoro ?! Kiseki (a reference to my favorite Vocaloid song and to how Alexia’s kind heart and open mind are her greatest power): as a child, Alexia would often explore the ruins and play with the Unknowns that lived there. Since Unknown can read the minds and hearts of sentient beings they found Alexia’s autistic mind fascinating and used their reality altering abilities to teach her how to use her Aura abilities. Alexia’s mother however is afraid of Unknown and made her family move (this is one of the events that led to Alexia temporarily living with Professor Kakui and starting her Pokemon journey early), but 14 of the Unknown followed her and unofficially became part of her team. They do not battle or have their own pokeballs, but they gave her a special charm and occasionally teleport visit her.
Rocky: a male Buneary that hates his evolution’s feminine appearance and wants to be the strongest, toughest, and manliest Buneary in the world. He wears a luchador mask to hide his cute appearance and keep a masculine appearance and a belt with an Everstone on it. Rocky has a pretty good relationship with Epel due to them having similar struggles and even used Sucker Punch on Vil and Rook for their treatment of his friends.
Tonka: a Turtwig that served as Alexia’s starter pokemon in Sinnoh and is now a Grottle. He likes chewing on her head and sometimes forgets how big he is, because of this he decided to not evolve into Torterra. He has a little brother Turtwig named Tucker who came from an egg that Alexia brought on her journey and hatched in Twisted Wonderland.
Prince Nettles: a Mareanie that came in handy in the Octovinelle Arc. Nettles would eat the anemones off the contract victims' heads which would temporarily release them (and poison them) until Azul noticed what happened. He evolves durning the overblot fight and his poison becomes strong enough to incompassitate Azul long enough to defeat him. Nettles became good friends with Vil’s Gloom and helped him gain self confidence.
Poseidon the Magikarp: A friendly Magikarp that Alexia often carries around in a water filled hamster ball like container with a leash. He evolves into Gariados and becomes upset that he can no longer travel that way and Alexia considers letting Posidon go because she is worried that she is holding him back from his love of travel, but after defeating Jamil’s overblot, Poseidon lets her know that he wants to stay with her. He becomes the pokemon Alexia uses for surf.
Belladonna the Croagunk: an adult, female, crogunk with freckles on her cheeks and usually wears a maroon scarf with purple flowers embroidered on it. She has a strict and maternal personality, especially towards Alexia and the baby Pokemon, and is extremely strong and will go above and beyond for her team, even if she has to break through walls to do it. When Belladonna was a wild pokemon, she was considered an outcast among the other crogunk for her freckles so she wasn’t able to find a mate and have her own babies, so she wondered off to greenbelt near a town and tried to make friends with the children, but the kids found her rigid and unreadable face uneasy and were too scared to approach her. One day, she met Alexia who had a rough day at school and was covered in ink (she decided to play connect the dots with her freckles in an attempt to make friends but instead she got in trouble for drawing on herself) and Alexia said to her “You have freckles just like me!” and connected the pokemon's freckles too which formed flowers that are the same shape as the flowers embroidered on her scarf that she would get later. With that their bond began and Alexia and Ben would visit the Crogunk and explore the greenbelt together, not always talking but still enjoying their company. One day they found some flowers and when Alexia wanted to pick them, but Belladonna stopped her and signaled with her poison jab that they were poisonous and this inspired Alexia give her the name Belladonna. In Twisted Wonderland, Belladonna can often be seen with Alexia and the baby pokemon, but she also tends to show up in random places and surprising people. She doesn’t like Crowly’s incompetence and will often use poison jab or brick break on him for any offense she can find. She later finds two pollywag eggs and becomes a surrogate mother to them.
Sparkplug the Magnezone: Alexia had this pokemon ever since it was a Magnamite. It is a good friend and a trained orthodontist, which is handy since Alexia wears special braces that Sparkplug can remove when she needs to eat and put back on perfectly. Sparkplug later gives birth to a Magnamite which befriends Tinker, Ortho’s Meltan and moves into Igniahide's dorm.

Lisa Samuels’ complex coming-of-age story dances the surrealist dialogue
.·:*¨༺ __________________
Les Chants de Maldoror with an illustration by René Magritte, 1948.
