A Night to Remember
Summary: The event of the year is here! And as preparations, uninvited guests and dancing ensues, sparks will fly and certain feelings will be revealed (maybe).
Pairing: Bill Weasley x Female!OC
Word Count: 2.7k
A/N: I know I know I’m very very late with this part 2 and I’m sorry!!! I’m just such a procrastinator and things have been so hectic lately. Anyways I’ve left the ending on the cliffhanger, and I’m sure if I’m gonna continue or not because I’m actually (maybe) planning on doing a series inspired by my MC’s adventures. I’ll let you guys know.

Viviane’s Dress:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After successfully inviting Rowan to the ball as my date, I was summoned back to the Great Hall by Andre, who was excited to show me my clothing options. I owned a couple of dresses and skirts in my wardrobe, but none seemed fitting for what would be the grandest event of the year. And after seeing what Hogwart’s Style Wizard could do, I was looking forward to what he came up with.
The Hall was empty except for myself and Andre, and even from the entrance I could see three mannequins in the front, each with a different dress on them.
“Andre, how did you get everyone to leave so fast?”
“A little magic perhaps?” He joked. “Just kidding, once everyone heard it was for you, they cleared out pretty quickly.”
“Well that’s nice of them. So what are my options?” I looked over to the mannequins and was immediately stunned by the beauty of the dresses. One was a dark blue with stars and constellations woven into the fabric, sparkling and twinkling as if they were real. The second one was a deep maroon with a ruffled tiered bottom and white patterns running across the neckline. The final one was a green cold-shoulder dress with a short slit opening in the middle, and pink petals running down the dress to make it seemed like they were falling.
Seemingly satisfied by my reaction, Andre smiled and waved a hand about dramatically like he was presenting.
“Take your pick Curse-Breaker.”
I walked over and touched each of the dresses, feeling the softness of the fabric under my fingertips. “They are all gorgeous Andre. But…I just feel like they still lack something.” I bit my lip, afraid that my comment had upset him, but to my surprise he had a smile on his face.
“I thought you would say that Viviane, so that’s why I saved the best for last.” He walked over to the corner of the room, where a room divider was set up to form a makeshift changing space, and wheeled another mannequin out.
I gasped as soon as I took a look.
The dress on the mannequin was simply stunning. It was an A-line grey tulle dress with delicate lacing on the bodice. It was also off-the-shoulder and had a sweetheart neckline, helping to show off the right amount of skin without being too risqué.
“Oh Andre.” My hands covered my wide open mouth. “This dress is beautiful.”
“What are you waiting for then?” He was practically pushing me towards the changing space. “Go put it on.”
I quickly changed out of my uniform, and as soon as I put on the dress, I knew that it was the one. I didn’t know how Andre found out my measurements, but it fitted me perfectly, flaring out at my waist and hugged my chest just right. He must truly be a style wizard.
I walked out, cheeks slightly reddening. “So? What do you think?”
“Wow Viviane, you’re going to turn a few heads tonight.” He whistled admiringly. “Twirl around a bit would you?”
I did as he asked, giggling when the dress twirled in a perfect circle, making me feel like one of those ladies in a Jane Austen book going to a soiree.
“You’re a miracle worker Andre, how will I ever thank you?”
“Do the dress justice Curse-Breaker, and that will be enough.”
I went back to change, and as I hugged the dress close to my body to go back to my room, I’ve never felt more excited for the ball.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
The 4th year girls were all scrambling around like mad, screaming and shouting every time someone occupied the bathrooms for too long. The girls’ dorm was a mess of makeup, dresses, shoes, and jewellery flying about, and I coughed as some powder flew into my face.
Rowan was in another bathroom getting ready, and we both agreed to meet at the Great Hall instead of going together to keep the surprise, even though I had already seen her dress. I wiped the powder from my face and dusted them off my dress, then proceeded to put my black hair up into a chignon bun that brushed the nape of my neck. For the finishing touch, I also put on some light lip gloss.
