Diwali in the Andaman Islands: What to Expect and Where to Celebrate 🌴
Hello there, and welcome to the Andaman Islands! You’ve picked a wonderful time to visit, as Diwali brings a festive vibe to our otherwise tranquil islands. Although the celebrations here may not be as grand as on the mainland, there’s still plenty to experience as a visitor. Here’s a quick guide to help you plan your Diwali in Andaman:
Where to Celebrate Diwali as a Visitor:
Port Blair – Light Festivities & Local Culture 🌠 In Port Blair, Diwali is a quieter but heartwarming celebration. The main market areas, especially Aberdeen Bazaar, light up with decorations and lamps. You’ll find a festive spirit, as shops and stalls stay open a bit later, offering local sweets and Diwali delicacies.
Local Restaurants & Resorts 🏨 Many hotels and resorts will have special Diwali menus or evening celebrations for guests, including traditional decorations, sweets, and sometimes even small-scale fireworks. WelcomHotel Bay Island and Fortune Resort Bay Island are known to organize cultural evenings and may welcome walk-in guests.
Wandoor Beach – Natural Vibes 🌊 If you prefer to avoid crowded spots, head to Wandoor Beach or Corbyn’s Cove Beach for a peaceful evening. While you may not see organized festivities, the serene beachside atmosphere provides a beautiful backdrop for your own Diwali celebration.
Tips for Diwali in Andaman:
Beaches in the Evening: While you can enjoy the beaches during the day, be mindful that firecrackers are generally discouraged in beach areas to protect marine life and maintain cleanliness.
Travel & Transport: Diwali evening sees less public transport, so plan ahead if you’re relying on taxis. Many locals spend the evening with family, and cabs may be scarce after dark.
Engage with Locals: Andaman locals are incredibly welcoming. You may even get invited to join a small family celebration or try some traditional sweets.

Wishing you were here now! Read the postcard I sent to my friend. Millions of us are aware of how precious this illusion of time is ,and waste not a second in going to places where we know our hearts will beat with a refreshing new vibration.I hold the Andaman sea and its many islands with special regard having traveled on long boat on my way south, met so many kindred souls and had a so many wonderful experiences that will live in my book until I depart to the next reality. This pic is a reminder of the reason why we are here friends ,not to suffer ,not to live in hell, but to enjoy life,to be grateful for everything received from this universe ,to learn to get rid of negative energies and any dead weight of past relationships and to celebrate our freedom. For never to forget that we came alone to this world and alone we shall leave.Words by Sergio GuymanProust.