Sink your teeth into the soil and hold onto it. Figuratively speaking, this is exactly what Lisa Samuels’ unnamed main character does at the beginning of Tender Girl (2015). Like evolution, the novel’s story begins in the water and ends on land. And an evolution it certainly is – the evolution of a girl who is new to the sweet achings of the human world. Samuel’s thirteenth work is a coming-of-age story of the unusual kind: with a strange protagonist and stranger prose.
Tender Girl opens by washing up its leading figure on the shore of humankind. Girl, as she is simply called throughout the story, is a peculiar hybrid being – half human and half shark. For the first time, she steps out of the ocean and carefully makes her way into a strange new world. Drinking up the unfamiliar encounters with a wondrous soul, she learns to navigate the complexity of human existence and what it means to be a woman. As she grows up, Girl experiences love, and violence, and art, and grief, and motherhood, and loneliness – and the language of herself. Lisa Samuels approaches this exploration in a complex linguistic way. One which often eludes the rules of syntax and grammar, instead radically striving for a stormy stream of consciousness.
"That untranslatability being the half-slipped land-slide kind of 'person-hood' she's noticing in the other body eyes and talk she hears conveyed. How do they keep from fundamental loneliness?"
- Tender Girl (2015)
Although not expressively labeled as surrealist, Tender Girl certainly is evocative of the style: the work embodies the idea of a metamorphosis of being. Through its themes and its form – both of subversive nature – Samuels’ novel conducts a conversation with the past movement.
(Tender) Girl is the child of a well-known father: the work takes direct inspiration from Les Chants de Maldoror, a poetic novel written by the French author Comte de Lautréamont in 1869. Lautréamont’s piece approaches transgressive topics such as violence, evil, and absurdity through the actions of its misanthropic main character Maldoror. In one scene, a bizarre sequence of events climaxes when he violently mates with a shark. In the diegesis Samuel has created, her protagonist is the offspring of this brutish encounter, and Tender Girl an informal follow-up of the 19th-century tale.
Decades after its initial publication, Les Chants de Maldoror was embraced by the Surrealist movement, being hailed as a ‘proto-surrealist’ masterpiece for its subversive themes and absurd contents. Lisa Samuels expands on Lautréamont, plucking Girl from the tree of his fictional sphere and giving her a unique voice. Through this continuation, the author places her protagonist in direct relation to the avant-garde movement: both Les Chants de Maldoror and Tender Girl are explorations of transformations. Just as the source material which Girl is given birth from utilizes surrealist concepts, so, too, does Samuel’s work absorb and reform them.
"She licks her tears away from her lower face, her pink tongue on the blue of her skin. The strawberries and the tentacles are softer than anemones."
- Tender Girl (2015)
The novel’s linguistic style is an ungraspable creature, an ever-changing chimera of words. The author thrusts away any coherency of sentence structure or syntax or grammar, freeing language from the shackles of coherence. Seldomly can the reader guess how a sentence will end. Samuels’ prose is an immediate representation of the protagonist’s fluctuating feelings. While Girl shifts and changes and grows in the world she explores, the narration responds. Through this, Tender Girl holds the theme of metamorphosis in its very form.
Lisa Samuel’s novel has glistering sharp teeth, and they have sunken deeply into the soil of Surrealism. Tender Girl is an anamorphic absurdity in contemporary shape, its complex form speaking the same language as the concepts that have conceived it.

Dust Watched: Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution 3: Eureka
Genres: Mecha, Sci-fi, Drama // 1 movie (2h) // Orig (x) M1 (x) M2 (x)
So, umm... this was definitely a movie.
✧ story ✧
I’m just going to cut to the chase, I’ve no fucking idea what happened in this trilogy. The first movie was to set-up this new timeline, the second one was to establish the new Anemone’s character and show us what Eureka has been doing and this one is uuuuuhhhhh...
????????
So there are 2 halves to this movie. The first one is a road trip with Eureka and Iris, who is a baby EUREKA so she can’t control her powers yet. They’re being chased by Dewey who can uhhhh astral project to anywhere in the world? I guess? And yeah, that’s pretty much it. I don’t know what to say. They are just driving, getting attacked, survive, then drive again and this goes on til the 2nd arc begins.
I also have no idea what’s going on in the 2nd arc however. Dewey reveals that his grand plan for kidnapping Iris was to make her use her power to... erase reality or something? Because they’re from one of Eureka’s alternate realities, so they are not “real”, so they want to die???