While looking at my reflection in the mirror with satisfaction, I also had to fight the urge to run my hands through my hair and untangling them as a mix of nervousness and excitement started to pool in my stomach. I took a few deep breaths, calming down enough to step out of the bathroom, allowing another girl to race through me and go inside.
I exited the Hufflepuff Common Room and started to make my way to the Hall, catching a few glances and looks on the way as my silver sandals clacked against the floors of the castle. My face began heating up as the looks continued as this was the first time I dressed up this much.
The Ball was already at the full-blown level of activity when I entered, a cacophony of laughter and noises and endless twirls of satin and silk and cotton filled the entire place. Some were standing and chatting, some were munching on the food and refreshments, while others were already swaying to the lively music.
“Viviane!” From a distance, I heard my name got called. When I turned, it was Rowan who was walking towards me. “You look absolutely brilliant! I’ve been telling everyone that you’re my date, I hope that’s all right? I’m just so excited!”
“Of course it’s ok! And you look smashing as well. But I got to see your dress beforehand so I knew you would.”
“Just look at you two.” This time, it was Ben who appeared, more confident thanks to the “Maximus Confidencia” charm. “I’m afraid you might be too adorable for your own good.”
“I’m so glad that you talked us into going to the Ball Viviane, and thanks to Andre, I’ve been getting compliments from everyone.”
“I’ll second that, everyone wants my hat!”
“I’m so happy to hear that. And Rowan?” I turned to my best witch. “I’m sorry that I forced you to go at first and not listen to how you feel. I’ve never seen you so crossed with me, I should have been a better friend.”
In response, she put a hand on my bare shoulder and gave a reassuring smile. “Hey, it all worked out, so there’s no use living in the past yeah? Let’s just enjoy tonight.”
At that moment, Penny in her white and yellow ensemble walked over, looking as beautiful as ever. “Apologies guys, I need to steal Viviane for a moment.” I followed her with a promise that I’ll be back shortly, and we ended up near the night sky dance floor.
“It may sound corny, but I feel like you’ve been part of my Celestial Ball journey from the start!”
“Of course Penny! You deserve to be the head of the committee, you did a fantastic job.”
At that moment, Professor Dumbledore took to the front and cleared his throat, gaining the attention of everybody.
“Students, may I have your attention please? I would like to recognize Professor Flitwick for stepping in to lead the Celestial Ball committee’s decorating efforts. Also, I would like to recognize Penny Haywood, head of the decorating committee. The Great Hall never looked as stellar! Enjoy the ball, everyone!”
“Look at that.” I turned to Penny. “You got mentioned in front of everyone.”
“Oh I could explode with joy right now!” The blonde next to me was practically smiling from ear to ear. She then turned her head around to take in the atmosphere, abruptly stopping when her eyes went to the large front door. “Merlin’s beard, is that Bill?”
My head whipped around faster than a lightning crack, and indeed entering the hall was the handsome Weasley that had been plaguing my mind since the day I found out I have feelings for him. My eyes were drawn to his figure, which wasn’t in his uniform as usual, but in a classic suit with a deep red shirt. As he approached, I also noticed that he had on a grey waistcoat, the same shade as my dress.
‘Andre you sly wizard.’ I began to blush as I realized that he must have deliberately colour-coordinated our outfits, and couldn’t help the erratic beating of my heart as he walked closer.
He came to a stop in front of Penny and I, widening his eyes when he looked at me. I started to become even more self-conscious under his appraising gaze, and had to mentally stop myself from reaching up and tugging at the loose hair strands brushing my neck.
“Bill! You came by after all.”
“I promised Rowan I would after all.” He smiled. “You look absolutely fantastic by the way.”
I fingered a hair strand as the butterflies came. “Thank you, Andre helped with me with the dress. You looked handsome too.”
“Andre insisted I changed into something nicer. Something about the outfit making the wizard.” He weaved a hand through his fiery hair sheepishly. I wondered if he realized we were basically matching. Penny must have, because as she stood next to us, she kept looking at us back and forth and had a knowing smirk on her face.
“Oh no.” Penny groaned as a flash of pink caught my eye. “What are you doing here?”
Emily Tyler, that bloody witch, sauntered over in her usual horrendously pink outfit and smug face.
