thinking about like. an aoex au but make it sci fi. humanity now resides in a series of eight space stations, after having to leave earth behind. each station is ruled over by one of the Baal (who would not be demons here, obviously). there used to be a ninth station, but it was severely damaged in an accident and rendered largely uninhabitable. all of its surviving residents were moved to other stations.
some key points!
yuri lives! she works as an engineer, helping repair the robots that maintained the ninth station. she's a single mother, living quietly with rin and yukio when the accident occurs- and rin very nearly loses his life and suffers critical damage to most of his body. so yuri does what any reasonable mother with a degree in advanced robotics would do, and makes him into a cyborg.
this is very illegal! by the way!
yuri moves to mephisto's station in the aftermath and changes their last names. she tells rin and yukio that no one can know about rin's secret, and she does her best to help rin blend into normal society. from the outside, he looks perfectly human!
(well, except for the tail that doubles as his connection port- but he can hide that easily enough.)
...this changes slightly when her childhood friend shiro shows up at her door. the last thing he knew, yuri's eldest child was on the verge of death- so imagine his surprise when finds that rin is both a.) alive and b.) wholly intact. yuri confesses what she's done, and pleads with shiro to not tell anyone.
shiro is horrified at first. his literal *job* is dealing with renegade robots and illegal cyborgs... and yuri is telling him that she's turned rin into one? what were you thinking? but eventually he comes to understand that rin is just... a normal kid, and that's all he wants to be.
he retires, and moves in with them to help protect both yuri and rin.
a lot of rin's pre-accident memories are shaky at best.
mephisto's station is just his true cross academy's architecture, but applied on a station-wide level, lmao. there's no true public greenspaces, but all their food is harvested from greenhouses on the station. it's very high tech, but at the same time, very much like living on earth.
(this is not true for all of the stations by a long shot)
yukio learns robotics from yuri! he wants to be able to take care of rin one day, even after their mom passes- seeing as rin himself doesn't have much of a head for robotics, ironically enough.
rin: my body might be like, 80% artificial, but my brain is 100% organic rin! for good and for bad!
around his first year of middle school, rin's family took a convenient trip to another station for a month and a half- but this is all a ruse. yuri was just adjusting rin's body to make it seem like he'd gone through puberty while they were away. this means there's a window of time in which rin gets to be taller than yukio.
(enjoy it while it lasts, buddy! no your mom will not rebuild your legs just to make you taller than yukio. that costs money, rin.)
rin runs on an internal battery with a relatively long lifespan, and uses his tail to recharge himself when needed. he does not and cannot eat, but still loves cooking regardless. it makes everyone else happy, so it makes him happy!
rin loves to wander around the station in his free time and uh. often ends up in places he should not be in. during one such escapade, he discovers a strange natural greenspace- a garden, filled with lots of tiny little robots that all tend to it.
in the center of the garden, there's a mysterious pod- and inside of it, is the most beautiful girl rin has ever laid eyes on. he touches the pod without thinking about it- and accidentally activates it, releasing the girl inside.
her name is shiemi, and she has a mysterious power that makes plants grow. rin decides to take her out of the garden- and discovers that she's an artificially created lifeform, meant to aid with terraforming should a new planet ever be found to house humanity. she was supposed to be in cold sleep until then, but...
(mephisto looking at rin and shiemi standing next to each other like. hmmmm. this could be amusing! very well! i approve!)
(the baal may or may not be aliens masquerading as humans. don't worry about it. i'm sure it's fine.)
#blue exorcist#the little garden tending robots are all greenmen!#and yes. one of them comes with shiemi when rin takes her out of the garden#rin: wait. mom. could you make it so I can fire eyebeams?#yuri: hmmmm#shiro: yuri. no.#(rin and yukio are SO suspicious of shiro at first. what are your intentions with our mother)#rin being that weird kid that you never see eat lunch lmao#is rin's connection port being a tail practical? a little bit! is it cute? absolutely.#aoex scifi au

Amaimon X Student 12
So, i'm mostly done writing the Amaimon x Exorcist chapter 3 but this idea came to me and I couldn't let it go. 🫢
When Shiemi assures you, that yes, Rin deleted the photo, she is sure of it. You open your photo app once again. “Wait, it’s actually cute.” You comment, gazing at the photo. “Okay, it’s really cute.” You grin.
Izumo scoffs. “It’s gross _____.
Paku leans closer to you to get another look. “It is kind of cute.”
“Right?” You grin.
Izumo glares at the two of you. “It’s not cute at all, and you would think differently if you saw what we saw on the camping trip.” She tells Paku.
You huff, “I was on the camping trip; it’s cute.”
“And clearly, you’ve got a screw loose.” You pout at her words but don’t argue against it.
After the four of you finish, you go your separate ways. Shiemi and you head to your apartment while Paku and Izumo head in different directions. The walk to your apartment is quiet, and Shiemi seems really nervous throughout. Once you arrive, you gently nudge her inside, “Okay, tell me what’s wrong.”
“I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have said anything, I just didn’t realize you didn’t know, and I said it in front of other people.” She looks like she’s going to start crying, so you quickly wrap your arms around her. “No, no. Shiemi, it’s okay. Izumo and Paku are some of our closest friends, right? It’s okay. I’m just glad you told me.” She nods against your shoulder as she hugs you back.
“…._____?”
“Yeah?”
“You didn’t really put his…thing…in your mouth, right?”
“….”
----------------------------------------------------
Amaimon cautiously steps into Mephisto’s office. The king of time had sounded odd over the phone when he requested that Amaimon come for a brief chat.
“Oh, I'm glad you’re here. Please, take a seat and enjoy some tea. We need to have a brief chat about Miss ____.” He gestures to the chair opposite his desk as he speaks to Amaimon. Said demon glances at the chair and then back at Mephisto before calmly sitting down.
“Tell me, what do you know about Miss _____?”
“…”
Mephisto nodded. “I suspected as much. She comes from a long line of exorcists, a lineage typically marked by great power. For centuries, they have served the order tirelessly.” He observed Amaimon cautiously, and as expected, there was no sign of reaction. “Unfortunately, many of them were wiped out during the Blue Night, particularly the younger generation. Miss ______ is the last one left to carry on the bloodline unless her parents have another child, though honestly, that seems unlikely.” Still, Amaimon remained unfazed. “Her parents are exceptionally strict; I’m unsure how she managed to convince them to let her stay at True Cross to graduate. Regardless, since she’s the last of her bloodline and her family is so demanding, they are already searching for suitors for her. They want her to marry and start a family soon after graduation. I’ve heard she has developed a bit of a crush on you.” Once more, there was no response from Amaimon. “Stay away from _____; I had thought you were merely trying to provoke Rin. I wasn’t aware you had become intimate with her.”
Amaimon opens his mouth, looking for a moment like he might argue with Mephisto, but then he nods. “Okay.”
Mephisto raises a brow, surprised Amaimon agreed so quickly. I suppose he’s not as interested in her as he made it seem to Rin; good, it’s less of a headache for me. “You may leave.”
As Amaimon leaves Mephisto’s office, thoughts of you and another man begin to fester in his mind, fueling his anger with each step. No other man should be able to kiss you, hold you, or be intimate with you. No other man should ever hear the sounds you make; or have the privilege of tasting you, and no other man should know what it feels like to have your mouth around their cock. You belong to Amaimon. You’re his pet.
His anger quickly escalates into rage as he heads to your apartment without hesitation.
You jump when there is a loud knock on your door; confused, you pull away from Shiemi. “Coming.” You’re surprised to see Amaimon standing in the doorway when you open it, but what’s more surprising is the emotions on his face; the normally unbothered demon king is now furious. Almost on the same level as you saw the night he attacked Rin on the camping trip. “Uh, come in?” Despite your common sense telling you otherwise, you step away and welcome the demon into your home. He steps into the house and quickly heads to your bedroom. Where he’s aware you keep documents. “Shiemi, you should leave.”
“But-“
“It’s okay. Look, if I don’t text you within an hour, feel free to call someone to check on me, alright? I promise I’ll be fine.” It’s not a promise you should be making, but you’re eager to find out what’s bothering Amaimon. You can hear him going through various drawers in your bedroom. “Actually, I’ll call you since someone tends to text from my phone. So, if I call you, you can be sure it’s really me, right?” Gradually, she nods, allowing you to guide the blonde out of your apartment.
As you enter your bedroom, you find Amaimon sitting on the edge of the bed, casually flipping through a stack of documents. It’s evident he has uncovered what he was looking for. A frown crosses your face as you move closer, slowly realizing what he has discovered. “Did Mephisto tell you? I haven’t even shared it with Shiemi or Rin, and they’re two of my closest friends.” You let out a sigh; it’s a topic you prefer to ignore, preferring to live in a world where this isn’t your reality. It’s easy to pretend until another file arrives in your mail every few weeks.
“My parents didn’t have a choice; they were matched up and told that if they didn’t like it, too bad – they needed to have a child. Fortunately, they fell in love, which is quite rare in my family. However, having witnessed what their own parents and other family members endured emotionally, they didn’t want to put me through that. They’re offering me a choice among the potential suitors they’re finding. I can even go on dates with them before making my final decision. There are a couple that my grandparents have selected.” You pick up a file from the bed and show him a photo of a gross-looking man twenty years older than you. “Luckily, my parents are trying to find me someone I’ll at least be attracted to; as you can see, my grandparents couldn’t care less if I’m attracted to them or not.” You toss the file in the trash can beside your bed. “Why did Mephisto tell you?”
“Rin Okumura showed Big Brother the photo I sent him. He told me I need to stop bothering you, and why.”
“Oh.”
Amaimon carelessly tosses the files from his hands onto the floor. “I don’t like to share,” he declares, stepping on a few of the fallen papers as he exits, slamming the front door behind him.
You sigh, bending down to pick up the strewn documents. “I guess that’s the end of that. I was hoping to live in my fantasy a bit longer.” You had been trying to ignore all the files, but now you realize it’s time you have to accept it. Carefully, you start to scan through the documents and photos. Most of them end up in the trash, as you discard them without bothering to read beyond their names and ages. You had initially set aside a couple of options to discuss with your parents, but now they’ve become mixed up with all the others. Upon revisiting them, you find yourself less interested. How can you be interested after experiencing perfection? “No. Stop _____. It’s time to grow up. They want me to be at least engaged within a year of graduating.”
Unlocking your phone, you take a photo of the files you had originally been slightly interested in discussing with your parents.
Hey, Mom, I’ve been thinking about picking a husband. What do you think of these three?
After sending the text, you give Shiemi a quick call to reassure her that you’re okay and not to worry. You rush to end the call and toss the phone across the room. Your eyes flicker to the files you’ve selected once again. “I hate this.” you groan, hurling them across the room as well.
------------------------------------------------------------
Your mother doesn’t reply until the next day, and it’s a call instead of a text. When you receive the call, you’re sitting with your friends for lunch.
“Hey, sweetheart, how are you?”
You lean against Shiemi as you answer. You really don’t want to talk about your potential future husband now, and you haven’t even told your friends yet. “Fine, I’m just having lunch. What’s up?”
“Oh, I’m calling regarding the message you sent. I’m pleased to hear that you’re finally considering it, but I have some unfortunate news.” Her voice carries a hint of detachment. “It’s about Hano-san.” She pauses, letting out a sigh. “Sadly, he passed away last night.”
You straighten, having trouble processing her words. “Huh?”
“Yes, it was a demon attack, but there aren’t any details. Nobody knows what demon it was; the only signs it was a demon were that he was found with his weapons drawn.”
Oh fuck.

Please may I have Blue exorcist platonic headcanons of being the older Okumura brother age 20 of Rin and Yukio Okumura and he is exactly like Minato Uzumaki from Naruto..he is a extremely nice big brother to them since they were newborns and it was clear who he had gotten his personality from. He had Rin's demonic features as well as his biological father's Blue flames (Satan's flames) and he is an First class Exorcist for his Dragoon User, Doctor and Tamer and Knight as his Meisters since the age of 7 and he had Minato's ability as well..which was his inhuman speed and he can see demons and understand Kuro and he is Rin's teacher. He isn't the type of person who lost his temper but he was the type of person who got certainly serious when he wasn't messing about..and he never lost his temper but he does get disappointed with someone. Yes, he is a skillful fighter..Shiro had taught him well.
He was 5 years old when the blue night incident occurred and he had lost his mother that day too to childbirth and it was also around that time that Shiro took the Okumura siblings in and he had a hard time in the beginning due to the loss of his mother..and adjusting to a different life..to be fair..life wasn't exactly the best for him in Section 13. He helped Shiro raise his younger brothers after his mother's passing to the best of his ability and had defended Yukio from bullying and calmed Rin down when Shiro was unable to.
Relationships:
Satan's relationship with his son who at least tried to show him the same kindness as Yuri as he is Yuri's son.
Yuri Egin's relationship with her little boy before her passing
Shura Kirigakure's relationship with him..she had first met him when he was only 3.
Shiro Fujimoto's relationship with his adopted son
Rin Okumura's relationship with his older brother from childhood to now
Yukio Okumura's relationship with his older brother from childhood to now
Ryūjj Suguro's relationship with his teacher
Konekomaru Miwa's relationship with his teacher
Renzō Shima's relationship with his teacher
Shiemi Moriyama's relationship with her teacher
Izumo Kamiki's relationship with her teacher
Mephisto's relationship with his "brother"
Kuro's relationship with Rin's big brother
minato!reader
Life with their big brother, you, was nice.
You always made things simple, easy to understand.
It was like, when they were with you, life wasn't so bad
The real world wasn't scary.
Yukio and Rin were glad to have a big brother like you
However, life for you, wasn't as easy despite trying your hardest to make it easy for your younger siblings
For example...
Your father hated you, he hates you almost with a undying passion. It scared you in the beginning
But soon realized that it meant nothing
He could send demons after you all he wants, you were strong
You could handle it
Your mother, on the other hand, loved to spoil you rotten
And you liked to be spoiled
When she passed away, it was like your heart was ripped out
But you made a promise nonetheless
A promise to spoil your brothers just as much as she had spoiled you
Shura thought you were annoying at first
A kind smile and a kind heart
No one should be that kind even after everything you've been through
As she grew older though, she learned that that wasn't kindness
But something different. Something dangerous
She never wanted to get on your bad side
Shiro didn't know how to handle you
You were independent
Could take care of yourself and your brothers.
Through most of your life, he wondered if you would ever need him
Though, he soon realized that you did.
If only ever to say "I love you" and "I'm proud of you, son"
Rin and Yukio look up to you. Whatever you do they try to copy
It was always cute to see and you liked indulging them
Their classmates were also fun, as you come to realize as you would sometimes substitute in for Yukio when he would be sent on a mission
It was obvious that Rin had a crush on Shiemi
And it was obvious that Rin and Suguro got into a lot of fights with Rin usually showing off how stupid he was...
But it was fine. You were sure.
His classmates liked you as a teacher.
You were both patient and helpful. A lot like your younger brother Yukio (though, you were a bit less scary than him...)