Want To Know About The Andaman And Nicobar Beaches
Andaman and Nicobar, on the east coast of India spreading its wings in the Bay of Bengal, is the matchless, rich forest Island state due to its natural geographic location. It is an ideal holiday site because of the lovely unspoilt and unexplored beaches and coastal areas. Being a cluster of 572 islands, 362 islands are volcanic in nature out of which only 37 are populated. Backed by tranquil surroundings of luminous white sandy beaches canopied by tropical rain forests, a translucent turquoise sea with dolphins and fishes, and coral reefs; the green islands have a memorable history and offer a colorful present. Apart from beaches, these islands are famous for colorful shells, handmade palm mats, and delicately imprinted wooden items.
Invaded by the French, Dutch, Japanese, and British, the islands have witnessed furious battles between the colonizers and the local inhabitants. One such must visiting historic place is the Cellular Jail where many Indian fighters were jailed at the time of the Indian freedom struggle. Current families of these prisoners and the native tribes make up the population of the modern Andaman and Nicobar. Unlike other exotic visits, you will come across the tropical rain forests housing distinct birds attracting botany lovers and tribes that still do not know to use fire.
Ideal destination for marine and water sport lovers, swim in the waves with dolphins and multihued fishes and perform snorkeling and scuba diving in the clear waters. Sandy beaches are also popular for turtle nesting for which the aquatic species are Leather Back Turtle, Green Sea Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle, Olive Ridley Turtle, Water Monitor Lizard, Salt Water Crocodiles, and Reticulate Python.
Let’s now take a look at the beaches of Andaman and Nicobar islands.
Beaches of Port Blair (The Capital of Islands)
Port Blair, named after Lt. Archibald Blair who represented the East India Company, is the land of arrival and departure of these islands that has a coral marvel nearby. The famous beach here is Corbyn Cove and Chidiya Tapu. Perfect for swimming, sea bathing, basking, and relaxing, the extraordinary good-looking Corbyn Cove sea beach provides magnificent views. The Peerless Resort at a stone’s throw and the Hornbill Nest Guest House nearby offer a scenic view of the blue waters.
Located at the southern end of the Andaman’s, the Chidiya Tapu covered by lovely forests, has many sandy beaches are canopied with the dense mangrove forests. These forests are an abode of many species of birds. You can imagine yourself on a beach holiday to the Chidiya Tapu having a delicious picnic lunch accompanied by the melodious background music of continuously purring of the sea and tweeting of the birds.
Beaches of Wandoor
Lying on the west coast of the Southern Andaman Island, Wandoor is among the exotic, non-populated, and faultless islands that offer cool beaches, spectacular corals, and remarkable marine life. Catch a boat from Wandoor jetty at 10 a.m., roam through splendid mangrove creeks for an hour, and reach the close islands of Grub, Red Skin, and Jolly Buoy. At Red Skin and Jolly Buoy, you can enjoy viewing tropical marine life and an astonishing labyrinth of corals. Glass-bottom boats and snorkeling equipment are what will attract you to stay there whose details can be obtained by the tour operator. Only day excursions are permitted abandoning stays at night.
Good beaches here are just perfect for sea bathing and basking. Because of the brittle ecosystem, the area has become a part of Marine National Park named Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park that includes 15 major islands and many islets that offer underwater views of coral and marine fauna. Among its lush marine species are the four species of turtles, the dugong, and the salt-water crocodile.
Beaches of Cinque Island
This is another outing specifically for water sports located at a distance of 25 km south of Port Blair. The Cinque Island provides a great scope for scuba diving, swimming, and camping with the delightful underwater coral gardens and faultless shores – particularly the amazing sand bar connecting two islets. Not being very deep, the seas surrounding the island are wealthy in corals. Here is the chance to greet the frolicking dolphins. Just spending a day here will quench your thirst for such experiences; however, its memory will always keep instigating a feeling of wishing for more such holidays.
Beaches of Havelock and Neil Islands
These islands must form a part of your visit and both of them are well linked to Port Blair. This link is the inter-island shipping route where ships offering a safe travel are the lifeline. Not offering any kind of luxury, it is worth passing these ships to view these islands. Unlike Wandoor islands, you can stay here overnight and can take pleasure in observing the stretched virgin beaches of Havelock. Waters providing a lush marine life, you can be lucky enough to have a glimpse of frolicking dolphins just at a little further distance from the bathing site.
The Radhanagar and Vijaynagar Beach in Havelock are major attractions here as it offers unpolluted surroundings of Andaman & Nicobar Islands for the one who loves cleanness and freshness. Radhanagar beach is at a distance of 7 km from the Dolphin Yatri Niwas; whereas, the Vijaynagar beach is just in the facade front of the Niwas.
Harminder Bay Beach
These are located at the Hut Bay Island at 100 km from the Port Blair city. Similar to Havelock and Neil islands, these islands are too connected by inter-island shipping routes.
Karmatang Beach
This site located at the turtle nesting ground is under construction to convert it into a tourist complex. Situated at a distance of 240 km by road and 136 km by sea route from Port Blair, it is at Mayabunder that is to the northern part of Middle Andaman.
Ramnagar Beach
Connected by only two boats traveling from Mayabunder daily and twice a week from Port Blair, it is a sun-shined golden beach of Andaman situated at Diglipur Island.
Other Attractions
These include some more islands of historical significance and beautiful fauna.
Rutland Island
Good site for training open water divers, the waters here are not deep and encompass smaller fishes and coral.
Snake Island
This is a worth visiting site for grand rock faces and dive landscape. It also houses marine species such as Triggerfish, Grunts, Goatfish, and Rays.
Ross Island
Been the capital during British rule, you can view the relics of the old building and a museum called Smritika that houses British-related photographs and the other antiques.
Viper Island
This island was the spot to lock the prisoners at British time. The first jail was built on this island that was not used after Cellular Jail. The gibbet on the top of a hill has witnessed the deaths of prisoners, as it was at this place that they were hanged. One of those was Sher Ali, who killed the Viceroy of India in 1872.
Chatham Island
This island hosts the biggest and most ancient Saw Mill of Asia and the Haddo Harbor.
Best Time to Visit
October to May
Reaching the Andaman and Nicobar Islands
By air, you can catch a flight of Indian Airlines and Jet Airways from Kolkata (1250 km) and Chennai (1200 km). By sea, you catch a cruise to Port Blair from Kolkata and Chennai every week. The journey time is nearly 3-4 days.

Success story time!!
hello guysss! i am going to talk about my success story :D
so a long back ago i used to daydream about being on a beach with blueish water were i would come back from hotel to the beach with my school friends wearing a bikini and guys staring at us in "wowness". i would do this when i am showering and i wont just close my eyes and imagine but i just open my eyes and just know these people are here and there and act as if this was happening and it was fun too do. But the main thing was i wanna go to the beach with my school friends which was clearly not possible.
the 3d limitation were
-there is no were in our area were there is a beach with blueish water
-i imagined all "my grade" students to be in the beach were i wont even talk to some students so being together in the beach.. mmm not possible.
so how did it come? cause our school arranged a trip to Andaman and Nicobar since its our last year of school.. and when i saw the image of the island i was shook! thats exactly what i imagined and half of the students i have imagined wanted to join the trip plus it was cheap.
there is another limitation which hindered which was my parents...
they are really orthodox.. and won't let us go abroad due to reasons cause she wants me to stay with them??
but i was shocked when they said that they will let me go there and i am going to andaman and nicobar!!! (also i will send you guys the photos if i go there :DDD)