“I came to see if your decoration theme turned out better than mine would have. It didn’t.” She eyed the hall in disdain, making my blood started to boil a little. “But mostly, I was looking for Bill and saw him walk in here.” At that, my blood immediately went from hot to cold.
“Looking for me? Why?” Bill was as confused as we all were.
“To rescue you from these kids so we can spend some time together.”
“Kids?” I didn’t try to hide the sarcasm in my voice. “We’re not that much younger than you, Emily.”
Bill looked back to her, still having this confused and incredulous look on his face. “You want to spend time with me, Emily?”
“Yes, I made a mistake rejecting you, Bill. And I don’t make mistakes often. So let’s get away from this Celestial Ball nonsense you’ve gotten involved in. We can go to Three Broomsticks for Butterbeer. What do you say?” Emily looked at him up and down, definitely realizing how handsome he was.
“I say…” My eyes kept darting between them both, and as I saw Bill mull over the idea, my heart began to sink. Of course he’s going to say yes, how could he not? Emily is gorgeous and feisty and Bill used to have the biggest crush on her. I was wrong to even hope that there was something more between us, he probably said what he said when I was struggling to find a date to encourage me.
I hung my head and bit my lip in anticipation of his sure reply, one which will definitely break my heart.
“Not if you were the last witch on the planet, Emily. You’ve been too rude to my friends and to me.”
Wait…what?
I flung my head up, totally shocked by his reply. And I wasn’t the only one with a wide-open gape.
“If you’ll excuse me, I see Rowan.” He gave us one last satisfying smile, and proceeded to walk briskly to the girl in the blue dress standing by the fireplace. All three of us followed his figure, still surprised by what he said, but this time I had a wide smile on my face.
“Bill would rather spend time with Rowan Khanna than me? Even if I were the last witch on the planet?”
“Wasn’t ‘Planets’ your decorating theme?” I couldn’t help but added. “I much prefer Penny’s stars.”
“I’ll walk you out, Emily. And by the way, nice hair.” Now Penny was the one with the smug look on her face, completely enjoying the event that just happened.
The pink witch was visibly taken aback by our reaction, and she wasn’t sure how to respond. “Now I’m the one not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not.”
After the Emily Tyler debacle, the night went on without a hitch. We enjoyed the food and chatted before going to the dance floor and dancing to the music. Rowan and I danced to some Celestina Warbeck, and our whole group joined together when “Livin’ On A Prayer” came on. Thanks to some of the Muggleborn and Half-blood students lending their several records, we were able to enjoy both Wizard and Muggle music.
After a while, I felt myself breathing hard from dancing and laughing so much, so I decided to retire to the refreshments table, sipping a cup of chilled Butterbeer and munching on mini Cauldron Cakes. I was in the middle of stifling a laugh seeing Ben trying to do the Moonwalk when out of the corner of my eyes I saw Bill walking towards me with a wide smile on his face.
“I never thought dances can be so fun.” He leaned back on the table trying to catch his breath.
“I know, it’s a welcoming change from the usual.” We stood there for a while, simply talking about anything and everything, when I heard the music change into a slow and mellow song. People on the dance floor began pairing up immediately, and after the first few notes I recognized it to be Endless Love by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross.
“This is my favourite song.” Already I was humming along and tapping my foot silently.
“Oh? Then,” Bill suddenly turned to me, bowing and offering his hand. “Can I have this dance?”
I was motionless for a second before my brain finally caught up. I smiled and took his hand in mine. “I would be delighted.”
We were on the dance floor once more, but this time his hands were circled around my waist while mine wounded together on the back of his neck and we were so close that I was afraid Bill could hear the erratic beating of my heart.
It took a moment for us to learn each other’s rhythms, but once we did we soon found ourselves lost in our own world, a world of starry skies and twinkling lights. This was my first time dancing with Bill, so inevitably I was very nervous, and found myself avoiding his gaze.
“A galleon for your thoughts?” It was his voice that drew me back to the blues of his eyes.