As Above, So Below - One Hell of a First Day
Rin Okumura x OC
Chapter 1
———————————————————
Today is a new day. New school, new classes, new friends! It is so overwhelming I want to cry! But yet here I am, with a magical key in some random lock apparently about to enter the Exorcist Cram School. Deep breath in…out…3…2…1…I turn the key and open the door.
The gigantic hallway is covered in a dark toned repeating colour pattern. It's almost nausea inducing how big this place is. Yet, I found the classroom. After opening the door, I’m guided to the front of the room. “Everyone, meet Mx Ren Turner. As of today they will be joining us. Please make them feel welcomed.” the teacher turns to me ‘You can sit down now.’ and so I do.
A past quiz is handed out, so I adjust my gear; notebook, pen, silent button stim toy (held in my lap so I don’t distract anyone), and scrap paper for whatever my brain decides. And at that moment, it decided it was for little 5-petaled flowers from one corner outwards. “Mx Turner, question for you. What is a use for wormwood?” I lift my head up to answer “Aside from a mosquito repellent? Protection from the evil eye.” Mr Okumura smiles “Both are correct. It's my understanding you’re already qualified for the Exquire exam, yes?” A deep sigh escapes my lips and everyone turns to me. “Yeah…my parents are exorcists so I was homeschooled on it since I was a kid.” Thankfully, sir moves on.
My parentage is an interesting one. I was adopted when I was really young but my birth parents still stayed in contact. I grew up calling them my Aunty Sam and Uncle Ariel until I was 7. That's when the whole truth came out about me. Born to be a soldier of God. Still may become one if I do well in becoming an exorcist. So, when I say my parents are exorcists, I mean my birth ones. And by ‘are exorcists’, I mean 2 of the head soldiers (or generals) of God. Or as humans like to call us, angels.
Sir comes around handing out slips for the Exquire Exam Bootcamp. The dark haired boy in front of me walks over to the huddle of boys. “Hey..can you explain all this to me?” I jump up and stand with me “Me too? This I was never told about.” The split-dyed hair boy, Bon, grumbles about how we don't know. His friend, Konekomaru, gives an explanation on ‘mysters’. When the dark haired boy, Rin, and I give yet another confused look, Bon loses his cool and snaps about the different mysters, “There are 5 mysters; aria, doctor, dragoon, knight, and tamer. Aria recites passages, doctors heal, dragoons use firearms, tamers summon familiars, and knights fight with a freaking sword!” I roll my eyes at the sass given “Well thank you Bon, but you didn't need to be an ass about it.” I get up and go back to my desk, leaving Bon to grumble about me calling him both Bon and an ass.
Ariel would be an aria while Sam a tamer. They’ll each want me to take after each other respectively but…ever since getting into small blades as a special interest and even having a pair of stiletto daggers that I can use…would that count as Knight?
——
Second period, I’m introduced to Mr Noihaus. The summoning/familiar teacher. He hands out little squares of paper with a summoning circle on it and instructs us to drop some blood on it to attempt to summon a familiar. Only 2 people are able to get it to work. Miss Kamiki with a pair of white foxes and Miss Shiemi with a little greenman. I know Sam is able to summon demons and a familiar, though I don’t know if that's because she’s an angel of death or if it's just her. Either way, I pretend it didn’t work just to be safe. I’m not in the mood to accidentally summon the wrong thing.
——
That evening, I try to find my dorm room “603…603…” I mutter scanning the hallways. Since I’m non-binary, Mephisto bent some rules to allow me to stay in the almost abandoned boys dorm. I’m one of 3 students apparently and since it’s a decent size there’s a super low chance of us interacting and it being awkward.
“Hey!” Shit. “Hey…I’m Ren- RIN?!” Double shit. He sheepishly smiles and rubs the back of his neck. “Yeah…Hi. I guess we’re gonna be seeing each other more often now.” “Aye. Uh, if you’re not busy. Can you help me find room 603?” “Oh sure! That’s next to Yukio and mine’s room.” Oh very shit. “Huh…how about that.” I am rooming next to my classmate and my teacher who is my classmate's younger twin brother.
20 minutes later my room is set up. “Is this your family?” Rin asks, staring at a photo on my pin board. “Uh…kinda. They’re my adopted parents. On the other side of me are my birth parents. We’re originally from Australia, but my mum got a better job offer in Japan so now we’re here. Have been since I was a kid.” Even though the chance of a roommate is very low, I’ve still only used half the room just in case. “Oh, just so you know. We have a stove spirit living in our kitchen called Ookubok. He cooks most of our food so if there's stuff you can’t eat or something you should probably let him know.” I make a mental note of that. With food sensory issues, I’ll need to tell this Ookubok. And just introduce myself in general. “Oh ok, thanks.” We are left in a still silence that I’m ok with but Rin seems tense. “Well! I’m next door if you need me.” Rin starts to walk out. “Yeah…Wa-Wait!” He turns around ‘thank you…’ “heh, no problem!” And with that he leaves.
——
The next day, the twins and I wait outside our dorm building for everyone to show up for the bootcamp. “Why is it in our dorm again?” Rin grumbles “Because we’re the only ones here and so won’t disturb anyone. Also convenience.” Yukio nods in agreement “So, what class are you in for the Academy, Turner?” I shake my head “Yeah nah, I’m only in the cram school. Once again, I was homeschooled for most of the normal school stuff.”
The rest of our Cram class show up. “Your class has arrived!” Shima grins and waves. “Turner? How did you get here first?” Bon asks, confused. See, what he's seeing is his feminine appearing classmate lounging around at the old boys dorm. Meaning either I just got here sooner than them (because I don't have normal classes) or something is going on between one of the twins and I. Well, jokes on him, it's a secret third option. “Oh me? This is my dorm too.” I stand up and head into the building with no explanation, leaving everyone confused. They may hear the gender neutral terms being used for me, but they haven’t actually been told. And you know what? I’m gonna keep this up for as long as possible. Rin follows after me. “Let's get this over with.”
——
“Time's up! Turn over your papers and hand them in please”. Yukio’s voice snaps through the silence the room was in and is followed up by a string of groans and mumbles from the class. ‘I want everyone up at 6am tomorrow morning. That’ll give us an hour to go over the test answers.’ Rin, looking dead, mumbled and leaves the room. Kamiki, Paku, and Shiemi all file out excitedly talking about a bath. “Hehe. 3 girls taking a bath. Together! I what do ya say guys we bust our ass over and get a peak!” Shima remarks. I get up behind him and whack him over the back of the head “Hello, we’re supposed to be monks!” “You’re getting back into your bad habits again…” Bon and Konekomaru groan. “Oh come on y’all are just as curious as I am- er, except maybe you Ren.” I sigh with my head in my hands. “Excuse me? Your teacher is sitting right here.” Yukio reminds them, uncomfortable with the conversation. “You might be our teacher but you’re still a freshman just like us~” “Ok!! I’m leaving” I groan. ‘Boys are bloody gross…’
While making my way to my dorm, I run into Rin and Shiemi talking. “...She is the first friend I’ve ever had! You don’t get it…you’ve always had friends, you’ve always been strong!” Shiemi fires back and runs off. Poor girl…I make moves to follow her. I know that feeling of not having friends. Maybe she’ll let me be hers. Rin also goes after her, possibly for a similar reason.
Just as he catches her wrist, a scream rips through the corridor from the girls bathroom. Rin and I both take off with Shiemi behind. When we enter the room, Paku is unconscious on the tiled floor with a ghoul above her. Rotten saliva drips from its mouth and has seemingly given Paku a temptate. Kamiki is standing frozen in her under clothes, her fox familiars turned on her and lunging. Rin lands a punch with one while I deck the other. “Tear up the paper!” Rin shouts. Shiemi enters and gets straight to work on Paku, her little green man sprouting aloe to help.
Rin and I take to the ghoul. While he beats it with his sheathed sword, I take to scratching it with one of my daggers. It throws me against a wall and Rin through the doors into the bathing area. It gurgles something at Rin and I throw myself back at the demon. Rin’s able to wriggle himself out of the ghoul’s grip. “Pitiful soldier…” it groans at me. It knows what I am…can it sense it? I move to have my blade make contact with it. Instead, it gets me and tears across my shirt. 4 gunshots echo through the bathroom. “Yukio!” I call in relief. The ghoul retreats. “You’re late!” Rin sasses “I got here didn’t I?” Yukio goes and checks on Paku, who seems to have just started to wake up.
Rin walks over to me and hands me a dagger I didn’t even notice I’d dropped. “Your shirt…are you ok?” I take the dagger and slip it into its holster in my boot. “Yeah I’m fine. Just got my shirt.” He slips his off and hands it to me “Put this on. You look uncomfortable.” I smile and take it from him. It's a loose fit on me. “Thanks.” I turn to leave, but the small sniffles from a hunched body behind the lockers stops me. “Kamiki?” “Don’t look at me!” she cries. And cries she does. She lets it all out. I sneak out her shirt from her locker and pass it to her. “Here…It’s ok. We all freeze sometimes.” I make my way out of the room, but I can still just hear the confused discussion on how Rin is now suddenly shirtless.

Can you draw shiemi putting flowers in rin's hair? Also, what's your fave rinshi moment?
hello! thanks for the ask! omg I love that idea! YES I'll totally try to draw that! I need to! Shiemi the type to make him flower crowns and accessories all the time, no complaints from Rin he loves it! in fact I see Rin as the type to show off to all their friends anything Shiemi does for him like that lol (Shiemi totally I can see making him cute accessories for his tail to hehe)
okay that's a harder question! because my brain tends to think of each moment as integral to their whole relationship, this is RinShi to me every small moment that leads to their growing bond/friendship and the things that makes them slowly realize how much they need one another in each other's lives and how painful the thought of not having each other is! so I will take this opportunity to complete a challenge my good friend @nneefa came up with of naming our top 5 RinShi moments (I started this forever ago back in my RinShi server when she asked lmao so I’m glad to have the chance to complete it!)
it end up long so I’m gonna add a read more
1) first is the Dance With Me scene every time, the tenderness of it all you can basically HEAR how he says "dance with me, Shiemi" no feelings hidden, no holding back to the point when he said that Shiemi, who brushed away even the NOTION Rin might "like" her reconsidered, they spent time with Yukio and had genuine fun and Shiemi... this is the REAL first spark and moment Shiemi confessed she likes Rin, she just didn't realize what it meant yet or how to decipher what it meant and what those growing feelings would blossom into, it was small but beautiful
Chapter 47
just look at them my heaaaaaart!
2.) When Shiemi told Rin she liked his flames, and was just comfortable leaning on him without even thinking and he impulsively told her he likes her. multiple reasons here, but let's start with: Shiemi told Rin one of the things people fear the most, was beautiful. his flames associated for many, including his own internal fears about them/because his heritage and she saw them and told him "it's pretty, Rin, I like your flame" and "it's warm and soothing" she's the first person to tell him his flames are good, she sees beauty and warmth and comfort in something normally feared. and he gets caught up in the moment because he thinks she said she likes him, and in a pure sweet moment with the one person to ever tell him his flames are pretty/warm he confesses a deep, slowly ever growing affection and love he has for her. he's smitten even if things don't turn out as he might have hoped and this all leads to a good thing down the line, because he allowed himself to be vulnerable and tell her.
Chapter 73
this moment while bumpy, is important!
3) this one might come as a shock, but it’s the rejection scene, but hear me out! Rin means so, so much to Shiemi and just the same you see how much Shiemi means to him too come through in this part, you get to see a true selfless love from them both!
just listen, okay so like, thinking when Shiemi rejected Rin, here’s a significant thing that always stood out to me about that part, she wanted to ask Rin to wait for her while she figures things out, she never wanted to reject him and it pained her to do so but she felt selfish at the idea of having him wait around while she figures out and navigates her feelings and how jumbled up she felt since it’s all so new to her.
it hurt her rejecting him, he means so much to her, he’s one of her best friends and she has no idea how this will also affect their friendship moving forward
but than probably what she least expected: Rin’s reaction to what she says and after a little shock he goes right to reassuring her no matter what they are friends. It's not just about whether she likes him romantically back, she’s enough even if they are only ever friends. just building up to telling him she wasn’t ready had to be so hard, but he took something she felt bad about and made sure she knows she matters, in all ways to him.
that is what defines true love for me: wanting to be in each other’s lives no matter what!
and like wanna point out: it hurt for both of them, Rin didn’t just stop all of a sudden having feelings for her but he was mature enough to put them aside to reassure someone he cares that much for and let her know their friendship isn’t just about whether or not they fall in love, but what she means to him already and just being in his life is enough
and hers was about as much as hurting Rin by rejecting him felt/her fears of affecting their friendship and maybe messing it up, she was selfless enough to allow them both space and not have him wait around with promises she’s unsure she can keep while she’s still discovering where her affections lie as she’s still learning about friendship, love and all things in-between.
it’s a big moment that makes way for maturing and growing into themselves too I fell
Chapter 82
Chapter 83
4) okay this one you’ll see why and it’s more sad than anything: when Rin burned up by his own flames and everyone saw him literally die in front of them
Shiemi’s reaction, her hand shaking, when he first started catching on fire and Izumo had to hold Shiemi back from jumping in to try to help as she’s screaming his name and crying, Rin was being hurt and just... that had to traumatize her! (everyone else too but I’m focusing on Shiemi and Rin specifically) this part is a nightmare for her, dare say she thought she lost her best friend
also this will lead into my 5th top moment but almost losing Rin is part of what made her realize she loves him, she had a moment like this she thought he was gone for good and than after he came back he wasn’t his usual self at first and had to be put into a position to defend her and her friends, all still while processing everything, which again had to add this fear she was losing him
it’s just... everything here and I think my words are almost unneeded to describe why all of this part gets to me, but one day I’ll make a proper analysis exploring my thoughts better on this.
Chapter 97
Chapter 98
5) and I’m sure you might be able to guess the fifth moment, it’s in chapter 99 and that’s everything coming full circle and Shiemi realizing she loves Rin too, and I truly believe almost losing him is a big moment why it finally hit her, Rin is a best friend, someone she trusts and can goof off with, she’s gotten to know him through good and bad and slowly but surely those feelings have been evolving and growing for them both and her realizing yes she loves him as a friend, but there’s also something new something she’s never felt: she LOVES him, she has feelings for him, she does like him romantically back
you get to see all these different moments play in her mind: from their first meeting to the present! and I’m gonna try and reword what I've said on this topic before in my server and what I feel is the significance of each moment that flashed in Shiemi’s mind when she realized she loves Rin back each moment that flashes in her mind is important and as I said in the start, this is part of why I view every moment as pivotal for their growth and where they are now, their bond growing, them encouraging one another, caring for each other when they are hurting, misunderstandings that hurt because thinking it would strain their friendship, moments Rin’s caring about her meant a lot to her
they aren’t scenes explaining one facet of their relationship: but the good times, the sad times, the hard times, the sweet moments and confusion
they all come together to make her realize: she loves him, and never wants to lose him again
and than comes the really sad part and our current circumstances: she thinks it’s too late, she waited too long to realize and things are out of her control, she loves him and now he’s out of reach. and realizing hurts, because why NOW of all times
I’ve seen others say they thought Izumo mentioning that she thinks Shiemi likes Rin was what made her come to the conclusion, but I’ve always found that take to miss the fact Izumo was just pointing out what she could tell
slowly and subconsciously the love Shiemi has for Rin has been building without Shiemi realizing, she grew up isolated and with very few people she talked to besides one friend and with that, it’s no wonder it took her time to work through all her new experiences and bonds to finally realizing what she has with Rin is a type of love that’s new to her
it’s friendship, but also romantic it doesn’t have to be one without the other.
Chapter 99
I have so many thoughts and feelings on all this and especially wanna properly i depth analyze all these and other moments more, or more accurate to say: I wanna from the ground up analyze Rin/Shiemi as a whole from beginning to where they are now (and chapter 99 my feelings on each moment and what they mean to Shiemi)
but today it’s definitely not gonna happen, but it is my goal this year! I know this got long but thank you for the ask and I know this got long and analytical but thank you for your message inspiring me to be able to put more into words some of the things that makes RinShi just so compelling to me, how these characters bond has grown and every step of the way made me love them more, in their growing love for each other and their growing into more mature people from the positive impact they’ve had for one another both when a part and together!

