can't stop laughing at the new football fans and especially PL merchants goggling their eyes at this "drama" (read: historical revisionism and genocide denial by a club founded on fascism) and making inane and insipid comments like, "oh this has officially gone beyond football." brother el clásico has ALWAYS been more than just football it's literally war by proxy via football since catalonia and spain can't very well get into actual war with each other. i know it's a bit hard to grasp for some of yall bc liverpool and city are too busy tonguing at each other in the stands for you to understand what real rivalry and hatred looks like plus the covid barça and rma fans braiding friendship bracelets together and tucking flower crowns in the other's hair certainly don't help but don't get it twisted— it's always been this way

#some of these comments are so ignorant my goodness #this is what equating football with money and forgetting its politics has done to an entire generation #entirety of the indian subcontinent are in love with argentina's football bc they suffered under british colonial rule and maradona's #hand of god against england became a symbol of liberation for them #and you're telling me 'oh mixing football and politics is so ugly'#this is why all the joy and exhilaration is gone from the sport bc people now treat it like a video game