I shrugged my shoulders. “Oh you know, the usual: classes, Cursed Vaults, Emily Tyler.” I might have whispered the last part under my breath, but he heard me nonetheless.
“Emily Tyler?” He raised his eyebrows. “Why?”
“Well,” I momentarily released one hand from his neck to play with the loose strands of my bun, trying to act nonchalant. “I was just wondering why you turned her down earlier. You used to fancy her a lot.”
“The keywords in that sentence is ‘used to’ Viviane.” He chuckled. “I fancied her once, yes. But ever since I found out her true nature and how she treated people my feelings for her began to fade. Besides,” Bill leaned closer to me, so close that our foreheads were almost touching. “There’s someone else on my mind now.”
I would have choked and died if I had not reminded myself to breathe. Would it be too absurd, too unbelievable, for me to think that he might be referring to me? To think that William Arthur Weasley, the coolest Prefect and skilled dueller of Hogwarts who I’m sure most girls fawn over, fancies Viviane Themis Albion, the troublemaking Curse-Breaker in search of her missing, possibly mad brother?
“Oh?” My throat suddenly became very dry, and I had to swallow several times to try and form coherent words and sentences. “And do I happen to know this person?”
Bill didn’t answer my question immediately, opting to give me a smirk instead, his blue eyes alight as if he enjoys keeping me in the dark. He quickly turned around to scan the room, and once satisfied he raised a hand to stop my fingers from playing with the hair strands, and tucked them behind my ears, making my cheeks heat up.
He leaned down and whispered into my ear. “Why don’t we get out of here and find out?”
The song stopped.

My Selections for GRAMMYS 2020
Continuing what I started last year here’s my reaction to the GRAMMY Nominations with my selections for who I believe should win, and also who I would have picked for each category.
Let me first lay out the ground rules: - I will be following the time frame for eligibility which is October 1st 2018 to September 30th 2019. - I will be ignoring categories for genres I don’t listen to enough. Metal, Country, Classical, Jazz, will be left off. - I am ignoring that the Performance categories are a mixture of recordings and live performances and just treating them as genre specific “Records of the year” awards. The one’s with “Song” in the title are geared more towards the song writing. - I will first make my selection of the available options. Bold and underlines will be my top selection with underlined not bold as my runner up. - I will then make my own selections for each category and who I think should win out of that. - My selection is not just a list of my favorite albums. My selections will be a balancing act taking in account artistic accomplishments, Impact both culturally and popularity as well as what I personally think is good. - I made a few liberties with some of my selections, mostly from the rules for eligibility being vague in spots. - This list is just all my biased suggestions. I’m sure there will be some major differences in opinions with anybody who reads this. - Feel free to shoot me a message to discuss more with me anything you wish to!

#underrated: it’s not even necessarily a great soundtrack, but it’s better than you think. and you probably haven’t heard it before.

2. What is your latest fandom?
Well, I am currently juggling two fandoms as of late: The Classic Rock and RuPaul’s Drag Race fandoms (I know. They’re totally different, right? LOL). One is about cigarette smoke and sleazy, dark pubs in the middle of 1960s working-class England, while the other one is all about glitter and a myriad of bright colours and upbeat pop/techno music (all sung by the Queen of Queens, RuPaul Andre Charles).
all available on iTunes *winks.*
9. What are the best things about your current fandom?
For the Classic Rock fandom, I love building friendships the other fans. They’re all so sweet. Overall, the Tumblr CR community is wonderful and has treated me well.
As for RuPaul’s Drag Race? *scratches neck* Well, to be honest, there’s a lot of tension, anger, and just problematic-ass things among the fandom. Things that I cannot even write out in full (This’ll be a full novel if I do). However, the fellow fans who aren’t close-minded or hateful are very sweet, and we all root for our favourite Queen without any strife. And that is how it should be. In all, I love obsessing over some Queens with other people.