An Exorcist Dance - Yukio Okumura
Author Note: So this is a break from the Arima, Nobuchika, William and Claude. am I right? I remember first watching Blue Exorcist with my Twin and my god did I fall for that show. It was probably one of my first Anime's. I just read the Manga and Yukio will always be my favourite. Followed by Mephisto and Shiro Fujimoto.
“You’re coming too Yuki?” Shiemi extolled as they made their way through the cram school corridors. Truth be told the younger Okumura had no idea what she was questioning him about and if he hadn’t had a bad feeling in his stomach, he would have said yes there and then. He exhaled as he paused the thoughts that had been distracting him.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t paying attention” Yukio confessed, he let his hand fall on the back of his neck as he smiled at his student. Anyone else would’ve been fine with it but he saw the disheartened expression that crossed over her features, and if he saw it so had his brother. He felt the impact before he registered it. The harsh thump had ricocheted pain through his arm.
“The exorcist dance, you know sort of like a prom or a ball. Like in one of those nerdy manga books you read” Rin jabbed. Yukio had no intention of attending a dance; he had never attended one voluntarily before, usually he would be working or studying.
“I’m sorry, I’m working on the day of the dance,” He apologised; he felt Shiemi sadden before she turned her attention to Rin.
“You’re coming though Rin; we could go together?” Shiemi raved. She hadn’t noticed the meaning of her words, or the way Rin’s body stiffened, and his blood pooled in his cheeks. Without speaking he nodded. Yukio stifled the laugh that threatened to cause ruckus through the air.
“No fair, I was going to ask you that” Yukio caught the mumbled whine that left Rin as they entered the classroom. He watched as his brother slunk his way into his seat, his pride damaged. The youngest Okumura glanced over the rest of the class; the girls sat off to one side whilst the boys nursed their wounds. It was clear Shima had once again asked Izuku to a dance, and perhaps Bon had asked [Y/N]. No Yukio refused to let that image enter his mind, but he didn’t stop the sense of joy that pricked at his mouth when he took in Bon’s rejected features.
“Well class, today I’ll be giving you back your recent Pharmaceuticals quiz- “Yukio began, his words fell short at the sudden crash. His head shooting towards the source. He watched as Mephisto’s form entered the classroom. This had become more than a common occurrence. For a second, he contemplated that the demon was keeping a particularly close eye on his lessons.
“I’m sure you’re all excited for the coming dance and I just wanted to stop by and inform you that everyone should be in attendance, no excuses.” Mephisto practically sung as he addressed the students. “Even you [Y/n], I’m glad to see your injuries from the recent exorcism have healed nicely.”
Recent injuries. Yukio’s head shot towards her. Worry swarmed the teen as he registered the bandage just peeking out the cuffs of her sleeve. He’d sat in a room with her for hours on end each day and not once had he noticed her wince in pain, nor had he heard about her going out on any exorcisms. She wasn’t cleared for any-
“Mr Okumura,” Mephisto’s voice snapped him clear of his thoughts. “Miss Moriyama informed me you’re working the day of the ball. Everyone is to attend, given how hard you’ve all worked recently, I think you deserve the break as well. Wouldn’t you agree?”
“Uh, yes.” Yukio agreed. He’d let Mephisto win this time.
“I’ll be off then. I declare the cram school cancelled for today, we’ve got a dance to prepare for” Mephisto grinned.
“Don’t forget to grab your tests on your way out” Yukio barked as they all but ran from their seats. He observed them as they went, his eyes moving to the next as they picked through the pile of papers. Until the last left was hers, he watched as she cautiously stood, a brief wince falling across her face. She wasn’t in pain, she just…well he could see her eyes looking everywhere but him. “You got hurt on an exorcism” he croaked.
“If I’d told you Mephisto asked me to go on an exorcism you would’ve asked to join, plus I had Shura supervising me. It’s just the exorcism was in my hometown.” She smiled. She made her way to the front, her hand reaching for the paper. “Anyway Mr Okumura, I don’t think it matters what I do in my free time, considering how our last conversation went.”
This time Yukio winced. He felt the sharp blade of guilt turn in his gut. He called her impulsive and reckless when she stood against Amaimon. If Rin hadn’t caught the Demon’s attention your injuries could have been catastrophic. He felt his harsh shouts echo through the room as though the walls had remembered them.
“I-“He paused, his mouth closing as he looked down.
“If it helps, the anger from that argument helped me kick serious backside on the field. Especially when I was trapped between a rock and a demon. I won’t bore you with the details, I’m sure you’ll find the reports somewhere. Thanks for the test Mr Okumura, I guess I’ll see you at the dance tomorrow.”
Yukio hadn’t slept that night; he hadn’t even been conscious through his training that day as he kept pinging back to her words. He should’ve just told her why he’d been so angry after that incident. Not only had his brother lost control and been taken away in cuffs but his students had been injured. He’d been helpless in that moment caught between the threat and protecting them. He held seniority in that situation with Shura indisposed. Yet he let her antagonise Amaimon, whilst he patched the others up. She’d been hurt because he couldn’t get to his guns quick enough, she’d been both hurt and saved by his brother in the space of a minute.
Yukio stood with his back against a wall as the dance began. He hadn’t registered people trying to gain his attention as he swam in his own thoughts. He hadn’t noticed Rin and Shiemi laughing as they approached him in an attempt to get him to loosen up. To remember that right now he was still a teenager and that even the other Exorcists were letting themselves enjoy the night.
“It takes some level of antisocial to be stood in the dark at a dance.” Her voice had been the only one to ripple against his thoughts. His eyes blinked a few times before he straightened up. He smiled feebly at her. How long had she been stood there? How long had it been since he’d arrived, by the looks of the exhausted crowd it had been a while? The dancefloor had been all but abandoned with only a few remaining people dancing with one another. “Here I got you a drink but then from the looks of the teachers I think Mephisto may have spiked it. I’d give it a pass.”
“That clown” Yukio grumbled. “I’ve been thinking and about the other day. After the whole Amaimon fight. It was wrong of me-“ She stopped him. A hand on his shoulder squeezing firmly.
“Mr Okumura- Yukio its fine. I was angry too; they carted your brother off and Mephisto wouldn’t say anything. I asked him to give you a break and before you get angry, it was my choice. I went on the exorcism in your place. These injuries are my fault. But I’m fine. So fine that I wanted to ask you something. Yukio Okumura, can I have this dance?” She interrupted him. He felt the anger bubble for a while as he let the information sink in. He sighed, his head dropping for a second before he nodded.
“I mean considering all of our classmates have passed out, sure. But really it should be me asking you. At least that’s what I’ve wanted to ask you for a while.” Yukio uttered. He held his hand out to her, his eyes peering at her over his glasses as he smiled. She placed her own hand in his as they stood to the side, there was no need to walk into the spotlight at least he hadn’t felt the need to do that. Instead, he pulled her close to him as the music lulled into a slow melody.
Her head fell against his shoulder as he held her tight, their bodies swaying together. He pulled himself closer to her, his head resting atop hers as his thoughts that had clouded his mind for days evaporated. Right this instance, all he could focus on was her.
“I’m sorry” He whispered; his lips ghosted over the top of her head as he listened to the music. “I wanted to do nothing more than run after you after our conversation, I wanted to apologise and tell you that I was mad because I’d failed as both a teacher and a friend. You were hurt on my watch and I let you put yourself in the line of danger. I was mad because you mean more to me than anything.”
“I waited” Her words fell in line with the rhythm as she lifted her head to look him in the eye. “I waited for a while outside the door. If it helps, I wanted to go back in the room, and both hit you and kiss you. If you failed as a teacher, then I failed as a student.” She smiled. He mirrored her smile. Both becoming aware of just how little space there was between their faces, and just as they felt the breath of the other heavy on their lips; a shriek tore them apart.
“Mr Okumura, seriously. You rejected me for him” Bon’s voice boomed from across the hall. The commotion had caught the attention of most of the other students, bar Shima who had fallen unceremoniously asleep across a few chairs.

Blue Exorcist 10th anniversary book Q&A session
The 10th anniversary book has a section where Katoh answers 100 questions submitted by fans on Twitter, so here they are translated/paraphrased! May contain manga spoilers up to the recent flashback arc, so be warned.
(Note that I’m playing it very fast and loose here because there are A HUNDRED OF THEM, so not exact wordings, but it should capture the gist. Lemme know if there are any you want elaborated on)
1. Katoh likes the feel of traditional drawing more than digital but is impressed with how far digital has come
2. Meph THOROUGHLY ABUSES spacetime to watch all his shows and ensure that he gets all the merch he wants
3. Did the girls take all of Yukio’s school uniform buttons in middle school? Yes, they did (apparently it’s like A Thing for girls to ask for a button from their crush at middle school graduation, based on some sad movie from the 60s where a guy who got drafted as a kamikaze pilot gave a girl one of his uniform buttons to remember him by)
4. Rin's tail is about a meter long
5. There are tons of servants working at Mephisto's mansion. Belial is in charge of them
6. Katoh borrows from all sorts of neat real locations when making settings
7. Katoh identifies with pretty much all the characters the most! Except Lucifer.
8. Demon designs she's proud of include the impure king and hachirou, pretty much anything that was the main one in an arc
9. Katoh lists a bunch of her favorite musical artists/music she’s listening to recently: King Gnu, Official Hige Dandism, Kenshi Yonezu, BAD HOP, Sakanaction, Keyakizaka 46, Hypnosis Mic, Aimer, B’Z, Queen Bee.
10. Awww the rabbit manga that characters are often reading isn't just Robo to Usakichi, it's an even older one that she drew as a little kid
11. She likes industrial style interior designs
12. Rin and Yukio alternated who got the top bunk growing up, because they couldn't agree on it lol
13. Katoh cares a whole lot about panel layouts and speech bubble positions, might even be her favorite part of the process (it shows!)
4. Katoh does NOT have a mashou, lol
15. Rin has probably been practicing in secret so he can learn to carry stuff with his tail
16. Izumo probably got into shojo manga around 1st grade, her mom had some around the house
17. Specialty dishes: Rin - lots of stuff but especially nabe Yuri - stuff you can throw together quickly Shiro - stuff he learned from Yuri and/or cookbooks, alongside teaching Rin Yukio - Does. Not. Cook.
18. Can't pick a favorite place she's been on research, but there's no place like Japan
19. Kinzou's band isn't currently meeting because demons, but he's probably still thinking of new songs
20. Hardest characters to draw: anyone with detailed flowing hair. Hardest to write for: Lightning and Gedouin. She had to go read books about serial killers specifically for material for Gedouin, lol
21. Suguro actually gets a dorm room to himself, though allegedly Yukio is technically assigned as his roommate, lol. Didn't end up that way what with Yukio being a teacher and also Rin’s whole...situation
22. Shiemi makes some of her own hair accessories! Cute
23. Katoh doesn't mind if you include stuff with fan letters but check with the editor first
24. Time for making each chapter: Planning/storyboarding: 1-5 days. Sketching: 3-5 days. Drawing/inking: the rest. Just...the rest of the time
25. Neither Suguro nor Izumo have dated before and neither is currently dating. But that's probably just because things were hectic for them! It could happen
26. Yukio breaks 5 or 6 pairs of glasses a year, someone get this kid a strap or something
27. How many spare glasses does Yukio have? Check the fanbook lol it's in there (dang it Katoh)
28. The demon she wants us to pay the most attention to is Lucifer. Because plot.
29. What's under the Order's big meeting table? It's a BOTTOMLESS PIT and if you fall in it you DIE that's what makes it COOL (laughs)
30. What are the job requirements for the angelic legion? Literally just Arthur liking you and inviting you to join
31. She WANTS to do more character profiles but just hasn't gotten to it
32. Rin's tail feels like a cat tail, texture wise
33. The "red Assiah fire" is literally just actual fire nothing special
34. Rin's current hair color is light blue fading to white at the ends
35. Thoughts on Rin's growth: she likes that he stays positive in awful situations and she also thinks it's very main character of him to face the past instead of avoiding it
36. Mephisto didn't purposely surround Rin with stuffed animals when he woke up after going crispy. Mephisto's bed is just Like That
37. Kurikara was based on a cool sword she found in a sword book, but that one was technically just a ceremonial sword. The symbol on it us a Sanskrit letter kaan (sp?) associated with Fudou Myouou
38. Kuro can communicate with normal cats and hangs out with them often
39. Sometimes Shiemi's skirt is extra fancy around the hem what's up with that? Apparently it's an optional accessory that comes with the skirts help I haven't noticed this and don't know any fashion terms in any language
40. When coloring, Katoh always tries to have an overall theme in mind ("emphasis on blue" etc) so it comes together in the end
41. Yes the twins are genetically related to Shiro because of Goro (she says they're like his nephews but I say GENETICALLY at least they'd be indistinguishable from his children)
42. Strongest mom of all the strong moms around here? Yuri! Did you SEE her give birth??
43. Are you careful about your own health Katoh-sensei? Not particularly! Her mom has had to bring her food at work sometimes! Don't do this at home kids
44. At the dating events Shura goes to, does she drink cocktails in moderation? Yeah, she probably downplays her normal drinking habits at these things. But normally she's down for just about any kind of drink
45. Lucifer just really likes oysters okay
46. How many pages of manga does Katoh draw in a day? If she's being good about self-care: three. Maximum number ever: TEN
47. Mephisto is one of those folks who can eat like a garbage compactor and never gain weight. Possibly because his body resists that sort of change the same way it resists aging etc
48. First food Rin cooked: fish burger type patty. Yukio's favorite things Rin cooks: fish simmered in soy sauce, yellowtail with daikon radish. It's fish all the way down
49: Did Rin ever get more monthly allowance from Mephisto? It doubled! He gets TWO 2000 yen bills now (rip) [T/N: That's uh, that's USD $37.26 a month or 33.10 euro]
50. Why isn't Rin more popular with the girls? He gets nervous talking to them, plus he's too oblivious to notice even if he DID have some fans
51. Why change Suguro's hair? She gets bored with keeping everything the same, and she wanted a visual representation that he was getting serious and going into kind of a training arc
52. Things Katoh pays extra attention to when drawing: trying to capture the feel of whatever she's drawing (like "that looks warm and soft" or "I bet that guy stinks" cough Lightning cough)
53: Does Rin take after Yuri more? (He's got her eyes!) Katoh tried to draw Yuri so she looks like both twins. Personality, too - Yukio has her smarts and Rin has her optimism
54: Do you ever wanna be like Mephisto? Well she'd like to be able to get away with just ANYTHING EVER, but no, let's not be like Mephisto
55. Konekomaru not only carries around a cat toy in case he meets any cats, he MAKES cat toys to carry around based on what he thinks the cats would like
56. How'd you come up with Shima? Go read the fan book!
57. Do the kids have Twitter/Instagram accounts? Rin - probably not. Konekomaru might be on some social media. Paku and Izumo are totally on instagram
58. Is there something Rin makes that you wish you could try? All of it! That's the whole idea! He's good at cooking!
59. Will we ever have a (G-rated) reveal of what ALL of Mamushi and her family's tattoos look like? Maybe! She'll think about it
60. Does Arthur have a repertoire of different hairstyles? Not really, he just puts some of it up on the top. Heck he might even have people to do that for him
61. If you wrote a shojo manga what would it be about? She'd have to do a lot of research before even coming up with a story, since there are so many style differences between the genres aside from just the subject
62. The other two of Mephisto's top 3 favorite foods: Cup ramen and....f-fried bubblegum?? Is that a THING???
63. Where do you start when drawing a character? Usually the outline of their face but if it's a complex pose/composition she'll start with whatever's in the foreground (like hands)
64. If Katoh could have a familiar, what demon would she choose? Mephisto. As the all-powerful author, she might actually be able to command him as a familiar!
66. If you swapped Yukio and Rin's relationship around what would change? not much, you'd pretty much have Rin going to the Illuminati and Yukio going to the past
67. Top 3 foods/souvenirs to try in Kyushu? Well she doesn't know what’s good CURRENTLY but when she was there she always used to like burdock tempura udon, hakata torimon (a kind of manju with white bean paste inside), and Chikae style cod roe. today I learned Katoh went to high school in Kyushu
68. Katoh listens to music a lot while she's storyboarding, then when she and the assistants are all drawing and inking they put various videos/movies and stuff on in the background
69. For all his hitting on girls, is Shima actually popular with the ladies at all? He's got enough girls in his life that he probably COULD find a girlfriend if he really wanted, but the double agent thing tends to get in the way. He still wouldn't be as popular as Yukio though (side thought/translator’s note: Shima would be proud of being number 69.)
70. Katoh has the ending planned out in a big-picture way, but there are still a few details here and there that she's fretting over
71. It's cute when the boys put their ties over their shoulders when they're working on something! Where'd that come from? She just figured a tie might get in the way and that seemed like a realistic way to get it out of the way
72. Looks like Yukio is getting some facial hair! What about Rin? They're both about the age for it, but maybe Rin can't grow a beard yet. Maybe a little peach fuzz here and there
73. Katoh's favorite blue exorcist merch? There were some exorcist licenses a while back, and the exorcist pins. Basically it's really cool that these little accessories she drew ACTUALLY EXIST NOW, LIKE YOU CAN HOLD THEM IN YOUR HANDS
74. Okay realtalk how long do we have left, I don't want the series to end yet? We're solidly in the second half by now but it's not, like, ABOUT to end yet
75. Katoh would be a Knight meister, based on what characters she likes to play in games and such
76. How many people in the whole exorcism cram school? More than you think! She doesn't give a number but apparently licensed exorcists also attend classes for new meisters, etc, so there's a wide age range attending
77. How's Arthur feel about, like, studying Taming on the way to becoming Paladin? He's at least mostly accepted that you have to use demons to fight demons effectively
78. Konekomaru started wearing glasses in his first year of middle school, so like 7th grade (more recent than I thought!) He has one spare pair, in contrast to Yukio lol
79. Katoh's current obsessions? Ghost/scary stories! She's even been going to live readings of them recently
80. Media Katoh consumes for inspiration? A wide range of foreign teen drama, horror/suspense, shojo manga, light novels, anime, etc. Special focus on things where two boys are in conflict or there are brothers involved
81. If they weren't exorcists what jobs would they have? Rin - chef. Yukio - doctor. Shiemi - uh, florist?
82. Inspiration for the design of True Cross Town? Katoh and her assistants gathered up a bunch of references, picked out stuff they felt matched the tone, and mashed them all up together
83. Did you use any references etc for the school/exorcist uniforms? She says she probably should have but she just kind of made them up before publication
84. Favorite part of drawing? For color pages, picking out a color scheme. For black and white, drawing in all the little details (though she doesn't always get time to lately)
85. Once again confirms the demon kings' weird hair is a representation of their horns. ADDS THAT PEOPLE WHO CAN'T SEE DEMONS CAN'T SEE THE WEIRD HAIR
86. Now that Yukio's at the Illuminati, where's he gonna get his Jump SQ and spare glasses? Well he probably never planned to stay for long, but hey it's a big ship and they might have an optometrist and/or newsstand there
87. Do you base the demon characters on any references etc? Not really, she just gets a general idea of popular demon designs and then makes up her own in her own style
88. Merchandise Katoh personally wants to have made: stuff that an adult could just use in their day to day life. Also, it's not gonna happen, but if her favorite figure brand made AoEx figures she could die happy
89. If Beelzebub's host body was a beautiful woman, how would Shima react? Would the womanizing win out over the bug phobia? Katoh replies that Shima would probably just faint from being near a girl that pretty, before the bugs even got involved
90. Will the twins ever get to smile and eat dinner together again?? We'll just have to wait and see!
91. What do you check at a "scenario check"? what's a scenario check man I dunno They check for people being out of character or the setting feeling off. They had a lot of these checks for the anime, but they also do them for the drama CD, games, and all that other stuff where multiple authors are involved
92. Why does Shura use baldy as an insult for people who are clearly not bald? She feels like they have some kind of metaphorical, mental kind of "baldness" and she's calling them out on it. Whatever that means
93. After Blue Exorcist ends, what do you want to draw next? She has SO MANY IDEAS, SO MANY
94. Did Katoh make up the Shinto chants that, for example, Izumo used against Gedouin? They're assembled from bits of actual Shinto prayers according to what feels right in the scene
95. Yukio reads the Jump SQ, right, and, just hear me out here, he likes gag manga, right? Does this mean he reads Salaryman Yukio? It's something he would read, but let's say that in the AoEx universe there's just a very similar manga that he finds oddly relatable
96. What do Yukio and Shima do in their free time on the Dominus Liminus? oh my god you guys this ship has so many amenities. Yukio probably spends time reading in the library, which they totally have. There's also, like, a gym, and a movie theater, and a THEATER theater, all of which are free. Shima probably hangs out at the pool (!) and goes to the movies, and hits on illuminati girls, lol
97. Easiest character to draw? The ones with boring simple hair, lol. Lightning gets an honorable mention for ALSO not having eyes in most shots, but Rin wins--he was specifically designed to be easy for Katoh to draw because that's what you want in your main character
98. How do demons understand gender? They just possess whatever feels like the best match to how they feel in Gehenna, whether that's a man, or a woman, or a rat, or whatever
99. Where do you start when you're coming up with a story? She starts with character design and how the characters relate to each other. Currently she's just continuing an existing story, so she works on splitting up the overall plot into episodes and fleshing it out with scenes and information about characters
100. When do you feel most happy? She honestly feels like she lives a very happy life overall. Mentions noticing a lot of little things, like how nice her cats' heads smell when she cuddles them or taking a nice cold refreshing drink of water. There's happiness in everything. aww.

