WIP Wednesday
“Oh dear,” Abdul said when he saw the cut. He turned to his emergency kit, rummaging through it as he shook his head, bewildered, “you should have gone to the hospital with this,” he told Thomas.
“They would have asked too many questions,” Thomas said, “and you’re the only doctor I know in the area”
“I’m not really that kind of doctor,” Walid said as he put on his gloves, “and my kitchen is really not the most appropriate place for this”
Thomas, whose most recent major injury had been treated at a field hospital and who had an admittedly vague idea of modern medicine, frowned, “What kind of doctor are you, then?”
“Gastroenterologist,” Walid answered, “guts and bowels. Now, this might hurt, I don’t have any anesthesia”
In his day they had sterilised the needle with heat and alcohol, fingers still trembling with adrenaline and fear as they pierced the skin. Compared to that it was almost soothing, watching Abdul unpacking a sterile set of needle and thread. “You have done this before, haven’t you?” he asked, nevertheless.
“Of course I have. But I don’t have nearly as much practise at it as a surgeon would, so it might not turn out very pretty.”
“I don’t care about that,” he said. Thomas had more than his share of scars, and none of them were pretty to look at.
“You say that now, but you haven’t seen what some of my colleagues have done to their unfortunate patients.”