11. Who is your current OTP?
My OTP (whom I absolutely adore) is actually composed of two of my favourite competitors for this current season of RPDR:
♥ Shea Couleé x Sasha Velour (Sashea) ♥
Their chemistry is off-the-motherfucking-chain, and they are both gorgeous, passionate Queens who are so invested into what they do. Most importantly, they shared a chocolate-covered stalk of broccoli, somewhat reminiscent of the two dogs romantically sharing spaghetti during Lady and the Tramp (LMAO). Such a beautiful thing. *sniffles, wipes tear*
It has been a treat to see their friendship build and burgeon into something so precious, something so out of this world.
Just to give you a little taste of my unhealthy-ass obsession undying love for Sashea, I’ll share a couple gifs:
27. What do you hate more: coming up with titles or writing summaries?
Titles. Are. The. Devil.
Summaries are actually fun to write. Although, it depends on what mood I am, tbh.
I STILL hate titles, though.
40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?
Well, titles, for number one (LOL).
But, I also get bored easily. So if I’ve been writing something for too long (for instance, a multi-parter), I get uninterested and abandon it all together. Wish I wasn’t like that.
I’ve got many others, but that one is the bain of my entire writing existence.
Thanks for the ask! I am loving answering these.

What are your ocs' go-to games at an arcade? Who likes to just watch? Who spends 50 dollars on a claw machine trying to get a stuffed animal? Who goes after them and gets the toy in one try? @duck-n-clover
Weeps,, yes I love it. I got rly tired in the middle of typing this so it took A While. But this was good, the perfect questions, thank you!
Josie’s favorite game is Pacman, and like,, Skee Ball. She’s not The Best at the video games so she kinda gravitates towards that if it’s around! Roxy’s favorite would be Space Invaders/Galaga. (I also wanna picture her as being very good at pinball) Naomi loves car racing games that u can sit and steer and Lauren loves fighter games,, especially silly ones featuring characters from old cartoons or w/e. They both get very into it and yell at the games a lot, and they’re almost always playing vs each other. Josie’s probably most likely to sit back and watch most of the time, she enjoys playing but she’s not very good at any of the games and goes through her quarters very fast. (though she can very easily get some more,, if Roxy’s not Too busy on an intense level. :,)) Watching is just, nice though.
AND GOSH!! Josie really really loves claw machine games. I can picture her wanting to spend a lot but,,, I also think she’d be surprisingly good at that. MAybe Roxy was trying to win her something for A While before Josie tries and wins something for the both of them. :,)
Nathan loves both racing games and fightin games like mortal combat. He’s also pretty competitive! Izzy's fave classic is Donkey Kong, but racing games are fun too! :0 Mark likes playing, This.. Lmao I think he’s fine playing anything without much preference, but he’s probably really good at a lot. Drew likes the shooter games and more modern games, but also something cute and simple and old school, like Frogger. None of them particularly strike me as the watching type, they all love to play. Like sometimes they’ll watch each other if they’re taking turns on a machine but! Then they swap! Nate and Izzy probably watch and swap with each other the most. I think Nate’s the one who really tries so hard to win at the claw, and Mark comes in and gets something immediately!
Andre likes playing with other people but he’s not incredibly competitive! He likes the fighter games where multiple ppl fight against the bad guys instead of each other. (THere was an X-men game where you could have up to 6 ppl playing!! He’d love that! All his friends can play!) Also. Space Invaders again. And if they had Dance Dance Revolution???? OH my gOD. Andre would play the hell out of that. Delilah would get very attached to a random cute character and not want to play anything else. Like Qbert, for,, some reason. Evelyn seems like she’d be into like a bunch of random classics, and for some reason Tetris sticks out in my mind for Avery. Nicki likes to watch, I’m not too sure what she’d play, but when she does she gets kind of competitive or just very determined to win. I feel like Avery doesn’t mind just watching someone else play, either. I’m not sure about the claw for all of them! I feel like Delilah could either be perfect at it or just no good at all, but,, she really wants the toys in there. Pls. Someone help her get them. Andre doesn’t seem like he’d be any good at it, either.
#GOsh this took me a while!!#i love it tho I love imagining them havin so much fun at a lil arcade!#cute!!#oc talk#original character#I'm not... gonna tag them all#werewolves#band#android

“If you’re going to relaunch a book called ‘Astonishing X-Men,’ it had better live up to the title,” says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. “Charles and his soon-to-be-revealed collaborators are about to unveil a story that touches every corner of the X-Men mythology, and the first issue alone will have massive ramifications for the Children of the Atom. We can’t wait to tell you more about this book.”