🔖But seriously he'll try and keep his second gender a secret, he doesn't want to be looked down on by anyone.
🔖You can't tell me otherwise!
🔖But when he met you his omega senses clicked right in. Your strong, brave, a little mean but also bit of a temper bitch.
🔖But perfect
🔖Taking suppressments, acting all high and mighty not letting anyone press him down
🔖Being a fake alpha
🔖Your alpha like status made your profile shine, not just that your one hell of a knight and tamer. Best in the class
🔖He wanted you to take him as your mate then and there. But he had to ignore his instincts and use his head.
🔖What made things difficult was his doubts and uncertaint thoughts. That wasn't all that held him back you both had things to do, important things to focus on and dreams to achieve.
🔖Fuck no! That's not what holds him back!
🔖Your freaking last name is holding him back!!!
🔖Pheles, bloody hell you had to be the clown's kid.
🔖He wanted nothing to do with Mephisto anymore the clown was enough, but you were nothing like that guy completely different that what he fell for
🔖Your personality, the way you are, he didn't just desire your body for sexual use or his heat. He wanted you as a person to love and care for, making you happy is all he wants.
🔖But it'll never happen. His a demon and his afraid to tell you that.
🔖Later on something kept running on his mind, if your Mephisto's kid and his a demon are you one two
🔖Have he not seen it or something?
🔖So he went straight to the source and ask Mephisto himself it was irritating talking to the clown but what piss him off more was that Mephisto answered him with a question
🔖"Why is it that you wanna know?. Mr okumura."
🔖"Come on man just tell me, stop beating around the bushes and tell me!"
🔖"So rude. Yes (Y/n) is indeed blood related to me, so what do you think?"
🔖He was lost for words he was happy and worried at the same time.
🔖Could you be together if you know about him
🔖Your already great friends have a lot of fun together enjoying time doing stupid shit when you two are chilling together both your IQ's drops to one, but being near one and other just felt right to him.
🔖Finally working up the courage to ask you out.
🔖This guy went all out! brought roses dressed in the nicest hoodie he owns did his hair even wrote a speech that took a week to finish
🔖It all flopped, he got nervous suttering not making sense at all, the words that left his mouth came out as wrong as if his chatterbox broke. His palms all sweaty smudging the ink on them making it hard to tell what he wrote.
🔖You just stood there with a smirk trying not to burst into laughter, the second he came to you with roses dress like a slop you already know that he wants to ask you out.
🔖You just sat back enjoying the show.
🔖It was cute, but started getting annoying.
🔖You had to sush him placing your hands on his cheeks, "it's okay chill, Rin. Yes I will go out with you." Those few words made him the happiest omega alive, he couldn't ask for more. Maybe ask your dad to fuck off cause Mephisto was peaking his out from a corner behind you.
🔖But his happy.
🔖When you two started dating it was a little confusing all the couple stuff not knowing what to do or what's right or wrong, what your partner wants or likes.
🔖You where all cool and relax about it figuring things out along the way... on the other hand Rin was dumb as fuck, he didn't know shit he even took exstra time Googling what couples does?
🔖When he finally found the perfect blog that shoot his taste, he started experimenting. With hugs
🔖He loves hugging you from behind pressing his chest against your back and hocking his arms around your waist, rubbing his cheek against yours.
🔖But you prefer, embarrassing him making him blush. You hug him normally wrapping your arms around his waist pressing your bodies against each other his face in your neck and your in his, but your hands though goes straight down to his buttcheeks giving them a squeeze
🔖He blushes fifty shades of red!!! No end becoming all defensive and making no sense, but secretly he likes it.
🔖With hugs comes cuddling, but your form of cuddling is a bit different whenever he is busy or chilling you just lazily get on him.
🔖In cram school you sometime lean on his side wrapping your arms around him protective, when his studies you sit on his lap facing him as your bodies press together he rests his chin on you shoulder looking at his work, when he lays on the bed you just flop on him no matter what position just fall on him
🔖Holding hands, no big deal you two use to do it a lot before dating, just taking each other's hand in the mall or in public making sure not to lose each other in big open places
🔖It came naturally to you two not one of you are embarrassed or nervous. It was okay
🔖Next's was kissing, he expected a normal peck on the lips, but from you he got the best make out session of his life, but what he hates the most is when your angry that you found a new way to cool yourself down.
🔖Yes you kiss him just a normal average kiss, but to get to the kiss you suddenly without any warning whatsoever grab a hand full of his hair forcefully pull his face near yours.
🔖At least his happy you don't curse or kick random things around you or break whatever is in your hand if your holding something that is, as much as you used to before.
🔖When eating together you and Rin started sharing food without knowing, at times making each other taste your food or genuinely splitting a milkshake.
🔖Rin is actually very simple, pretty much gullible and naive at times, so taking him on a date is pretty easy you once took him too the aquarium and he had a blast like a 5 year old kid, so next time just take him to the zoo, he'd run around pointing silly things out and do all the things mention for kids.
🔖You guys take naps together all the time, just shows how much you enjoy each other company but it's best to find a different napping place other than during class.
🔖Rin is good at cooking we all know that, he loves to bake but you not so much. Your father is freaking Mephisto Pheles ofcourse your going to love junk food just as much as the clown does. You rather have instant ramen than eat a full course meal Rin took hours to make just cause you hate homemade meals.
🔖One thing that Rin will never stop is wearing your oversized hoodies it has you scent all over it making it feel like home to him, not just that he likes getting you two matching outfits or secretly pick out your outfit for the day. He even brought matching bracelets which you love thinking it's cute your omega wants to show his love
🔖You love reading and it makes you relax jumping into a new world, while Rin lays on your chest between your thighs sometime taking short naps or not, while you run your fingers through his hair letting him enjoy the little massage
🔖But.. You suddenly get pissed and either through the book or literally take a lighter wanting to burn the book which he has to stop you.
🔖 When the others found out about your relationship they where actually suprised it took them this long, especially Yukio.
🔖in all honesty Yukio tried giving Rin the talk, which ended awkward.
🔖Mephisto knew from the beginning, he really didn't care as long as your okay that's that.
🔖Suguro was beyond furious, jealous by how Rin got a lover before him which turned into a big mess of teasing and yelling between the two
🔖The others congrat you guys happy for the newly formed couple.
🔖You love Rin but sometimes you can't tolerate the people he hangs out with, you hate Shiemi and Yukio.
🔖Shiemi once tried to take your omega. Which result in you giving her a rude attitude and telling her to shove off. But Rin was quick to defend her... it turned into a full blown argument.
🔖And Yukio, tried separateding you two by secretly getting you mad at each other, you where able to catch on fast and exspose Yukio, Rin turned to your side on this getting angry at his brother.
🔖Sometimes he gets jealous that you hang out with Suguro and Shima the most. He get all whiny about it which you reinsurer him your only his alpha.
🔖When you get jealous you immediately turn violent, you once tried to kill Shiemi for wrapping her arms around Rin's arm, or when Shura hugged him to her chest, even when Izumo wore Rin's jacket.
🔖Ready to tear off their heads. But you have to contain yourself.
🔖At some point you did stumble upon Rin's nest, it wasn't in his room but in one of the many rooms in the dormitory he and Yukio lives in alone, it was like any other nest filled with blankets pillows you could find one or two suff animals in there and clothes... your missing clothes.
🔖But you just left it not wanting to do anything to it, it is his save place after all you have to wait till he willingly allows you in on his own terms it is privacy after all.
🔖Scenting is something you guys do regularly, Rin just wants your scent to feel comfortable he got so use to it, makes him feel uneasy if he doesn't get to rub on you. You enjoy it equally if he doesn't scent a stuff animal or two that is yours you might get angry and punch a hole through the wall
🔖Rin loves you dearly but he didn't bonded with you in the way he thought he would.
🔖Somehow you came down in a rut affecting him aswell, falling into an early heat.
🔖Your will power was long gone force yourself on him giving him the most lovable night he'd never forget you where so gentle and caring taking care of him before yourself. It took everything in you not to fuck his brains out.
🔖But with that it came with you slipping for a second, biting on nape so hard making him bleed, made him scream in pain mixed pleasure.
🔖it took you awhile to have Rin bite you in return cause he didn't what to hurt you and was nervous about it.
🔖But afterwards you showed off the mark wearing it with pride, pinning your hair up (if you don't have long hair just ignore it.) And wearing shirts that exspose more of you neck and shoulders.
🔖After bonding you two stayed near each other having issues with separating for more than half an hour, this result in you leaving your dad's home moving into the dormitory Rin lives in both of you claimed a different room.
🔖Rin rebuilt his nest in both of yours room giving you full access.
🔖Others seem to keep asking you what it like in a alpha x alpha relationship, which confused you.
🔖But you simply answer with either ignoring them or "Just like any other relationship?"
🔖After becoming intimate, you love walking around him shirtless and pantsless. You can either get a blush or a horny moan out of him.
🔖Something more intimate is taking a bath with each other you can't keep your hands to yourself at times like these.
🔖giving each other pet names are normal and cute.
🔖Rin mostly prefers calling you- Babe, sweetheart or handsome/beautiful.
🔖You on the other hand call him- Baby cakes, love, Darling or idiot
🔖But in bed he once accidentally let a Daddy/mommy kink slip his mouth, it turned you on more than ever.
🔖But in bed you call his name mixed with a lot of dirty talk. Which gets him all rile up.
🔖Studying together is not a good option anymore you both can't concentrate, can't keep your hands off your lover, randomly start goofing off or get horny.
🔖You regularly get more piss off at Yukio more than Rin does, When mission come around your either stuck on a lame team or with Rin not allowed in the action.
🔖During the camping trip or exercise, instead of bringing back a lantern you kinda got lost in the forest.
🔖And only reunited with the others when Rin went viral, blue flames every where the trees burning and mist of the students were injured.
🔖Yes Amiomon did think about using you before Shiemi but it wasn't a good idea since Mephisto refused for obvious reasons.
🔖Number one the would have not been able to control you much less get underneath your skin though to your superior abilities.
🔖Number two you would've beating the shit out of Aniomon even if he wasn't your uncle.
🔖And lastly number 3 Your a demon with a class near Mephisto, he could've exspose it if you fought Amiomon but keeping you a secret from the order is more important than Rin.
🔖After all that crazy shit, Rin couldn't look you in the eye now you know he's a demon there could've been hope if he was just any other demon but his the span of satan himself.
🔖He doubt you would want to have him as your omega anymore.
🔖It sadden him and made him depress losing the cheerful happy attitude. Not just his behavior that changed as well as his scent it started becoming displeasing and disgusting.
🔖You treated him the same as you always do, you already knew everything since Mephisto opened his big mouth and blab to you long before you and Rin got together
🔖your also the first to feel the change in your omega, but thought it was cause of the way the others treat him.
🔖But it wasn't the same when he avoided you and didn't let you in him nest.
🔖At some point you had enough, doing something that an alpha shouldn't, you drag Rin straight out his nest to confront him
🔖It started in a argument leading of to crying and yelling, it ended with you mostly trashed the room, and the words never spoken once from you
🔖"I love you!" It made Rin extremely happy knowing you love him dearly.
🔖"I love you too"
🔖You two were finally on the same page again, continuing your relationship. Loving and cuddling.
🔖When the others treated Rin bad you where the one to comfort him and give him a not of ice cream.
🔖That's till Izumo birthday came aroun, You don't celebrate birthdays since your a demon and all much older than you look.
🔖You even helped Rin decorate the cake that was clearly Christmas themed, which confused you but you just brushed it off.
🔖Until Suguro yelled at you two claiming it was clearly not a birthday cake.
🔖They could understand Rin's explanation being that his birthday is really close to Christmas it is natural to celebrate the two on the same day not using up much money.
🔖You on the other hand were a different case, they where honestly worried, who would tell someone
🔖"I don't celebrate my birthday, I really don't care and truthfully I don't know the date to my birth?"
🔖What?
🔖Yes, you read it Mephisto never told you, and you really don't care about minor stuff like that.
🔖You suggest to them to just give the cake to Mephisto, your old man isn't much of a Christmas fan after all
🔖It was fun. And so where the rest of your days with Rin.
🔖Really happy.