Listen, I’m not gonna lie, I don’t remember much from the original E7, nor was I the biggest fan of it. So I can’t really tell what’s just blatant bad writing and what is something that is just being referenced and I just don’t remember it. But even then, as a movie, it’s just not particularly interesting to watch.
I starts off with a cool ass mecha fight, then it goes into a slow pace character building section, then it goes into an absolute “????” with events that make no sense and then it’s over.
To me, one of the most telling factors of a show being unsure of itself, is when they have someone narrate what we could easily deduce from visual cues. And that’s the entire movie. To mention one example. after Dewey’s first astral projection, when he comes back, one of his 6 earrings turns into dust. An obvious visual cue that his earrings serve as a countdown for how many times he can do this again. But instead of leaving it at that, one of the characters is made to explain this to the viewer out loud. Infuriating.
✧ characters ✧
I don’t think the writer really understands why people love the characters of the original anime so much. It’s not just “Eureka” who they love; it’s all the hardship they went through alongside her in the original series that made people feel so much for the character. And it’s true for all of them; Renton, Anemone, Holland...
This is an alternative universe. You can push as many of the original characters into my face but I won’t feel anything for THESE characters. What I feel is simply nostalgia from the original. These are people who I don’t know, simply walking around with the faces and names of people I know from somewhere else.
There were only 2 times I felt something and one of them was heartache for Eureka in one scene where she reveals her scars. The other was absolute befuddlement turned into rage. <Spoilers> This movie brings back Holland, gives him the dream life and then fucking kills him. And for what? Why, How, Who? None of it made sense! His pals from the Gekko join him on this mission and then they let him sacrifice himself (for something that doesn’t even work!!!) at the end DESPITE knowing that his wife is pregnant! When he goes off, the rest of the crew is floating on something and just waving at him?? What are you doing?? Fight him, punch him, shoot him in the fucking arm, and do it yourselves! Are you seriously telling me that his friends just let him kill himself like that? Just like that? OOOOOHHH my god wtf.<Spoilers>
✧ art ✧
Oh my good lord, do I not like the character designs?? Like, none of them. Anemone gets offended for being called an “Oba-sama” but who can blame the kid? She looks 40! And Eureka looks like she hasn’t been to a hairdresser in 10 years and has just been cutting it for herself which... actually, that would fit her character in the movie. Still looks ugly though.
I also deeply dislike the colours. It’s so washed out. It just looks lifeless. The only thing I can commend the staff for is the background designs and the animation. The BGs and set-designs look gorgeous and are insanely detailed. The animation is fluid, although it suffers a drop in quality alongside the actual art itself in the latter half of the movie.
✧ sound ✧
Honestly, all BONES projects I’ve watched had fantastic music and this one is no exception.
✧ overview ✧
All in all, I’ve no idea what the purpose of these movies were. None of them were particularly good tbh. Maybe the Anemone one is worth watching just for how much of a fever dream it is.
My Rating: 4/10

A Compendium Of Colorfully Rendered 19th-Century Biological Illustrations – Design You Trust
Discover Ernst Haeckel, the 19th-century artist-biologist who found beauty in even the most unlikely of creatures. This collection features 450 prints from his most important publications, including the majestic Kunstformen der Natur and his extensive catalogues of marine life. As biodiversity is ever-more threatened, these exquisite images are a scientific, artistic, and environmental masterwork.
Ernst Haeckel (1834–1919) was a German-born biologist, naturalist, evolutionist, artist, philosopher, and doctor who spent his life researching flora and fauna from the highest mountaintops to the deepest ocean. A vociferous supporter and developer of Darwin’s theories of evolution, he denounced religious dogma, authored philosophical treatises, gained a doctorate in zoology, and coined scientific terms which have passed into common usage, including ecology, phylum, and stem cell.
At the heart of Haeckel’s colossal legacy was the motivation not only to discover but also to explain. To do this, he created hundreds of detailed drawings, watercolors, and sketches of his findings which he published in successive volumes, including several marine organism collections and the majestic Kunstformen der Natur (Art Forms in Nature), which could serve as the cornerstone of Haeckel’s entire life project. Like a meticulous visual encyclopedia of living things, Haeckel’s work was as remarkable for its graphic precision and meticulous shading as for its understanding of organic evolution. From bats to the box jellyfish, lizards to lichen, and spider legs to sea anemones, Haeckel emphasized the essential symmetries and order of nature, and found biological beauty in even the most unlikely of creatures.