Old Man Logan, Archangel, Mystique, Rogue, Gambit, Bishop, Psylocke and Fantomex. Together, they are the Astonishing X-Men. But what brings this eclectic collection of heroes together? “The book is designed to tell a very focused, specific story, with a few cool main villains,” says series writer Charles Soule. “I’m writing it like a puzzle box, with new layers and reveals opening up every issue. So, you’ll never know exactly where it’s going to go next – but the structure is built in such a way that almost anything from the long, incredible history of the X-Men can pop up. If you think about these characters, they’ve been present or involved for virtually every major era of X history, all the big events. That’ll play a role in a big way.”
As deadly forces await, will the Astonishing X-Men’s first mission also be their last? Find out this summer, in the blockbuster ASTONISHING X-MEN #1!

Today, Marvel is excited to announce a new marketing initiative specially designed to increase comic store foot traffic and bring new readers into stores through the use of GeoTargeting technologies.
“Marvel is always looking for ways to get more people through the doors of their local comic stores,“ says Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel. “With these new tools at our disposal, we’re looking to tap into fans of Marvel television, films, animation, games and even our licensed product and turn them into comic book readers. Not only will these prospective readers learn exactly where their nearest shop is, but all the great Marvel comics waiting for them when they get there!”

Timeform Runners Guide: Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe
(New post on FreeBetAlerts.com) - https://freebetalerts.com/2018/10/03/timeform-runners-guide-prix-de-larc-de-triomphe/ #Freebets, #HorseRacing, #Tips
Timeform Runners Guide: Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Please share.
DEFOE (Roger Varian) Won four out of five starts last season, only defeat coming when tailed off in St Leger. Resumed progress this season, winning John Porter Stakes at Newbury in April and Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket (by three and three quarter lengths from Red Verdon) in May. Unsuited by the emphasis on speed back in trip in Tattersalls Gold Cup (10.5f) at the Curragh, but bounced back in fine style when neck second to Best Solution in Grosser Preis von Baden at Baden-Baden last time, needing a stronger gallop. Could run well at a price. SALOUEN (Sylvester Kirk) Good-topped colt, who is a very smart performer on his day, best efforts this year in Coronation Cup at Epsom (enterprisingly ridden when head second to Cracksman) and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (one and a quarter lengths third behind Waldgeist) on second/third outings. Respectable two and a quarter lengths third to Loxley in Grand Prix de Deauville last time, and career best needed to trouble the principals. CAPRI (Aidan O’Brien) Big, strong colt who was successful in Irish Derby at the Curragh and St Leger at Doncaster (by half a length from Crystal Ocean) in 2017. Won Alleged Stakes at Naas (gamely by head from Cannonball) in April but below form after five-month absence when six and a half lengths fifth to Waldgeist in Prix Foy over C&D last time, weakening after chasing the leader. Entitled to come on for that run though, and should do better than when only beating one home in this race 12 months ago. WAY TO PARIS (Antonio Marcialis) Won minor event at Milan in 2017, and has finished in frame five of six starts this year, best effort when three and a half lengths fourth to Waldgeist in Prix Foy at Longchamp last time, staying on well from rear off slow pace. That form gives him place claims here. WALDGEIST (Andre Fabre) High-class performer who made the frame in both French and Irish Derby last season, but has come into his own this season, winning his last four starts including Prix d’Hedouville over C&D in May, Grand Prix de Chantilly (by three lengths from last year’s Arc sixth Dschingis Secret) in June, Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (by nose from Coronet) in July and Prix Foy over C&D (smoothly, by two and a half lengths from Talismanic) in September. Did well to win so comfortably on latter occasion given modest pace and type to improve further when faced with a stronger gallop (often travels strongly). CLOTH OF STARS (Andre Fabre) Won first three starts last season, culminating in Prix Ganay win at Saint-Cloud, before producing career-best effort (top-class form) when two and a half lengths second to Enable in this race at Chantilly final outing. In frame five of six starts this year, including when