For the ship ask- Rinshi: 9, 11, 12 and 23.
9. Do they discuss big issues? Religion? Marriage? Children? Death?
Hard to say, honestly, since Rin is predisposed to avoid these kinds of topic, more particularly death. Religion, I feel, would be a non-issue, because despite being raised in a church/monastery, Rin doesn't appear to be a devout follower of Christianity, nor any of the religions, and the same goes for Shiemi, except I picture her being traditional, in the sense that she knows the core values of Shintoism, maybe. I think that for them, they're more focused on the principles of the religion, like being kind; doing unto others as they would like done unto themselves, if that makes sense. That matters more to them than claiming a religion and its rituals, despite knowing those rituals.
There are times where I feel like marriage wouldn't matter to either of them; that they'd be in a long-term relationship without the title of husband and wife, because as long as they're together that's all that matters but then, knowing that Shiemi loves events and parties and celebrations, planning them and such, she'd definitely have a wedding and Rin wouldn't be opposed to it himself. A wedding would be the perfect excuse to have a swanky party and invite everyone they met since becoming exorcists. As for children, there's a mess of issues with them having biological kids, because Rin's the Son of Satan and Shiemi's the nephilim of Shemihaza. The Order would possibly try to restrict them from having children, because they don't want a repeat of Yuri/Satan and the Blue Night, and/or the "Beautiful People Club/Cult" would try and get their claws on them. That's not to say that neither Rin nor Shiemi wouldn't do everything in their power to protect their children, but I think that's something they'd both consider discussing. But, I also think they'd adopt. I can't see Rin not adopting at least 1-2 children, since he and Yukio are adopted themselves. He'd want to give a child in a need a better life the way Shiro did for them, and Shiemi would definitely be openminded, if not happy to do the same.
Rin does not like dealing with death, and Shiemi understands that but I feel like it's something they'd talk about, because Rin will outlive most all of his friends and possibly Yukio thanks to being half-demon and Shiemi would want to make sure he'll be okay.
11. Do they celebrate holidays? Anniversaries?
Absolutely, 100%. They love special occasions more than the Good Lord should allow, and it makes their friends, especially Yukio, antsy, lol. It gives Rin an excuse to cook a themed dinner and Shiemi an excuse to decorate, dress up, and create activities for everyone to bask in. Also, it gives them the opportunity to spend time with their friends and loved ones. Holidays at the Okumuras are the absolute best. They celebrate anniversaries, but I wonder if it's with the same gungho attitude they do holidays, but then, I picture Rin/Shiemi as one of those lovey dovey couples that just love being around each other no matter the occasion, so there's that too.
12. Is there a wedding? What was the proposal like? Any kind of honeymoon?
I mentioned previously that I can both see them getting married and not getting married. I can see there being a small, mixed Christian/Shinto wedding at the monastery where Rin grew up with a huge ass reception afterwards, where all their friends and family and peers would come. Rin would be in his tuxedo and Shiemi in her wedding kimono (oh, but also THIS)! There'd be a fight over who's Rin's best man - Yukio or Suguro, which like, obviously it's Yukio, but Shima insists on making it a thing when it's not - and, gosh, their wedding would be so chaotic because of everyone else, but also really fun!
Okay, so like proposal-wise, I've thought about this a lot, and I think I've settled on the idea that Rin would take Shiemi to his parents' graves and introduce her to them, and while rambling about all the things he accomplished that Shiro wanted for him - re: that day Shiro hugged him as a kid after he went berserk and broke his ribs - and just kinda blurts that he kinda wants to marry her/spend the rest of his life with her. Not that he has a ring on him, because he actually hadn't meant to propose that way, but it sort of happened on its own. And Shiemi would just kinda hold his hand in the process of all this, rambling to their graves as well about Rin and how much he means to her too and how she wants to be with him as well. Like, the whole thing is angtsy and sweet. Oooor, Shiemi would tell Rin that she wants to be with him forever, and Rin takes that to mean she wants to marry him, and y'know, he'd ask for clarification, and Shiemi would be like, "Of course!" Oooor, Rin would just blurt, "Let's get married!" or "I want to marry you!" after Shiemi does something sweet that overwhelms him emotionally, and Shiemi would like, "You mean like husband and wife?" and Rin would just flounder because holy crap, he didn't mean to say it like that, and Shiemi's just like, "Okay. I'd really like that a lot." And Rin would be like, "Really?! You mean it?!" And there'd be that nervous buzz of energy from Ch. 73 where they're all blushing and hiding their faces, but Rin wouldn't literally not being able to stop smiling and laughing and being happy that she wants to be with him.
Rin and Shiemi love the travel, so yes, there sure as hell is a honeymoon. They'd probably go to Aomori or Kyoto; maybe even travel outside of Japan to China or Mexico, where the other True Cross branches are.
23. How do they hug? Kiss? Tease? Flirt? Comfort?
They love hugs! Like, hugs are the essense of their affection for each other. Rin throwing his arm around her shoulder and tucking her head under his neck. Shiemi wrapping her arms around his middle and laying his head on his chest. Rin sweeping Shiemi off her feet and spinning her in a circle. Shiemi tackling Rin to the ground in a crushing hug out of pure joy. Like, they do Studio Ghibli hugs, and they're all filled with laughter. As for kisses: there's forehead kisses from Shiemi, either the kind where she stands on her toes or pulls his head to her level; there's the kiss where either of them call each other's name and they turn their heads and one of them kisses the other on the mouth. There's the "we're holding hands, but I'm going to plant one on the back of your hand just 'cause" kiss. There's the "can I kiss you?" kiss (which is their first kiss) and they bump teeth instead, and Shiemi settles for kissing Rin on the corner of his mouth (even though she was aiming for his lips). There's the "I really want to kiss you" kisses, and "that was really sweet what you did/said and the only way I can express how I feel is if I kiss you" kisses. And eye kisses, and nose kisses, cheek kisses, back of the neck kisses, hair kisses, kisses thar start off as pecks but get heated until they have to stop before it escalates! They love pecking on each other, really.
They tease each other over their quirks and habits - like how Rin teased Shiemi when they compared their grades because she used to use her own names for plants instead of the proper one, or how Shiemi teased Rin in the Phantom Train chapter. I don't think either of them know how to flirt, lol. Both Shiemi and Rin are too shy to do that, but when they're all lovey-dovey, like just buzzing around each other and being affectionate, their friends always tell them to stop flirting, even though they don't realize they're doing it and it immediately embarrasses them. "We're not flirting! I'm just showing/telling her XYZ!" like that. Hugs are the go-to for comfort; it always works. And they have honest, open dialogue with each other, like how Shiemi hugged him and told him she wasn't afraid of him, or how Rin opened up to her about Yukio.

“alpha rin okumura x omega, fem reader? maybe where they have to separate rin from the omega for safety reasons and he absolutely goes insane until he rescues her.”
alpha! rin okumura x omega! fem reader
fandom: blue exorcist / ao no exorcist
note: requests open and I haven’t watched AoE in about two years so it might be fuzzy. please let me know how my first A.B.O fic went.
You were trying to fend for yourself as you noticed demons coming from every which way. You knew the cram school did their best to have everyone prepared for situations like and you couldn’t lie, you were a lot stronger than you looked but one of the demons had grabbed when you weren’t paying attention and held you captive.
“Rin, RIN!” You screamed as you tried get his attention. It was a call to Rin but you were trying to see if anyone was paying attention. “YUKIO! BON!” Once Yukio turned around, it was too late, you were too far gone for them to catch you. They needed assistance and fast.
Rin was the last one to realize that you were taken but once he realized that his omega was taken, it was a sight that no one had seen before. His face contorted to anger, sadness, confusion, and every other heightened emotion.
“Relax-” Yukio started to say as he noticed his brother turn to him like he was ready to pounce him. Yukio knew he just needed Shura to defeat the demons before it was too late and they found you dead somewhere. “I’ll contact Shura and I’m leaving it up to all of you to watch Rin while I’m gone.”
Bon knew that it was really up to him and Nemu to try and calm Rin down. It was useless nonetheless because they knew that Rin was your alpha and you stuck to his side at all times. You were strong, no one doubted that, but they had never seen how angry an alpha got when separated from their omega.
//
You entered the cram school a two months after classes started. Yukio knew of you enrolling a few weeks ago but what got him up in arms was the fact that you were one of the only two omegas in the class. Konekomaru being the other. The rest of the class were betas and alphas so it wasn’t too much of a struggle until you came.
When your first day at the cram school came, it was nerve wracking to say the least. You felt the auras of the alphas in the class and you took a deep breath before you opened the door.
All eyes immediately fell on you and while you were nervous, the alpha energy seemed to calm down a bit. It wasn’t threatening and if you were being honest, it was comforting in a way.
“Everyone, this is ( your name ). She’s the new student in the cram school and while she did enroll a little late, welcome her warmly.” Yukio said as he ushered you to your seat. “I’ll have one of the students catch you up on work after class and yes it will be extra credit for whoever volunteers.”
They all perked up at the news but the one that caught everyone off guard was Rin who immediately volunteered. “Dude, are you sure you’re even smart enough to give her lessons?” Shima taunted. Rin jumped which caused Yukio to smack his desk with a ruler. “Rin if you’re interested, I’ll look over your notes and go from there.” The class snickered as Yukio began his lesson.
Rin couldn’t help but continue to look over at you. He felt attraction like this one time before this and it was with Shiemi. When he realized that she wasn’t interested, he gave up and now you showed up and flipped his alpha instincts upside down again.
“Hey, I’m Rin.” He wrote down in a note. He slid it next to you and you quietly opened it. You smiled and wrote back. “I’m ( your name ), it’s nice to meet you Rin.”
Throughout the entire lecture, the both of you were passing notes. He would crack a joke every so often and he was glad that it was just passing notes. Rin knew that if he had to actually speak to you, he would be a flustered mess.
Once class finished for the lunch break, you grabbed your wallet from the book bag and walked out. Rin immediately ran after you and managed to grab your shoulder before you turned the corner.
“Hey!” You said as he gave you a sheepish smile. “What’s up?”
He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “I was wondering if you wanted to eat lunch together?” He held his breath as you nodded yes. Rin smiled as he took you to his favorite spot.
From that day forward, Rin would be by your side and whenever someone from the non-cram school was around you, especially if they were an alpha, he would try to make them scram. It usually worked and Yukio knew this was another thing he had to worry about with Rin.
It took Rin a few months to finally ask you out but once he did, he immediately scented you. He knew it was a huge step to take but he couldn’t take it anymore. The two of you didn’t have the same non-cram school classes and he didn’t know what was going when you weren’t around him.
During your heats and Rin’s ruts, it was tough. You wanted nothing more than to welcome Rin into your nest but you were nervous so when the day finally came, Rin was happy beyond belief. He couldn’t believe you were finally letting him into your most intimate space.
//
Rin watched as Shura and a few others walked into the scene and Yukio gave them the rundown. He was pacing back and forth but he couldn’t help but notice that they kept looking over at him. It looked like Shura was holding something and Rin wanted nothing more than to tell them to hurry the hell up and get the plan going.
He noticed Shura give Yukio the thing she was holding. Once Yukio got closer to Rin, he tackled him to the ground. “YUKIO, WHAT THE FUCK, LET ME GO!” Yukio held him down as he handcuffed his own brother while Shura put a muzzle over him.
“Rin, we need to save her quickly and safely. With your emotions at an all time high, we don’t need her coming back even more injured or you getting hurt during the process.” Rin screamed as Yukio tried bringing him to the truck that Shura provided but he couldn’t get too far as Rin was thrashing around and screaming so he could be released. It took Shura, Yukio, Bon, and even Shima to get him loaded into the truck and buckled into the belts.
“It’s for the safety of everyone involved that you don’t come on this mission.”
Yukio couldn’t help but feel for his twin brother. While he had never felt the connection between an alpha and an omega, he could feel the heartbreaking feeling from Rin.
They had someone watch the truck as they went to retrieve you. Rin continued thrash around the truck and the person watching over Rin felt like he was going to explode at any second. Any alpha in a ten mile radius heard his scream. It was the scream that made any alpha feel for him. He was separated from his omega and that was a position no alpha wanted to be in. Any omega within the radius of your presence heard your whimpers and cries.
Rin couldn’t even fathom to think what those sickening demons were doing to you. He need to be next to you and cover you in his scent. He was on the verge of releasing his flames and he knew that if he did that, Rin feared that he wouldn’t be able to come back from it.
Even though people knew the connection between an alpha and an omega, they didn’t know the dangers that came from it. An alpha could go into a state of insanity if he didn’t have his omega and Rin was on the brink of getting there.
Just as Rin was about to break from the chains, what felt like years later, the doors of the truck opened. Yukio looked at his brother and felt like crying right there. He never seen his own twin brother this lost in his life. Sweat, tears, and even spots of blood were running down his arms and face.
“She’s safe.” Yukio managed to say as he noticed Rin finally break free from the chains and belts. He ran out of the truck and Yukio plus Bon and Shura tackled him down to the floor. “She needs to be evaluated before you can even think of seeing her.”
Rin with all the power in his body broke through everyone and sprinted to where he thought he could find you. Yukio and Bon chased after him but by the time they tackled him to the ground again, Rin seen you.
“RIN CALM DOWN!” Bon screamed as he felt like if he pulled Rin’s arms back anymore, he was going to actually break them. “Rin, you’ll see her in a few minutes. Calm the hell down before Shura gets the chance to sedate you and then you for sure won’t see her.”
For the first time all day, Rin actually listened. Bon and Yukio continued to hold him to the ground as they waited for the people working on you to give them the cue to let Rin go.
Again, it felt like Rin waited for hours to finally see you but when they screamed to Yukio that Rin was free to go, they didn’t even get the chance to finish the sentence before Rin ran towards you at full speed. He knew that he should’ve been more careful with you considering he didn’t know the full extent of your injuries but as soon as he got into arms reach, he tackled you into a hug. He immediately started scenting you as he noticed everyone leaving the small tent.
“WHAT HAPPENED? DID THEY TOUCH YOU? WHERE? ARE YOU SERIOUSLY INJURED?” Rin didn’t even give you the chance to respond as he continued to scent you. “YOU’RE OKAY, YOU’RE WITH ME NOW.”
You nodded as you let him continue to scent you. You knew it was a rough few hours with for the both of you and you just let him do whatever he needed to do as you silently wiped your tears from relief.
“I’m glad you’re okay.” You whispered to Rin as you managed to get him to calm down for a second. “We’re both fine and we can try to get back to normal.”
Rin nodded as he wiped the final tear that ran down your face. “Okay, as long as you’re okay, I’ll be fine.” The rest of the night was the both of you wrapped in a blanket and no one dared to disturb the both of you. They had seen Rin angry before but never like this and if everyone was being honest, they never wanted to see Rin like that again.

Their reactions to meeting you - an Angel | Blue Exorcist Preference
Requested by Anon; Hi! Could you please do a preference for Blue Exorcist, like the Ex-wires + Yukio meet an angel and how they would react? Thank you!!
Rin Okumura: This boy is beyond excited! He’s never seen an Angel before, so once the shock wears off, he’ll probably jump into asking you a million questions. “Do you have wings? Can I see them? Wait a minute, does that mean you can fly?! That’s so cool!!” He’s slightly worried about how the whole Angels vs Demons scenario will affect your relationship – whether that be platonic or not – because your species are known to be mortal enemies. But he’s keen to prove that he’s nothing like the other demons you’ve encountered, and that just because he’s Satan’s son doesn’t mean he’s anything like him.
Yukio Okumura: Unlike Rin, Yukio isn’t as trusting. On one hand, he wants to trust you – you’re literally the most holy entity he’s ever encountered in his life, the polar-opposite of demon-kind. But he’s a very cautious man, and so he can’t just let his guard down that easily. You’ll have to prove that you’re not a threat – to both his brother, and everyone in general – before he’d stop being suspicious.
Renzou Shima: Horny Boy is horny, but what else is new. This boy will try and hump anything with a pulse, so when he finds out what you are and sees your wings, he almost cums in his pants. You’re powerful and very attractive, so you’ve instantly won him over. He doesn’t question whether or not you could harbour dark motives – mainly because he doesn’t care. He doesn’t question things, and he doesn’t care about much. You’re hot and powerful, that’s enough for him.
Ryuji “Bon” Suguro: Torn between wanting to worship the ground you walk on and trying to run as far away from you as he can get. You’re incredibly powerful, holy enough to exterminate the vast majority of demon-kind as easily as swatting a fly. It’s equal parts impressive and intimidating. He’ll not be as cautious around you as he would be if you were a demon, but it’ll take him a hot minute to get used to it.
Konekomaru Miwa: The poor boy nearly faints out of shock. He’s in the same boat as Bon in that he’s both terrified and amazed by you. He’s a lot more cautious than his friends, not entirely trusting that you are what you say you are – you could be a Demon in disguise. However, all that quells when he sees your wings for the first time. If he can trust you, then he’ll be your friend until the end of his days.
Shiemi Moriyama: She’s in awe. You’re an Angel?! She’s seen plenty of demons now, in all shapes and sizes, but hasn’t come across any of your kind before. Given how sweet she is, she’d definitely make a point of befriending you – if she wasn’t your friend already – and if the rest of the Ex-wires reacted negatively, she’d be on your side without a doubt.
Izumo Kamiki: She pretends to not care, but she does. Her tsundere attitude can’t hide the awestruck expression on her face when she first sees your wings. She’ll probably be very annoyed at the fact you didn’t tell her, or any of the others, sooner. Izumo will definitely give you the silent treatment for a while, until you either apologise or she decides to forgive you.
Shura Kirigakure: Oh, okay. It’s definitely a shock to the system, but this woman has been a part of the Knights of the True Cross for a good amount of time – she’s seen some shit. Assuming the Vatican are aware of your existence, she’d want to see whether or not you were truly a threat to Assiah, or whether you could be an asset. She’s still careful to keep her distance, just in case.
Mephisto: His demon instincts picked up on the threat before he was aware of what you were, so naturally his response was to stay out of your way. However, he couldn’t help but feel curious as to how you could be useful to him – he picks his ‘puppets’ carefully and knows exactly how each outcome will play out before they’ve even occurred. He’d try to seduce you, initially, because the idea of having a literal angel on his arm is something that he didn’t want to pass up…but whether or not he’d keep you around, or if his emotions would develop further than just a measly crush, are something he’d keep to himself entirely.
Astaroth: He doesn’t even think twice before launching into an attack. This guy doesn’t play games, and if you pose a threat to Satan and demons in general, he wouldn’t stand around to see it happen. Assuming you’d survive his attacks, he still wouldn’t trust you – your species were mortal enemies, and he would never betray Satan to side with you. That being said, he wouldn’t be ignorant as to not notice how attractive you were, but it wouldn’t be enough to stop his hatred. So, essentially, he’d be aggressive as hell but if you’re up for a one-night stand, he might just say yes…but he’ll probably try to gut you afterwards.
Amaimon: He’d try to kill you, first and foremost. It’s how his brain operates – his instincts screamed that you were a threat, being as holy as your species are, and so he wanted to get rid of you. However, when he was warned by Mephisto to not push your buttons, he begrudgingly would comply. His lack of emotions, other than rage, make it difficult to read the Demon King, and so it is difficult to say whether or not his opinion of you had or would change.

Amaimon x Student (4)
I could stare at this gif all day
I’ve got this; Rin is right. I cannot fail this class as long as I don’t look to my left. Easy peasy, I won’t fail math.
But it doesn’t help that it kind of feels like the hot demon beside you might be staring at you. No. ____, focus on the teacher. Your eyes are glued to the board, and you’re trying to focus on what’s written and not just staring blankly.
“Here.” You jump as a lollipop appears in your line of sight. You have no choice but to look at the perfect being to your left. Amaimon stares at you expressionlessly as he waits for you to accept the candy. “W-what?”
“Take it.”
With shaky hands, you accept the candy. “What’s this for?”
“Big Brother said I need to make friends. I’ve noticed other students sharing snacks and candy with their friends.”
Your body stiffens as you fight to keep from throwing yourself onto the demon. “You want to be friends?”
He nods. “Yes.”
“So, you’re trying to make friends? I know some others-“
“Only you.”
The squeal is have to hold in is painful. “Okay, yeah, sure.”
“Good, bake me this.” He turns his phone screen toward you, prompting you to lean back slightly to see it better. "Big Brother told me last night that I can’t ask you to bake for me because we aren’t friends. You’re my friend now.” It suddenly makes sense; Amaimon isn’t interested in friendship; he just wants you to bake stuff for him. You gaze at it a bit longer, it’s a recipe he’s found. “Looks great! Sure, I’ll make it. Could you send me the link?”
Amaimon hands his phone to you. “Send it to yourself.”
Wait, does this mean I’ll have his number?
——————-
Bon groans; you’ve been going on about what happened in math class now you’ve finally shut up long enough for him to cut in. “He’s using you.” The others around him nod in agreement. “I’m failing to see the problem here; he can use me however he wants. I am more than willing.”
Everyone grimaces at your words except Shiemi, but you’re sure it went right over her head. Rin shoves your shoulder. “That’s so gross.”
Izumo shakes her head. “Let’s change the subject. Me and Paku are meeting after school to study, do you two want to come?” She addresses you and Shiemi.
“I can’t; I’m going to Amaimon’s house after school.”
Izumo scoffs. “I don’t know why you’re so excited; it’ll be like last time, no conversation, him taking what you bake and kicking you out.”
You shrug. “And you know what? I’m okay with that. Baby steps.”
———————
He wants simple cookie—one that’s quick and easy to make. These cookies don’t require pre-refrigeration; you can mix and bake them in under an hour. The time passes quickly as Amaimon sits at the bar, watching you as you work.
When you pull the pan of cookies out of the oven, you stare at it awkwardly for a moment. “Okay, guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Are you going somewhere?”
“Home.”
“I didn’t say you could leave.”
The kitchen door swings open with a bang. “And that, my dear brother, is a prime example of how we do not speak to friends.” Mephisto enters the kitchen, shaking his head. “I apologize on his behalf, Miss _____; he’s still unfamiliar with human customs.” He moves around the kitchen island toward you and leans in to whisper, “Not that you mind.” When he straightens up, a knowing expression appears on his face. “Why don’t you stay for dinner?”
You stare at the instant cup of noodles, then back at Mephisto.
“Miss _______, don’t look at me like that! You don’t understand how amazing you humans are for creating this masterpiece.” He claims before slurping some noodles.
“Mephisto, you’ve lived in Assiah for centuries, and you have more than enough money to try every food, and yet this-“ You point at the cup of noodles he presented to you. “Is the one food you got hooked in?”
Mephisto simply shrugs, “When you get as old as me, you tend to enjoy the simple things.”
“Right.”
Amaimon is seemingly ignoring your conversation, focusing on slurping his noodles instead. With them being instant noodles, he’s finished within a few minutes and turns his attention to you.
Uncomfortably, you gulp and glance at him, waiting for him to say something. He remains silent, observing as you struggle to finish the entire cup of noodles, trying to eat them in the least weird way possible, but you don’t even know what that way is supposed to be.
“What do you like to eat?” Amaimon questions once you’ve finished your noodles.
The first thought to come to your mind is ‘you,’ but you haven’t been able to taste him yet. So, instead, you tell him your favorite food.
After dinner, you grab your bags, ready to go home. “Amaimon, walk her home.”
“What? No, he doesn’t have to.”
“Of course he does; he’s your friend. It’s dark out now, it could be dangerous for a young lady like yourself. Amaimon, walk her home.”
“Okay.”
——————
As you walked down the street, Amaimon follows closely behind. You can feel his eyes on you, but you are too nervous to turn and look at him. You can’t take the silence anymore.
“So… do you always follow Mephisto’s orders?”
Amaimon shrugs. “I don’t really have a choice.”
“But do you want to? Follow his orders, I mean.”
He walks in silence for a few more moments before finally answering. “No. But it doesn’t matter. Big Brother is more powerful than me.”

Rizumo Week 2020 Day 3: Wedding
If you expected me not to be super late with this one too, then you don’t even know me. But I tried to make this one more romantic (which my brain struggled to write), so hopefully that helps take the sting out of it!
@the-new-rizumo-week-blog
Rin tugs at the starched white collar of his button-up shirt, groaning loudly as sweat trickles down his temples. “Man, it’s boiling out here,” he whines, trying desperately to flag down one of the many waiters carrying pitchers of ice water.
His companion jabs him in the side, seeming to only get more irritated when he yelps loudly in response. “Pipe down,” Izumo hisses, “we can’t draw attention to ourselves.”
He rubs his side. “Yeah, yeah, Shura’s orders…”
“No, you idiot. This is their day. They should get all the attention.” She gestures in front of them.
A recently wedded bride and groom sit side by side at a lavish table, their eyes focused solely on the standing maid of honor as she tearfully recites her toast. To their right sits an as-of-yet unused dance floor with a DJ rechecking his equipment and acoustics. To their left, front, and pretty much everywhere else under this tent sit their extended family and friends, a startling amount of people brought together to witness their union.
Silky linens drape across the ceiling, serving to disguise the tent’s basic structure, while the embedded fairy lights seem to bless the happy couple with their mystic light. More white tables and golden chairs are crammed together in this space than really seems wise, especially given the early summer heat, but only the guests’ children (and Rin) seem to be complaining. There are several buffet tables off to the side, thankfully still with the food covered so as not to distract the guests, but the half-demon can tell even from where they sit at the back that there is some premium cuisine waiting.
It’s the first Western-style wedding he’s ever been to, and though beautiful, good lord it must have been expensive. If it weren’t for their mission, he’s pretty sure he’d never get the chance to experience something so fancy in his life.
Still, he looks back at Izumo, chuckling even through the disgruntled glare she sends him. “What?” She grits out.
“You really are nice, Eyebrows.”
She jabs him again in the same exact spot. “I told you to quit calling me that!”
The bruise he’s developing almost convinces him to listen to her, but it can’t be helped; both of them were dressed by Shura for the occasion, and Izumo, in that lace red dress carved with intricate designs, looks… unsettlingly nice. Like, pretty. Like a really pretty girl.
Rin finds it hard to look directly at her, much less call her by her first name. It’s a lot easier to deal with an angry, violent Izumo, so he lets his elementary school boy instincts take over. A strong urge to tug on her ponytail overtakes him, but one look reveals that her peppy new hairdo has exposed the nape of her neck, where a few locks of hair cling to her glistening skin—
He tears his eyes away, forcing himself to calm down. Ooh, that was dangerous, dangerous. At least he knows now that he’s not the only one suffering from the heat…
These thoughts seem to only be making him feel hotter, though, so he instead runs over the details of the mission again. A report came in that one of the many, many guests here (seriously, were there hundreds?!) is actually a demon. While his precise motivations are unknown, the report indicated that he had some great plan in the making that could bring harm to everyone there, and he had to be brought down before that could happen.
However, some quick reconnaissance revealed that the only time they’d be able to get to him would be at the reception, which meant they had to find and deal with him discreetly—a stealth mission, as Rin liked to call it. The size of their team also had to be minimal to avoid arousing suspicion, so Shura brought along Rin and Izumo, stating that she “couldn’t afford to take her eyes off Rin, and their cover would work better with one of the girls.”
He hadn’t really minded, though when he questioned later why she hadn’t considered Shiemi, Shura gave him that mischievous smile he feared and said, “I trust Izumo to keep a reaaaal close eye on ya.”
Maybe he should’ve paid more attention to the ominous feeling he got from her words… but considering how easily Shura had gotten them in, continuously weaving tales of her being a widower of a distant cousin, of Rin being her step-son (“That’s right, I’m a mother—oh thank you, I do look too young! Nyahaha~”), of Izumo being his betrothed since they were little and how she’s practically family already… He probably shouldn’t doubt her, no matter how embarrassed her lies made him.
“So beautiful…” Izumo whispers, catching his attention. Unfortunately for her, he cranes his head in the direction of her gaze before she can hide it. The blushing bride lies in that direction, smiling endlessly as she accepts congratulations and adulation.
Rin hums. “So you dream of that kind of thing too, huh?” It was intended as a simple question, more conversational than anything, but it sends his companion into complete silence. When he looks back to her, her eyes are distant and pained. He’s not sure why, but his instincts tell him that he messed up and needs to start panicking.
Thankfully, Shura picks that moment to swagger on up, playing the part of an indulgent partygoer almost too well. She stumbles and grabs onto the back of Izumo’s chair, feigning a moment of rest to lean down and mutter, “Possible target located. Go blend in on the dance floor and move on the code word ‘private’.” She’s off to the dance floor before either can react, already cozying up to a man who’s too interested to refuse.
Rin stands immediately, all too eager to put his energy to good use, and anxiously extends his hand to Izumo.
She contemplates it for a moment—he starts panicking because oh god, is it too sweaty, he should try to wipe it off, but she’s definitely already seen it and probably thinks he’s gross—before she takes it, standing with a grace that he never knew she had.
Right when they reach the dance floor, the music suddenly shifts, and—oh, god. Oh god, it’s a slow dance. Rin hears snickering and glares at Shura, who’s clearly aware of his dilemma and enjoying it immensely. He somehow just knows she set him up for this—but judging by the way she’s clinging to the target, it was probably for the sake of the mission, he realizes with a sigh. His mentor sure has a way of killing two birds with one stone…
Awkwardly clearing his throat too many times, he slowly shifts their hands and ghosts his other hand over Izumo’s waist. She rolls her eyes and pulls him much closer, planting both of his hands on her waist and linking her own hands behind his neck. She forces him to sway gently with her because Rin is frozen, his brain completely blue-screening, just a constant chant of oh god oh god too close pretty girl smell good.
“Have you got a clear lock on Miss Kirigakure?” she whispers, snapping him into a completely different sort of flustered. He robotically turns to check and realizes that Izumo had dragged him closer to eavesdrop, their pose mirroring every other couple around them. That knowledge helps him relax, his shoulders slumping in relief as he heaves a big sigh.
Fingers dig into the back of his neck and the pain reminds him to focus. “Owww— yes, we’re good!” he whisper-shouts. “But man, Eyebrows, you’re really good at these kinds of missions, huh?”
Although looking directly at her is still a challenge, it’s quite obvious that Izumo’s glaring at him as she ‘accidentally’ steps on his foot. “Whoops,” she deadpans. “Sorry, Satan Boy. Anyway, I don’t think it’s that I’m good at them so much as you’re extremely terrible.”
His eye twitches. The tip of her ponytail is right there, just dangling right by his fingertips… but his aching toes and side advise against it.
They sway in silence for a moment, listening in for the code word over the soothing lull of the music. A soft giggling alerts Rin to the fact that the bride and groom have joined in. They look at each other like there’s no one else in the world, like every clichéd fairytale and love song has come to life between them. It’s as inspiring as it is beautiful, and despite the odd circumstances that led to him being there, he wishes these two strangers every happiness in the world.
And hopes beyond hope that even the son of Satan can have that someday too.
“About what you said earlier…”
He looks down at Izumo and is surprised to see her staring at his chest, furrowing her brow and worrying her bottom lip. “I wasn’t really… allowed to think about something so happy for my future. Loving someone— trusting someone to that extent… It all seemed utterly impossible.”
When her eyes grow distant this time, he understands. The memories she relives aren’t just her own anymore. So when his grip on her reflexively tightens, drawing her nearer—it feels as though she’s sheltered from the world in his arms, his warmth a gentle, firm reminder that she’s not alone. Izumo looks up to him, feeling a wondrous sense of security and unrestrained joy, and a glorious smile blooms upon her lips.
“But thanks to you all… I have that freedom.”
Rin’s heart pounds violently in his chest.
All the things he’s been acutely trying to ignore flood his senses all at once: her face, usually sharp with hostility and anger, is soft and warm and mere inches from his own; a pretty red dusts her cheeks, matching her sparkling eyes, two priceless rubies; her slender waist, her silky hair… and god did she smell good.
Was Izumo always this beautiful? And—this beautiful girl in his arms, blushing so prettily just for him—was she maybe—
“—nyahaha~ maybe we should go somewhere private?”
The pair springs into action, leaving Rin’s arms noticeably bereft as they flank Shura and the target off the dance floor.
He tries sneaking peeks at Izumo, but her stony expression conveys single-minded focus on the mission—until he catches her peeking at him too. Her whole body jumps when they lock eyes, and even though she quickly whips her head away from him, he still watches in fascination as a furious red colors her skin, all the way from the tips of her ears down to her shoulders.
It sends a thrill through him, one that tells him to hurry up and finish this mission so he can figure out what the hell this—this—whatever this is, this potential between them is.
And when they round the corner and he catches one last glimpse of the newlyweds, he sends them another blessing, ironic as it may be coming from him. Because thanks to them, to people like them, to all of their loves—it gives kids like him and Izumo a chance to dream.