third in Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan (three and a quarter lengths behind Hawkbill) on second outing and Prix Foy over C&D (beaten two and three quarter lengths by Waldgeist) last time. Acts on any ground and could run well once more at a decent price. TALISMANIC (Andre Fabre) Successful three times in 2017, notably in Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar (by half a length from Beach Patrol). Won minor event at Chantilly (readily, by one and three quarter lengths from Cloth of Stars) in March and Prix Gontaut-Biron at Deauville (comfortably by two lengths from Subway Dancer) in August, and well-held ninth behind Thunder Snow in Dubai World Cup at Meydan in between. Creditable two and a half lengths second to Waldgeist in Prix Foy at Longchamp last time, leading until heading inside final furlong. TIBERIAN (Alain Couetil) Successful four times in 2017, including in Prix d’Hedouville at Saint-Cloud, and Prix de Reux at Deauville and Grand Prix de Deauville. Best efforts this year when one and three quarter lengths fourth to Waldgeist in Prix d’Hedouville at Longchamp and one and three quarter lengths second to Finche in Prix de Reux at Deauville. Below form when nine and a half lengths fifth to Loxley in Grand Prix de Deauville last time, and needs to bounce back. CLINCHER (Hiroshi Miyamoto) Won Group 2 Kyoto Kinen at Kyoto (by length from Al Ain) in February, and finished third on next two starts, in Group 2 Hanshin Daishoten at Hanshin and Tenno Sho (Spring) at Kyoto (three quarters of a length behind Rainbow Line). Below form when eight lengths last to Waldgeist in Prix Foy at Longchamp latest outing, leading until over a furlong out, and more needed now. CRACKSMAN (John Gosden) Top-class performer who was successful four times in 2017, notably Champion Stakes at Ascot (most impressively, by seven lengths from Poet’s Word). Not looked as good this year, despite winning 1¼m Prix Ganay here in April and Coronation Cup at Epsom in June, producing a laboured effort when two and a quarter lengths second to Poet’s Word in Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot when last seen in June. Given plenty of time to get over that since, though, swerving a possible engagement in Juddmonte International at York, and unbeaten in two starts in France, so not one to rule out just yet if running here instead of defending Champion Stakes crown. Wouldn’t want fast ground. ENABLE (John Gosden) Top-class filly who won final six starts in 2017, notably Oaks at Epsom, Irish Oaks at the Curragh, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, Yorkshire Oaks at York (by five lengths from Coronet), and this race at Chantilly (by two and a half lengths from Cloth of Stars, well ridden and quickening clear final two furlongs). Sustained injury after, but showed all ability remains after 11 months off when making all in September Stakes at Kempton last time by three and a half lengths from Crystal Ocean. Should come on plenty for that and the one to beat once again. NEUFBOSC (Mme Pia Brandt) Won maiden at Chantilly in February, then listed race and Prix du Lys, both at Longchamp in May, last-named by one and three quarter lengths from Mahoe. Good efforts there last two starts, in Grand Prix de Paris (one and a quarter lengths second to Kew Gardens) and Prix Niel (one and a half lengths third to Brundtland, staying on). Still, more needed to be competitive here. PATASCOY (X. Thomas-Demeaulte) Won 1¼m minor event at Toulouse (by neck from Wetrov) in March, and had finished second all starts since, best efforts on last two, in Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly (half a length behind Study of Man) and Prix Guillaume d’Ornano at Deauville (beaten four lengths by Knight To Behold, keeping on). Stamina to prove now up in trip. KEW GARDENS (Aidan O’Brien) Won Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot in June and Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp (by one and a quarter lengths from Neufbosc) in July. Not given hard time when third in Great Voltigeur at York, beaten a length and a half behind Old Persian when attempting to give weight away all round, and improved again when landing St Leger at Doncaster last time by two and a quarter lengths from Lah Ti Dar, leading two furlongs out and staying on well. Has the pace to cope with the drop back in trip, but relatively quick turnaround of some concern. STUDY OF MAN (Pascal Bary) From the family of high-class miler Kingmambo out of outstanding miler Miesque. Won Prix Greffulhe at Saint-Cloud in May and Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly (by half a length from Patascoy, edging ahead over a furlong