28 rin/shiemi; 43 izumo
Haha, thank you for the ask!!! I wrote the two prompts separately, so Izumo’s is underneath. :)
The prompt is: something about [them] for Rin/Shiemi. This is set after chapter 114 in the manga.
The garden is as massive as it is indescribably beautiful. She’s been here for nearly a week, and there is still so much of it to see.
“Lady Shiemi,” one of the attendants ducks under a stray branch. “We’d best be returning soon.”
“Ah, okay,” Shiemi nods. “Just one minute.” She’s stopped trying to ask for their names, but they're not as unwelcoming as they’d felt in the beginning.
She steps around a reaching bush to get a closer look at a flowerbed. As she kneels, the white buds unfurl to greet her with their delicate gold centers. As endearing as their affection is, she wishes they wouldn’t strain themselves.
Her fingers brush past their waxy leaves to trace along a fallen branch. She has yet to see any of this garden ailing, so why are these ones struggling?
There’s something off.
It’s not a branch, but a harsh, rusting iron shaft.
“Oh, um,” she turns back, “why is this here?”
The attendants shuffle closer in whispers of rustling cloth. “Before Shemihaza’s crystallization was housed here, this was the entrance to the garden.” Two of the attendants crowd over, reaching to examine the long shaft of metal. “This is a remnant of the demon-warding gate.”
So that’s why.
The rust isn’t harmful, but the metal’s warding properties have blocked Shemihaza’s influence. This shrub isn’t suited for this environment, and without the crystals, it might not survive long here.
It’s trying so hard though. She can tell. It’s trying, very very hard.
Shiemi places a hand on the prickly surface of the metal, and holds back a smile.
There was a gate in her garden too, wasn’t there?
It had always creaked horribly whenever it was moved, but Shiemi never minded. It was nice to have a warning before anyone came in. More often than not, she’d hide away from her mother’s visitors and wait until they left before coming back out.
Only, one day, that gate came crashing down, louder than ever, and Rin was there telling her to stand, to do what she really wanted to do.
She’d been swept up in that whirlwind of confidence he was, drifting far, far away on that rising draft like a dandelion seed.
The world outside was huge. It was frightening and painfully uncomfortable. There were countless times when she thought about hiding away, back into her garden.
The world outside her garden is unkind, and sometimes she has no idea how to live out there.
And yet, something about Rin has always given her courage. In the beginning, it was because he’d looked strong and so unbelievably confident. Only as time went on, did she finally realize that his confidence was incomplete.
That confidence is rushed and it’s contagious. She doesn't know how she saw Rin here or if that was a hallucination, but she knows he’s still fighting.
She wants to help.
This time, she’s going to help.
“Let’s leave it alone,” Shiemi decides.
As she draws her hands away, the mottled discoloration of rust clings to her fingers.
“Are you certain, Lady Shiemi? If it is unable to draw from Shemiha—”
“It’ll be okay.”
This place is not where either of them are meant to be, but it’s where they are, regardless.
If they can’t leave this place, then their only choice is to sprout, grow roots, and thrive here. One day, they’ll stand tall. They’ll stand so tall, they will tower over everything else, and no one will dare to deny them anymore.
Someday, when this is all over, she’ll return with her head held high. Until then, she has every intention of using this position to her advantage.
This is her duty, as it is her birthright.
She will not fear it.
Shiemi smiles as she stands. “It’ll be okay on its own.”
She will not fear and she will not falter.
That is her promise.
For Izumo, the prompt is: undone. This is set after chapter 64.
The night after they leave Inari, she can’t sleep.
She sits at the foot of her bed turning the slim silver key over in her hands, overwhelmed by a strange sense of quiet.
The doubts she held onto for so long are ashes in the wind, and for the first time, there is nothing holding her down anymore.
Whatever happens from here, she’ll be okay with it.
Everything is okay...and then it’s not.
It happens a couple days later when she goes to the supermarket. She’s reaching up for a package in the freezer, and a little girl skips past her.
Izumo lunges before she even realizes what she’s doing. “Wait.” She drops the package, snagging the little girl by her elbow. “Wait a second,” she adds, pitching her tone softer when the little girl scrunches her eyebrows in dismay.
Izumo kneels slowly. “Your shoelace is undone,” she explains, tying a neat bow. She tugs it once to check that it’s taut. “There,” she says, straightening the bow a little, “you’re good to go now.”
The little girl gives her a cautious smile before waddling off. Izumo stoops to pick up the package she dropped just in time to see the little girl give her a small wave.
She’s really cute, with chubby cheeks and short dark hair.
For one second everything is still okay, and then, it’s not.
...Who are you?
Izumo leaves the supermarket in a daze, with a million thoughts at war with each other in her head.
It’s not fair, but it’s better this way.
Tsukumo is happy.
For Izumo, that’s everything, and it’s been more than enough.
It’s supposed to be enough.
It’s not enough.
The more she tries to convince herself, the more her resolve disperses, like smoke rising in the air.
It’s not enough, but it’s too late. It’s too late. It’s too late because Tsukumo is already happy. She has a mother and she has a father and she has someone to run to when she’s bored, she has someone to teach her kanji she can’t read, she has someone to tell her stories before she goes to sleep, she has someone to make sure she dresses properly for the weather, she has someone to tie her shoes when the laces come undone—
She doesn’t need Izumo anymore.
She doesn’t need Izumo, and it’s not like Izumo even has the right to do those things for her anymore.
Tsukumo is happy, and that’s enough.
But enough suddenly doesn’t cut it anymore.
The next day she goes after class and corners Takara even though she doesn’t have the slightest idea what she wants to ask for. She stands there with her fists clenched at her sides, grinding her teeth in frustration, when he hands over a business card and leaves without another word.
A business card.
Tsukumo used to collect these, didn’t she?
She dials the number on her phone, and hovers pathetically over the call button.
It’s late.
She should try tomorrow. If she calls this late, she’ll come off as impolite. She needs to think about what to say. She needs to make a good first impression. She needs to be careful. She needs to be—
She hits the call icon.
Her heart is beating so loudly she can barely hear the ringing. It feels like an eternity has passed before there’s a soft click and a man’s voice on the other end answers, “You’ve reached the Takara residence. What can I do for you?”
Izumo swallows dryly. “H-hi,” she stammers, clutching her phone in a death grip. “My name is Kamiki Izumo. I...I want to know if I can speak to Tsuku— Tsukiko,” she blurts. “I’m her older sister.”
“Pardon me,” the man says, “do you mind repeating your name once more?”
“Kamiki Izumo.”
“One moment.”
There’s a long pause, then an odd sound of fumbling before a woman responds, slightly out of breath. “I am Tsukiko’s adoptive mother, Takara Eri. I must admit, I wasn't aware Tsukiko had any siblings, but it’s...it’s very good to hear from you, Kamiki-san.” She pauses. “Would you like to set up a date to meet with me to discuss this in person?”
“Yes,” Izumo says immediately. “Please.”
Takara Eri lists off a couple days next week. Izumo agrees to the earliest time possible, scribbling down the date on a scrap of paper.
“Then, I look forward to meeting you in person. Take care, Kamiki-san.”
“Thank you.”
The call ends.
Izumo sinks to her knees, clutching the phone with both hands.
“Thank you,” she whispers.
Tsukumo doesn’t need her, and that’s fine.
It’s too late for them to return to what they were before, but she doesn’t want them to be nothing at all. It’s not right for her to end it like this.
She wants to let Tsukumo decide.
No matter what that decision is, Izumo knows she’ll be okay with it.

Abel and Cain Chapter 1
This is the Blue Exorcist fic I have been working on lately that will lead to the anime Titans story. It is an AU of sorts and explores the dark facets of Rin and Yukio's personalities. This chapter is told from Yukio's POV mostly. This takes place after Rin's powers are exposed. I originally named this fic Abel and Cain
YUKIO's POV
I sigh to myself as I walk out of the conference room haven been briefed about the , all these formalities and nonsensical bureaucracy is doing my head in. Thankfully I managed to slip out without Rin ever finding out. Like I would want that fool to ruin things for me and steal the spotlight like he always does. You see that is the problem with Rin; he is nothing more than an attention whore who wants the world to revolve around him and adore him. As if, when he is not just Satan's son but also the closet thing to an actual demon whilst I am nothing more than the most perfect angel the world has ever seen. The idiot exposed himself to the world so it is only natural that I make things worse for him. The boy is nowhere to be seen, not like I give a fuck. He can die for all I care. Soon, the world shall bow to me once I enact my evil diabolical plan.
Ok, now I know you all gonna be like why am I being mean to him? He deserves it tbh because I am tired of being in his shadow. Sure he downplayed his intelligence to make me shine and also has helped in the past. But little does he realize that he is helping me that way. The more the fool destroys himself, the more powerful and popular I become. Although I do not show it in public, I do enjoy and crave the attention I get from those putrid whiny bitches that throw themselves at me.
That ironically gave me an idea which I shall put into action. But before that, I need to ditch the other thorn at my side that would surely ruin my plans; Shura. Yes idiot Shura, Shura who thinks she is superior to me. Well newsflash bitch, I am hundred times way better than everyone especially her, Rin and that wretched old man that rotted in hell. Oh yeah, on that side note, that is part of why I hate Rin or rather, that is my legitimate excuse for hating Rin when in fact, I have always hated my big brother and is trying to destroy him at every cost.
Yeah I told him all was forgiven and shit but I was just toying with him. Nii-san is extremely emotional and thus that makes it easier to exploit and manipulate him like I have always done ever since we were little kids. Anyhow, I digress. Back to the main topic at hand here people. Now where was I? Oh yes...
"Excuse me guys, gonna go to the loo." I lied as convincingly as I could and slip into the bathroom. Once inside, I make sure to lock up the door. "You may come out now my underlings." I say. A massive shadow is casted across the room and out come two male demons, one is much taller than I am with red hair and the other has messy green hair. Both have horns on their heads though they do not have tails, both wearing school uniforms. These two are my brothers Iblis the King of Fire and Beelzebub the King of Insects. Yes bitches, I do have demonic powers but they were supressed till recently hence why I have managed to get away with my evil deeds and put Rin in trouble all the time. Yes all the fights the buffoon gets into are my doing plus a couple of other things.
"Must you keep on calling us that?" Beelzebub whines. Iblis smacks upside in the head. "Silence!" he barked. Beelzebub pouts. I simply rolled my eyes. "Look I did not summon you here for some prit a prat. I have a mission for you both." I say with the most deadliest smirk in place.
NORMAL POV
"Where is Okumura-san?" Konekomaru asked. Shiemi looks up. " I haven't seen him since that incident." says Shiemi. "I did see him walking along the corridors at one point but he has been skipping classes." says Shima."Let's just forget about him." says Suguro. The others just do that and pretend that he does not exist. All except Izumo who is standing outside fists clenches. Those fakeass bitches!!! How dare they treat him that way?!!! I must find him at once and bring him back. With that, she races off to find him.
Rin meanwhile was seated on the rooftop of their dorm, breaking down in tears. They have all abandoned me. he says to himself. Kuro nuzzles him. Rin don't cry. I am sure your friends would find you. he says. He nods and absentmindedly pets the cat. Without realizing it, he opens his mouth and words began to flow:
Amaimon, Mephisto and a newly revived Astaroth walk towards the Okumura brothers’ dorms. “I am sure our little brother is here.” Sure enough, they find the boy sitting on the roof in tears.
Upon seeing him in such a pitiful state, Amaimon hugs his brother without a moment of hesitation whilst Astaroth pats his head. Kuro grins. See told ya so. The poor boy was confused out of his mind. "W-what are you guys doing here?" he asked. "What else?" says Mephisto.
"What are they doing here?! And is Reiji still under the influence?!!" he yelled, pointing at both Amaimon and Astaroth. "Whoa! Calm down otouto! We mean, no harm. Honest. Plus I actually do kinda look like Reiji in human form." says Astaroth, raising his hand. Rin glares at him suspiciously. "And besides, we have been searching for you following that little incident back there." says Mephisto.
Amaimon nods."It was not my intention to fight you or anything but it seemed like some powerful force had control over me and made me not only attack you but also enabled you to expose your powers." he said.
He gaped at them. "You mean via mind control?" Rin asked. Mephisto nodded. "Even I do not know who could have done that as Amaimon was perfectly sane when we left the house." Rin thinks. Unless that perpetrator might have followed them and placed some magic charm on Amaimon to act that way. "Indeed but we need to redeem Rin's image first because I discovered that someone filmed that fight and posted it on social media." says Mephisto.
"WHAT?!" Rin shouts. "Let me ask you something Rin, have you noticed anything strange about Yukio?" asked Mephisto. Rin sighs. “Besides the fact that he distances himself from me and often acts coldly towards me, nothing else.”
Mephisto simply nods. He too has been observing Yukio’s behaviour and had grown suspicious of the boy. The increased presence of minions of their brothers Beelzebub and Iblis certainly do not help matters. Amaimon did say that he say the two around True Cross talking to Yukio once which makes Yukio look even more shadier. What could that boy be discussing with those two? And if Lucifer is involved in this, that makes it worse.
"Now otouto, we must make haste and take you out of here to somewhere where you can relax and unwind and become the man you ought to be and not what Yukio dictates you to be." he says.
Rin nods. "You do have a point there. I am tired of always playing second fiddle to that bastard." He then smirks deviously. "I want to be the man I ought to be." Amaimon pats his back. "See? This is what we wanted to tell you otouto." he said. Astaroth pats him on the back. " Now you will have to pack up though and bring both Kurikara and that familiar of yours with ya." says Mephisto. Rin nods. "Here goes nothing." he says.
Rin's POV
I sigh as soon as I reach the dorm. Yukio hasn't arrived home yet which is a blessing because I cannot stand another week of talkless days and nights with my twin. Speaking of which, said boy has been acting weird towards me, almost as if I do not exist. I do not blame him afterall, I killed Shiro Fujimoto our beloved adoptive Father plus all this stuff regarding me being Satan's Son and inheriting his flames is causing all sorts of drama for me.
Those stupid Grigori bitches put me on trial and treated me like a fucking animal. Ok, I admit to losing control of my flames but truth be told that I had no idea what happened back there and now that I think about it, Amaimon may most likely have been under some form of mind control. I mean, Mephisto did try to stop him from attacking me. Nothing adds up to be honest and for some weird reason I suspect Yukio here.
I know strange but it is true. That boy has always been suspicious. All this talk about long missions and whatnot is starting to become even more weird to me. Yes he is my brother but at the same time, let me acknowledge the abuse he has subjected me to. I was so naive to have allowed that bastard to take advantage of me for years.
Still, it is strange that these two older brothers of mine plus Mephisto are treating me nicely and seem to understand me, accepting me even better than my own twin. That alone makes me feel uneasy. My train of thoughts gets distracted by a little meow from beside me. Hurry up Rin. You need to pack up. says Kuro. I nod and begin to pack up my stuff. I bet Yukio would throw a fit when he does not see me for days though to be honest, I doubt he would even care since he hasn't been acting brotherly to me lately, probably enjoying all the popularity that he is getting now at school. It is obvious that that bitch enjoys all the attention as he treats me like I am second rate everytime especially behind the scenes but still pretends to be all nice to me in public.
Everyone thinks that I am stupid and clueless about my surroundings. Actually I am not very happy go lucky. If anything I am much darker than that and much smarter than people give me credit for. I just pretend to be stupid to hide my real self because if these bitches knew just how smart and powerful I truly am, that would scare the shit out of them.
I smile bitterly as I throw my clothes into my bag. That dream inspired by what the old man spoke to me as a kid, the words encouraging me to shape up and be the man that loads of people would admire, the hero that I aspire to be, seems almost impossible to reach now, not with the current scandal I have been hit with. I cannot help but chuckle at that word. Yes when the entire school knows about your true heritage, it is certainly one hell of a scandal. Once I am done packing, I take one final look at what has been my home for the past couple months and leave. Chances are this would be the last time Yukio and I would ever see each other again.
Anyhow, I leave that dorm and head off to meet Mephisto and the others at the car park. "I have already sorted out the mess involving people knowing about your identity." says Mephisto. "Uhm, how?" I asked. "Trust me, it's best you do not know." says Astaroth. "Anyhow, we must be off." says Mephisto. We all get into the limo and drive off.
NORMAL POV
Izumo arrives Rin’s dorm, only to find it vacated. “Oh my God....don’t tell me that I am already late...”
Before she could turn around, she gets knocked out by a mysterious person.
So there you have it guys. I originally posted this and deleted it by mistake. Thank goodness I still saved the draft of the original fic and edited some stuff in here. Might do a spinoff on Izumo.

Out of Darkness, into Light
Category: Mild Romantic Fluff, Friendship Fluff
Fandom: Blue Exorcist
Characters: Rin Okumura and Shiemi Moriyama
“Let’s see…” Shiemi murmured thoughtfully as she inspected the piece of paper in her hands. It was a memo that contained a detailed map of Fukushima City, located in the Fukushima prefecture. “We’re close! The target building is just down this street and around the corner!” she smiled cheerfully up at Rin, who was hunched over slightly with his hands in his pockets and staring at the map with his dark eyebrows knitted together in confusion.
“How can you read that thing, Shiemi? There’s so much crap on it.”
Shiemi giggled and folded up the map, tucking it into the pocket of her uniform skirt while her little familiar leaned over her shoulder, wiggling his arms as if he had wanted longer to look at it. He leaned a little too far and wobbled precariously, but managed to cling to her neck and avoid tumbling down to the ground. “All right, so down this street?” he affirmed and straightened up, peering down the sidewalk.
The city was quite large, so it really was no wonder that Rin was having trouble navigating. Currently, they were located somewhere in the heart of the city, but on the outskirts of the commercial district that contained towering office buildings and other corporate establishments. Shiemi and Rin had been dispatched to the residential area to deal with a troublesome ghost.
“According to the briefing, the ghost has been around for quite some time but had more or less been benevolent up until now,” Shiemi reported as she strolled alongside Rin. “Before, an old couple lived in the house, and only had to deal with objects moving, footsteps, slamming doors, that kind of thing. The couple has since died and a new family moved in, a young couple with their three-year-old, and that’s when things escalated. The family is so afraid that they’ve been staying in a hotel.”
“So we just gotta go in there and kill it, right?” Rin smirked, his unusually sharp canines catching the sunlight. His sword was wrapped in its cloth, strapped to his back, but Shiemi knew that he was itching to hold it already.
“We’ve been called to assist the senior exorcists already there. It’s a very old and powerful spirit, they say. Also, they mentioned that we have to do as little damage to the house as possible.” This instantly popped the balloon of Rin’s excitement, and his shoulders hunched up to his pointed ears as he grimaced.
“Why the hell did they put me on this mission, then?”
“Everyone else was busy, and Shura said it would be good practice for you to control your ‘destructive tendencies.’” The half-demon boy muttered something unflattering about the swordswoman under his breath, but Shiemi had not time to reply as they turned the corner and were abruptly greeted by chaos. “Oh, my goodness!”
The entire street was marked off with metal barricades and police tape, blocking off the section in front of a quaint two-story house. At the instant she and Rin rounded the corner, a gale of black wind burst from the front door, sending it flapping on its hinges and sounding eerily reminiscent of a woman’s screech. It was so deafening that she and Rin had to clap their hands over their ears to keep their eardrums from bursting, but even then, it was so loud and high-pitched it was painful. What power! Shiemi thought as the wind’s cold fingers ripped at her clothes and almost blew Nee out of her hair. She cracked an eye open when the wind finally died, finding that the entire left side of the roadblock had been flung into the opposite building, which already contained the marks of prior destruction; bricks were loosened and piled on the ground, several windows were shattered, and one of the metal barricades was embedded into the building several yards up. Littered across the street were groaning, wounded exorcists and debris from the front yard, ripped up flowerbeds and stones from the gravel path, and even the splintered remains of the wooden mailbox. At the sight of the injured, Shiemi gasped and hopped over the remaining bits of barricade to rush to the nearest exorcist’s side. “Nee! You know what to do!” she commanded as she knelt beside him to inspect the deep laceration in his arm. Her familiar squealed and jumped up, healing herbs springing from his belly. Shiemi plucked them off and expertly created a wrap around his bleeding arm. It was no substitute for medicine and bandages, but it would keep him from bleeding to death.
“What the hell was that?” Rin cried as he followed Shiemi to the next patient. An exorcist came running from the other side of the barrier, apparently the one in charge of the operation.
“It’s a banshee,” he answered grimly with a look to the house. Shiemi glanced at it out of the corners of her eyes; it didn’t look so quaint anymore. The porch and yard were littered in dead leaves from the gnarled, dying oak tree whose bare branches bent over the roof, making an eerie scratching sound with every slight breeze. Several of the planks on the porch had been pulled up, bearing sharp nails, and one of the chains securing the porch swing had snapped, sending it crashing down. No windows were broken or side paneling or shutter removed, but the house seemed to leak evil energy; the door was still open, the only thing beyond it a gaping chasm of darkness. Shiemi shivered, not looking forward to venturing into the abyss. I could stay out here and treat the wounded… No way! She scolded herself as soon as she thought it. I can’t have Rin go in there alone!
“A banshee?” Rin frowned. It wasn’t a demon they had come across yet, and since Rin barely retained anything he studied past examinations (and even then, sometimes before), it wasn’t something he knew by memory.
“A banshee is a relative of a ghost. They come from ghosts of women who died in tragic ways and are extremely dangerous. That wind you saw just now was just from her screaming. The wind can cut you just like any blade and can burst your eardrums in an instant. The team we sent in first didn’t stand a chance. They’ve all been rendered deaf,” the senior exorcist explained with a sad shake of his head. Now that Shiemi looked, all the men scattered about, and even the officer, had earplugs in their ears. As she was wrapping the second man’s leg, a handful of medical officers ran out into the street.
“We can take over from here. Captain, that thing just wiped out the entire team. Are you sure we should send these Exwires in?” one frowned as he knelt down across from Shiemi to further tend to the wounded man. Before he could answer, Rin snorted and gave him a cheeky grin and a thumbs-up.
“Just leave it to us! Right, Shiemi?”
“Yes!” she nodded determinedly and hopped to her feet. The officer provided them with the earplugs, and Shiemi frowned slightly as she pushed them into her ears, finding the feeling of them very uncomfortable. “These things are weird.”
“What did you say?”
“I said these things are weird!” she repeated louder, and he laughed at her, though she wasn’t sure if he had actually heard her or it was just a knee-jerk reaction to pretend as if he had. Rin pulled his sword off his shoulder, sliding off the cloth to reveal the sleek sheathed blade, as he approached the house. He and Shiemi carefully picked their way across the porch, careful to avoid the nails sticking up; the wood groaned with each step they made. As they approached the door, the temperature abruptly dropped, making Shiemi shiver again. “It’s cold…” She wasn’t just shivering from the cold. Try as she might to be brave, the darkness emanating from the house made her heart quiver with fear. She involuntarily took a step back and swallowed nervously.
“Shiemi.” As he uttered her name, she turned to him, finding that he was smiling softly at her. “Stop worrying. We can do this, together.” Her cheeks flushed dark pink, and she looked away, embarrassed that he had realized that she was afraid.
“I-I’m not scared. I-it’s just cold,” she mumbled and cast her gaze back to the doorway. “And dark… So dark we could get separated…”
“I can’t do much about the cold, but how about this? You can hold my hand until we find the banshee, so we don’t get separated in the house,” he beamed at her and offered her his hand. It was so natural for him like it was nothing, but Shiemi’s pulse immediately skyrocketed. It’s just Rin! She told herself as she took the offered hand. Immediately, she felt at ease, and a smile came to her face as she wrapped her fingers around his. Kind, dependable Rin… “Feel better?”
“Mm-hmm!”
“Great! Then let’s go, Shiemi!” he grinned in that confident, devilish way of his, and together, they plunged into the house. It was like stepping into a walk-in freezer, but everything around them was just darkness. Shiemi could barely make out Rin’s form beside her or her breath fogging in front of her face in the gloom. While her other hand lay locked in Rin’s, her other was pressed to her chest, trying to still her rapidly beating heart. They were standing in the entryway, all the light from the entryway absorbed by the crushing blackness. Shiemi could just barely make out the outlines of a pair of recliners, a sofa, and what seemed to be a small fireplace. Rin tugged her in that direction, and Shiemi was sickened that upon closer inspection the furniture contained deep claw-marks. They leaked stuffing like blood, piles like puddles on the floor. “So much for not doing much damage to the house,” Rin muttered, just high enough that she could hear him through the earplugs. Shiemi’s attention was caught by the photographs on the walls and end tables.
“Rin… Look at these.” In the photographs, all the glass had been shattered. The little bits crunched under their feet as they leaned close to the pictures to inspect them in the gloom. “Only the parents’ faces have been scratched out.”
“Huh. You’re right. Weird.” In every photo, the man and woman’s faces were now unrecognizable scribbles of white, but their daughter’s happy face was perfectly intact. It was obvious that it was done by the banshee, but why? “It isn’t in here. Let’s go, Shiemi.”
He pulled her along to the opposite side of the house through a doorway, into the adjoining kitchen. Rin tried flicking the light switch, but the bulb in the overhanging lights did not flicker to life. “So much for that.” He began leading her through the room, hissing in pain as his hip collided with the dinner table that they could barely make out. “Ow... What the hell?” Shiemi followed his surprised gaze, and with enough squinting, she could recognize that every knife the couple owned was embedded into the wood of the table. There were at least twenty. “This is one pissed-off ghost.” For comfort, Shiemi grabbed onto the back of Rin’s shirt. “Oh, don’t worry, Shiemi. It’s nothing we can’t handle,” he grinned at her in the dark before leading her down a hallway, toward what she surmised would be bedrooms.
Rin… I hope you’re right.
“It’s getting colder,” she observed quietly as they progressed through the house, finding only an empty bathroom, sitting room, and bathroom. Evidence of the enraged banshee was everywhere: claw marks scored into the walls and furniture, the linens of the beds strewn about and ripped beyond repair, and the same strange disfiguring of every photograph. Both she and Rin were shuddering with the cold now. They were at the landing of the staircase now.
“Let’s go.”
The string of photographs that had been nailed to the walls had been flung off, and their feet crunched on broken glass and splintered photo frames as they slowly edged up the staircase. When they arrived at the turning point, Rin paused; floating in the air were the miserable sobs of a woman. Even more slowly so as not to alert the demon to their presence, they crept up the steps, following the sound down the second-floor hallway to a bedroom in the back. The darkness up there was even more crushing, and if Shiemi had not been holding his hand, she would have no idea where Rin was at all. Her hand brushed along the hallway wall to keep herself grounded in reality, otherwise, she would be floating untethered in the abyssal space. When they made it to the room, sitting on the floor silhouetted by soft white light was the form of a young woman in a kimono. She was clutching a little doll to her chest as she wept.
“Setsuko… Where is Setsuko?” Instantly, the reason for the ghost’s abrupt change in mood was apparent. She lost her daughter and was unable to move on. When the family with the daughter moved in, she must have thought she was Setsuko and lashed out at the parents. Rin moved to creep forward, but the plank beneath his foot loudly creaked. Immediately the woman’s head snapped to glare where they were standing, her pupils expanding to smother the whites of her eyes. “Give me back Setsuko!” she screamed, and Shiemi gasped and braced herself against Rin as an unholy wind blasted from the form of the woman. It was shrieking, just like the black wind before.
“Who the hell is Setsuko?” Rin shouted as he whipped his sword from its sheath. At once his blue flames blazed to life, flickering along the edge of his sword and across his body; it seemed to chase the darkness away, casting them in a circle of soft blue light. The woman had undergone a ghastly transformation, her black hair growing to writhe around her like tentacles and darkness seeping from her pale body. “Shiemi! Back me up, okay?” Rin shouted as he sprang at the demon. His sword was halted by several of the thick hair tendrils.
“Got it! Nee!” Her familiar sprang onto her head, his belly bursting open with climbing ivy. It shot towards the ghost, curling around her hands and legs and writhing hair to immobilize her.
“Good job, Shiemi! Take this!” Rin roared and went to deliver the finishing blow, but the banshee was far from done. The banshee screamed again, the volume fierce enough this time to make their bones rattle and ears ring despite the safety equipment, and Rin froze in his tracks and dropped his sword to cover his ears. “Owwww! Dammit!”
“Rin, no!” Shiemi cried, hovering by the door with her hands clamped over her ears too. He was much too vulnerable like that; the banshee’s fingernails grew into wicked claws, and with a gleeful shriek, she swiped at the trembling demon boy. Shiemi did the only thing she thought she could do at the moment and flung herself at Rin, knocking him roughly to the side. “Ahh!” she screamed in pain as the banshee’s claws ripped across her side, leaving her white uniform shirt blooming red with blood. The force of the blow was enough to fling her backward, sending her crashing through the bedroom window and plummeting into the backyard below.
“Shiemi!” she heard Rin screaming as she fell through the air, the wind tugging at her hair and clothes. Nee sprang of her shoulder to expand in size, and she landed safely in his pillowy, bush-like body. Groaning, she rolled off of her familiar as he shrank back down to his miniature form, holding a hand to her gaping wound. Above, she could hear Rin roaring in anger and things crashing around as he fought the banshee, and blue flames blazed through the broken window. She gritted her teeth at the intense pain as she forced herself to sit up. She had to get back in there.
“Hey… Over here.”
“Who said that?” her voice was labored, just like her breathing, as her head whipped wildly around. Compared to the rest of the house, the backyard was serene and untouched; the grass was emerald in the bright sunlight, and the white fence was lined with colorful flowerbeds. A smaller tree was in the back corner, its leaves full and healthy with bright pink blossoms dotted throughout. A white bench was placed in front of one of the flowerbeds, and on this bench sat a little girl in a flower-patterned kimono and her black hair tied into a pair of buns. Panting, Shiemi forced herself to stand up and stumble over to the little girl. “You shouldn’t be here. It’s danger-“ she started to say, but as she got closer, it was painfully obvious that the little girl was a spirit as well. She smiled cutely up at Shiemi and tilted her head to the side. “Are you Setsuko?”
“Yep. What’s your name, pretty lady?” Shiemi nervously looked back to the eerie house. Though the fight had migrated deeper within, she could still hear Rin’s valiant effort against the crazed banshee, and her occasional demonic screams. I need to help Rin… But if I find out what happened to Setsuko, maybe I can get the banshee to calm down!
“My name is Shiemi,” she told the little girl, looking back at her with a pained smile. Blood was seeping through Shiemi’s fingers and flooding into her skirt, even dribbling down the side of her thigh. She had to finish this quickly, or she would pass out from blood loss. She grimaced as she increased the pressure on the wound.
“I’m sorry my mommy hurt you.”
“Oh, it’s okay. Please tell me why your mommy is so sad,” Shiemi smiled weakly. Setsuko looked down at her little hands in her lap, then wordlessly pointed to the base of the tree in the corner. Her eyebrows knitting together in confusion, Shiemi hobbled over to the large plant and, with much effort, crouched down to rifle through the detritus among the roots. After a minute of digging into the soft, loamy earth, her hands found something solid, and she pulled it up. She immediately dropped it with a frightened scream. Grinning at her from the ground was a child-sized skull. “O-oh m-my…” she whispered in horror, tears streaming from her wide green eyes, and she turned to Setsuko, who had risen from the bench to walk over. She was staring sadly down at what remained of her body.
“We were very poor. Daddy and Mommy fought a lot about it,” she sighed and crouched down to pick up the skull. Bile rose in Shiemi’s throat, but she forced it back down. “Daddy lost his job, and they fought even more. Mommy cried a lot. One night, Daddy said that if I had never been born, then they wouldn’t be poor. It made me cry. Daddy left, and Mommy told me that it wasn’t my fault and me being born was the best thing to ever happen to them. Daddy came back late that night and got me out of bed. He said that there was a pretty flower in the garden he wanted to show me. He made me look at the flower, and then…”
“Your own father killed you?” Shiemi whispered. It was the most horrible thing that she had ever heard. Setsuko straightened back up, smiling brightly as she held the skull in her tiny little hands, hands that would never get to grow bigger.
“It’s okay, Miss Shiemi. I’m not sad about it anymore,” she told her. “I just want my mommy to get better. She thinks I’m lost, but I’ve been here the whole time. She just can’t see me.” She held out the skull to her. “Please, take me to her? I don’t want her to be sad anymore. I want us to be able to go to Heaven together.” Shiemi sniffed and used the backs of her hands to wipe her eyes, then nodded firmly and took the skull from the little ghost girl. Her determination momentarily chased the pain from her body, and she stood up to resolutely stare at the house. I’m on my way, to deliver Setsuko’s message! Just hold on a little longer, Rin!
She trotted across the backyard to enter the house through the back door. It was as dark as ever, but the remains of the child glowed in her hands, providing her enough light to see. She ran as fast as she could towards the stairs, leaving a trail of bright red blood in her wake. Her vision was beginning to grow fuzzy and her breath short, but she pressed onward. I have to save Sestuko and her mother!
“Rin!” she shouted hoarsely as she made it to the stairs. She grabbed the banister as she fought for breath, leaning over as she panted heavily. “Rin! Down here!” she screamed into the darkness. There was silence, then suddenly Rin came bursting out of the hallway above in an explosion of blue flame.
“Shiemi!” he shouted down at her as he slid down the banister to drop to her side. He was panting hard too, scratches across his face and arms and his clothes a little torn, but faring much better than she was. “I tried to go after you, but that bitch wouldn’t let me! I can’t get close enough to hit her with my sword without tearing this whole house down!” Shiemi had to laugh because the idea that he was more concerned about the house than killing the demon really was extraordinary.
“It’s okay! I know how to beat it!” she told him with a smile. As she said so, the banshee came crawling on all fours down the hall, her hair writhing around her like a hundred snakes. The temperature in the room plummeted, make Shiemi tremble violently, but nevertheless, she ran up the flight of stairs to approach the demonic woman.
“Shiemi, no!” Rin’s cry and her thundering footsteps alerted the banshee to her presence, and with monstrous speed, she surged towards Shiemi. As she landed at the top of the steps, Shiemi thrust the skull out.
“Here! Here is Setsuko!” she cried and squeezed her eyes shut. She expected some sort of impact, but none came, so she cracked an eye open. The demon had stopped just short of her and was sitting up on her knees, her black hair swirling gently around her like it was suspended in water. A few strands brushed across Shiemi’s cheek, feeling softer than down. The woman’s eyes reverted to normal and flooded with tears as her pale hands reached out to gently take the small skull.
“Set… suko…”
“I’m sorry. Your daughter died. Her father killed her because of the money,” Shiemi explained softly. The banshee looked up at her with wide eyes. Shiemi hung her head, recounting the tale enough to make her eyes flood with tears again. As they spilled down her cheeks, she whispered, “It must have been so terrible, not knowing what happened to her… I’m so sorry you had to suffer like that for so long…” She then looked up at her, her expression firm. “But you need to stop hurting other people! Setsuko is waiting for you, so you can go on together!” The ghost exhaled deeply in realization and turned around as a small form materialized behind her.
“Setsuko,” she whispered as the little girl held out her arms for an embrace. She dropped the skull and crawled over to her, then gasped and pulled her into her arms to hug her tightly.
“Let’s go now, Mommy. Don’t be sad anymore.” The woman nodded wordlessly as she shed her tears of happiness and longing, and Setsuko smiled at Shiemi as they both began to glow brightly. “Thank you, Miss Shiemi! I’ve never seen a flower as pretty as you!” she grinned cheekily, and then they were gone. Shiemi smiled warmly as daylight spilled into the house, warm and comforting. She then wobbled, growing dizzy, and fell backward into the open air.
“Gotcha!” Rin cried as he came up behind her and caught her, falling down to his knees on the step. Her head flopped back onto his shoulder, her blonde hair sweeping across her face, and her green eyes gazed up at him tiredly. “Ah! Shiemi! You’re hurt bad!” he cried in panic as he carried her down the steps to the landing, laying her down gently on the wooden boards and flicking his tail nervously as he eyed the scratch marks in her side. “Hey, Nee, do something, will ya?” he begged the little Greenman. Shiemi giggled, making him look at her in a mixture of alarm and confusion.
“Stop worrying. I’m tougher than that,” she mused. He hunched his shoulders slightly before sighing deeply and sitting on his knees beside her.
“You did have me worried. The whole time I was fighting her, all I could think about was you…” he mumbled with pink cheeks. Shiemi’s eyes widened slightly and her face took on a similar hue.
“Hey, Rin… Come a little closer. I can’t hear you.” She could hear him just fine, actually; perhaps it was the blood loss making her thoughts fuzzy, or the brush with death, but she was about to do something bold. Rin frowned deeply, then put his hands on his knees as he leaned over her.

When he pulled back from her, his face was red and his mouth curled into an embarrassed scowl. “That was smooth.”
“You think so?” she laughed as he straightened up, then winced as the pain flared in her side once more.
“All right, to be continued. I’m getting you to a doctor.”
“Wait, to be continued?!” she cried in alarm as he scooped her into his arm, and it was his turn to laugh as she turned cherry-red and her heart began palpitating. “Don’t say things like that! I’ll bleed out! Rin!” He just laughed maliciously as he carried her out of the house into the daylight, and into a new future of love where she had no idea what to expect…