out and holding on well) in June. Run best excused when six lengths fifth to Roaring Lion in Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown last time, left with too much to do. Better judged on previous form and no back number if improving for longer trip (mixed messages from pedigree). LOUIS D’OR (Tony Castanheira) Won minor event at Deauville at two, and put up improved effort when third in Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly (half a length behind Study of Man) on fourth outing this year. Has failed to reproduce that form in Group 2 events since, including in Prix Niel at Longchamp (seven and three quarter lengths last to Brundtland) on latest outing. HUNTING HORN (Aidan O’Brien) Very smart performer who won maiden at Naas in April and Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot (by four and a half lengths from Crossed Baton, storming clear) in June. Ran in USA next two starts, and back to near-best when short-head second to Brundtland in Prix Niel at Longchamp last time, challenging winner from over two furlongs out. Stable seemingly have stronger claims elsewhere, though. NELSON (Aidan O’Brien) Smart performer at best, winning Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown (by half a length from Delano Roosevelt) in April. Creditable seventh to Kew Gardens in St Leger at Doncaster last time, but only used as a pacemaker that day. MAGICAL (Aidan O’Brien) Successful in maiden at Cork and Debutante Stakes at the Curragh (by one and a half lengths from Happily) at two, and also good second in Moyglare Stud Stakes at latter course (short head behind Happily). Won Kilboy Estate Stakes at the Curragh in July this year, and better than result when three lengths fourth to Laurens in Matron Stakes at Leopardstown last time, upsides briefly a furlong out and held when hampered final 100 yards. This represents big step up in trip, though. SEA OF CLASS (William Haggas) Half-sister to numerous smart winners, and has kept up the family tradiion, already the pick of the bunch after four wins from as many races since promising debut at Newmarket in April. Won listed race at Newbury in May, and similar event back there in June, as well as Irish Oaks at the Curragh (by neck from Forever Together) in July. Improved again to complete four-timer in Yorkshire Oaks at York last time by two and a quarter lengths from Coronet, quickening impressively from last to first and shooting clear inside final furlong under hands and heels. Usually travels strongly and certainly has more to come, so looks a leading contender here with handy sex/age allowances. Supplemented at a cost of €120,000 on Wednesday. CONCLUSION Last year’s winner Enable showed she retained all her ability when dictating matters at Kempton, and she’s likely to come on plenty for the outing. However, prices of 5/4 in what’s shaping up to be a stronger renewal than 12 months ago make little appeal at this stage, and preference (assuming the ground doesn’t come up too soft) is for the rapidly improving Sea of Class in receipt of 7 lb. She produced a fine turn of foot when wining at York and can justify her owners’ decision to supplement her by becoming the fourth winning three-year-old filly in eight years.

Writers Guild prizes go to “Call Me By Your Name” and “Get Out”
Over the weekend, a pair of screenplay precursors were announced, bringing us very close to the end of the season. On Saturday night, the USC Scripter awards were handed out, while last night saw the Writers Guild of America hold their ceremony. With only BAFTA still to chime in, among the truly influential precursors, the race is still in flux overall, though with more and more categories starting to come into focus. Post BAFTA, that’ll be the time to really analyze where we are, but for now, WGA and the USC Scripter at least wrapped up Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards. The Writers Guild opted to continue the steady stream of wins for James Ivory and Call Me By Your Name. The USC Scripter prize went to Ivory as well, so he seems set for Oscar. In the WGA Original category, we saw Jordan Peele take it for Get Out, perhaps pushing that film a bit towards the top of the Academy Award category as well. Not having Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri eligible with the WGA prevented a full head on collision, but seeing Lady Bird and The Shape of Water lose definitely gives them a black mark. In all likelihood, the Oscar in Original Screenplay is between Get Out and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Anyway, take a look at this weekend’s results and sit tight for much more on what it all means in the days and weeks to come…
